Re: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Gets New 'Very Easy' Difficulty Option

Richnj

@thiz as @thaliard said, "to each their own" is not a defense against what comes next, and if "but I dislike this" had come next, if that was what you said, it wouldn't be an issue, but you didn't say that. You said "but why play a Horror Game if you dont want a challenge. Its like playing Amnesia and modding out all the encounters. Cmon bruh." which isn't giving your preference, it's criticising the preference of others.

I don't think understand the difference, but there is a difference. When talking the existence of electric push bikes, it's like saying "I prefer to ride a bike because I enjoy the exercise and the challenge" vs "to each their own, but why even ride a bike if you are just going to put a motor on it. It's like having a motorbike. Cmon bruh".

Do you honestly not understand the tone and implications of those two structures of sentences?

Re: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Gets New 'Very Easy' Difficulty Option

Richnj

@thiz

1) Not everybody's idea of difficult is the same. This may still be hard for some people.

2) Some may want to build up to a challenge. Using a lower difficulty to practice and learn the controls and skills to play.

3) Some may not want a combat challenge, but may still like the horror atmosphere and puzzle and problem solving. Sitting in front of a movie might solve the difficulty factor but also does not offer a mental challenge either.

4) The higher difficulties are still there and a lower one does not hurt your experience. If you are upset by a very low difficulty, then why not just remove all difficulties below the highest one? I mean, since the only way to really experience the game is at higher difficulty, there's no point in anything lower, right?

Re: Doug Bowser (Kind Of) Addresses Complaints About Switch Online's Nintendo 64 Emulation

Richnj

The Nintendo Switch is nearly 5 years old. Both hardware and software have been selling like crazy.

NSO has been out for 3 years, and has 32 million subs.

Neither the OS or live service has been drastically overhauled or improved in that time. Adding N64 and Saturn has been the biggest change so far, and that's come too late, and with a pretty hefty price tag.

Why should anyone take Nintendo seriously?

Re: YouTube Is Hiding The Dislike Count, Good News For Switch Online's Video Team

Richnj

@Savage_Joe but that conservatism is relative to their current state. So what was once a left ideal (like accepting women, minorities, and LGBT people as equals) becomes a standard of conservatism. And what we once considered standard conservatism becomes far right. The overton window still moves left.

@Grail_Quest Gen X also favoured the left more than the right.

@Berserker7 That's a lie, but your failure in the thought experiment is why young people don't like old conservatives.

@Berserker7 https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2020/05/14/on-the-cusp-of-adulthood-and-facing-an-uncertain-future-what-we-know-about-gen-z-so-far-2/

Even Gen Z Republicans are more likely to sympathise or even agree with typically left leaning ideals.

Gen Z are either as lefty, or more lefty than Millennials, and both gens are way more lefty than any gen before.

If you think that the young gen are very Conservative, then you must only visit right wing echo Chambers.

Western society is headed left. Always has, always will.

Re: Switch Online Surpasses 32 Million Subs, Nintendo Says It Will Continue To "Improve And Expand" Expansion Pack Tier

Richnj

Well technically I'm one of those, but only for a couple more weeks.

We had all assumed that when new consoles got added they'd get added to the standard service. And I was OK with paying early on because I wanted to support the expansion and improvement of Nintendo's online systems.

Since it's now clear that none of that is happening, I've cancelled my auto-renewal.

Re: Rare's N64 Classic GoldenEye 007 Is No Longer "Banned" In Germany

Richnj

@HeadPirate Microsoft and Activation could release "Golden Eye - The same game as the one you played on that other console please buy it""

So why didn't they?

""Golden Eye", they let it expire in 2017, and it's now held by Activation"

Are we talking trademark? Because Acti don't own that. Danjaq do, as seen in @Slowdive's comment. And if we aren't talking TM, then what?

Re: Rare's N64 Classic GoldenEye 007 Is No Longer "Banned" In Germany

Richnj

@HeadPirate "Sure, but even if true that just means 1 of the 8 parties you need to sign off on it might not be interested. It's only "on Nintendo" if you have permission from the other 7 already."

May I please refer you back to the link that I and NL provided that states that everyone but Nintendo signed off on the project.

" On top of that, I doubt the own anything other then the right to call it "Golden Eye 64" ... so for Nintendo to publish it online they need the permission of everyone but Microsoft wouldn't need Nintendo's permission to publish it as "Golden Eye - Master edition""

If that was true, the remaster would have been released without the '64' in the title. Since we know Nintendo has zero ownership of the "Goldeneye" trademark. And since we know Rare most likely has ownership of code and content of Goldeneye, since they were able to release Perfect Dark, my guess is Nintendo still retains ownership of publishing rights of the title. Which is a pretty big deal.

Re: Looks Like Dune's Coming To Fortnite

Of course it is. Fortnite isn't a game. It's an advertisement billboard that has you pay to be advertised to, by a company that got paid to advertise someone else's product to you.

Re: Metroid Dread Studio Hit With Allegations Of Poor Organisation And Management

Richnj

@Yorumi Given the fact that I and apparently many others in this thread have also experienced abusive or toxic work cultures, the simplest answer would be that yes, these environments do exist across the board and there are not any legal avenues for you to go down.

