Re: Watch: This Is What Grand Theft Auto Definitive Trilogy Looks Like On Switch

Skeletor1979

@PushMyGran1986 PS2 also produced a couple of games with nice graphics. They still look great as a remaster just because of the higher resolution (Final Fantasy X). The GTA games on PS2 were never nice to look at, the graphics were weak and out of date in their time. Just see games like Shenmue on Dreamcast from 1999! GTA on PS2 was never graphically impressive, especially with the character models. Of course, when it came to the open world, you still had to make technical compromises. And you can see that, then as now!

Re: Reminder: The Special Pokémon Dialga & Palkia Edition Switch Lite Is Out Today

Skeletor1979

I got mine today. Looks great. Is already my fourth Lite. Switch Lite is the best option for me as I only play 100% in handheld mode. I generally don't like playing on TV, regardless of the system. In addition, in handheld mode with the Switch Standard and OLED, they do not have a D-Pad. And the solutions from Hori work well, but their D-Pad is too stiff. I get pain in the joint of my thumb after long sessions. The Lite's D-pad is perfect. Maybe not so good for fighting games, but Tetris, platformer, a dream. 99% of the time I only play D-Pad games. Retro, retro style indies, 2D games.

Re: Happy Halloween! Nintendo Has Released A Free Metroid Dread Demo

Skeletor1979

I hate hard games, which is why I haven't finished any Metroid apart from Zero Mission. I've put a lot of time into every 2D Metroid. But at some point the point was always reached where I had to admit that I am not good enough and have to give up. That's not nice in many ways. Time and money invested just to make you feel like a failure who is not good enough, something that millions of others seem so easy to do. Like most Metroid games for me, great on paper, unfortunately only for very good gamers in practice. That annoys me because, as I said, on paper, from the concept, I think the games are great. But the fact that you deliberately exclude so many players devalues a game enormously for me. From me therefore only a 5 out of 10. Since it is unnecessary and no longer appropriate to exclude players who are not so good.

Re: PSA: Enjoy Rumble In Super Mario 64 On Nintendo Switch Online With The Japanese Version

Skeletor1979

I never really understood why the Speedrun scene relies on an older buggy version. Does that mean it is the same with other games? Only up to update 1.1 but not with 1.2. In motorsport, rules and specifications are changed and adapted every year, so a motorsport stable cannot arrive and say we drive with specifications from 1995 because there is an advantage. But that's the way it is when there are no official rules for competitions, an organization that determines them. So all just show to achieve more impressive times with Mario 64. Speedrunners shouldn't live in the past but always use the officially most recent version of a game. Even if the times don't look so impressive anymore.

Re: Metroid Dread Producer Hopes Fans Look Forward To "Future Episodes" Once The Current Story Arc Concludes

Skeletor1979

@Gigagash I don't mean all of that in a negative sense. I loved Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission. Zero Mission even played through several times. That's why I was looking forward to Samus Returns so much.

The first disappointment came when I realized that it is nice when a handheld like the 3DS has so many buttons, but it is just painful for the fingers to play a game this way. It requires a convulsive posture all the time. It wouldn't have been a bad thing with an ordinary controller.

And then the boss fights. I gave up at some point. I don't know which boss anymore, but if you don't make it after countless attempts, it's no longer fun. Even though I used the amiibos.

It would be nice if Dread would have an easy mode. That wouldn't be a problem and wouldn't harm the gaming experience. Since it's primarily about exploring and the atmosphere. Not about dying as often as possible in a boss fight.

Re: Metroid Dread Producer Hopes Fans Look Forward To "Future Episodes" Once The Current Story Arc Concludes

Skeletor1979

@Gigagash But what does the genre have to do with the level of difficulty? I love Metroid and Metroidvania. Making a game difficult, however, does not allow a selection of the level of difficulty for each skill. Is just to say: hey we want to sell fewer copies than we could. Or hey let's increase the risk of it becoming a financial flop.

I just find it sad how some games remain closed to so many gamers.

Re: Metroid Dread Producer Hopes Fans Look Forward To "Future Episodes" Once The Current Story Arc Concludes

Skeletor1979

I'll try it out sometime later. But I'm afraid it will be like Samus Returns. Much too difficult for me, even with amiibo support. Counter Attack is annoying, too hectic, all it got me was pain in my fingers. A convulsive experience in which some bosses are way too tough. You won't reach the masses like this, a game has to be accessible to everyone. Not only for those who are looking for a tough challenge. Maybe Dread will be more accessible this time around, but I'm not assuming that.

Re: A Sealed Copy Of Super Mario 64 Just Sold For A Record-Breaking $1.56 Million

Skeletor1979

I think that's all fake, calmly call me a conspiracy thinker. But a Mario 64 is listed on eBay as sealed and graded for $ 16,000 but nobody buys it. And the last one sold went for about $ 6,700. For me it proves enough that 1.56 million are fake. Something similar can also be compared with the other insane high games if you look at eBay. All fake, probably the one who does the geading himself offers so high that more people send in their games for grading.

