@Damo Whoops, I brushed over the part about him legally acquiring the rights (read it at 7:00, give me a little slack) and just assumed he bought the prototype off of eBay and was asking for money to make up for it. Well, It's a fair deal to ask for money to help with the cost in retrospect, I suppose I'm just a little to critical when I wake up! I'm just worried about Kickstarter abuse, after the Coleco Chameleon I'm understandably a bit wary.
A concept so stupid it's fantastic. The use of kickstarter to release games from their collector-imposed ransom however is a pretty grimy tactic. Really? You didn't make the game, it's not your intellectual property, and you have the hardware to dump it so just release the ROM image for preservation's sake.
@peppercollector Cheers! I sincerely appreciate any help I can get! Ive got a few broken original Xbox controllers lying around so I might use the parts from one of those, same difference as the PS2 as you might expect 😀
LED wirins sounds like a project, but a fun one at that! I havent studied the board too much (midterms coming up), so I cannot confirm whether the circuit is complete or not, but when my schedule starts freeing up, I'll take your advice! Seriously, thanks a million for your help!
@gingerbeardman It's always a shot! Soldering in the rumble shouldn't be too much of a chore are you might expect. It's a really nice controller, albeit a bit light. I actually was opening it up to put in some weights I bought down at the hardware store, opened it up and noticed the molding was off and you know the rest! Happy gaming, Pokkén is a seriously fun fighting game!
@AlexOlney Well said, I don't think a lot of people know the difference between the controllers, understandably so since it had a very limited release outside of Japan
@toxibunny My thoughts exactly. As i said in a previous statement, it's entirely likely that the code still exists, but it's not possible to actually modify said code until the homebrew scene for the Wii U takes off.
That said, I'd imagine somebody with a lot more patience and time than I could unpack an ISO and dig through Pokken's coding to see if such a thing would even exist. I'd imagine we might see such a thing pop up on The Cutting Room Floor (TCRF.net) in the future
@Kirk They were right! I bought this thing because I'm insane and like playing games with their intended controls! Now I'll probably go buy another to see if I can Frankenstein this back to it's original form!
I should mention, this wouldn't be the first time HORI has decked out their controllers with unnecessary but awesome LEDs. Check out the HORI Fighting Edge, it's my favorite arcade stick ever produced and just generally feels really damn ace.
@gingerbeardman Ill absolutely see what I can do, and while you're correct, Pokken probably has some code left which'll enable vibration, realistically I cant do much to enable it without a homebrew enabled Wii U (one of these days, maybe). The rumble would realistically only work on PC/Mac/Linux and the like until such a day would arrive
LEDs on the other hand would be a much simplier matter in terms of software, since the powering of the would be drawn entirely from the USB port (basically no software involved). On the other hand, it would be a lot more complicated since then you have to factor in polarity/resistance/currect etc. That's beyond my abilities, to be frank. Im am IT major, not an electrician. I'd give a thousand hats off to anybody who can get it to work
@bngrybt Yes, the TLDR of it, LEDs would theoretocally be easier for a qualified small appliances electrician.
@Blueberry As you can see in the photo in the article, the mold used for the arcade release is a lot longer, closer to the width of a Wii U gamepad. The home release is more like a Pro controller.
Thanks for publishing my findings! It's pretty cool seeing your name on one of your favorite websites.
Like @Atlantidas, I plan see if I can get the rumble working again, but I admit defeat on the LED front since that's a bit beyond my abilities. I'll probably have to buy another controller since I don't really want to bork this one up
@japongt It seriously unlocks nothing of importance. "Here's Shadow Mewtwo! You can only use him until you turn off the system!" It's nothing worth getting hot and bothered over.
That said, I don't mind the downloads as long as Nintendo puts in more than 32 flipping gigs in their next system. I have a lot of physical games (~140) and yeah, they look great on the shelf but at the end of the day, they're just gonna be taking up more room than their worth if I keep collecting. (I don't do reselling)
@Xenocity Hi, I know I'm super late and somebody already said this before but Steam lets you download and play games from external drives, as long as you have them plugged in naturally. Can't speak for PS4/Xbone since I own neither.
I like to digitally download a game when it fits, otherwise I try to get it physically because for all the reasons listed above by 130 other people. Used games for 360/PS3/Wii are super cheap at the moment so that's been an incentive too.
