@CharlieGirl almost certainly will affect America and the rest of the world too, the EU is a large enough market that most tech giant companies will definitely cater to this law rather than miss out on the whole of Europe, and it's just impractical to develop two seperate devices with different specifications for different regions.
I mean look at Nintendo, they used to make a Japanese version and a western version of their home consoles (NES vs Famicom), that's a tradition that has gone by the wayside as its just a pain
The EU are doing some awesome things regarding tech and the pro-consumer laws. Forcing Apple to use USB-C in line with everything else, and now making it easy for us to replace batteries in everything, which will also include Apple, obviously being notorious for having battery issues after multiple years of usage. I haven't looked into the depths of the regulations but I wonder if it stretches to Tablets and Computers too meaning I can change out my iPad and MacBook Batteries too! Although it will make the products uglier if they have to have screws in the back or a panel to access the battery. I also wonder about the rules, it says that the instructions must be accessible online "permanently", I wonder if that means the batteries must be available permanently, THAT would be insane (wishful thinking im sure) but still.
Also to make this more Nintendo relevant, if it needs to be done by 2027, I can see that the switch successor might come with this feature day 1. Because, if we assume it to have another 7 year life, that would be 2024-2031 putting it right over that threshold of 2027. and if they make an equivalent of an OLED (mid-gen upgrade) but for the successor in 2028-29 and want all of the hardware to be consistent between models then there's a chance that they would preemptively act on this ruling before they have to. OR the mid-gen upgrade could simply be a battery port on the back,, who knows haha fun to think about tho
Can't wait until I can say something for these articles other than TOTK hahaha, ~insert titanic 84 years meme~ eventually when im done with Zelda im going on an Indie catch up cause i've picked up a lot in the steam summer sale like:
Omno
Tunic
The Last Campfire
Gylt
I am dead
Somerville
and a couple others...
and I can't wait to play them BUT,, not until i'm finished slaying that naughty demon ganondorf
@Picola-Wicola ah I see looks like you've done a LOT more side questing and koroks than I have, cause I haven't maxed out any of my tool stashes yet, and I've got most of the side quests still to go Yeah the armour upgrading can be a bit of a chore if you're not duping (im not either) i've been setting a session maybe once a week to item gathering, stick on a movie or a podcast and just go item hunting to get through the armour stuff, some of them are very strenuous though hahaha
@Zuljaras it gets a lot of hate but I really really liked playing Oceanhorn its like if a 2d Zelda and Windwaker had a baby, super fun times to be had!
@Picola-Wicola Friend you are going slow! im joking ofc, what've you been most focussed on to get that many hours and not have done the shrines yet or depths yet? i hope this doesn't sound like a criticism i'm just genuinely curious to know how other people have been playing you been building lots or just exploring? lots of fighting? gimmie deets XD
I reckon i'm in my twilight hours with TOTK now, all shrines completed, all lightroots completed, all sages acquired, maxed out my battery last night, I've made decent progress in fully upgrading my armour, my compendium is looking nice and only missing a few things now. Im saving the final fight until the very end and im getting through the grindy stuff and purposely leaving a fair amount of side quests so that I end on a high note. currently closing in on 200hrs playtime and looking to be done with everything by 250hrs and then there's the Koroks... im saving those until the very end and will not rush at all, ill dip in and out grab a few just to enjoy being in the world after i'm done with it and then ill eventually get em all. what a beautiful game, I spent a couple hours last night just chilling on the great sky island, removed all my weapons and put on some casual armour, just looking back at the adventure and enjoying the view...
I very recently, we're talking last week, picked up the Wii Port, had no idea that it was having an anniversary this week, its really cool to have these games on a celebratory disc. Even though I have played them all a thousand times and have access to them on literally everything lol, its great that they can sit together on one piece with a bunch of extra bits 'n' bobs to make it feel like these games are as special as they are.
