"The reason you have the turn-based combat battle system goes back to the very beginning, before the games even released in the West. This is a story-first series and these are story-first games. The general trend, at least in Japan at the time, was for story-based games to be turn-based. What that does is that essentially allows the players to take the game at their own pace and not have to feel pressure because of all this frantic action that they constantly have to worry about. Players can slowly go from place to place, enjoying the game and enjoying the world that's been created."
This guy truly gets it. And the fact that Trails core writing team has stayed together for over 20 years is a testament to his leadership.
Right, because making the protag for a Rune Factory games the leader, the village chief, the prince, can't make them absorbs the runes if they're not the one farming? really?
Making farming less of an emphasis and focusing more on relationship, combat, and domain management fit Rune Factory brand even more than old titles. You're not inheriting your farms like any Story of Season games. If anything, Azuma finally made me realize that the farming and ranching in the game feels disconnected with the story when your character has always been the Guardian of the Earth. Bless the earth like Azuma protag and let your people run your farm.
I'm in complete agreement of this. Guardians of Azuma is the best Rune Factory game period. While it simplified the farming system (that should just be with the Story of Seasons anyway), it introduced a completely fresh socializing system and village management. This should be the brand for Rune Factory going forward, less farming, more combat, more socializing, more management. Keep farming to Story of Seasons but evolve the social aspect of it.
Excellent excellent title, I hope they keep these features for Rune Factory 6.
Vanillaware absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Hopefully they'll make a sequel or another game with the same mechanic as this is a very strong IP that could be a great contender on a genre that's been long dominated by Fire Emblem.
@Lizuka While it is a fair assessment after playing Engage, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
3H and Engage was developed at the same time with two different teams in IS; if anything, this should be a good sign that Intelligent Systems is still capable of creating compelling story and new mechanics with 3H and fantastic combat with Engage.
Personally, I can't wait what they're cooking up next when they combine the two into one game.
Absolutely fantastic Direct. Lots of JRPGs love but also different kind of games for a wide spectrum of gamers being introduced. The best part, all of them actually showcased gameplays and not just CGI trailers.
Sex sells, and shonen manga author like Mishima is known for this kind of artstyle. This wasn't even his worst design as the characters were well proportioned.
But of course we'll have people like these two that always thinks the world only revolve around them to be obnoxious and pedantic about things that aren't.
Imagine looking at this trailer and the only thing you can focus on and somehow get offended was the breasts that was only there for less than 3 seconds.
@Joshie0234 No, Orbments systems are what made the Trails series more fun to play. It allows you to customize your characters and have crazy builds like 0 art time spellcaster Rean and realized it was a viable combo to complete Nightmare with.
@dragonsrevenge It's 2024, there are tons of new media out there. "but there's a ton of legwork required of the player to get there." is just not true.
Any new players motivated enough to start the game while not caring to play on their own time for the previous games can always watch hundreds of well-crafted user videos about the lore so far to catch up.
The game is also nice enough to always include "The Story So Far" section with every new entry.
As an OG Fire Emblem player, the change that Three Houses made towards the social element was crucial to make you care more about your units. This was also what introduced new players to the title as well as emphasizing the story behind each unit. Those works for them.
Engage on the other hand, moved the scale too far back on the other end. It's really hard to care about your units when you barely know nothing about them and in turn, hard to pick the game again after you beat it once.
It also helped that Three Houses have technically 4 different stories weaved into one game while Engage was linear and boring as *****.
I spent over 500 hours with Three Houses and only did one playthrough with Engage. I never picked up Engage again after I finished the main game and DLC but I still return to Three Houses here and there because I miss the students.
Very well deserved. It was a fantastic entry into a genre that has been really barren for a while, and hopefully it'll be a continual IP for them to create a sequel in a space that has been long dominated by Fire Emblem.
Definitely a game made you wanting more and more even after it took me 100+ hours to complete everything the game has to offer. It was just that good.

This is captured on PC thought right? there's no way a Switch was used in this trailer.

Just a matter of time, but a great news nevertheless. The Switch is now home for all Xenoblade Chronicles.

Ooof this is rough. I was really looking forward to this since the cowards at SEGA refused to do anything at all for their Skies of Arcadia IP.

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Promises A "Bold New Direction" For Franchise
This absolutely looks ***** amazing, but after RF5 ***** performance and random crashes, I hope they got this one under control.
Or at least release it multi-platform this time, because RF5 ironically was best played on PC.

Engage for the combat, Three Houses for everything else.

Nintendo doesn't miss.
Re: Talking Point: Is Summer Game Fest Really Missing Nintendo's Presence?
Summer Snooze Fest needs Nintendo, and for $250K fee to display a trailer, Nintendo doesn't need the Fest.
Direct >>>>> Fest.
And after the way Geoff handled TGA with "wrap it up" BS, I won't even bother watching anything he touches anymore.

@dragonsrevenge God, I forgot how fragile you people's egos are after being shut down for your inane remarks. Sorry about your toxic narcissism.
Re: Marvelous Officially Reveals Farmagia, A New Monster Game Releasing This Year
Then you're not the target market now is it?
But your narcissism thinks that this trailer was for you and this is an airport and you had to announce your departure.
If you disagree with the art direction, don't consume the materials. See how easy that was?
Re: Marvelous Officially Reveals Farmagia, A New Monster Game Releasing This Year

Says more about you than the game.

Is "Beauty Blade" instead of "Sword Maiden" still here to stay though?
What a crappy translation that was.
Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat

Re: Rune Factory 4 Special And Rune Factory 5 Are Both On The Way To Switch
Thank you!!!
Of course I will be buying both. I enjoyed RF4 back in DS and I'm sure I'll enjoy it again on Switch.
Besides, I want to support these developers to let them know that we - the Rune Factory fans - are still here.
