I mean, she did mislead everyone by not mentioning she was actually offered. And she keeps throwing out the $450 million franchise. Sooo liar seems apt.
She also knew the fans wanted her back so she used that to get more than 15k. So golddigger seems apt.
I don't think she realises how these posts actually make her look worse.
@CharlieGirl Hellena does seem to be having some mental heath issues at the moment, so people should ease off. But I believe she should really be called out for her lies and malicious intent.
She did a lot of damage.
I sided with her very early on and was disappointed with Platinum. But then I did some Maths based on her claims and realised nothing added up. I mean each game had to sell for $150USD for the series to see the type of money she claimed it was earning. And I didn't like how she threw Hale under the bus.
I think people like a David vs Goliath story and instantly side with the little guy. This case though, Goliath was the one people should have sided with.
It disturbed me when people said she deserved royalties. Imagine being a dev, working on a game for 100s of hours for years and you don't get royalties. But everyone starts screaming that a VA who does 16hrs of work over a week should get them. That's a slap in the face. Actors are already overvalued as it is.
@RunninBlue I'm right with you. I played around 200hrs when it first released on Switch and don't remember any hard crashes. Just some of the standard Elder Scrolls jankiness. So I am confused by everyone claiming it's a broken mess that constantly crashes.
They really need to take a page out of Monster Hunter's book. Where you can access and download the complete backlog of events that get released worldwide. The limited time codes are getting really old and annoying.
@UltimateOtaku91 Most people complained about the stylistic change of TLoU. Not that they were rereleasing it. I was excited until I saw they removed the gritty high contrast lighting and aged up all the models with a million more wrinkles. Tess is supposed to be around 40 but the remake makes her look like she is in her 60s. The original model actually looked closer to the voice actor that played her too. This seems to be a bit of trend with Sony games recently, such as the drastic change in Peter Parker and Aloy.
Oh good! My brother and I were wondering why no one would join our research requests. We just put it down for how particular the system is, not that it was a bug.
They really need to get rid of average totals for user reviews on sites like imdb, metacritic and rotten tomatoes. They are too easy to manipulate and create false narratives. Let audiences write their reviews, just remove the average score.
Sydney has a Luna Park on the northern side of the Harbour Bridge. It's a small park with a Ferris wheel etc. But yes, they have correctly represented it... in a more colourful Mario fashion.
That's amusing. Some of the complaints came during the launch of the 3DS, when Nintendo was taking a dive and NoA were pushing for people to leave or retire. That happened under Reggie's reign. Compare that to the head office in Japan where Iwata and the board took cuts so no one had to lose their jobs.
So if Reggie believes that this didn't happen under him, maybe it's a bad manager(s) that are still around.
Some of the complaints just seem like standard contractor office politics. I mean, as a contractor myself who only gets renewed every 3-6 months, and have to prove I am worth keeping on every time my contract is up. And only find out if I still have work about 2 weeks before the contract ends. I also don't enjoy a lot of the privileges of permanent staff and also had a manager question me on taking my entitled breaks. But I did find out due the amount of sick leave taken due to covid spreading through the site, the company is planning on making permanent staff redundant and then offering to rehire them under contracts so they no longer have to pay sick leave. Not dismissing the issues of NoA, but a lot of companies have major issues that are a lot worse than what I have seen brought up against NoA. But hopefully this attebtion will bring about a fairer workplace.
I think a lot of people miss the point of the Miis simplicity, especially when they say they should be more like the generic cartoony Xbox Avatars. They are heavily influenced by Kokeshi, sharing the same painted on faces, and simple wooden shapes for the head and bodies. So they are steeped in Japanese history and culture. I think to rob the Miis of their quirkiness and cultural background to replace them with standard cartoons is a deep shame.
Game Freak says anything is mainline to try and increase sales, since spin offs have a stigma of being "less than". So just because they say it is, doesn't mean we should be forced to think it is. I mean, hell has to freeze over before I consider the Let's Go titles main line even though Game Freak says they are.