Re: Nintendo Registers New Trademark For The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Skeletor1979

A remaster would be great. Because I didn't play the original because of the terrible controls. And for me, Wind Waker is by far the best Zelda game. Due to the graphic style and the water world. In fact, WW is the only Zelda game that I have kept in my collection. And after the series died thanks to BOTW, always bring me the remasters. For me, BOTW is no longer a Zelda, a 0815 Action-RPG that has unfortunately adapted to the open-world game market and has only kept the name The Legend of Zelda. I know for many, BOTW is the revelation and the best game ever. For me, however, a maximum of 5 out of 10.

Re: Nintendo Of America's President Doug Bowser Talks About Switch Joy-Con Issues

Skeletor1979

@gaga64 Yeah that makes sense. If I understand correctly then the drift is only to blame for fine dust that can accumulate in the stick. That could mean that normal Joy-Cons are affected more often than Switch Lite. Most people keep the Switch Lite in a protective bag and are therefore less exposed to dust. The normal switch, on the other hand, remains in the dock for many around the clock. The house dust that accumulates around the TV in just a week is not solemn. Of course, it collects nicely and between the analog sticks of the Joy-Cons around the dock. I know a lot of gamers who leave their Switch in the dock for weeks without wiping dust. And since it stands so nicely upright, the dust also collects between the stick cap and housing. Which is why it gets into the inside of the sticks even more easily.

Re: Nintendo Of America's President Doug Bowser Talks About Switch Joy-Con Issues

Skeletor1979

I only ever hear Joy-Con drift. It is half as bad because you can simply swap, after buying it is no problem in the future. But what about Switch Lite? The same analog sticks are installed as in the Joy-Cons. But I've never heard or read of the problem with the Switch lite. Ultimately, it should also affect Switch Lite, then constant reports in news about Joy-Con Drift are only misleading and false. Call it Switch Analog Stick Drift. Since it cannot be purely logical, the Switch Lite should not be affected.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Know Whether You Prefer 2D Or 3D Zelda Games

Skeletor1979

Before BotW existed, I would have clearly said 3D. But since I didn't like BotW at all, and future 3D Zelda games will probably only build on it instead of the older 3D titles, my answer is clearly 2D. I can't imagine playing a new 3D Zelda ever again. I hate open world games, especially when there is so much to do and explore on the side. The older 3D Zeldas were still very structured and with relatively fixed paths. I just prefer to play with a clear path and a straight path. No world simulations with game elements.

Re: PSA: You Can Play Mario Kart Live Outside, But We Wouldn't Recommend It

Skeletor1979

I think it's actually very cool, but unfortunately my apartment is so small that I can't even think of using it here. Sadly, I don't know anyone who has rooms that offer enough space. Unfortunately, Nintendo only thought of American households in the first place. And European households with higher incomes. Which then have enough space. In Japan the game should be a big flop.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

Skeletor1979

I'm so happy to have grown up in the best of times, the 80s and 90s. And that video games of the last few years only interest me in rare exceptional cases. Games today are mostly too big for me, offer too much freedom, are too long and too complicated.
Updates, DLCs, forced accounts, dependency through streaming in the future. All of this is no longer my world.

Re: Poll: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is One Week Away - Which Game Will You Play First?

Skeletor1979

Super Mario 64, I only get 3D All-Stars because of Mario 64. I had Sunshine on GameCube back then. Has never been a game that really convinced me. Look and feel, this holiday island setting, just terrible.
I loved Galaxy, but since I only have a Switch Lite I won't play it. At least not if the touchscreen is the only alternative to pointer control of the Wii. And that's what it looks like. An external controller / joycon on the Switch Lite is not a viable solution.

Re: Nintendo Switch SNES Controllers Are Back In Stock In "Limited Quantity" (Europe)

Skeletor1979

It's a shame that you can only pay by credit card. Would have been my first order in the Nintendo Store Germany. But now I at least know that I will never be allowed to shop in the Nintendo Store in the future. Because Nintendo deliberately excludes half of the population. Credit cards are not nearly as common here as in the USA. it's a shame that Nintendo wants to make less sales with the store.

Re: Even At £100, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Doesn't Come With A Game Card

Skeletor1979

@mr_benn
Yes with retail games, but it would be new to me that you get the download only titles for DSi Ware and 3DS illegally for hacked DSi and 3DS. And that's what it's all about, the download only titles. Apart from that, if you have bought countless titles legally, you will at some point just have to get them illegally via a hacked switch. In Germany, for example, illegal downloading is a more severely punished offense than shoplifting.

Re: Even At £100, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Doesn't Come With A Game Card

Skeletor1979

In 10 or 15 years the only problem will be unusable karts for the shelf. Nobody knows how long Nintendo will keep the eShop for Switch online. But nobody wants to hear that or think about what happens to the countless eShop purchases if their own switch or microSD card breaks in 20 years and the Switch eShop has been offline for a long time and you cannot download your purchases again. With Nintendo Games in particular, old titles will still be in demand for years to come.

