Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

Pandy-the-Panda

@TruthisRare
The review is definitely overly harsh. The game controls great, story is great throughout (one of the best in the series), interactions may be simple but they’re really fun for fans, and the combat isn’t shallow; all that isn’t even to do with the port.
The game looks great in docked, and not necessarily bad in handheld (it is noticeable difference). It’s 30fls but has no noticeable frame drops in either mode and never stutters. If I have had any glitches they’re not memorable. It’s the exact same game except for graphics, so it deserves at least a 6.5.

Sonic fans argue with each other over things in the series that don’t even matter (shoe design, quill size, shade of blue, art style). When they see something they don’t like they blow it out of the water, so if anything they’re too critical about things. Most Sonic fans have HATED the direction the series has been going in for the last 10+ years, and it’s finally going in a direction that most of them can agree on.

How can it be “a Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New" when most Sonic fans (who are VERY critical on mediocre & bad Sonic games) loved it after playing, some who have hated the series for 10 years even LOVED it; you don’t just go from love to hate over a mediocre entry. Plus a majority of critic reviews actual did give the game good-amazing scores… Failed attempt? Not at all, it’s just your opinion.
Honestly, Alex’s 3 hour stream was a better review then this, especially cause you can SEE his reactions to the game.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Sonic Frontiers?

Pandy-the-Panda

Solid 8/10
The story is great and makes call backs to previous games to expand lore, the dialogue and interactions are great and not cringe anymore, I’ve noticed no frame dips or pauses, it looks great on my big screen tv, all the different moves are fun, the music is all bangers, speedrunning the stages in fun, and each island boss feels like a final boss of any other games with epic action and a banger vocal track.
The poll will definitely get filled with trolls who haven’t even played. No game that took actual effort to make deserves a 1 or 2.

A 4 ain’t right, but it’s only one review so what’cha gonna do. At least the people are enjoying it, any way they can.
I’ve played over 15 hours on Nintendo Switch and have had experienced no frame drops or pauses in gameplay, and while handheld looks kinda rough it’s still completely playable. I’ve also had no platforming or combat glitch’s, I haven’t seen anyone else bring it up either.
I hope Alex does the video review since he was enjoying himself on stream.

The Cyberspace stages we’ve seen so far are either brand new or pulled from games considered very good by quite a lot of people (Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Generations, Sonic Adventure 2). Some people may hate some parts of these games (me included), but most of the normal modern Sonic stages in them are considered top tier by most who’ve played them properly.

Re: Sonic Frontiers To Get A Digital Prequel Comic Alongside Animation

@Anti-Matter
Honestly who really cares that much about having prologue’s and dlc announced before the game when they’re literally all free. I especially don’t see the issue with letting people experience the prologue’s before diving into the game, that makes perfect sense. The only little thing wrong with free bonus content is that they could’ve just been put in the game.

I also don’t know how you see this as a distraction from bad quality when so many people have played the game by now (including Sakurai) and most have reported great over all quality. Sonic Colours Ultimate didn’t have any kind of demo, so it’s issue’s couldn’t have been picked up until release.

Re: Sonic Frontiers To Get A Digital Prequel Comic Alongside Animation

Pandy-the-Panda

According to Ian Flynn (writer of these comics and Frontiers) these prologue’s are just “extra gravy” on top of the existing in game story, which makes it sound like they aren’t actually required in order to fully enjoy/understand the story like the Forces comics were. Which is what this advertising strategy should comprise of.

Speaking of, Team Sonic Racing had a comic and an animation, with neither being of any importance to the overall story.

“So sick of bad design: run right so fast you can't see the next hazard, get hit, lose rings, scramble to get 1 ring, run again and not see a single thing in the stage, finish.”
My eyes are slow at seeing and even I’ve never had this issue in Sonic 2 (or 3). If you’re actually trying to play the game then you should definitely have enough time to jump over or spin through enemies/obstacles in the way, especially on the current widescreen versions.
Sonic isn’t even that fast when running on a flat surface, and running should be replaced with spinning whenever possible (such as going down hills) so you don’t just run into an enemy and take damage. The game also doesn’t force you to go fast all the time, and when it does you simply roll up to dash through oncoming enemies.

Sonic 2 is a great game that’s just fun to run through in an afternoon, my group loves racing to see who can finish first. Before you say we’re nostalgia blind, we’re not, I’ve only had the game for 5 years and my friends have only had it for a few months.

@-wc-
Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast has aged extremely well. Lots of people argue that adventure fans have this thought just because of nostalgia bias, but I literally played it for the very first time last year and it was an absolute blast with no real issues.
The rereleases do have a lot of issues, which didn’t help with it’s reputation.

Sonic Frontiers is definitely giving off adventure vibes to me as well, it’s really shaping up to be a very good game.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Is Getting Free Monster Hunter DLC On November 14th

Pandy-the-Panda

@Bunkerneath @Old_Man_Nintendo
As @TopazLink said, this crossover DLC is repaying Capcom for the Sonic content that was put into Monster Hunter Rise a while back. Both of these collaborations are just fun nods to each other and would’ve been made in conjunction with each other (pre 2022), meaning that this has nothing to do with their confidence being shaken. Anyway, It was probably Capcom who set the date for this to be announced.

Also, why would their confidence be shaken? Most of the people who have gone to the recent events and played the current demo build have said very positive things about the game as a whole.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Is Getting Free Monster Hunter DLC On November 14th

Pandy-the-Panda

It’s nice to see this after the Sonic Content drop in Monster Hunter. Having full on costumes and a unique cooking mini game is very cool, I just hope you can mix and match cosmetics to have the armour with the Soap Shoes. This also means that Sega probably has more collaborations for us further down the track. Since they’re willing to go this far with free dlc, the digital deluxe cosmetics must be out of this world.
I’d also love a paid story dlc sometime next year if the game is successful.

Re: Super Sonic Shines In New Sonic Frontiers Trailer

Pandy-the-Panda

@russell-marlow
Super Sonic hasn’t been mandatory in any Sonic game released in the last 10-11 years, in fact Forces didn’t even have it in the base package and required no work (except a free download) to unlock. Mania is the only game within that period that actually has a purpose for Super Sonic, and that wasn’t even mandatory.
So it actually is surprising to see Super Sonic being relevant and mandatory this time round.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Offering Free Sonic Adventure 2 DLC To Newsletter Subscribers

Pandy-the-Panda

@RubyCarbuncle
I just want to say that I’ve subscribed to 3 or 4 of these Sega newsletters in the past, and the only emails I’ve ever gotten were: a confirmed of sign up along with an advertisement, another advertisement at launch, and then the dlc code; after that it was just nothing. I personally never minded 4 emails in exchange for free stuff.

I’m in no way trying to convince you, I just wanted to mention that they’re pretty chill with the spam.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Offering Free Sonic Adventure 2 DLC To Newsletter Subscribers

Pandy-the-Panda

@KindofaBigDeal
I actually played the Adventure games (Dreamcast versions) for the very first time last year, so I have no nostalgia for either one. I found the first game quite fun and extremely playable, with a few minor nitpicks (mainly fishing). I didn’t have a lot of fun with Adventure 2 except for the first few Sonic stages, but that’s a me issue, the game is definitely playable. I’ve heard many times that the re-releases of the games don’t work as well though.
Side note: Sonic Generations controls great.

And most people who have actually played Sonic Frontiers (especially the latest demo) really liked it and said it controlled great for the most part, so who are we viewers to judge if it’s a mess or not.
