Re: IronFall Invasion Studio Is Bringing RISE: Race The Future To Wii U, 3DS And Nintendo NX

RobNYC1977

RE: the conversation going on in this thread about Dreamcast games not working. I have two meticulously cared for Dreamcasts (i got a random extra one for super cheap a while back) and it irks me how some games just won't read at all. ESPECIALLY some of the racing games. Test Drive 6 I think is one, like someone said! Some other futuristic racer too. Crappiest most unreliable system ever. (the dreamcast). Never had any issues with my Saturn, or any Nintendo system disc based systems for that matter. Is it the GD-ROM format that Sega used that is the problem? Some of the Sonic games won't work either.

Re: Poll: Do You Want The Rumoured 'MH' Next Generation Portable to be Separate from NX?

RobNYC1977

I'd rather they keep them separate, but if they are interconnected in some way I hope that Nintendo is able to release the console in three SKU's (hot pink, pale green, and electric blue) and that it's in the shape of a birthday sheet cake and that the handheld is in the shape of a cupcake (screen where the icing is, PLEASE! I am so sick of the disappointment that mobile phone companies do with this). It should be chocolate colored and have a pleated plastic back that shimmers slightly in the sun.

Re: Study Suggests Rising Smartphone Ownership Among Kids Is Hitting Nintendo Hard

RobNYC1977

Ginormous DUH.

I ride the NYC subways daily and I am often shocked at adults playing crappy phone games like Candy Crush and the gazillion iterations of what looks like something we'd playing in kindergarten. Then i'm like, ugh, stop being such a snob. Humans in general, at least in the Western World, especially the privileged ones have glommed onto infantalism in such full force the last 5-10 years that it's not shocking.

Me personally? I don't give a crap since I'm not a breeder and don't give a crap what happens to our human society. It is sad though what has happened to video games.

Re: Feature: A Night at the Arcade

RobNYC1977

FYI, born in '77 to give my last post a bit of perspective.

I do specifically remember when Nintendo came out (and sega) and thinking OMG I can't believe my grandparents (who raised me) bought me an atari 7800 for my birthday when I turned 12. I was like WHERE's MY NES!?!?! (I wound up saving up for one by selling basically everything I owned at at the weekly flea market in my housing complex).

Re: Feature: A Night at the Arcade

RobNYC1977

Without the beer, cigs, and coke, arcades are kinda pointless! (i kid, i kid) sorta. I remember back in the day, late 80s when gaming arcades were going out of fashion, there would still be local pizza joints and candy stores that had a few cabs in the back room. Me being a little kid was terrified to go back there with the teenagers though hahah.

So, i never got to experience REAL arcades... I have enjoyed my various visits to the various Barcades and their knockoffs over the years, but that always winds up just being a corny nostalgia trip and the games always suck because most are broken or too many people who have no real affinity of the genre clowning around the cabs drinking their crappy overpriced craft beers.

Re: Exclusive: FAST Racing NEO Update, Called 'Vertigo', Goes Live on 18th May

RobNYC1977

How about an unlock of all the tracks? That would be nice. I was looking forward to this game forever.. Bought it day one only to be completely turned off by the difficulty level. All the practice in the world wasn't going to help me after a certain point. The first one on Wii I had the same issue with. The difficulty in FZero for GC was fine, at least you still got to see every level in some way, in this game it just feels cheap and unnecessary. At least it was a budget title.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Should Shamelessly Exploit Its IPs to the Full

RobNYC1977

Perhaps. But it would make it even more embarrassing being a Nintendo Fan than I already am (i'm almost 40). I think Nintendo has gotten too Disney-esque over the years. I have no issues liking what I like, and expressing it, but most people do not. I don't want Nintendo to die, but i'd rather see it die graciously than grasping at pathetic straws such as movie tie-ins. As much as I am a HUGE nintendo nerd most of my life, I have never seen a video game movie or watched a tv show based on them. It's a major turn off and is usually just mega schlock that does nothing but sully the brand.. See: Sonic.

Re: Poll: Are You Confident About Nintendo's 3DS Focus for 2016?

RobNYC1977

The 3DS needs a good new racing game of some sort this year. Nothing coming out interests me, but it's just the genres i'm not that into. It got such negative reviews, but I thought Sonic Al Stars Racing transformed was a great port of the game.. And I have that game on Wii U (the second Wii U game I bought when I purchased the system that came included with Mario/Luigi), and the PS3 (got it super super cheap). I am very happy the Wii U version lets you use the Pro Controller, love that controller.

Oooh, I haven't looked on the eshop in a while, maybe there are some indie racers? (ugh, don't get me started on the last one I bought... called Family Kart Racing or something like that). Hello Kitty Kruisers on the WiiU was better than that (a game i felt totally ripped off by, but that's my own stupidity)

I'm also thinking about trading in my 3dsxl for one of the smaller New 3DS. Wish they had better color choices . Do you need to use the face plates on it?

