I'll personally never understand the high praise given by NLife to In Other Waters. Total disappointment and MASSIVE bore of a game. No saving graces to be found there whatsoever, in my opinion.
Unless of course your idea of "discovering strange new worlds and exotic and beautiful oceans" is looking at blips and arrows on a monochrome radar/sonar screen...
As for hidden gems: some of the best and funniest point & click adventures in my opinion are the Deponia games. There's three of them in total. All available for ridiculously low prices right now.
Another hidden gem in regards to adventures is Silence. Entertaining game, good story. And it looks good, too.
@TheLightSpirit Good point on the one hand, but on the other hand, long time members shouldn't have to be making efforts to virtually run away from new and ignorant users that don't understand the community, and only come here to display their own "opinions".
That's kind of like the digital equivalent of the world upside down where all the good kids are being punished, whereas the bad kid gets a hall pass.
Ah, never mind. I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit, which is already hard enough under these restricted circumstances, so I shouldn't put any remaining energy into idiots.
Sheesh, can someone please take care of that dumb@ss, multi-posting, single brain cell containing troll?
Too bad I don't actually possess the ability to do a Thanos finger snap, or I wouldn't even have hesitated for a micro-second. The world would be SO much better without some of these "wonderful" individuals...
@KingMike Well, all I know is the DOS games, which are basically equivalent to 8-bit games on consoles, and I've always found them to be far more simplistic and less comfortable to control. Of course, setting up joysticks and so on for the PC wasn't all that plug & play back then either, so most probably played it with their keyboards.
Commander Keen: the ugliest platformer games you've ever seen...
All kidding aside, though, this is hardly worth the trouble. For a moment there, going by the thumbnail, I actually thought it was going to be something like 40 Winks, or at least something a little bit more contemporary, not some kind of DOS Mario wannabee with wonky physics and graphics.
I don't understand the comments about there being something "off", because I think it looks and sounds great, and it immediately triggered me, so far as I'm concerned, bring it on!
Absolutely horrible and disgusting. And it does definitely cheapen the franchise/game. A wonderful story about Greek mythology now tainted by a rainbow version of my little pony. Yegh!
@Krull Nothing rude about it, in my humble opinion. I think that almost everyone with a basic knowledge about JRPGs would know that Atlus is one of the better developers.
So, depending on whether or not you like REALLY old skool RPG's to play on your Switch, or if you want to play a 16-bit inspired one bad enough to fire up the ol' Wii U again, there might be something there for you.
All kidding aside, could be pretty interesting, but those visuals indeed...
I'm desperately and truly longing for the day when indie developers will FINALLY get over the whole "8-bit inspired" thing, and just get on with more modern type graphics for their games.
@rjejr Haha, thanks for the card, Christmas and graduation day all in one, then?
As for the drinks: apple is definitely the way to go. It's called liqueur over on your side of the pond, but what it actually is, is a kind of schnapps, if you know about that. In case you don't, it's shots, but I usually drink it like whiskey, as previously mentioned. And you have to taste it to understand. It's more akin to rye/gin (the German name literally translates to "apple jenever", jenever basically being Dutch gin) with apple flavor, which makes it a bit thicker when going down, so you feel the warmth of its glow all the way down when you drink it...
And it just tastes really fresh. Kinda summer-y, if you will, but it goes down just as easily in the winter. If we ever get around to meeting up on these here shores though, I've got to let you taste Stroh. I can understand you not wanting to buy an entire bottle of something that you may not even like, but as my parents always taught me: never say you don't like something unless you've actually tasted it.
Stroh isn't like any other rum I know. It's called rum, but it's more like in a class all of its own, and it's flavored, so it has that almost candy-like, festive flavor to it. The Austrians also use it to make pastries and ice cream dishes with. And cakes. Much like American fruit cake, except replace the sugared fruit bits with raisins which have been soaked in Stroh for a couple of hours, and you have a wonderfully spiked piece of confectionery...
Anyway, be sure to let me know your verdict, once you've managed to get your hands on a bottle of Berentzen. I'd try it both as a shot and on the rocks, to see which way to consume it fits you the best. Both are good though, but obviously, on the rocks will last you longer, so you'll really be able to experience and enjoy the rich taste of it.
@Anti-Matter Aha. Well, it could have been, considering that the article is about a take over and the future of companies, but I don't think that any new and upcoming racers are known or revealed yet.
@WoomyNNYes You might also want to know that F1 Race Stars is available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. No idea if it's backwards compatible with current gen consoles, though.
@Anti-Matter Did that game pique your interest? Then perhaps that's another title that you can add to your Xbox 360 list...
