Yeah, not in this dimension. Over here, on Earth Prime, they are simply called side-scrolling beat-em ups, seeing as that is what they do: they scroll from left to right.
It's also an insult to conveyor belts, seeing as they're SO much more versatile than just doing the simple scrolling from one side to the other thing...
Belt-scrolling beat em ups must then be a thing on one of those other Earths in the Multiverse. The same one were England rules the world and where they actually did bring football home...
@Awesomebird25 My original point, although meant as slightly sarcastic, was that none of the games they make are ever available offline, and the Google Doodle site also isn't a very good alternative in that regard either.
And I was already familiar with that option, but thanks anyway.
@Poodlestargenerica True, but if the game is really as good as some on here describe, then it would be a shame for it to be gone forever at some point, no?
@OldManHermit Wow, that's a pretty cool drawing! If the rest of your work is anything like that, then perhaps you should consider posting in the Nintendo Life Artists thread.
@kingbk Well, no offense, but you cite shovelware as one of your criticisms of the Wii, but the thing is that the way you put it, you make it sound like the Wii ONLY had shovelware, and that, of course, is complete and utter nonsense.
Over the years, I've managed to collect well over a hundred games that are all highly enjoyable and some of them even still impressive to look at to this day, regardless of them not being in HD. And that even holds up on my new 55" 4K OLED screen, so that already ought to say something...
As for the rest of your opinion: I usually say that everyone has a right to their own opinion, as long as it does have merit and is constructive in its reasoning and clearly explained, instead of just taking short cuts with lame one-liners that a lot of haters back in the day also used.
So, in that regard, what you've said so far, already became practically invalid and/or to be taken with a truckload of salt, especially when you called the N64 overrated and the GameCube a disappointment.
If your habit is to always be VERY selective in your choice of games, regardless of whatever platform you play them on, then there might just be a valid point hidden in there somewhere, but otherwise, I have a strong feeling that you kind of lacked a healthy sense of realism there.
I honestly don't know what you expected of those consoles, but it sounds more like you were drinking too much of the Sony KoolAid back then.
I mean, the N64 alone had a number of stellar games, such as one of the best F-Zero games, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, and on top of that also some truly revolutionary first party titles, that could NEVER have been made to run on any other console of that generation, and more importantly: it also saw the ultimate rise of Rare Studios, with plenty of brilliantly entertaining titles, some even surpassing Nintendo's own efforts.
As for the GameCube, where do I even begin? The best Metroid games EVER, Eternal Darkness, new iterations of F-Zero, Wave Race and 1080 Snowboarding, two great Zelda games, plenty of wonderful second and third party stuff, some of which exclusive, and the best version of Resident Evil 4, until the Wii version came out to beat it with a superior control scheme.
And I could go on an on, about both consoles.
And sure, from a sales perspective, both of them didn't do too well, but regardless of those numbers, they still delivered plenty of entertainment to those that took the time to truly look at and enjoy what was on offer, instead of just putting blinders on and moving towards the other platform with the rest of the herd, simply because of the fact that it had more games.
@BloodNinja Depending on how much you scan. You can actually complete the games without scanning one single item. Well, safe for the elevators, that is.
But, erm... my previous comment was actually meant as a closing argument, so if you don't mind, I'll see myself out now.
Funny thing is that they are WAY more different in color than the pictures would make you believe.
It's two completely different shades of blue. My very first impression of them was that they were practically the same color, but they're like three or four shades apart. Nice touch, though.
@Tyranexx Why don't you have any? I picked up mine today...
@Damo Not ALL Pro Controllers featured that message. (I know: nitpicking. Just couldn't help myself.. )
@Sourcecode Sorry about that, couldn't help myself. Wouldn't mind finally seeing that one surfacing either, though. I'm a fan of all the previous games, so I'd welcome a true sequel.
@BloodNinja I don't think it's because people dislike first person shooters, or because it's Nintendo, it's just that this is not a shooter by nature. I mean: the Legend of Zelda features a LOT of fighting AND shooting, but does that then mean that it's either a 3D beat em up or a third person shooter?