@theModestMouse yeah its more like us asking that artist nicely if we can come down to his studio and take a photo so that we can enjoy his painting later
@glaemay they are against emulation, didn't they say recently that emulation "stifles innovation", and Nintendo had Dolphin removed from steam, claiming to be "protecting" their games, from what they're protecting, i'll never know haha
@Rainbowfire It's a decent point you make, however I truly believe and maybe I'm wrong (I know I'm technically wrong in the eyes of the law but im still gonna make my point lol) there comes a point where a product becomes removed from its creator. for example if Paramount suddenly said "ya know what, no more, we're gonna make it illegal for you to watch 'the godfather' and we aren't gonna sell it again" that would be insane and there would be public uproar. same if the Louvre decided that they were gonna hide the Mona Lisa away in a vault forever never to be seen by the public again, or if Brian May said "no more Bohemian Rhapsody" you think people wouldn't illegally stream it? it sounds mental and it is mental, but Nintendo are effectively doing just that. I know that Nintendo are well within their rights to do as they please with their work its just a mega douche move, that's all my opinion, no hate <3
Its interesting right, because right now, this article is filled with games that for the most part people don't really care about. So you walk away still not caring. But then you start to think, this is NES and SNES, next we will start to see articles like this one with N64 games and the more time passes, the more quantity and prolific the games will become that are lost to time. How long will it be before Starfox64, Donkey Kong 64 and other beloved games get lost in the past. Especially games that now have their rights all messed up with who owns what.
This is why Emulation needs to not be seen as criminal and Nintendo need to chill on their censoring of Roms. I will never understand why they hate us wanting to play their old games, all of the games that I can still buy properly, I will, but they aren't willing to let me buy them all legitimately and the second-hand market prices for "retro" games are ridiculous. Not to mention I'd have to buy a TV with the appropriate holes.
It's honestly so sad this this series has not been around during the switch era, even just a straight port collection of them dumped on the eShop would've been amazing. I adore them so much, Partners in Time being my first one and therefore my favourite. I would so love to play them all back to back on my Switch, I would buy them all again in a heartbeat. Even if we never get another one, I would love for them to be preserved on modern hardware for at least the next few generations.
:::MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD::: (Sorry I'm not sure how to blank them out) One of the greatest moments in my gaming history, I was sobbing in awe at this scene. However, it does highlight one of my biggest gripes with TOTK, how easy it is to play the game out of the intended order! This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that once you find out the intended order and realise that it is objectively better than doing it randomly. I personally hate when I get to a point in the story and they send me on a grand quest only to say "whoops you've already done it, moving on" I get that the philosophy of these 2 games is freedom of play but I wish they just made some things harder to do or gave more obvious pushes in certain directions. I had the master sword after doing all tears, only 2 phenomenons down, I then went to Deku Forest, in which he said "oh you've got the master sword, see ya later" I then was exploring the skies and someone earlier in the game had mentioned the storm above the faron region so I went there on my flying machine, and found the 5th sage before I had the first 4. So when I got to the castle the first time and did all that which was awesome I got back to purah and she said, "right, we've got lots to do... cool all done" I then, like others have said, had to come across how to clear the storm by chance, so I could do the rest of that sky region.
I don't feel like I've broken the game or tried to do things I wasn't supposed to, i've just been following my curiosity. Most often when you do that you find a Shrine but occasionally in this game you find a major story quest that you aren't supposed to do until much later on.
For example, the Deku Forest is a lot more challenging to enter in TOTK than BOTW the fog is more dense meaning you can't enter through the ground level, so you have to come at it from underneath, which is cool but that area in the depths is super hot so you have to go to goron first which when I first realised I thought "okay, clearly they're marking that area off until later in the game, i'm not supposed to go there yet" however you are supposed to go there relatively early?! and yet the tears are all super easy to find, I did them all in like the first 40hrs Similarly the faron storm is hard to enter, like the deku forest, but this time the storm IS supposed to keep you out?!?! Although, the island with the 5th sage quest is the lowest to the ground making it the easiest to get to by flying machine which is exactly what I did, they should've made the storm super deadly and impenetrable until you get the armour set from the faron dragon after doing the castle.