Re: Here's The Resolution Of Each Game In Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Skeletor1979

The only disappointment for me is that 64 is not 16:9. Since it wouldn't have done any work for it. Dolphin Wii Emulator for PC with the Virtual Console Version of 64 you only have to activate 16:9 and activate an Action Replay Code so that objects such as coins, trees and so on do not disappear on the left and right in the wider viewing area. And that works perfectly, and is the reason why I play 64 with Dolphin, like an emulator in the emulator. Instead of using independent N64 emulators that allow 16:9 but apparently the Action Replay code does not work so that it is error-free.
So Nintendo just has no interest in bringing 64 in 16:9. Let's hope there are enough voices that arise and demand 16:9. So Nintendo decides to bring a patch. It doesn't do any work, this adjustment takes a minute.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

Skeletor1979

2020 because no interesting games for me. And the situation about a new Direct would give hope, but nothing happens, nothing is announced. 2020 is also the year when I slowly realize after the hype about Switch that the console is relatively disappointing. Zelda BotW was also available for Wii U, NSMBU as well, and MK8 as well. Switch will be the first stationary Nintendo console since the SNES without its own new Mario Kart. Generally too many remakes and older ports, also from 3rd party. I still had hope until 2019, but now it is clear to me that Switch is mainly a console for playing games of the last generation portable, for a few sequels and indie games. In years to come, the switch will tend to think of the hybrid console / handheld feature rather than the unique games that go down in the story.

Re: You Can Now Pre-Order The Amazing SEGA Astro City Mini

Skeletor1979

As you can see in one of the photos, a 16:9 screen will be installed. Even if, as you can see in other photos, the games run in 4:3, this is a point that bothers me extremely. and reason enough not to buy it for me. SNK screwed up because of the joystick, Sega now with the screen. Really sad. 😢

Re: Here Are The Seven Games EA Is Bringing To Nintendo Switch This Year

Skeletor1979

Unfortunately nothing for me at all. 🙁 Even for free, I wouldn't want to play a game of it. Too bad the EA does not fill the sports gap. NHL would be a dream mobile. But Madden would even become a million seller, at least in the United States. Madden in particular is hardly understandable from a purely economic point of view why EA does not bring it to Switch. But can still come in 2021. NHL is one of my favorite games, although I found the NHL 2K series even better. But 2K has given up everything in the sport area except for NBA and WWE.

Re: Super Mario 64 PC Port Shows The Game Running At 4K And With Ultra Widescreen Support

Skeletor1979

What strikes me again and again, the only people who always call for classics like 4K, 60-120fps and pronounce sentences like poorly aged graphics are the ones who rarely play the classics. Sometimes years or even decades no longer.
If you play Super Mario 64 every year for over 20 years, you usually see it differently. That's how it is for me, there can be no question of badly aged if you have had it in mind for over 20 years.

Re: Super Mario 64 PC Port Shows The Game Running At 4K And With Ultra Widescreen Support

Skeletor1979

It is really a shame that there is no manufacturer who dares to produce CRT again. I think the demand for a CRT TV model that is marketed directly for retro gamers would be quite profitable. The demand is there, and even if it is certainly not unproblematic to produce CRTs in small quantities today, I still wonder how difficult, complex and costly it can be to produce something that has been around for almost 90 years.
The only reason why I don't buy a CRT for my retro games. Old devices can break at any time and replacement is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain from year to year.
I really hope that at some point a manufacturer will dare, after all, retro games and the enthusiasm and demand cannot be killed.

Re: Super Mario 64 PC Port Shows The Game Running At 4K And With Ultra Widescreen Support

Skeletor1979

This not need a PC port or mod. This is exactly how it looks and runs in the Dolphin emulator. Real 16:9 is available via code, as is that the dark image filter and HUD filter are removed. Also by code: the objects are calculated and displayed correctly. Normally the textures/geometry are broken in the 16:9 portion of the image on the left and right.
Don't understand why so many are playing the game with an N64 emulator. In Dolphin (Wii emulator) the VC version looks so much better thanks to real 16:9.
All of this does not require a port or mod, Dolphin Emu plus Mario 64 VC ROM and the corresponding action replay codes.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Hardware Refreshes Through The Ages

Skeletor1979

I prefer at least on Nintendo usually the first original version. Although the later revisions brought better things, but also a downgrade each time.
(New) 3DS XL screens too big for native resolution, and the 3DS line became heavier and unwieldy. GBA SP shoulder buttons can only be used convulsively. GB Pocket has lost its charm because no green graphics anymore.
Everyone likes to see things differently, but I usually prefer the first version. Of course, there have always been improvements. But I would, for example, always prefer the original GBA with light Mod over the SP.