I know, bit of a pedantic comparison, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at. Basically, the whole idea of the team at Retro was to have the actual feel of the 2D Metroid games, and then combine that with a first person view. That does not make it an fps, though.
And besides, there's plenty of other first person and third person games where you shoot at things and also solve puzzles, and these aren't called shooters either. Take Resident Evil for example: why is that not a third person shooter, then? Because it's a survival horror game, obviously, because that is it's core mechanic and genre.
Well, believe it or not, the same goes for Metroid. The core mechanic really isn't shooting aliens. In the 2D games, you're obviously also shooting at aliens, but it's still an exploratory platformer at heart, and most of these mechanics have been ported over to the 3D games.
So, if the 2D games aren't platform shooters, then the 3D games also aren't first person shooters. You COULD play them as such, and they DO have these kinds of mechanics in place, but pound for pound and percentage-wise, the majority of the game consists of puzzle solving, scanning, platforming and so on.
Anyway, perhaps we should leave it at that. You have your ideas, I have mine, we're apparently not going to convince each other, facts or no facts, so there's little point to it, I suppose. Glad we could keep things civil, though. That means that my previous comment came across as it should: constructively critical.
@BloodNinja @BloodNinja Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I'm with the other commenters: Metroid Prime is NOT a first person shooter, it's a first person action adventure, and OFFICIALLY labeled as such by Nintendo themselves, no less.
I can to some point understand the mistake, but you see, the type or classification of a game is not defined by its perspective or usage of in-game peripherals, it's solely defined by the leading purpose/mechanic of the game, and that (in the case of Metroid Prime), is VERY clearly exploration and puzzle solving.
So, the core gameplay is NOT first person shooting. That's just an added feature. And as we all know, the gun is also used to solve puzzles and open doors, so that already differentiates it from your average FPS.
And besides, it would also be pretty presumptuous to have one's personal view/opinion go against an ENTIRE gaming industry AND the makers of the games themselves, who have explained to exhaustion why it is not a first person shooter:
And considering the source material as well, it is pretty clear why they would not want the exploration part to be overruled by the "shooty" bits, because that actually would primarily make it a first person shooter.
So, no offense meant, but what's so "glaringly obvious" in this case, is that it's not a first person shooter, so sorry man, but you're definitely wrong.
Or in your own words: " just because it’s your favorite game doesn’t mean it’s magically something different".
@CactusMan It's called a hybrid because it offers that TV out option that none of the other ACTUAL handhelds offered, genius, so it's pretty stupid giving the GBA as an example, because it's not even remotely the same as the Switch. Talk about delusional...
@FragRed Haha, yeah. Weird Championship as it is, already, so you may never know how it will end. Long as the Italians don't win, I'll still be relatively satisfied with the end result.
@FragRed With the first 10.000 coins, you'll already earn the right to put him on the bench, and just for a measly 450.000 additional coins, you'll be able to actually use him for at least three matches.
Or, you could get a season pass for only 29.99 and have him play for an entire season. Provided he isn't snapped up by another team or gets injured, obviously...
@GrailUK Let's just throw away all of the Pro Kool-Aid, it's already been past its best before date anyways...
@GrailUK Isn't that basically what has become the default behavior ever since the last couple of E3's? Rumor mongers making stuff SO big, that the gullible part of the general audience actually comes to expect these rumored things to be revealed, and when they're not, they actually get it into their shrunken brains, that they have a "right" to be angry or disappointed about Nintendo, or any other company for that matter, because of it not living up to their highly unrealistic expectations...
@FragRed But with every 1000th gold coin credit bundle, you WILL get a new piece of kit, or maybe, juuuuussstt maybe, a new character to play with that's actually worth his salt...
@FragRed Unfortunately, EA has bought up the whole lot, so now that quest is filled with all kinds of "surprise" mechanics, yielding even smaller percentages of success...