Pokken is a monkey's barrel full of fun, and I can't wait to dig into online when my controller arrives later today. Glad to hear the cheaters are going to get punished
I'm playing Miitomo at the moment and I'm absolutely loving it. It looks great on the Nvidia Shield Tablet and I've already dropped a few bucks on Miitomo coins. I knew I was going to like it, but not this much.
@Nintendian Honestly, probably both, but I'm not particularly complaining since I've been meaning to play Earthbound for a while but never got around to it, so swings and roundabouts
@Nintendian If you think that porting and compiling code from over 20 years ago is "click-click-done," then you obviously lack an understanding of how coding is done.
You're absolutely right, Nintendo could reuse the source and go through the rigmarole of porting, compiling and testing their games, but it wouldn't be cost effective on their part, and they'd probably have it done by the NX's release anyway. It'd be a nightmare for Nintendo's overworked code monkeys too, development is hell man
Slapping a high-level emulator together which would interpret the SNES system calls and translate those into something the 3DS can work with is a lot more viable and cost effective.
@Zibene999 Over the years, I can safely say I've played every single main series Pokemon game. Pokemon is to me as Mario/Zelda/Etc is to other people. I'm turning 20 this year as well, so the whole Pokemon series has been pretty integral to my identity I guess. I didn't really mind X or Y that much. I'm playing through Y right now and I'm enjoying it more the second time around. I would recommend giving it another go, even if the pacing is a bit stupid.
Frankly, for every update Nintendo puts out, the community comes up with another exploit. Not to mention that the people who use Custom Firmware don't even have to worry about updating since they emulate their NAND. Flashcarts haven't been relevant for years, since if you have the whole CFW thing you can just install games and they appear on the home menu like regular icons. Hate to say it, but Nintendo's losing the war on piracy.
Not in favor of piracy obviously, just trying to educate.
Don't understand how people survive without a smartphone in 2016, I don't even use mine for social media or anything. It's useful to look things up in the field, etcetera.
That aside, this looks pretty promising. I hope you don't have to wear the device like a watch, I already have one of those and it buzzes enough as it is
I still have my Mew that was giving out at the 10 year anniversary event! I have a few others from various events too, might as well add to the collection
I am all for using arcade sticks in fighting games, I spend 200 dollars buying a premium one myself, but you guys have to understand the game designed with the D-Pad in mind. It'd be like playing USF4 with a controller; yeah, it's possible but not at all preferred.
I still haven't jumped on the FE hype bus, mostly because I don't really get it to be quite honest. Hype is a seriously dangerous thing, I was burnt on Smash 4, Xenoblade X, MGSV, I've learned my lesson not to get s*** crazy anymore.
Still, I'm happy FE fans have another game I guess
@rarnik Use Speedtest.net and post results, other than that I'm not sure what else to tell you. Splatoon's servers are obviously in Japan so the Japanese players have the advantage to begin with
Don't know if that was just my adult brain warping the image, but that was rather, uh, racy might be the right word. Still loved the whole thing overall
I think it's somewhat interesting that there are more people interested in this statue now than there has been before, interest in the series I mean. Okami is definitely catching steam but... Hmmm... I can't help but call some bandwagoning .
@BlueNitrous Wait... how many of those actually came out in 2015 though? Charlie did say "exist" but in this context I'm willing to believe they were referring to games that were updated with DLC? Maybe? Give people the benefit of the doubt man, there's no reason to be that passive aggressive.
That is a list of good games mind you, but I'd argue that none of those, minus SFV, have the same level of polish Smash 4 does. I like my 2D fighters, but comparing them to Smash is just foolish
I was terrified we were getting another Kid Icarus character for a second there. Bayonetta is one of those games I always want to buy, but it holds it's 60$ price tag since it's such a good game so I never got around to buying it. I really love everything Platinum Games does, so to have Monolithsoft and Platinum in one game I'm a happy boy.
"W-what's that? You want even MORE Fire Emblem? You want ANOTHER swordsman?! WELL BOY DO YOU HAVE THE SOMETHING FOR YOU!"
I'm satisfied with Bayonetta, but I'm glad they are stopping the DLC here before we get another generic swordfighter from some Fire Emblem game we don't have. This is a lil' bit ridiculous.
