Re: Ubisoft Explains Wii U Watch_Dogs Visuals as "In Between" Current and Next-Gen

Quickman

@DrScottnik Me to, apart from Rayman Legends, Ubisoft have been a bit of a disappointment IMO.

The fact that they said that they still have issues with the Wii U architecture, is very worrying indeed. Especially when other devs have been saying how easy it is to work with.

But in saying that, the PS3 and 360 versions of Blacklist were not exactly a "smooth ride", says more about Ubisoft than than the Wii U really..

@LDXD You could buy Rayman Legends at £26 before it was even released at some UK sites, then Amazon dropped it to £20.99 after a week or so, they did a similar thing with Splinter Cell too. One week I bought three brand new Wii U games for around £60, which I was very happy about...

The prices seem to fluctuate here for some reason, just had a quick look and Rayman is now back up to £31.99...

@TheRealThanos Well Ubisoft games in general are not exactly a smooth ride, which is another reason why I find that quote interesting. We know that Shin'en can back it up though, so can't wait to see what they have in store..

Shin'en also make comparisons between the eDRAM of the 360 and the Wii U and goes on to say that not only does the Wii U have more to work with but it's also used a lot more efficiently and has way more versatility from what I understand, Interesting stuff.

BTW my copy of Rayman Legends turned up this morning

@TheRealThanos It will be interesting to see the next Shin'en game that's for sure..

Again I bought Blacklist and thought that they should have done more than an 360 port with higher frame rate but I am enjoying the game, seems like the current gen is holding the Wii U back a little regarding multiplats.

I also bought Rayman Legends a few days ago so I'll be looking forward to that, I mean a great multiplat game that was built for Wii U? There's not many of those around atm..

"The Wii U architecture poses some technical challenges that we’ve been able to thankfully overcome. It hasn’t been easy, but we’re really proud of the final result on this console."

I find this comment interesting, especially if you look back at the Shin'en article with Manfred Linzner, who basically said that he was amazed how much he could throw at the Wii U without any slowdowns, even with zero optimizations. He went on to say that with only some tiny changes he was able to optimize certain heavy load parts.

Also Two Tribes sent out a very positive tweet regarding the Wii U's texture compression capabilities..

Re: EA Executive: Shigeru Miyamoto is 'Falling Down on the Job'

It's no secret that EA wanted Origin integrated into the Wii U's OS, there is no strong relationship at all as EA are employing "Dreamcast tactics" on the Wii U.

I find it weird how they keep referring to this gen as 4th gen, when EA started publishing console games on the Megadrive. EA also wanted to publish games on the NES but Nintendo said no as they wanted "more lucrative terms" than everyone else.

@WesCash Obviously you and Richard Hilleman haven't read this article.

Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass Confirmed for Wii U

£37.99 (Amazon UK) + £15.99 DLC = £53.99 No Thanks!

I really don't understand why people are so into DLC? You're basically paying full price for incomplete games.. and then paying extra to download the rest of it.

In saying that though, if you bought this with the DLC, it's still cheaper than Splinter Cell if you bought it from the eShop.. (that's SC without any DLC)

Re: EA Executive: Shigeru Miyamoto is 'Falling Down on the Job'

EA have always been a s**t stain on the industry, back when they were trying to get into the console market Nintendo refused to give them publishing rights as did SEGA, so they decided to muscle in on the console market by acquiring a "rogue" Genesis devkit and reverse engineered it in order to blackmail SEGA in to giving them a deal on EA's terms. They also dropped support for the Dreamcast over "SEGA SPORTS" because EA wanted the whole pie and they don't like any form of competition.

Now it looks like they're now trying do a similar thing to Nintendo, because "allegedly" they refused to integrate EA’s Origin online service into the Wii U as it’s main online OS.

...and regarding the "legacy" thing with FIFA... EA have been doing this since 1993, it was only when PES started to get popular (being the much better game) and people found a way to mod the game to incorporate licensed kits that EA actually decided to make changes to the way FIFA played by basically copying the the old PES engine.

Re: FIFA 14 on 3DS is Officially Just a Kit and Roster Update

Quickman

@Peach64 FIFA now plays exactly the same way that PES used to so it's not like EA have done anything "revolutionary" themselves to improve the game.

You can go on about how many units the game has sold and how EA tried to change the game engine in order to make it a "half decent" football game, but it still doesn't change the fact that nobody would care about the game if EA didn't have the monopoly on a "full, exclusive" license..

Like I said before, without the official license, EA wouldn't even be allowed to call it FIFA.

Re: FIFA 14 on 3DS is Officially Just a Kit and Roster Update

Quickman

@Chris720 Idiots, I mean "people" still do because of the official license, EA are the only publisher to have "full rights" to every league because they have exclusive deals with a lot of clubs.

Without that monopoly they wouldn't have had the biggest selling football game for so long as even if other companies make a better football game, people still want to see all the official teams, players and kits etc.

Damn! Without those rights EA wouldn't even be allowed to call it FIFA...