@FragRed @nhSnork Well, apparently they haven't woken up yet, but they're not crying (too much): they've simply repositioned the goal posts, and now this model Switch is one of the two that were "already" predicted. Yup, some SERIOUS reaching going on there...
@GrailUK @VoidofLight Well, that's the internet for ya: if the truth isn't interesting or powerful enough, and plenty of "insiders" promise a FAR better future than the one we basically know Nintendo is willing/going to give us, then obviously, a lot of hopelessly devoted people will turn to the dark side...
@NEStalgia Well, I actually DO have a lot of experience with buses, you know...
And I'm not the oldest here. Our mutual friend @rjejr beats me by some years, and then there's this other member, don't know his name anymore, but I do remember he liked farming games, and last year, he had a forum topic running asking a LOT of questions about it. And that guy was well into his 70's, so it all depends on how well you've done your research, apparently.
And I'll always remain a kid inside. Even full grown adult men still like to play with cars and stuff, and the ones we can't pay for, we've nowadays simply replaced for their digital versions...
@Mips Don't bother. @NEStalgia would sooner get hit by a train than give up his actual age. Me, I don't mind all that much, especially since it's also relatively easy to find out if you take a look at my profile.
I'm a bit older than you, and my first gaming experience also precedes yours by a bit: playing Pong on a Pong home console on a portable black & white TV. After that, we moved on to the Atari 2600 and so forth. The rest is in my profile, in case you're curious.
All hail Newgrounds!
Some seriously great times on there, back in the day. I always visited the site, whenever I had a couple of minutes to kill in the office, or when I wanted to have a quick funny or weird gaming session at home.
Also, due to @KateGray's brilliantly sneaky badger reference, I simply HAVE to post this:
Oh, and concerning my personal favorite memories of Newgrounds, this as well:
(go to the 5min20secs mark for the first person shooter game, for those who remember)
This surely MUST mean that there really IS going to be an N64 Mini, yes? YES?? Just read between the lines between those actual lines and we simply CANNOT deny that it's actually real anymore...
@rjejr Ah, sorry to hear about that. Hope it doesn't get worse any time soon, or at all, for that matter. I've already experienced that first hand, with my mother, so I don't have any particularly fond memories of it either.
On a side note: perhaps it'll make you feel a little bit better to know that at 51, I also sometimes forget stuff, so in that regard, it isn't all that peculiar or specific. I sometimes stroll from my living room to my kitchen, which is a 10 seconds walk, and once I reach the fridge, I actually forgot what it was that I had to check. I never forget getting something to drink when I go to the fridge, but if I have to do a day to day inventory, to see what I need to go and buy the next day, I regularly forget.
Same thing happens in the supermarket: I come home to find out that once AGAIN, I forgot something. But I'll be damned if I take some stupid written note with me, to use as a check list to help me remind what to get, like some retirement home gramps...
Long as I can, I'll keep jogging my memory, and you know what? Games actually also help. The interactivity of it triggers the brain, improves hand-eye coordination and lessens other mental effects of aging as well. It has also been proven that physical exercise or sports also improves mental health and will halt even the effects of Alzheimer's.
So, if you're still doing your Asian exercises in the library (or wherever that was back then), keep doing them, and if you're not, go and pick it up again. Even if you feel too tired to do so, you should know from your own experience that it actually also gives you energy.
@rjejr Did I miss something somewhere and is the mental health deterioration an actual thing, or is that the infamous New Yorkian sarcasm coming out of the woodwork there?
@rjejr Well, you'd be correct, but not because of the lack of airconditioning, but because it's a sea climate over here, so it's a humid, sticky heat, and that is the worst thing about it.
I'm perfectly fine with anything up to 45 degrees Celsius. I've been to countries where these kinds of temperatures are the order of the day, but because it's dry heat, it's FAR more bearable, because you don't drift away inside your own clothes...
P.S.
So, you're done with talking about TV's then, considering the complete switch of topics...
@NEStalgia I was actually going to tag you earlier, but I thought: "nah, I'm already always bugging him with train jokes. Let's give him a pass this time around"...