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016

RobNYC1977

In many ways, Nintendo products, for hardcore gamers anyway, is very much an elitist thing to begin with. The systems hardly ever drop in price (maybe 50 dollars here and there every few years?) and the software always remains at premium levels until the Selects come out (but most people who are Nintendo fans already have those games). I don't like software dropping in price so fast though, I get very pissed knowing that a PS4 game I want will be half price in a few months, but I do bite quite often at full price enough. But I am always a bargain gamer. Always have been, but I got entranced this generation by the Wii U and PS4. My wallet and bank account isn't happy, but whatever. I'm a gamer and love games and wanted, for the first time since I was a teenager, enjoy games when they came out. I guess online play adds to that mindset.

These are strange times in the video game world, and it's exciting. Perhaps more to browse websites like this than actually purchasing all the garbage that is thrown our way... and I find stuff like Miimoto, etc, as total schlock and garbage to be honest with you. Amiibo's too.

Re: Poll: NX and Mobile Make This a Defining Year for Nintendo - Are You Optimistic?

RobNYC1977

THAT said, I only recently bought a PS4 and with the Neo coming out I am a little pissed, so there's a chance I might switch over to the NX.. But they need more racing games. The Wii U sucked for my favorite genre. I mean a few years ago I was literally excited for that absymal Hello Kitty kart racing game that I wound up paying full price for upon release. :/ If the PS4.5 gets a Wipeout (doubt it since the company is no longer, right?) I could be persuaded. I was totally looking forward to PSVR too, but not if I have to buy a new PS4 to enjoy it at optimal levels.

Re: Poll: NX and Mobile Make This a Defining Year for Nintendo - Are You Optimistic?

RobNYC1977

I am actually quite optimistic Nintendo can pull it together and bring in a new generation of gamers that love their product. However, I don't think I am in that demographic anymore. It has nothing to do with Nintendo games being kiddie or anything, but I can sense a major paradigm shift in the company and the industry in general. I do not want to see a company that I have loved a majority of my life fail, but I don't have any hopes that they are going to cater to me. Which is totally fine. I'll still buy every Mario Kart though!

Re: Nintendo Life Weekly: NX Rumour Denied by New NX Rumour, Preorder the Prettiest New 3DS XL, and More

RobNYC1977

I feel like this is the first time, ever, in my 30 plus years of being a video gamer, where I am following the rumors and news of new systems and being like whaaaaaaaaaaa.? It's also kinda fun watching everyone's panties get all up in a twist about consumer electronics.

I am not positive about the new generation being for me, but I said that same about the current generation and I bought in, and i'm usually a gen or two behind.

Re: You Can Now Pre-Order The Most Gorgeous New Nintendo 3DS XL Console Ever Made

RobNYC1977

this is so beautiful it's hard to look at it. i'm not a thief, but If I see someone on the subway with it, I might have a hard time keeping my sticky fingers to myself! These aren't region free are they? My first DS Lite was the light blue one from Japan, I loved that little machine. I find the colors of the current 3DS's kinda blah. I wound up getting the pink 3DS xl, but wish there were some better options at the time.

Re: Review: SEGA 3D Classics Collection (3DS)

RobNYC1977

SO excited for this. Preordered on Amazon so I can get the stickers and play Power Drift. I don't have any of the games on in this compilation so it's worth it to me, I can see how it's totally not to some people. I'd pay the full price just for Power Drift though, can't wait. Have an old 3DS though, so the 3D is wonky, but I usually just use it for a bit and wind up turning it off anyway.

Plus it's Sega and with the 3DS i've decided not to just buy any old junk games on sale like I did with the DS (I wound up with a giant collection, but so much schlock..) With the 3DS i'm making a carefully curated collection (that sounds so lame haha)

Re: Toys-To-Life Newcomer Thinks We're Growing Bored Of Pieces Of Plastic

RobNYC1977

I am SO glad I never got into collecting Amiibos. There was a small part of me that almost started and took the bait, but I've learned over the years how easy it is to get hooked into collecting stuff like this. It doesn't end well (for my wallet anyway).

I still would like one or two at some point, but I'm afraid to buy the first one.. You can't become a crackhead if you never pick up that first stem! that's how I view it.

I rue the day these things start turning up in goodwills and salvation armies, that's probably when i'll catch the virus of collecting these.

Re: Talking Point: PS4K 'Neo', NX and Supplemental Computing Devices - Home Console Gaming May Be Changing

RobNYC1977

And in a complete brain fart, I just now realized that those kids I grew up with playing Amiga were PC gamers. ?! I think there were Atari computers around for a while still at that time, because I got one at a flea market for 5 bux, but when I brought it home I attached it to a tv and all it was was a keyboard, literally. I just typed and the letter appeared on the screen. I had no idea software was supposed to go into it, nor my grandparents who raised me.

Okay, sorry for the tangent there, but it brings up an interesting point... The people PURCHASHING these machines need to be aware of what they do/function for. That never happened with the Wii U. Maybe it has, I'm not a parent so I don't probably get bombarded with parent spam.

I'm going to pray to the gods of 4/20 (hello, 3 hours from now!) and believe, FIRMLY, that the NX is going to be amazing. I am going to be a day one purchaser and run with it. I felt so burned by the Wii U that I totally believe it deep within my cells that Nintendo is going to make it right again, for us.

Call me crazy!
