I mean, crap, when's the last time we got a proper Paper Mario game? If anything, we've been starving for that level of familiarity! Though what I like about Bug Fables is that it's a lot like Paper Mario, but it's not a complete clone as it does it's own thing in minor but meaningful ways.
This is the first time Panel de Pon has seen a western release and NOT be retooled into a Yoshi/Pokemon/generic puzzle game. How can I NOT be hyped for that?!
Also, Rygar is super underrated and Wild Guns is good fun! Awesome additions all around!
So, now that we know that an ARMS character is the next Smash Bros., the question is, which one will it be?
Of course, I'm one of those sad-sacks that wants Spring Man playable because, despite being dismissed as being "generic" or "boring", but for me it just doesn't feel right for ARMS to be represented by someone other than it's main "poster boy" character; it's like including Dhalsim over Ryu or Waluigi before Mario, if that makes any sense. Of course, being already an Assist Trophy, I'm doubtful that it'll be him, because while I don't think Assist Trophies getting promoted to being playable is impossible, I don't think it's very likely at this point, either. (I also think that, despite me wanting him to represent ARMS as a whole, even I'd think it would be a weak reveal to tease "an ARMS character" only to reveal it's the main character, which feels a little paradoxical in my case... it's complicated)
With that in mind, I have three other characters I think it'll be. First, Ribbon Girl. She's pretty much the "poster girl" for the game alongside Spring Man, plus more female representation is always nice. Second, Twintelle; EASILY the most popular character out of the base roster for, ahem, "reasons", plus again, another female character, and a dark-skinned character at that, I'm all about diversity (bite me, anyone who dares to suggest I'm virtue signalling). Third, Helix; has a lot of potential with just the strange way he fights and moves, plus he's just a goofy character and the Smash Bros. DLC line-up could use more explicitly "goofy" and "cartoony" characters alongside Banjo & Kazooie. Honorable mention goes to Min Min, though, who is also quite popular, a lot of popular female characters from this game as it turns out...
So yeah, my bet is on Helix for now, but regardless, I'm just glad we got more information... even though we have to wait until freaking JUNE to find out more, but I guess that can't be helped at this point in time.
Maybe it's too soon to be taking things as gospel, since this is just leaked translations and the Famitsu article isn't actually available yet, but from what PushDustin said, the exact wording is that there are "no plans" for DLC beyond the second Fighters Pass at the moment, and likewise, they aren't planning a new Super Smash Bros. game after Ultimate at this time. To me, that means things could just as easily change at some point down the line; after all, December 2021 is a long ways off, I can see a lot of things being decided between then and now.
That said, I wasn't really expecting there to be more DLC after this, and if this really is it, then I'm fine with this. I just sincerely hope Nintendo actually learns from the previous Smash Hype cycles and actually end out this Fighters Pass on a character worthy of being hyped about and not just another character from a popular franchise that certain people want but most people would rather get someone else (Smash 4-Corrin/Bayonetta, Ultimate base roster-Ken/Incineroar/Piranha Plant, Fighters Pass 1-Byleth). I... honestly have little faith that will be the case, and the fact that the DLC will be once again decided by Nintendo has me more concerned than anything. I doubt we'll get more than 1 highly requested/demanded character out of this pass, just like the last one.
Still, fingers crossed, maybe we'll finally get Geno... or even Waluigi?
So basically, Byleth was selected and mandated by Nintendo, and Sakurai just kind of rolled with it. It's a different situation compared to Corrin, where Sakurai was initially against it and had to be convinced that Corrin would be unique enough to stand out as a fighter.
This probably doesn't mean much of anything, though it IS worth noting that Nintendo didn't bother re-applying for Custom Robo's trademark a year or so back, so clearly they're still interested in these IPs.
I actually just started playing it today, it's actually pretty fun, but man turning is hard, especially when drift is turned on. I'm not a huge fan of the way microtransactions are set up in this game, and how it rewards players for having the right characters/karts/gliders on certain courses, all of which you only have a random chance at getting. The fact that they give player names to what are clearly just CPU-controlled racers feels a LITTLE underhanded, I'm not sure why Nintendo would do that. Still, if Nintendo would lower the cost of the premium membership ($5 a month, which means $60 a year, is NOT a good deal), adjust the in-game prices of what you can by with regular coins (collecting them proved surprisingly difficult with the current control scheme), and have rubies be more common to collect, I feel like the game would be more tolerable than it currently is.
Great! Now let's get a remake of Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru/For the Frog the Bell Tolls in this style! It feels only fitting, since both it and Link's Awakening were Game Boy games that used the same engine, not to mention they already have a model of Richard from that game!
I like how the "Joys" are all just "passable", and not noteworthy in-and-of themselves. Also, "Best we've seen of Bubsy in some time" isn't sayimg much.
It's so hard to pick favorites, there are so many great games on the GameCube! I try to give great ratings to some underrated gems, though I have played a number of GameCube games that are just okay.
Commenting on this several months after the fact because Operation StarFall is no longer just a petition (and a Smashboards thread). Now it has an official website and several social media outlets! If anyone is still interested in this, I suggest you check them out:
I loved it! King K. Rool's reveal was my absolute favorite, which is surprising to me, since I thought that I'd be satisfied after finally getting Ridley, but King K. Rool's reveal made me realize I've always wanted him, I just never fully appreciated how badly I needed this.
Honestly, the two games I'm disappointed weren't on this thing were Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Chrono Trigger. Otherwise I think the line-up is solid.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 30th)
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, highly recommended for fans of the first 2 Paper Mario games, as well as people who like RPGs.
Re: Dixie Kong Celebrates Her Mario Kart Tour Debut With A Special Timeline Video
@ReaperExTenebris The video said 1997, yet it still said Diddy Kong Racing DS.
Re: Dixie Kong Celebrates Her Mario Kart Tour Debut With A Special Timeline Video
They made a mistake for Diddy Kong Racing DS, it came out in 2007, not 1997.