@rjejr No, the broadcast is streamed through my set top box in 1080p, and the TV upscales/cleans it. I'll look into those settings, might be just what I'm looking for.
And as mentioned, it doesn't quite look like the soap opera effect. I actually recorded an episode of the Bold to make a comparison, and even that soap opera looks less live than NCIS, even in 4K...
Most of these things are probably easy to fix, once you know where to look in the settings, but the thing that I find most annoying is that it's all ON by default: all kinds of settings that I either don't want or need.
Another one I'm currently fighting with, is the so-called "Ultra HD Deep Colour" setting, which more or less gets activated automatically if a device connected to HDMI port 1, 2 or 4 is switched on and supports the setting. The thing is, though, that I have 5 consoles connected to one port (HDMI4, the fastest game port, for lowest input lag) by means of a mains-powered HDMI hub, that I bought especially for this TV and this purpose, because it didn't play nice with my non-powered, cheap Amazon HDMI switches.
Now, normally, the setting for switching that option on or off should be retained, once selected, if I understood correctly, but strangely enough, when I switch from one Xbox console to another (Xbox 360 and Xbox One), the setting is activated again automatically, and even more weird is that this supposedly modern feature IS supported by my Xbox 360, but if it's switched on, the signal of my Xbox One S isn't coming through, and I get a "no signal detected/switch on or connect a device" message instead, until I once again switch "Ultra HD Deep Colour" off in my TV settings, and then I can display both Xbox'es again, even if I switch from one to the other.
But, once every console is switched off, and the hub is switched off, I get the same damn thing AGAIN, the next time I switch either of the consoles on again, so apparently, the TV doesn't retain the setting. I don't know (yet) if that's due to the HDMI hub, or because of some other reason.
I suppose I'll ultimately find a fix, or if not, it'll ultimately will have to become another thing that I'll need to learn to live with it.
But all in all, these are relatively tiny niggles, and it's more that my annoyance grows exponentially because of me not being able to find the solution, so the mole hill becomes a mountain, at some point, while it actually is still just the tiniest of mole hills...
I'm still very happy with it, though. And Wii through component and then lossless pass through to an HDMI converter is something that you'd need to see live to believe how good that can look on such a big screen.
That Wii home menu, though... (cringes)
I have a sneaking suspicion that the home menu is made in a lower than 480i/480p resolution. It's SO fuzzy that it almost makes me think that I'm looking at a 240p YouTube video.
And that makes the difference all the more dramatic, once you switch from home menu to an actual game. Either way, it certainly was a concern, before I bought it. I was confident enough that all the HD consoles would look perfectly fine, but I've often heard bad things from other people about older, non-HD consoles on newer screens, so I'm glad that my worries in that regard have now been firmly laid to rest.
Perhaps I'll make a couple of pics this weekend, and then I'll post them over in the Chit-Chat thread. I'll tag you in the comment as well, if and/or whenever I do.
@rjejr Yeah, I know all about that, and I'm covered in that area as well. Trust me, your wife would have LOVED the LG CX6...
On a side note: what I did notice, and kind of miss is that with pre-recorded series, such as all the NCIS series that I watch, it now looks like everything is happening live: it's SO sharp in 4K, that you more or less lose that cinematic effect, if you understand what I'm getting at.
It's not exactly the same as the soap opera effect, obviously, but on all TV's that are either full HD or lower, there's probably also a lower Hz mode (I believe that the one I have is 120Hz), which probably explains this difference. But other than that, I'm very, VERY happy with my new TV. And in time, I'll get more used to it, and I'll learn to overcome/ignore these tiny niggles. Well, probably...
@rjejr Well, Rtings definitely is a pretty good review site for TV's and other devices, so I'll take their word for it. Personally, though, I'd stick with brands that I know, and TCL is not a brand that is familiar to me, and far as I know, it isn't even available, unless some store has an import option...
7.7 though? If that was a review score for a game, people would consider it bad or average at most...
The one I have scores considerably better: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/cx-oled As a gaming AND sports fan, I'd definitely look for something at or above that review score.