Either way, that's just an example, there's probably other stores that sell this brand in the US as well. But Berentzen is the brand you need. I've tried several others, and this one is simply the best.
And remember: on the rocks. I usually put it in a whiskey glass, with two or three cubes.
Great appetizer for getting into the holiday spirit(s)...
It definitely does have a Christmas-y flavor, and I actually got acquainted with it on a winter sports vacation, so snow and Stroh is an excellent combination, far as I'm concerned.
@Azuris Yeah, I've no idea what these guys were/are thinking. Probably focusing a bit too much on making their games exclusive or special, when they could have chosen to put a digital version of it on the various consoles, which would more than likely also make them far more money than selling a single batch of limited edition cartridges...
Yeah, thanks but no thanks. You'd be a fool to pay that much for a 16 bit game. Simply ridiculous.
And I can't be persuaded with those "buy now or lose out forever" comments. They should have made these games available for modern platforms as well, but seeing as they apparently aren't going to do so, I'll simply download the ROMs for both games, seeing as they'll inevitably pop up at some point...
This is sad news indeed. And I just can't stand Wilson. He always looks like he ate something bad and I find him to be a genuinely and highly unlikeable person.
I do hope they're not going to add to their bad track record by down-sizing teams and firing developers, but I fear the worst.
@rjejr Funny you should mention Denmark, as it literally sits smack dab on top of what used to be West Germany. Traveling from the Netherlands to Denmark takes about 10 to 11 hours by car, and most of that time is spent driving around in Germania (not a typo, I just like to call it that), seeing as you'll already hit the Dutch border after around 1,5 hours.
As for alcoholic beverages: I actually do drink wine, but mostly when out and about and accompanied by a good meal, and I only drink the good stuff, mostly red. And the good stuff doesn't give you headaches. Those are the cheap 7-11 kinds...
Nowadays, I stick to beers and Bacardi & Coke, but I do also like other things, such as Apfelkorn, which is great on the rocks, and for this time of year, Stroh rum is a perfect match. Which, by the way, is also used by the Austrians (its country of origin, obviously) in various recipes, such as deserts, cakes and pies.
Coffee is only for office hours (or, if you're retired: daytime), or as an after dinner moment, around 8pm. Those moments are appropriately called coffee time.
Of course, personal taste is a thing, and there actually isn't really any such thing as a fixed time for anything: it's just stupid humans and their incessant need to categorize and put stuff in boxes, otherwise they can't make sense of all the chaos in the universe around them.
But having said that, I personally wouldn't be able (or willing) to drink coffee all the time, especially in the weekends: that's my leisure time, and when I'm off the clock and can sleep without having the need for an alarm clock to raise me out of my slumbers, then I want to be able to indulge in my poison of choice...
@rjejr Yeah... I suppose that, for the average American, all European countries are part of a bigger whole, or at least closer to each other than in real life. Americans and European geography. No, scratch that: Americans and everything that isn't American, more like...
Scandinavia actually is a real and very official thing, regardless of whether anyone thinks it isn't. It has been a thing from WAY before any white man had ever set foot on American soil, and before that time, the region was simply known as the Nordic Isles, hence Norse men, aka vikings.
And in between that region and the Netherlands is a rather not so small country called Germany...
I guess in your mind, these are Scandinavians as well, then. Better not tell the Swedes or the Finnish people, or they'd probably have a rather large bone to pick with you, considering the history between these countries in the war...
As for drinking: I usually never go that far with it, especially when I'm drinking at home, even though I can definitely hold my liquor. I only ever get slightly inebriated, tipsy if you will, because I don't drink to get drunk, I drink because I enjoy the taste of it, and I like a bit of alcohol along with my snack plate.
@rjejr No, they don't walk around in T-shirts, the OMT consists of doctors, university professors and virus specialists, so they either wear white coats, or when they're asked to speak on some kind of news item or talk show, they wear business suits, so they actually look the part of secretive government organization. And the government blindly listens to them, economy be damned, which is the far more scary part of it all.
That, and the fact that even over here, it's actually called Outbreak Management Team. That was not my translation of it. The Dutch definitely do like their popular English labeling...
What's up with the comparing Scandinavians to Dutch when talking about food? The kinds of Christmas dishes they serve are VERY different. And I should know, having both Dutch and Danish relatives, both of whom I've celebrated Christmas with, on several occasions...
The two Christmas days are so that we can actually celebrate with and see all of our family in parts, instead of having a crazy household filled with dozens of people all at once. Also a good preemptive measure to prevent you from getting into an argument with your better half about who you should or shouldn't invite: first Christmas day is for the in-laws, second is for your own family. Everybody happy.