I don't feel like i've missed out because I've still gotten to do all of the content and it was all magical at the time but I was very disappointed when talking to purah to know that there wasn't much else waiting for me and I had done things wrong. Game still 10/10 incredible, im nitpicking really but i think they could've improved the nudges
So I have finally done all 4 phenomemons, the next bit too (without giving spoilers), I have done all Lightroots, and this weekend i'm chipping away at the last few shrines, I'm currently at 140 completed. I just got the official guide book, personally not a fan of online walkthroughs because they seem too handholdy but with the book it makes me feel like indiana jones or something, cause its like a map and a journal and im discovering clues HAHA.
so thats been very helpful with tracking down those last few shrines, gonna go through the rest of the side quests and try and max out my inventory before going to beat Ganondorf's bug butt
People saying the switch can keep going I don't get it, you sound like you don't want a new console?
The Switch is amazing, easily my favourite console ever, but its clear that it's struggling now, sure Devs can keep their games as they are making them currently but that's not how development works, studios strive to improve upon themselves every game, otherwise we'd still all be playing our 8-bit consoles. Im not asking for a jet powered nintendo console, idc about it being super powerful, its just there's an obvious ceiling that developers keep bumping their heads on now, we just need Nintendo to raise that ceiling a little so that Devs can keep striving to make bigger and better games as they always have tried to.
@Yalloo The Switch isn't backwards compatible, yeah, however, Nintendo have been striving this entire generation to make it effectively BackCompat by porting almost their entire first party WiiU lineup to the Switch.
You're totally correct, we can just get our Switches out as and when we need them to play these old games whenever the next console comes, but, why do we have to? BackCompat is only a good thing. It means I can play, all 3D Marios (other than galaxy 2), 12 Kirby games, the previous 2 and a half Pokemon Generations, the best 2 Zeldas in the franchise, the greatest Smash ever, etc, on day 1 with the new fancy hardware whatever that ends up being, it'll probably be faster, have better controllers, better screen and overall be a better experience, and also most people only have 2 or 3 HDMI ports on their TVs, I wanna unplug my switch and plug in the next console without losing the switch experience.
Much like my PS5, which allows you to import your entire ps4 library and saves so effectively my PS4 is still alive but inside my PS5 so I dont have to keep swapping consoles whenever I feel like playing an older title. BackCompat is just super convenient and gives you more reason to have the newer console.
For example, to play the entire library of Nintendo's Pre-Switch handheld library all I need is a DS Lite and a 3DS of some kind, if none of them were BackCompat I'd need 5 separate consoles.
Having been playing Zelda exclusively for a nearly 2 months straight at this point with no end in sight, I forget how stacked the first few months of the year really were
Forspoken in January (hey I kinda liked it)
Deadspace in January
Hogwarts Legacy in February
Metroid Prime Remastered
Tchia in March
Jedi Survivor in April
Minecraft Legends in April
and then TOTK
after that i have no idea what has come out because I havent left Hyrule since XD
but this year has been awesome so far and tbh the second half looks better yet, Pikmin, Starfield, Detective Pikachu, Mario Wonder, Spider-man 2, Mario RPG, Avatar
I mean exclusives drive competition which ultimately results in better and more games, thats the so called 'market' that sony developed. And for one I am grateful for it, we get to see every year what a market built of multiplatforms looks like, its all the tripe we get from Ubisoft every year... Xbox are just salty because they forgot about their exclusives when they started this gen and now nobody cares about xbox, just wait Starfield comes out, Fable comes out, etc, people will care about Xbox again, it really is that simple. I want to play ______ therefore I need to have __________. I want to play with ___________ therefore I need to have ________.
I'm still plowing through TOTK like most of us, 120 hours in, 3 phenomenons down, only Goron to go. Holding off on continuing the main quests now to try and get a good way into the side adventures and shrine quests a little more, I also wanna fully explore the depths before moving on, Im probably about 65-70% done with the lightroots, so thats finally looking doable, just got the quest to complete the compendium too, a feature I skipped in my playthroughs of BOTW but now its a quest im for sure completing it. Guess this is New Link's Snap now haha
I'm also very tempted to start Pikmin from the first game but I kinda want to wait for the physical, however I really wanna play the first 3 before Pikmin 4, so im either gonna wait to buy 4 or get the digital for 1+2, little stuck on deciding, maybe i'll play the demo to see whether I can wait until september for 4, but then it'll conflict with Starfield. AHHHHH to many games to play!!!!