@WiltonRoots I'll see your 7 pounds and I'll lower it to 6 euros, because that's what I paid for it, back then. I even bought two copies, gave one to a friend who already had a Wii U. Enjoyable game indeed, and to this day, still the superior version of the game.
The Wii U GamePad just added SO much more fun and suspense to it, which the other versions just weren't able to replicate in any kind of sufficient manner.
@rjejr Well, I didn't have the patience, or the time, to wait for Saint Nick, and seeing as my old Panasonic Plasma screen was about to go on a trip to the eternal hunting grounds, I decided to get a new TV.
I used my holiday bonus, seeing as I wasn't going anywhere anyways, thanks to COVID restrictions, so I was able to get me a good quality screen. I went for the LG OLED55CX6LA and I'm super happy with it. It came out on top in several reviews, so ultimately, I decided to go for it. I was also tempted to get a Samsung screen, because it was slightly cheaper, but I did want to get a superior screen, also for gaming and sports, so that's why I ended up with this one.
The web page from the shop where I got it from, has plenty of info on it in English, in case your interest has been piqued, or if you're still looking for a new TV as well.
Either way, from my own experience with it over this last week, I can heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a new TV. Even old consoles look great on it. Got the old Wii plugged in as well...
@rjejr Haha, I've also done that, several times, both with controllers and games. Once I know that I will eventually get that console or handheld, and I come across games or peripherals on sale or only available for a limited time, then I might still buy them, even if I don't have the actual hardware to use them with yet.
The first game I ever got for my Wii U was ZombiU: it was SO heavily discounted that I feared it might not be available at all anymore by the time I would finally be able to buy the console, so that game has been sitting on a shelf in my apartment for roughly half a year...
@skywake And that was just my point: it's standard business speak, nothing to glean any supposed proof from that a new Switch is coming. And extending a life cycle can simply mean extending the life cycle of the current models. Doesn't necessarily mean that there's going to be an upgrade, and it's also not necessary, for now.
And the statement about "new platform" can also not be misconstrued, in my opinion. New platform = new generation of consoles, not an upgrade of current ones. But hey, it's just my personal view on the matter. No one has to agree with it.
@rjejr Thanks, I was beginning to think I was alone in my views. I guess wisdom does come with age, doesn't it?
@Xiovanni Yeah, that was something, wasn't it? Nintendo gonna Nintendo, and they'll probably never change. Me, I usually just stick to the standard models of the consoles and handhelds. I don't like paying crazy money for some limited edition. I do have some special controllers, though.
Nintendo says: "we’re always looking at technology. And as we know, technology is constantly evolving and changing. And we’re always looking at what is coming to determine: How can it enhance and improve the gameplay experience? And whether that’s on a current platform, or whether that’s on a future platform, we’re always looking at that."
Meaning: No, we're NOT releasing a Switch Pro, we're simply always busy trying to find/invent/manufacture new hardware, and more importantly: new ways to play, as soon as the current generation of consoles is in stores, so we can prepare for the next generation. So, when we say future platform, we explicitly mean the next generation of consoles, NOT an intermediate iteration.
Nintendo says: “As we enter into our fifth year, Nintendo Switch really is redefining what a console life cycle can look like, and the vibrancy of that overall life cycle with a strong cadence of content"
Meaning: Because of the simply MASSIVE success of the Switch, we will continue this generation for longer than we usually allow life cycles of our consoles to be, because the Switch is still selling like hot cakes, so there's no need for new hardware yet.
@Octane Well, you see, the thing is that triple A does not mean what a lot of people think it means, aka a game that's always big (or preferably MASSIVE) and always good.
Triple A, as you actually should know, simply denotes budget, origins and production value. Even with all of that, a triple A game (or movie) can still suck major balls. That infamous Mario Tennis game being the case in point.
But as is custom amongst the fickle crowd that is the gaming community, the label has been misinterpreted and misquoted time and time again, which is how we got to where we are now:
"So, THIS is supposed to be a triple A game? Well, it sure as hell doesn't look like one, and it's not at ALL what I expected from <enter name of company>."
