SEGA 3D Classics Collection has been out in North America for a short while - let's have a brief moment of consideration for deprived PAL gamers, please... - and has nine excellent games on one cartridge (or download). Well, actually, it has ten.
Our glowing recommendation in our review was based on the nine formal games included, but there is some extra goodness to be found. If you don't want to know what it is because you want to find it for yourself then look away now. We'll even have the trailer below so you don't accidentally see the details...

Still here? Ok then, so here's how you get the extra game - thanks Sega Nerds.
- Go to the 'Extras' menu where Maze Walker and Fantasy Zone II (Master System version) can be found.
- Tap the area next to the 'Back to Menu' button and an enemy should pop up.
- Tap the enemy and the original Master System Fantasy Zone will load up, and that's your extra game. Enjoy it, and pleasingly it'll then appear alongside your other unlocked games so you can easily play it again.
That's it, taking the number of Fantasy Zone games in the collection up to three. If you have this North American version of the collection try it out and savour the extra 3D Classics goodness.

Nothing wrong with bonus games!
Wow, awesome! It kind of boggles my mind why they would keep it secret and not advertise it, though. I mean, I'm sure no one didn't buy the game because it only had 9 games instead of 10, but still.
OH AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Especially amazing that it didn't only just take beating every single one of the other 9 games on extra super duper hard!
This gamer who sucks at gaming is pleased
And those stickers are proudly on display on my bag and laptop
Thanks for the cool info! I just hope this doesn't lessen the chances for an international release of the first "Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives", since that was originally required to unlock SMS Fantasy Zone in this game (supposedly, anyway). If only for the absolute lack of international releases of Outrun 3D and Space Harrier 3D, we NEED "Fukkoku Archives Vol. 1"!
Also, there needs to be a "Sega 3D Classics Vol. 3", which includes the rest of the Sega 3D Classics from the eShop (ie, 3D Gunstar Heroes, 3D Streets of Rage 2, 3D Sonic 2, etc), with a few extras thrown in, such as "3D (SMS) Sonic the Hedgehog"...
I am very much wanting this. Just spent a 50 bucks on Star Fox on April 22nd though.
Imagine how cool it'd be if Nintendo did something like this with some of their retro classics.
Sega needs to revive the Fantasy Zone series again.
This one, and Space Harrier and Alien Syndrome.
They could've just brought this game using DLC.
But they didn't.
I have a newfound respect for Sega right now.
@John_Enigma Ooooh! Alien Syndrome! I would love to see a remake of that one if not a 3D port!
@Hey-Cha-La Me too! The multiplayer options would be insane!
@Ralizah Yep, and the hidden game would be Urban Champion. At least it would be the 3d version. Does that really matter though.......
Nice bonus! This already great collection just keeps getting better.
I had a felling FZ SMS with FM was in the US Sega Classics Collection when I read the translated interview at blogs.sega.com discussing it and saw English screenshots. The original game didn't have FM. The new FM is very well done and better than the FM on most SMS carts. According to the interview, the FM also works on real SMS hardware.
I wouldn't mind seeing a 3D remake of Gain Ground, Golden Axe, or Alien Syndrome.
aww, I was hoping to play Sonic CD on my handheld
oh well, this works too. already have it on PC
Looks like I'm gonna have to import Sega 3d classics and use a hack to play it.
That or buy a 3ds flash card.
@Seacliff this wasn't added post release so the DLC comparison is a little flawed, worse so the it seems a separate release was required to unlock this 10th game in the Japanese release. see Gauchorino's comment near the top
@Seacliff Not really. I for one bought all the games separately and now I have no way of getting the new games in this collection without buying all the games I already own again. So I would have welcomed DLC options here.
This really needs to come out in Europe or I need to buy the American cartridge and use it with my old 3DS XL with the region free hack.
@Spoony_Tech Hah, yeah, you're right, Nintendo would totally hide Urban Champion! I wonder why they love trolling people with that game so much.
I'm going to pick this up before I go on vacation. I hope they release a vol. 2 with Afterburner and Hang-On
A volume 2 sega please!! Need Outrun, streets of rage and the rest of them!
Is this Sega collection available on the EU eShop or would I still have to grab each game individually? So far I've only got Gunstar Heroes and Out Run.
I've downloaded my entire 80-strong collection of 3DS games (about 30 of which are full retail titles) from the eShop, so there's no sense in going physical now! Besides, I spend quite a lot of time in hospital and the convenience of not having to haul dozens of physical 3DS and Vita carts around with me feels strangely liberating!
If only Sega liked European cash
@ReigningSemtex
European money weighs too much unfortunately, at least a pound!
Cool to hear, now all us European Sega gamers need a release date, as we know this will also come to Europe