Not to pile on because its such an irrelevant topic for pikmin where you play as little aliens, but as for the gender conversation, cant they just always refer to you by your name? wouldnt that solve everything?
@ModdedInkling very good point! another reason why I will always from now on play Mario Galaxy on switch, two sticks and not having to frickin' waggle to spin, I can play like I don't have a tick in my right hand (no offense to those with Ticks in their right hand)
I'm still upset that Mario Wonder is releasing the same day as 'Marvel's Spider-man 2', like what am I supposed to do?!?! Elephant mario vs Symbiote Suit... what kind of decision is that?! >
@ModdedInkling I guess i've been lucky but i've never had any noticeably frustrating instances, now its obviously not as accurate as an actual sensor, but in my experience its been just as usable just with added comfort
So I completely disagree that the switch cursor on games like Pikmin 3, Galaxy, Captain Toad, etc is a worse experience than playing on the Wii, simply due to the fact that I can relax whilst I play these games on switch I don't have to be sat in direct view of my TV and keep pointing at the screen, you just get used to pressing the reset button and you're good! Mario Galaxy is my favourite game and I play it multiple times a year, but the switch is definitely my go to system to play now, cause it's just more comfortable
I wouldn't really call this a glitch, nothing is breaking or working in a way that isn't in line with what Nintendo intended, I'm sure they didn't think it would be used like this, but this is just being smart about game mechanics, and exploiting abilities in creative ways
like someone during development obviously thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if meat froze in really cold climates and fell off your builds" and then later in development another person said "hey wouldn't it be cool if rather than always having to have all the material, with enough zonite they can manufacture anything" put those together and this happens
I'm against using glitches to play the game myself, but this just seems like a mechanic to me
Oh wow, don't I look a twit now lol, predicting very adamantly just last week that not only would we not get a June Direct but also not a September one either. Jokes on you lot, I was following the Arlo principle! If I say something hard enough about The Big N then they will do the opposite, I and the rest of the naysayers caused this direct hahahaha... you're welcome world.
Anyway, what do I wanna see?
I would of course love to get updates on the DLCs for all the stuff (Splatoon, Pokemon, MarioKart, and hoping for ToTK confirmation of DLC) fingers crossed the first wave for ToTK is out before Xmas!! Top of my hopes for new announcements is a new DK game, I'm still clinging to the hope that EPD-8 was really working on a 3D DK, I really really want it! Oh shoot, Arlo principle, Cough 3D DK is a terrible idea, Nintendo would never do something so ludicrous I also, as always, would love WW or TP ports. Although I think that's unlikely as we've had our Zelda for the year, and I can't see Nintendo bending that trend too far, ToTK, DLC and Ports in the same year... C'mon, nah. I would love to see DS come to NSO, kind of a long shot because of the touch controls etc but we all thought Wii ports wouldn't happen and yet Mario Galaxy exists so there's hope in my heart I really wanna see them keep up the Metroid momentum, whether its a port, remaster/remake or Prime 4 finally getting attention, whatever it is, I'm there for it! Something wacky and new that hasn't been leaked or rumoured would be awesome too of course, a long shot these days but would be really exciting, the pipe dream... Luigi's Mansion 4.