Dismissing every single complaint as just a disgruntled dev is actually the zebra answer. Since you have to rationalise that not a single one had a valid complaint and that the companies are actually super cool and fair but yet still spit out disgruntled devs.

@Lordplops I'd hate to have you as a friend.

"hey, I'm struggling, and I find this thing to be unfair"

"dEaL wItH iT"

See, when someone highlights an issue, you have two options, you support them in changing the issue, or you do anything else (which is what you did).

You can try to step back a little from what you said but you might as well be the one cracking the whip.

The only thing necessary for evil is for good men should do nothing.

Re: Nintendo Leaker Suggests Pricing Of Switch Online's Expansion Pack Could Be Tied To "Licensing Costs"

Richnj

Between subbing to access Sega games on Switch, or playing the versions I already paid for and own on xbox, think I'll stick with Xbox.

It's also not a good sign if Nintendo felt like the NSO service needed Genesis and Banjo titles so badly that they paid that kind of money, instead of, I don't know, just releasing the N64 titles that Nintendo already own and that people have been asking for.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

Richnj

@Bentendo1609 "£3 a month, that's nothing"

Yeah, but xbox live and PSN+ work out to about £4 a month, but that comes with much better quality of online services, and a better selection of free monthly games, as well as really deep discounts on games.

Literally. The only argument in NSO's favour when it launched was "it's very cheap, and therefore, good value(edit: and if they added N64 and GC games it would be really good value)" but it's not much cheaper than alternatives now, and definitely not better value.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

Richnj

@Stocksy Nintendolife kinda have to defend this. They've spent years defending all sorts of poor practices. Be it poor or low effort ports, over priced titles, or even the online offerings. Then we have all the Nintendo fans who have done the same.

To draw a line here and now would raise questions on whether or not defending the other stuff was actually the right thing to do.

Best to keep consuming and decry all criticism as entitled.

Re: Metroid Dread: Raven Beak Final Boss Battle - How To Beat Raven Beak

@treechenho Yeah, I think socially I was obligated to put "/s" at the end, but the absolute absurdity of expecting people to have played and finished, or be finishing, the brand new game on the day of release just felt like it was enough when I typed it.

But, then, there are those who are like that, so...

@Duncanballs "I have to say you are proving the route cause of the issues on this thread in my opinion. I have given an opinion that you don't agree with. You are constantly challenging other opinions when they do not align with yours"

I have just joined this thread, at over 300 comments and made two comments, talking to two people (3 and 3 if we include this one). I hardly see how I am the root cause of anything that was going on here. Or how I am "constantly" challenging anyone.

"My version of how I see the colour blue will be different to yours. No manner of training will change that."

That's fair, but if you were to give a critical appraisal of a picture. You wouldn't say "that blue is blue" you'd talk about how the blue was applied to the picture, why the artist used blue, what they intended you to feel and think when you saw it, and how well they did that. That is something that more training could help you understand and use in your critical review.

Re: Review: Metroid Dread - Quite Possibly The Best Metroid Game Ever Made

Richnj

@Duncanballs If reviews are just "opinions" then they have no business being paid to be given and no business being separated from those of user reviews

Professional critical reviews are meant to be just that, critical reviews.

People don't seem to understand that professional reviews are meant to be an in depth critical analysis of a piece of content. They are suppose to break them down and evaluate them on every level to understand the intent and how well it achieves that intent.

This whole "reviews are just opinions" business is exactly why modern gaming review systems are a joke.

Re: Patent Reveals Nintendo Is Working On Upscaling Technology

Richnj

@CharlieGirl I honestly can't see myself being excited for any Nintendo console that's not a hybrid design.

I find the handheld, motion controls, and VR platforms to have limited appeal, and the home platform already has plenty of choice.

I either need a Switch 2 with full Switch BC, or I am sticking with what I've got until I'm completely bored with the content that's already on the system.

(either that or move to steam deck).

Re: Another Fan Claims To Have Reached Nintendo Switch's Maximum Hour Count

Richnj

Remember when I was an unemployed kid and adults would give me 'the look' whenever I told them I played PSO for 250 hours. Hitting 10k maybe be less of brag than it seems.

Speaking of, is idling in a game really that much of an achievement?, is it really attention worthy?. I feel like anything less than "that's sad" isn't really a worthy response to this.

Re: Rumour: Developers Have Reportedly Been Working On "4K Switch Games"

Richnj

I mean, they did just release a new version, and if it was confirmed that a better version was coming out in a year or two, then they aren't going to be able to sell you 3 switches instead of just 2.

@huyi In fairness, the PS4 Pro and PS5 can't handle 4K for their games either and have to rely on techniques to recreate a 4K image, and much of the industry seem to be headed to the future of FauxK rather than full 4K. I highly imagine a 4K Switch would do a similar thing.

Me personally, I'd just rather have hardware good enough to run games at 60fps and 1080p, since I prefer to play on a smaller screen closer to my face. But if we have a new Switch that allows us to have performance and visual modes, then everyone wins.
