Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! isn't far away from release, kicking off with a limited run in theatres. It's essentially an origin story around Ash and Pikachu, though with plenty going on and a range of familiar characters and pocket monsters.
The build-up to the Western arrival has been going on for a while now, but with the 5th / 6th November release around the corner there's now a rather stylish theatrical trailer - check it out below.
If you still want to try and secure tickets head over to the official site to try your luck.
Are you looking forward to seeing this Pokémon movie?

So is this an alternate universe, or what?
I know that ORAS implied pokemon was a multiverse.
@Serebii?
Anyone else catch that little 'I want to be the very best' at the end?
This looks pretty good!
@Aurumonado Yes. It adapts some events from the first season, but does those events differently.
That and no Brock or Misty like everyone complains. Though they did show up in 2 episodes of the Sun/Moon anime recently, so there's that if you're REALLY dying to see them again....
So the beginning is like Season 1 but everything else is a mix of Seasons 10-20? At this point they might as well make it with an all-new characters.
Date release for Movie version around South East Asia (Indonesia) ?
The last pokemon season I watched was XYZ and it was actually really good!
Gotta be honest, seeing all the new Pokemon and Misty and Brock being replaced with "OC do not steals" in a movie that is supposed to be about Ash and Pikachu in the beginning of the series is incredibly jarring. It's a shame, because the animation is top-notch and the premise had so much potential, had it just stuck with the old stuff that was relevant back in the day.
@Tuulenpoika This is why I'm thinking that I probably won't see it. Rewriting the whole storyline of the original series is just a really stupid move. Brock and Misty were both incredibly popular, so why write them out?
I also can't stand the new voice actors (I know they technically aren't new, but ever since D/P or whenever the localization team changed, I think the quality went way downhill). They're trying so hard to sound like the original Ash and Oak, but they're still too far off and it's really, really jarring.
Nice trailer. Though I'm still not convinced at the change in Brock and Misty's role. I'm also curious as to whether this is a complete one off thing or are they trying to retcon newer generations into the anime back story ala how the remake games tend to do.
@Aurumonado It's just a retelling not in the standard anime canon
As long as this isn’t as heart breaking as Pokemon the first movie, I’m good, I’ve gad my vibe world ticket booked since they were confirming the screening 👍
I was somewhat interested until I discovered its not cannon at all.
@Aurumonado Nice to see someone else who's a fan of XYZ! XY and especially XYZ were absolutely phenomenal, better than any other Pokemon anime season IMHO. The maturity of both the characters and the plot itself is refreshing, it was not only watchable (which I can't say for previous seasons I used to watch as a kid) but actually engaging. XYZ 28 and XYZ 42-43 are arguably the greatest Pokemon episodes ever made.
I was considering trying to get to one of these until I found that the closest theater airing it is nearly two hours away. Not really worth the gas money IMO.
Did we just see Pikachu vs Celebi?? Or my eyes deceived me
Looks like an upgraded remake of the original series with some extras.
@retro_player_22 I mean, they are mostly all new characters.
I think it looks great! It's a remake or a reimagining or what ever!?
To me it looks like it's aimed at getting new Pokémon players (those who joined with Pokémon Go etc.) into the series more.
@dimi From the trailer I think the confrontation you're looking at is Pikachu battling Marshadow, the recent new event Pokemon for Sun and Moon.
Not the original voice actors, retconned brock and misty...why can yugioh do it right but pokemon cant?
@shadow-wolf
I agree with you. My biggest gripe was how Ash / Satoshi didn't win the league. But other than that I have no complaints.
All from a trailer giving me goosebumps chills excitement and tears of joy while I type this after watching it 10 minutes ago. I felt like I was a young child watching Pokemon first season I hope i can see this asap.
@shadow-wolf Yeah, they were really good seasons, although I think the Diamond and Pearl Saga is right up there with them in quality (excluding that major disappointment of an Arceus movie), and the Battle Frontier Season isn't far behind.
Can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the new US/UM trailer and info
@Aurumonado Yeah same here, but the huge number of positives outweigh that one negative for me. It's a shame that many people are writing off the season just because he lost, when there are so many great things they pulled off in XY/XYZ
@BulbasaurusRex Yeah Diamond and Pearl is definitely up there. I thought the biggest issue with D/P was that it didn't really change things up a bit, and IMHO XY/XYZ took the core of D/P and made it better AND added a whole bunch of new, good stuff (the whole romance thing with Serena, the whole Blaziken Mask thing, Alain and the Mega Evolution specials, Puni-Chan, etc.). But of course D/P does have some advantages, like better development for its heroine and a better rivalry.
@shadow-wolf Agreed on how they handled Dawn and Paul. Another thing I like best about the Diamond/Pearl Saga is how they handled the evil team. They made Team Galactic a credible threat without treating them as joke characters (unlike Team Rocket), continually had them make recurring appearances over the entire saga rather than just shoving them into the last season of the saga (unlike Team Plasma and Team Flare), and had a great ending climax to the their arc (unlike Team Aqua and Team Magma).
@BulbasaurusRex Huh that's interesting. I've never heard much about Team Galactic, though Hunter J was definitely an awesome antagonist. And I loved how Gary showed up and Ash used his old Pokemon, the continuity was great (one of XY/XYZ's biggest weaknesses).
That being said, I do still think XY and XYZ took what made Diamond and Pearl great and took it to the next level. D&P also felt a bit worn out, in the sense that it seemed like it didn't introduce a lot of new factors to the anime. XY and XYZ fixed that with a lot of different "firsts" (Ash fully evolving his Pokemon, Ash having a pseudo legendary, romance within the main case, Blaziken-Mask, choosing to have Team Flare finale as the main series finale, the Mega Evolution specials, the episodes after the Team Flare climax, etc.) IMHO. But both series are probably the best in the anime IMHO (along with the original perhaps).
@shadow-wolf Um, Ash fully evolved his Chimchar, Turtwig, and Starly, and Gligar in D/P (plus previous seasons had him fully evolve the likes of Charmander, Treecko, Tailow, Snorunt, and Phanpy); and he had Gible as a pseudo-legend. I personally suspect that the reason they had Ash face a guy with a Darkrai and a Latios in the Sinnoh League was because his team had become so powerful (along with the other powerhouses he used in that League like Heracross and Sceptile) that the writers couldn't come up with any other way they could believably have him lose after he finally overcame Paul.
As for romance among the main cast, there was always a ton of ship tease between Ash and Misty during the first five seasons. While neither of them ever acknowledged their feelings even to themselves, at least it went both ways unlike Serena's one-sided crush.
Also, the Team Plasma finale (actually the entire Team Plasma Arc) likewise wrapped up the Black/White saga aside from a silly trip through the Decalore Islands.
@BulbasaurusRex Good points. XYZ was the first time he fully evolved all his Pokemon on the team, and I was still a bit disappointed Gible didn't evolve fully to Garchomp. But yeah you're right, the reason the writers introduced Tobias was that that was the only real way for Ash to lose. (Although using Pokemon like Gible and Torkoal instead of only his all-time best was a bit disappointing). But overall D/P was good saga, it'd be nice if they make another series like D/P or XYZ.