I played DX as a kid back in the day, it was my first Zelda experience before I even really knew what Zelda or Nintendo was, to me they were just the Mario people (I was like 6 okay). I wouldn't play another Zelda until TP on the Wii around 2011 as it was cheaper than SS and my parents made me get the cheap one, boy am I glad they did or with SS, I may not be the fan I am today. That being said, despite my nostalgia for DX and the Gameboy in general, the QoL upgrades to the Switch version just mean I can't go back now
@-wc- absolutely wasn’t a critique on any of the franchises i mentioned, i adore mario and zelda games and yeah you’re right there’s only one every now and again, i was more so stating i like that nintendo does things as well as those games despite those being the only huge sellers (to be clear i was including animal crossing and kirby in there too, didn’t wanna list everything tho)
i’m buying pikmin in the hopes that other people also will, to let nintendo know that they have more than just the heavy hitting franchises
Not sure if I'm gonna like this game, wasn't that big into Pikmin 3 Deluxe but I'm still gonna buy it day 1 because I really want Nintendo to continue supporting their smaller franchises and i'll show that in the best way I can with my wallet. It'll be really sad if Nintendo turns into the Mario, Zelda & Splatoon factory, I love that they're so Multifaceted, and want them to stay that way
@cra1g0s YES! Buy A Short Hike it's such a chill game, it feels massive even though its, as the title suggest only a short adventure, a really nice one to play on a sunny afternoon
Not that I get a weekend, cause I work in a gaming store and we don't get weekends, (currently typing while working shhh...) but in my evenings and monday, I will be plowing ahead with ToTK same as everyone else, 2 Dungeons in, heading down to the South West this week to eventually tackle the Gerudo event, but I doubt I'll get anywhere near there until next weekend! Online I've been sticking with some classic Fall Guys, and a little Stardew with a group of friends. This week i'm gonna set up my PC for looks left, looks right, gets up close to whisper... Emulation... I wanna start playing the 3DS Zeldas again after I finish ToTK but I can't be dealing with digging out my 2DSXL.
Japan cover has so much more personality, its cute and cozy, both things I associate with Yoshi, clear winner in my eyes. US Cover just looks like veggie tales of something

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?
Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?
Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?
@Cashews I reckon you gotta throw in PS4 too friend.
Re: Poll: What's Your Game Of The Year Of 2023 So Far?
Having been playing Zelda exclusively for a nearly 2 months straight at this point with no end in sight, I forget how stacked the first few months of the year really were
after that i have no idea what has come out because I havent left Hyrule since XD
but this year has been awesome so far and tbh the second half looks better yet, Pikmin, Starfield, Detective Pikachu, Mario Wonder, Spider-man 2, Mario RPG, Avatar
2023 is gonna be an awesome year for games
Although Tears still takes the cake
Re: Microsoft CEO Says He Would "Love To Get Rid Of" Exclusives On Consoles
I mean exclusives drive competition which ultimately results in better and more games, thats the so called 'market' that sony developed.
And for one I am grateful for it, we get to see every year what a market built of multiplatforms looks like, its all the tripe we get from Ubisoft every year...
Xbox are just salty because they forgot about their exclusives when they started this gen and now nobody cares about xbox, just wait Starfield comes out, Fable comes out, etc, people will care about Xbox again, it really is that simple.
I want to play ______ therefore I need to have __________. I want to play with ___________ therefore I need to have ________.
it works, keep up Phil, its not that hard
Re: Nintendo "Currently Have No Specifics To Share" About Other Legacy Platforms For Switch Online
I mean obviously they havent hit them all yet...
but,
they are getting through a decent amount of GC games at a steady rate and a lot of the fan favs are being upscaled, remastered or even remade.
So far we've got Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime & Pikmin 1+2
the only ones you see often that people really want, WW, TP Prime 2 Echoes & PM TTYD
I think its very likely that we get the WiiU Zelda ports next year, Prime 2 remake between now and Prime 4 would make total sense
and then sorry PM fans, i think nintendo hates the first two games and the people that enjoy them for some unknown reason
so I don't really think GC on NSO is all that necessary imho. DS and 3DS however... me want.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 1st)
Re: Round Up: Here's What Switch Fans Are Saying About The Pikmin 4 Demo
Not to pile on because its such an irrelevant topic for pikmin where you play as little aliens, but as for the gender conversation, cant they just always refer to you by your name? wouldnt that solve everything?
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
@ModdedInkling very good point! another reason why I will always from now on play Mario Galaxy on switch, two sticks and not having to frickin' waggle to spin, I can play like I don't have a tick in my right hand (no offense to those with Ticks in their right hand)
Re: Nintendo Infographic Showcases The Games Featured In June's Direct
@Debbiee AHHHHHHH!!!!
Re: Nintendo Infographic Showcases The Games Featured In June's Direct
I'm still upset that Mario Wonder is releasing the same day as 'Marvel's Spider-man 2', like what am I supposed to do?!?! Elephant mario vs Symbiote Suit... what kind of decision is that?!