Oh, and in general, you go out the first day, and you stay in the second, so first you'll be the guests, and the next day, you'll be the hosts. That way even those tasks get divided evenly, which is as Dutch as it comes.
Let's not get into talking about the Donald. What an idiot. I was kinda hoping someone would have the guts to Kennedy him, so we'd be rid of him forever. Just imagine him coming back in four years. Perish the thought...
But enough of that, back onto more important things: yes, we do know comfort food, but over here, most of it is sweet, so chocolate, milkshakes, ice cream, candy, especially all kinds of licorice, and of course alcohol.
Snacks are used more as convenience, in case you don't feel like making dinner, or when you want to try and sober up a little while or after drinking. Or simply to be able to drink more after you've eaten something.
I know I certainly do like my snack plate while I have my Bacardi & Coke, in fact, I'm going to have that tonight. Probably add some spicy chicken skewers or grilled cheese sandwiches later that same evening. But we'll start lightly, with coffee and butter cake..
@rjejr Haha, thanks. I've reserved the same comment without smirkey face for moms. Bit more partial to women, you see...
Although the smirkey face was actually meant as the all-knowing blinking eye, as in a "guys among guy's" thing. In real life, I'd have replaced it with a conspiratorial elbow nudge...
We men gotta stick together and all that. (only semi-serious)
As for how I'm doing: I'm fine, all things considered. Working in a semi-empty office, with about one-third of my co-workers left. The rest is all working from home, as per the government's (or rather: the Outbreak Management Team's) request/strong advice.
Walking around with face masks, being annoyed at people who don't (especially in public transport) and already not particularly looking forward to the holidays, seeing as we're only allowed to invite 3 people into our homes and on New Year's Eve, no fireworks are allowed, other than sparklers and Bengal fire, if you know what those are (basically little kid's "fireworks"), because the government doesn't want to risk over-stressing the already all but over-stressed ICU's...
And officially, we don't have Boxing Day, but we do have two Christmas Day's, aptly named First and Second. And on the 24th, we have Christmas Eve, so I suppose it's included somewhere in there, albeit off the record.
Either way, I'm pretty sure that we'll still be able to get our feeding frenzy in, even in such small groups. That's something that'll never change, regardless of the number of people, since the Christmas holidays has always been about family AND good food. And plenty of it as well, so we can feel guilty about it again, and then promise to start losing weight or going to the gym again in the new year...
@Lordplops No, we're not. But if you're missing the point, then there's no need or use for me to try and explain. As long as @WiltonRoots gets it, I'm fine.
An effort worth applauding, but probably an exercise in futility, my friend, seeing as more and more of these, shall we say, graphics "enthusiasts" are already crawling out from under their rocks...
All hail, Panic Button! These programming wizards pulled it off once again. I have nothing but the utmost respect for these people and their simply amazing porting skills.

No, don't bother, I'll see myself out.

Re: Random: Have You Spotted The Tiny Typo Nintendo Missed In The Latest Switch Update?
@rjejr Haha, yeah, that's true. Then again: being a parent is also kind of a full-time job, so you actually DO have one already.
Re: Random: Have You Spotted The Tiny Typo Nintendo Missed In The Latest Switch Update?
@rjejr Hey, man. I honestly had no idea that you had started a second job as text editor at Nintendo...
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@Lordplops No, we're not. But if you're missing the point, then there's no need or use for me to try and explain. As long as @WiltonRoots gets it, I'm fine.
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@WiltonRoots Yeah, well, it probably won't stop them from trying, regardless.
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@Lordplops No, they were already out, as @WiltonRoots already noticed as well.
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@WiltonRoots "Trying to get a post in before... "
An effort worth applauding, but probably an exercise in futility, my friend, seeing as more and more of these, shall we say, graphics "enthusiasts" are already crawling out from under their rocks...
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
All hail, Panic Button! These programming wizards pulled it off once again. I have nothing but the utmost respect for these people and their simply amazing porting skills.
Re: Community: 12 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You
So, basically an article about games that most of us have never heard of, recommended by users that most of us have never heard of either.
Alrighty, then...
Re: PQube Is Releasing A Totally Free "DanMachi" Shmup On The Switch eShop
Haha, "Pee" Qube, hilarious...
Re: The Crown Prince Of Saudi Arabia Is Now SNK's Largest Shareholder
@BeautyandtheBeer No biggie, man. Happens to the best of us.
@Shufty Yeah... I don't really care about what it says on the country's official label: we all know the ACTUAL truth...