I strongly believe that this is a licensing dispute. The Switch version was most likely the last released and so will be the last removed. Hence why they can't talk about it due to legal reasons.
If it was cancelled, it would be from a group of elderly conservatives like the type of people who don't want sex, violence or gay representation on tv, not a "woke" crowd. But they would have said something along the lines of: "Due to the current circumstances, we no longer feel comfortable selling a product that is reflective of the death and damage the world has experienced in the last couple of years." There's no reason to not be forthcoming about it. Ergo, licensing issues.
@Gamer_Zeus You're not being very objective though, and definitely viewing World with rose tinted glasses. Rise beats a fully updated vanilla World in amount of monsters and quests and it still hasn't finished with its event quests.
World (Vanilla): 117 Hub quests, 52 Event quests, 26 rotating Special Arena quests + random generated research quests. Total: 195 quests. 36 Large Monsters, 18 small monsters.
Rise: 128 Hub quests, 43 Event quests, 55 Village quests + random generated rampage quests. Total: 226 quests with more event quests incoming. 46 Large Monsters, 26 small monsters.
I played World for the first time at the beginning of last year on my PC, and Rise at launch, so I only had three months between titles. Frankly, graphics aside, Rise is the better of the two. I always loathed "hunting" the monster. World, the tracking of footprints was just a tedious waste of time and before that where you would not know where the heck the monster was hiding was just frustrating. Especially as it moves in between the sections while you were, so you would search the whole map and maybe not even come across it. I eventually just used psychoserum all the time. Rise, thank GOD, skips that pointless step and gets us right into the action. And because of the quality of life improvements I have played it more than any other Monster Hunter title simply because I enjoyed my experience. Being in my thirties and having to balance work, life and gaming, I appreciate games that don't waste my time.
My top three MH play times are: MHR: 350hrs MHW: 250hrs MHGU: 200hrs.
The fact that they are concerned about what they can get away with under Japanese regulations should be a clear sounding bell warning them that what they are doing is wrong.
@Specter_of-the_OLED Monster Hunter World and Rise are both considered generation 5. Monster Hunter World kicking off the gen is considered Monster Hunter 5, and Rise is a side spin off.
Each gen has a unique feature they introduce. 5's is the open world nature of the maps. 4th gen was all about vertical leveled environments. 3rd gen was underwater environments. 2nd gen was day/night cycles and seasons.
Personally I felt that the gameplay in Rise drastically improved over World and should be considered it's own generation. Especially since climbing, palamutes and wirebugs introduced new ways to traverse. But if they did that World and Iceborne would be the only gen 5 titles where most have around three or four per gen. So Rise and Sunbreak will round off gen 5 and the sequel to World will most likely be the start of gen 6.
@blindsquarel I don't think releasing new titles in the midst of holiday sales is the best of ideas. People will be spending more on discounted titles over full priced new releases.
Metroid Dread, Monster Hunter Rise and New Horizons 2.0 + DLC were my biggest gaming highlights. I have barely even touched my PC this year which usually gets equal play between it and my Nintendo console.
MHR I have played almost 350hrs of, and it convinced me to go back and get Generations Ultimate which I sunk another 150hrs into.
Metroid Dread was a much awaited return to form for the series, I was so happy with the way it turned out.
And Animal Crossing 2.0 reignited my love affair in an already amazing title that I had sunk about 700hrs into.
I would be totally okay with them cutting out all the third party characters and have similar characters (wolf/fox/falco and fire emblem characters etc) as alt costumes rather than full on fighters that requiring individual balancing.
Absolutely loved Shang Chi, and I admit to having a bit of a crush on the guy after seeing Kim's Convenience. Don't really watch award shows though as they are hella lame and mean nothing to one's personal tastes.
"Just hire the best person" is a pretty naïve thing to say.
