Re: Nintendo Launches Animal Crossing: New Leaf Miiverse Drawing Event

Prof_Clayton

@rjejr More titles are going on sale because after the Wii Shop, Nintendo actually gave the developers more liberty in the eShops to offer different prices. Before they were pretty much set in stone.
However, Nintendo is still reluctant to discount its own games at all, except special launch offers (like the Zelda Oracles eShop launch day deal). So it's half a step forward.

Re: Review: Steel Diver: Sub Wars (3DS eShop)

This game is very addicting, even in the free to play version. I've been having a blast online, and it's all been free!
Solid review, I agree on every part, especially the sound effects. I love the ones where the people in the subs start talking in the background!

Re: Review: Spot the Differences! (3DS eShop)

Prof_Clayton

"With the different sizes of the 3DS screens, we found ourselves occasionally mistaking a spot around the border of certain photos for a "difference," when in fact it was just part of the picture that wasn't visible on the top screen."

Was the game so bad that they managed to make the bottom screen image larger than the top screen image?

Re: Guide: How To Become The Ultimate Monster Breeder In Pokémon X & Y

@Serebii Thanks for the info!
Now I have to get a shiny charm to help with my Masuda'ing.
Also I knew they weren't really "hackers" (I still don't think 3DS has been fully hacked yet) but I used it as a broad term for, getting information out of the game you're not supposed to see, I guess
Also, I'm just curious, does the shiny charm temporarily give you multiple shiny IDs, or does it limit the Shiny IDs of wild pokemon and eggs to a smaller number to increase the rate?
@AlbertoC The Destiny Knot was in Gen V, but was only given the breeding ability in Gen VI.

Re: Guide: How To Become The Ultimate Monster Breeder In Pokémon X & Y

  • The shiny charm does not actually help increase the shiny rate of hatched eggs, only wild pokemon met in battle.
  • The odds of hatching a shiny pokemon using Masuda method is confirmed to be 1/800 something (863 I believe, don't quote me). This has been confirmed by hackers (the same ones who discovered the 1/4096 number).
  • As a heads up, resetting will not change the IVs or Shinyness of an egg unless it is a few in advance. Basically, the game calculates the IVs and Shiny ID of the next egg as soon as you pick up the current one. So resetting for a shiny every egg is pointless because it will never work.
  • Using a Talonflame with Flame Body ability is the best, because it can fly to Kiloude and hatches eggs faster, and only takes up one party slot.
  • Eggs have a chance of appearing every 255 steps, around the length of a max repel. After recieving an egg, moving left all the way up the multiple stairs, then back to the daycare will always give more than 255 steps, and then it is safe to head right (if there was no egg), which is safer since it is closer to 255 and sometimes you can take less (ie, taking 255th step as the breeder is on screen, and he won't turn around). So always start left.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms Super Smash Bros. Changes to Edge Grabbing Mechanics

Prof_Clayton

Wow.
This means that edge grabbing will likely be used less, as it was a way to get back onto the field after being smashed off, as you are usually hit off with high damage. That together means you need skill to get back, amd can't just hang there... and it basically shifts the battles more towards land then in air.
And letting grabs be trumped means that there will be less time spent on the edge...
All in all, their goal was obviously to keep people from making returns as often after smashes, especially against serious players, giving them an edge if they are in better health and not being flung around.

Re: Review: Unepic (Wii U eShop)

Good to have Indies on Wii U like this. It shows promise.
Funny how no matter how you look at it, Indie will always end with die, and Wii U will always be called dead. A perfect match.

Re: Satoru Iwata Explains Reduced Projections and "Large Margin" 3DS and Wii U Sales Misses

Prof_Clayton

Honestly, Nintendo has made some dumb decisions with the Wii U. Mainly, they needed to quickly get a Must Have Title out there, besides more Mario. Because casual people even won't buy excess mario. Or wii sports again. And hardcore people don't want Gamepad focused Rayman, or easy mario, or Zelda remakes.
People want new experiences. Who would spend money on the same thing again? So far, nearly everything Wii U has Wii had better or the same, besides graphics. And Wii has a lot of games to choose from.
3DS is how the Wii U should be treated; get major franchices on there, and ACTUALLY MAKE THEM NEW. What has been new on WiiU? Nothing. Maybe control scheme, but that's nothing big.
Nintendo needs to just get some new content out there... Tropical Freeze won't cut it. MK8 may do it if it has enough new ideas. Even Smash Bros needs more than an HD covering.
With every rehash Nintendo releases, they are just lowering and lowering the world's expectations of themself, and losing their target audience.
Didn't see that big gap coming, eh Iwata? Maybe now you should acknowledge that canyon, and build a support bridge over it, instead of looking for a way around (because with the size of the gap you made, you'll never get around it).

Re: A Third-Party "Secret Developer" Gives an Inside Story of Working on Wii U

Prof_Clayton

This is obviously by EA. They were with Wii U from the beginning, raising it up like a child, then dropped it day 1.
They left many things out too.
If its EAs, I'd say they couldn't program it from stupidity over the hardware's fault. Games can be ported just fine. They have been before.
They basically said, "Wii U won't do the work for us. Who wants to spend money to make games? Let's go to Sony where we watch them make games for us for pennies, and make millions."

Re: Nintendo Left Online Out Of Super Mario 3D World To Deliver The "NES" Experience

Prof_Clayton

They're just struggling with online at this point. Delayed games because of it, taking games down, not including online in many games, no voice chat, XY/Christmas server crash... they left it out so the game could be better because it probably was failing to work right.
To deliver the "NES" experience would mean to use new technology in new ways... how is doing this new and innovative I ask you?

Re: Level 5 Is Hard At Work On A New Game That Will "Surprise" Us

Prof_Clayton

Make a spiritual Wii Sports 3D, like Wii Sports, waggle included in gyro controls! Now you can shake until the top screen snaps right off! And that's not all, the graphics will be even worse than the original, with a 3D effect that'll punch you in the face its so realistic(ly bad)! And the actual sports are followed by minigames where you put your 3DS in sleep mode for 10 hours! All in the name of creativity.

This would certainly go against predictions.