Oh, and of course, followed by: "I'm definitely NOT going to pay 60 bucks for THAT. I'll just wait until it lands in the bargain bin, where it belongs. That'll teach 'em... "

@Damo Not ALL Pro Controllers featured that message. (I know: nitpicking. Just couldn't help myself.. )
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
@Sourcecode Sorry about that, couldn't help myself.
Wouldn't mind finally seeing that one surfacing either, though. I'm a fan of all the previous games, so I'd welcome a true sequel.
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy For Switch Ready To Go, According To Industry Insider
Nintendo sitting on Metroid Prime Trilogy much like they have been sitting on Pikmin 4. That too was already "done" AGES ago...
Re: "It's Like A Contra Game On Acid": Weapon Of Choice DX Runs 'N' Guns Onto Switch This Fall
Wow, that looks REALLY Adobe Flashy... but not in a good, Newgrounds kinda way...
Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?
@CactusMan It's called a hybrid because it offers that TV out option that none of the other ACTUAL handhelds offered, genius, so it's pretty stupid giving the GBA as an example, because it's not even remotely the same as the Switch. Talk about delusional...
As for the rest of your comment:
Re: Random: This Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 3D Embroidery Is Sew Cool
@KateGray You go, girl. Spin that yarn...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed Haha, yeah. Weird Championship as it is, already, so you may never know how it will end. Long as the Italians don't win, I'll still be relatively satisfied with the end result.
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed With the first 10.000 coins, you'll already earn the right to put him on the bench, and just for a measly 450.000 additional coins, you'll be able to actually use him for at least three matches.
Or, you could get a season pass for only 29.99 and have him play for an entire season. Provided he isn't snapped up by another team or gets injured, obviously...
@GrailUK Let's just throw away all of the Pro Kool-Aid, it's already been past its best before date anyways...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@GrailUK Isn't that basically what has become the default behavior ever since the last couple of E3's? Rumor mongers making stuff SO big, that the gullible part of the general audience actually comes to expect these rumored things to be revealed, and when they're not, they actually get it into their shrunken brains, that they have a "right" to be angry or disappointed about Nintendo, or any other company for that matter, because of it not living up to their highly unrealistic expectations...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed But with every 1000th gold coin credit bundle, you WILL get a new piece of kit, or maybe, juuuuussstt maybe, a new character to play with that's actually worth his salt...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed Unfortunately, EA has bought up the whole lot, so now that quest is filled with all kinds of "surprise" mechanics, yielding even smaller percentages of success...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@nhSnork Well done, young padawan...
@FragRed Don't forget the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed Yeah... I already gave that a go a while back. Logic wasn't appreciated, apparently...
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed I actually meant here in the forums, not so much by the insiders themselves, although you do also have a point there.
Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch
@FragRed @nhSnork Well, apparently they haven't woken up yet, but they're not crying (too much): they've simply repositioned the goal posts, and now this model Switch is one of the two that were "already" predicted. Yup, some SERIOUS reaching going on there...
@GrailUK @VoidofLight Well, that's the internet for ya: if the truth isn't interesting or powerful enough, and plenty of "insiders" promise a FAR better future than the one we basically know Nintendo is willing/going to give us, then obviously, a lot of hopelessly devoted people will turn to the dark side...
Re: Nintendo FAQ Confirms That Switch OLED Joy-Cons Are The Same As Existing Controllers
So, still drifty, then.
Re: Industry Veteran "Zoid" Retires And Reminisces About A Conference Call With Miyamoto
Re: Soapbox: The Founder Of Newgrounds Will Receive An Award At GDC - Here's Why That Matters
Re: Nintendo President Quizzed By Shareholders On Switch 'Pro' And Classic Mini Consoles
OhmyGodOhmyGodOhmyGod!!!
This surely MUST mean that there really IS going to be an N64 Mini, yes? YES?? Just read between the lines between those actual lines and we simply CANNOT deny that it's actually real anymore...