Usually if you make it to the interview process you are on par with the other 5-50 interviewees, there's rarely a clear winner based on skills and merits alone. It then becomes about the ability to sell yourself and leave a lasting impression with everyone on the panel. That doesn't mean you are best for the job, you just interviewed the best. And if that panel is made up of men looking to hire a manager without a gender quota, they are more likely to hire another man than a woman, sometimes even if the woman is slightly more skilled, because the man would "fit in" with the rest of management better.
Hence why forcing a more equal presence in management is important. Because the company would make more balanced choices, rather than defaulting to Men=Management, Women=Assistants.
Ah Okami, one of those games that I always feel like I should love but get bored midway and never finish. I've always found it comparable to the low tier Zelda titles, and felt like it only got high scores on initial release because it was a capable Zelda-like title exclusive for PlayStation. I remember all the Sony fan boys making claims like how it was better than any Zelda title, but then I actually played it and thought they were off their rockers.
@FredsBodyDouble Uhm, no it's not. 8-15 hrs is pretty standard for the Metroidvania genre.
Just like the survival horror genre. I mean look at Resident Evil. Some of the the best in the series are generally considered to be 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 with those titles mostly being around 10hrs long, except 4 which is about 15. Resident Evil 6 is 30hrs long, and it's considered the worst in the series, so longer doesn't always equal better.
Jeez, with this update and expansion ACNH will easily be the best Animal Crossing game out there. I've sunk hundreds of hours more into it than I have New Leaf. I honestly can't believe people are still whining, especially when most of these people would have spent at least 100 hrs and got their bells worth from it.
It's by far the most creative based game in the whole franchise. New Leaf is so limited compared to New Horizons. The amount of freedom you have to develop your island is seriously beyond amazing. I guess being from an arts background, I appreciate this a million times more than just going around ticking off a checklist of things to do.
@RupeeClock Yeah, but, not a lot of people will want to pay the cost of said console, especially if Nintendo wants to make a profit off of it. Heck, Steam Deck is technically last gen tech, they are recklessly taking massive losses on each system sold and their basic model is still USD$50 more expensive than the Switch OLED, $100 more than the normal Switch, $200 more than the Lite.
Nintendo targets a family affordable market range. Hence why the release of the Switch Lite is so important to them. We won't see an upgrade until manufacturing costs allow them to release one at about USD$300, with the ability to release a low end version at $100 cheaper.
People say games run choppy on it, but at higher specs devs will push the envelope further, thus some games will still run choppy. Nintendo's handheld/hybrid consoles will never run at par with current gen dedicated home consoles. The pricing for a handheld console of that capability would be astronomical.
Frankly, I think the Switch still has a few more years in it. Nintendo has released some of their best games in generations on it, despite the consoles shortcomings.
Then why do it. I couldn't care at all for the Genesis titles. Let third parties work out for themselves how they would like to sell their classics. I would rather that NSO was for first party Nintendo titles across classic platforms and bring the price down. Maybe separate the platforms as multiple smaller expansion subscriptions. So people can pick and choose what they want to pay for instead of asking people to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a bunch of stuff they won't use.
For myself, partner, and 2 brothers who all share a family account and all play Animal Crossing, this is a no brainer. But if you don't own Animal Crossing, or simply not interested in its DLC, that's a ridiculous markup.
@HotGoomba I've always considered the Metroid Prime franchise a first person adventure series over an FPS. The game's progression is about exploration, puzzle solving and taking down dungeon bosses. FPS titles tend to be about running the gauntlet.
I think Kamiya doesn't want it on other platforms anyway. They did approach Microsoft and Sony to help fund Bayonetta 2 and were turned away. There might be a bit of resentment there.
As we have seen with Fatal Frame, Daemon X Machina and Wonderful 101, Nintendo can be flexible.
I share my NSO with my two brothers and partner so we can all play online together. I really don't get all the moaning about price. Compared to PSN it really is cheap as chips. Sure you get big budget titles for free once they have hit the bargin bin in retail stores, but there have also been times when I have missed the PS games of the month and just simply couldn't claim them even though I paid for that month. At least with NSO the games are just constantly available unless they are a limited event title like Mario 35. And I love using vouchers for new release must have titles. It often works out cheaper than buying the title in store.