>
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
@ModdedInkling I guess i've been lucky but i've never had any noticeably frustrating instances, now its obviously not as accurate as an actual sensor, but in my experience its been just as usable just with added comfort
Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch
So I completely disagree that the switch cursor on games like Pikmin 3, Galaxy, Captain Toad, etc is a worse experience than playing on the Wii, simply due to the fact that I can relax whilst I play these games on switch I don't have to be sat in direct view of my TV and keep pointing at the screen, you just get used to pressing the reset button and you're good! Mario Galaxy is my favourite game and I play it multiple times a year, but the switch is definitely my go to system to play now, cause it's just more comfortable
Re: Zelda: TOTK Players Discover Simple Way To Make Rupees With 'Frozen Meat Glitch'
I'm against using glitches to play the game myself, but this just seems like a mechanic to me
Re: Nintendo Direct June 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions
Oh shoot, Arlo principle, Cough 3D DK is a terrible idea, Nintendo would never do something so ludicrous
I also, as always, would love WW or TP ports. Although I think that's unlikely as we've had our Zelda for the year, and I can't see Nintendo bending that trend too far, ToTK, DLC and Ports in the same year... C'mon, nah.
I would love to see DS come to NSO, kind of a long shot because of the touch controls etc but we all thought Wii ports wouldn't happen and yet Mario Galaxy exists so there's hope in my heart
I really wanna see them keep up the Metroid momentum, whether its a port, remaster/remake or Prime 4 finally getting attention, whatever it is, I'm there for it!
Something wacky and new that hasn't been leaked or rumoured would be awesome too of course, a long shot these days but would be really exciting, the pipe dream... Luigi's Mansion 4.
Whatever happens, I am HYPE!
Re: The Next Scarlet & Violet TCG Expansion Is A Throwback To The Original 151 Pokémon
Daaaaaangggg this looks like a nice set, Got until September at least to finish off Paldea Evolved and get saving cause I want lots of this!!
Re: Talking Point: Which Version Of Zelda: Link's Awakening Is Your Favourite?
I played DX as a kid back in the day, it was my first Zelda experience before I even really knew what Zelda or Nintendo was, to me they were just the Mario people (I was like 6 okay). I wouldn't play another Zelda until TP on the Wii around 2011 as it was cheaper than SS and my parents made me get the cheap one, boy am I glad they did or with SS, I may not be the fan I am today.
That being said, despite my nostalgia for DX and the Gameboy in general, the QoL upgrades to the Switch version just mean I can't go back now
Re: Where To Pre-Order Pikmin 4 On Switch - Best Deals And Cheapest Prices
@-wc- absolutely wasn’t a critique on any of the franchises i mentioned, i adore mario and zelda games and yeah you’re right there’s only one every now and again, i was more so stating i like that nintendo does things as well as those games despite those being the only huge sellers (to be clear i was including animal crossing and kirby in there too, didn’t wanna list everything tho)
i’m buying pikmin in the hopes that other people also will, to let nintendo know that they have more than just the heavy hitting franchises
Re: Where To Pre-Order Pikmin 4 On Switch - Best Deals And Cheapest Prices
Not sure if I'm gonna like this game, wasn't that big into Pikmin 3 Deluxe but I'm still gonna buy it day 1 because I really want Nintendo to continue supporting their smaller franchises and i'll show that in the best way I can with my wallet. It'll be really sad if Nintendo turns into the Mario, Zelda & Splatoon factory, I love that they're so Multifaceted, and want them to stay that way
Re: Nintendo's eShop Summer Sale Is Now Live, With Discounts On Over 1,500 Games (Europe)
Yeah whos buying games atm??? I have no time for anything other than TOTK at all, 120hrs and counting, still feel like I've barely started haha
Re: Nintendo's eShop Summer Sale Is Now Live, With Discounts On Over 1,500 Games (Europe)
@cra1g0s YES! Buy A Short Hike it's such a chill game, it feels massive even though its, as the title suggest only a short adventure, a really nice one to play on a sunny afternoon
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 3rd)
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl Duel: Yoshi's Story
Japan cover has so much more personality, its cute and cozy, both things I associate with Yoshi, clear winner in my eyes.
US Cover just looks like veggie tales of something