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@rjejr Did I miss something somewhere and is the mental health deterioration an actual thing, or is that the infamous New Yorkian sarcasm coming out of the woodwork there?
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@rjejr No, you missed nothing, basically. I haven't tried out those settings yet. Too busy watching Euro 2020 and so on, to mess with TV settings.
But anyways, I was just pulling your leg a little about me writing a whole text wall and you not responding to any of it...
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@rjejr Well, you'd be correct, but not because of the lack of airconditioning, but because it's a sea climate over here, so it's a humid, sticky heat, and that is the worst thing about it.
I'm perfectly fine with anything up to 45 degrees Celsius. I've been to countries where these kinds of temperatures are the order of the day, but because it's dry heat, it's FAR more bearable, because you don't drift away inside your own clothes...
P.S.
So, you're done with talking about TV's then, considering the complete switch of topics...
Re: All Aboard! The Nintendo Switch Is Getting A Train Controller In Japan
@NEStalgia I was actually going to tag you earlier, but I thought: "nah, I'm already always bugging him with train jokes. Let's give him a pass this time around"...
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@rjejr Well, Rtings definitely is a pretty good review site for TV's and other devices, so I'll take their word for it. Personally, though, I'd stick with brands that I know, and TCL is not a brand that is familiar to me, and far as I know, it isn't even available, unless some store has an import option...
7.7 though? If that was a review score for a game, people would consider it bad or average at most...
The one I have scores considerably better:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/cx-oled
As a gaming AND sports fan, I'd definitely look for something at or above that review score.
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@WiltonRoots I'll see your 7 pounds and I'll lower it to 6 euros, because that's what I paid for it, back then. I even bought two copies, gave one to a friend who already had a Wii U. Enjoyable game indeed, and to this day, still the superior version of the game.
The Wii U GamePad just added SO much more fun and suspense to it, which the other versions just weren't able to replicate in any kind of sufficient manner.
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
@rjejr Haha, I've also done that, several times, both with controllers and games. Once I know that I will eventually get that console or handheld, and I come across games or peripherals on sale or only available for a limited time, then I might still buy them, even if I don't have the actual hardware to use them with yet.
The first game I ever got for my Wii U was ZombiU: it was SO heavily discounted that I feared it might not be available at all anymore by the time I would finally be able to buy the console, so that game has been sitting on a shelf in my apartment for roughly half a year...
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
I also ordered the Skyward Sword HD Joy Con...
Re: Doug Bowser Responds To Reports About "Upgraded Switch Replacement" (Again)
Allow me to translate that for you all...
Nintendo says:
"we’re always looking at technology. And as we know, technology is constantly evolving and changing. And we’re always looking at what is coming to determine: How can it enhance and improve the gameplay experience? And whether that’s on a current platform, or whether that’s on a future platform, we’re always looking at that."
Meaning:
No, we're NOT releasing a Switch Pro, we're simply always busy trying to find/invent/manufacture new hardware, and more importantly: new ways to play, as soon as the current generation of consoles is in stores, so we can prepare for the next generation.
So, when we say future platform, we explicitly mean the next generation of consoles, NOT an intermediate iteration.
Nintendo says:
“As we enter into our fifth year, Nintendo Switch really is redefining what a console life cycle can look like, and the vibrancy of that overall life cycle with a strong cadence of content"
Meaning:
Because of the simply MASSIVE success of the Switch, we will continue this generation for longer than we usually allow life cycles of our consoles to be, because the Switch is still selling like hot cakes, so there's no need for new hardware yet.
You're all welcome, tin foil brigade included...
Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
Oh, and of course, followed by:
"I'm definitely NOT going to pay 60 bucks for THAT. I'll just wait until it lands in the bargain bin, where it belongs. That'll teach 'em... "
Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
@Octane Yep, it was: an Absolutely Atrocious Attempt at a new Mario Tennis game for the Wii U...
On a more serious note: a bit of selective reading there, isn't it?
