Re: First Impressions: Prepping for Round Two with Pokkén Tournament DX

Shikinouta

The portability factor is huge for me. I really loved Pokkén but I personally prefer to play fighting games at my desk, so I can concentrate. Being able to move my Nintendo Switch from the downstairs couch to the television on my work desk is still remarkably mind blowing and will be served to great effect here.
Really looking forward to giving the online another chance after some sour experiences with input lag. Granted, it was probably my own sodding fault for not using the USB Ethernet adapter but still.

I just really love the graphics and presentation of Pokkén. That live broadcast feel just makes me NGH and the animations make me GRR!! Overall HNG/NGggHhh, gave me a reason to buy this game again.

Re: Review: Disgaea 5 Complete (Switch)

Shikinouta

Disgaea 1 is definitely in my top 15 favorite games, but I do have to admit the series itself is a bit niche; I recommend picking up the demo and giving it a go if you're on the fence.
Disgaea as a series has definitely gotten a lot more moe-anime which doesn't always appeal to me, but the core gameplay that I know and love is still there and has had 14 years of refinement.

I heartily agree with the 8/10, and I'm happy to hear that someone who is new to the series could get a kick out if it! 😄

Re: Mysterious Meetings and Cancelled Recording Sessions in Squid Sisters Stories, Chapter 3

Shikinouta

If the Squid Sisters aren't announcing the stage rotation who or what is? While the whole sequence got a little old 200 hours in I still found it to be a neat way to flesh out the character through their banter.

And yeah, it really does sound like a fanfiction I would have wrote when I was 14... 🤔 I think it's the mixture of the sentence structure, the coffee shop trope and name-drop of another NPC.

Re: Guide: How To Shield Surf Like A Pro In Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Shikinouta

Arguably my favorite mechanic in the game. It feels like it's own little game, but unlike most tacked on mini-games these days it's just SO damn satisfying to ride down a mountain side, narrowly avoiding cliffs and bokoblins. The aspect of shield-durability degeneration doesn't even bother me when the reward is so much better than the risk.
Stupidly fun little stuff like this in games always jives with me for whatever reason.

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

Shikinouta

Now's probably a good time to mention that "freedom of speech" as a legal concept only applies to the government and it's representatives. Playtonic is a private company and they have every legal right to withdrawal Jafari's VA.

If somebody wants to make the argument for free speech as a social concept I will absolutely agree with that point at hand, but at the same time Jafari should also be aware that words and intentions carry meaning and have consequences.

Re: Friend Codes Are Back on Nintendo Switch, But There Are Other Options

Shikinouta

@BLP_Software The point I was trying to make, which seemingly a majority here are, is that it's so incredibly arbitrary for Nintendo to throw away a system that worked well and came as a relief to many. If your theory is correct and Nintendo is wanted to start from square one, which could be correct for all we know (I'm not trying to shut down the discussion), and ape some of the features of their more popular consoles like the Wii and the DS, it would just be asinine on Nintendo's part to include a deprecated system that was panned across the board. The friend code system was not what made those systems great and commercially successful. 😛

Obviously, this is not the only way to add people to your friend's list and Nintendo adding the option to add friends from social media accounts is a welcome improvement, it's just another move from Nintendo that shows a certain amount of willing ignorance in the realm of online gaming.

It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out for the Switch in the long term regardless.

Re: Feature: Five Things We Expect From the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase

Shikinouta

As puzzling as it initially sounds, I'm actually waiting for either the Virtual Console or the release of Splatoon 2.
Having such a wide library of systems to emulate on the Wii U was a killer feature for me, the only problem was that the gamepad's range died just a few feet short of the hammock outside; true suffering.

While I have no reason to expect that the Switch's eShop will be as robust as the Wii U's currently existing selection within the first 6 months, I hope we'll at least get Nintendo DS games soon!
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in the hammock sounds pretty good to me c:

EDIT: I also need that Famicom joycon grip is in my life

Re: Video: Super Retro Boy Hands-On Reveals Neat Form Factor, Lack Of Rear Shoulder Buttons

Shikinouta

@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Somebody probably mentioned this already, but only the AGS-101 is backlit, all other models of the SP are frontlit! The frontlit screen sadly doesn't hold up that well compared to the modern screens of today, although the AGS-101's is still pretty beautiful! 😄

It is still a prototype, so if they fix the aspect ratio, I might pick it up as a Pokémon machine :3c

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

Shikinouta

It's a pretty fun Wii U game to get lost in, but the characters didn't have the same dynamic as the original. I listen to a few songs off the soundtrack now and then, but even then some tracks sound... well, not really for me 🤔
I much preferred the sweeping rock-orchestra soundtrack of the original, personally! Overall, it's definitely not a bad game and it had its moments, but as a huge fan of the original, it left me a bit confused and upset. It's like everytime the game did something awesome, it did something pretty awful in return. (F*#@ the Ma-Non's voices, it's like a chorus of dog whistles).

Also no cheeky English dub? That like made Reyn's personality for me 😗

Re: Nintendo Drops The Ban Hammer on Pokémon Sun and Moon Pirates

Shikinouta

@EmmatheBest Somebody might have mentioned this already (Don't have the time to read 50+ comments, hehe) but Nintendo recently revised the way they do console bans. Those guys who were messing around on the Miiverse were using an easily exploitable method in the 3DS' software, but Nintendo has since revised their console banning methods to use either a console-specific file on one of the 3DS' main chips chip (which would be pretty hard to mess with, not to mention less experienced users could dick around too much and break their system entirely) or Ninty could have used those banned console's MAC addresses, which would still be super hard to get around; more research would be needed to actually spoof said address so the banned console could go online again. It's possible they could have used console specific certificates too which are theoretically replaceable, but you'd actually need another hacked 3DS which also isn't currently banned.

TLDR: They're f*#@ed.

(Also if anybody is that stupid to play a leaked game, not only with wireless on, but to actually access the game's online features...? You got what was coming to you smh)

Re: Video: Let's Break Down What You Need to Know About Pokémon GO Plus

Shikinouta

The PokeGo Plus is such a super helpful little device, and really helps cut down on the grinding! If you're one of those people who is really set on playing Pokemon Go while driving, this seriously is for you, since it's just a one button press and you're done.

I went from level 13-14 to level 19 in the space of a week, so I'm gonna say this little bugger has already paid for itself!

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Arrives on the North American VC Tomorrow

Shikinouta

@Yoshi I have the Homebrew Channel with a Rhythm Heaven VC inject and havent noticed any difference between this and my cart... I've been digging into the Taiko no Tatsujin series on Wii U as well, and after some fiddling got the input lag down well into the playable range. Maybe that helps?

Its something that'll change between TV sets and resolution. If there was any input lag introduced by the emulation, I didn't notice it. I also tested Elite Beat Agents and that was damn ace as well...

Re: Review: Pilotwings (New 3DS / SNES)

Shikinouta

One of my favorite games on the Super Nintendo, but I can understand the critisism. I believe it was Mike Matei of Cinemassace fame who said, "it's one of those games you either get, or you don't."