But, for now we don't know the cost. Getting angry at an unknown is a bit pointless. But heck, I might as well get it as it will give all four of us access to some wonderful classics. If I was a collector and wanted to own these titles outright, I would buy a second hand 64 and games.
It's a bit different making art or short videos of your favourite games. But building a game to completion, even not charging for it, competes with Nintendo's own offerings. That crosses the line. It's better to feed that energy into creating an original project.
@ModdedInkling I guess it depends on the media and its size. I do remember reading that a PS4 game and the 8GB Switch cartridge cost roughly the same amount to manufacture and distribute. And that's generally considered to be only about $4/$5 of the cost of a game. Generally with digital stores, only first parties really reap the benefits. As they don't have to pay a platform royalty, and they keep the retail margin, where third parties surrender both to the first party and thus only save on the comparable small amount of manufacturing and distribution.
Understandably, yet unfortunately, retailers have fought game companies to stop them from launching games on their digital store fronts at a cheaper price than retail. Nintendo has gotten around this by having the NSO Game Vouchers, that you can redeem for a launch title and actually erases more than the bonus profit they would have received from not having to manufacture and distribute a cartridge. But from memory, they stopped this system in NA for whatever reason? But here in Australia it's still rolling on.
"Really goes to show: Main Series: Silently listens to feedback and adjusts next gen"
But do they? I feel like the Main Series has slowly slipped away from what fans want with each generation. They have become more focused on making the games easier and more accessible to extend their reach rather than pleasing their fans.
@ATaco The main issue with what Valve is doing, is that the Steam Deck is currently only available via the Steam store, and you are giving them $5 to register your interest. Nintendo on the other hand is distributing to third party retailers who set their own rules. I know some retailers (including the Nintendo online store) here in Australia set a one/two per customer rule on high demand limited items like Amiibo or consoles, and won't allow multiple accounts to send an item to the same address.
Bought it but haven't touched it. It's get your drink on Friday, woot woot! (Aussie here, so don't be alarmed by timey wimey ness, it's actually 1am on a Saturday!)
@hammers1man I'm happy to hear that you have enjoyed the Nvidia Shield. I haven't used it myself, but I have used PlayStation TV and Steam Link which were both awful and laggy and absolutely turned me off the idea of streaming any game from machine to another device. I can't use Switch Cloud in Australia, but I wouldn't want to anyway. But I am happy to hear you have had success with NVidia, who I wasn't criticizing, but Valve, who aren't particularly good at hardware.
Geez, I can't believe how many people think this is a good system after how many times Valve have shown in the past that they only care about their hardware for about 6-12 months and then they pretends it no longer exists. I loved Valve in the past as a software dev, I am primarily a PC/Nintendo gamer. I have been burned in the past by Valve's cruddy hardware that seems better on paper than it actually is. I have many, many games on Steam, but I am not buying this. I would rather experience my Steam purchases on my machine that is currently better than a PS5 or whatever the new Xbox name is again, not one that is a generation behind by console standards. I have my Switch for Nintendo purchases and some great indie titles that don't need power.
Being a launch console owner who actually uses the Switch as hybrid, I'm definitely in. My lil bro and I both preordered the white variant to avoid the possibility of scalpers. New console version at Christmas time anyone? My current Switch has a fan that is starting to sound like a jet engine when it runs certain games. Plus the white design, bigger better screen and battery life are all a plus.
@XenoShaun Agreed, all they really need to get people to upgrade is the console/screen segment. No joy cons, joy con cradle, joy con wrist straps, HDMI, AC Adaptor or dock.
Maybe even offer a money back system for people returning their no longer needed original console for salvaging and recycling of parts.
I think that might be a bit too forward thinking for Nintendo though.
@Enigk That's a shame. But that USB slot is already taken up on my current dock with a LAN adaptor. So not a deal breaker, just thought that would be a bonus.

Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer
Re: Nintendo Leaker Suggests Pricing Of Switch Online's Expansion Pack Could Be Tied To "Licensing Costs"
Re: Froggy Chair is BACK in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Ohhhhhhh, frog yeah!!!!
Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed
For myself, partner, and 2 brothers who all share a family account and all play Animal Crossing, this is a no brainer. But if you don't own Animal Crossing, or simply not interested in its DLC, that's a ridiculous markup.
Re: Retro Studios Scrapped An "Open-World" Idea For Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
@HotGoomba I've always considered the Metroid Prime franchise a first person adventure series over an FPS. The game's progression is about exploration, puzzle solving and taking down dungeon bosses. FPS titles tend to be about running the gauntlet.
Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive
I think Kamiya doesn't want it on other platforms anyway. They did approach Microsoft and Sony to help fund Bayonetta 2 and were turned away. There might be a bit of resentment there.
As we have seen with Fatal Frame, Daemon X Machina and Wonderful 101, Nintendo can be flexible.
Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis 'Expansion Pack' Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October
Re: Talking Point: As The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Is Shut Down, Where Do You Stand On Nintendo's Takedowns?
It's a bit different making art or short videos of your favourite games. But building a game to completion, even not charging for it, competes with Nintendo's own offerings. That crosses the line. It's better to feed that energy into creating an original project.
Re: Metal Gear Creator Hideo Kojima Is "Afraid" Of A Future Without Physical Media
Re: Pokémon GO Reduces PokéStop Spin Distance In America And New Zealand
"Really goes to show:
Main Series: Silently listens to feedback and adjusts next gen"
But do they? I feel like the Main Series has slowly slipped away from what fans want with each generation. They have become more focused on making the games easier and more accessible to extend their reach rather than pleasing their fans.
Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On The Switch OLED As Pre-Orders Go Live In The US
@ATaco The main issue with what Valve is doing, is that the Steam Deck is currently only available via the Steam store, and you are giving them $5 to register your interest. Nintendo on the other hand is distributing to third party retailers who set their own rules. I know some retailers (including the Nintendo online store) here in Australia set a one/two per customer rule on high demand limited items like Amiibo or consoles, and won't allow multiple accounts to send an item to the same address.
Re: Poll: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?
Bought it but haven't touched it. It's get your drink on Friday, woot woot! (Aussie here, so don't be alarmed by timey wimey ness, it's actually 1am on a Saturday!)
Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"
@hammers1man I'm happy to hear that you have enjoyed the Nvidia Shield. I haven't used it myself, but I have used PlayStation TV and Steam Link which were both awful and laggy and absolutely turned me off the idea of streaming any game from machine to another device. I can't use Switch Cloud in Australia, but I wouldn't want to anyway. But I am happy to hear you have had success with NVidia, who I wasn't criticizing, but Valve, who aren't particularly good at hardware.
Re: Soapbox: Can We Just Announce All Platforms At The Same Time Already?
Totally agree, consumers should know where it is coming so they can make and informed decision about where they want to make their purchase.
Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"

I remember encountering this feature and thinking that the game was broken...
Re: Should I Buy A Switch OLED? Which Nintendo Switch Is Best For Me?
Being a launch console owner who actually uses the Switch as hybrid, I'm definitely in. My lil bro and I both preordered the white variant to avoid the possibility of scalpers. New console version at Christmas time anyone? My current Switch has a fan that is starting to sound like a jet engine when it runs certain games. Plus the white design, bigger better screen and battery life are all a plus.
Re: Yes, Switch OLED Works With Your Old Dock
@XenoShaun Agreed, all they really need to get people to upgrade is the console/screen segment. No joy cons, joy con cradle, joy con wrist straps, HDMI, AC Adaptor or dock.
Maybe even offer a money back system for people returning their no longer needed original console for salvaging and recycling of parts.
I think that might be a bit too forward thinking for Nintendo though.
Re: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs. Standard Switch / Switch Lite: Full Tech Specs Comparison
@Enigk That's a shame. But that USB slot is already taken up on my current dock with a LAN adaptor. So not a deal breaker, just thought that would be a bonus.
