@Kraven i can't say i agree. Totk has "more" stuff to find but the overwhelming majority of it is recycled content, some of it was even from the previous game. Botw's world was novel on a first playthrough, but totk lacked that novelty and was 3x more aggressive about content recycling. Caves and the Depths were almost insultingly boring content with almost nothing to find except korok-tier collectables and the very, very occasional new outfit.
@Shepdawg1 This is literally the boiling frog analogy. You'll continue to say this until you're paying exorbitant prices for even the smallest of features, yet you'll still be defending it or being dismissive of it as a non-issue.
Enough is enough. Nintendo must face consequences or they're going to continue trickling these anti-consumer practices in, killing off video games in the process as they become industry-standard.
@pichuscute0 Switch 2's line-up is pretty bad, but I'd say that games are still great elsewhere! Now is the perfect time to get into indies, some Japanese RPGs, some action games... there's actually a robust amount of great games to choose from, and most of them are much cheaper than Nintendo's asking prices. If you want to send a message to Nintendo that you are not satisfied with their line-up or prices, then imo you should try considering what the rest of gaming has to offer. Nintendo may be in a rut at the moment, but there are definitely still some games worth considering.
@Lizuka Yeah, Switch 1 was simply just a BotW machine until later that year. But then it got two more major first party titles in Q4 2017.
I have to agree; Wii was the best launch line-up. There was a reason why it was flying off of shelves in 2006 and was impossible to get for many months.
@Dr_Awkward I'd rather be able to afford food as well as buy more games for less with the money that I make at my job, thanks. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, in fact most people aren't. There's no need to be bragging about your bloated paycheck, if it's even yours.
@Divide_and_Wander It's not undervalued at all. Nintendo wants you to think that it's priced fairly, but it actually isn't. Case in point: companies make money off of sales and discounts all the time, but Nintendo refuses to put things on sale because they want you to believe they are genuinely worth $80, and it's working. There's actually a brand new AAA RPG coming out that's being made by a French developer, known as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and it's up for preorder for $50, $45 on Steam. That's one example of how Nintendo's practices are malicious and misleading. They want you to think that it's inflation, when it really isn't. It's 100% them trying to attract investors with the big numbers.
And it should be no surprise, given the current leadership at Nintendo. Doug Bowser was a former EA exec, and Shuntaro Furukawa used to work at GameFreak. That alone should be very telling that these people are not your friends. And if you don't understand why, well, looks like you need to do some further reading.
@Cotillion They didn't add:
-Better UI
-Themes
-A more organized eShop
-eShop music
Besides game performance, those were the features that people wanted most, and they added exactly none of those except for the performance boost that naturally comes with the hardware. Oh wait, no, you have to pay extra for the performance boost, my mistake.
@Koxen Because you blatantly said incorrect information, "Xbox was already on the way out." You tried to deflect by spreading misinformation. This is where you were objectively wrong.
@Dr_Awkward Nintendo is the richest company in Japan and makes billions off of NSO. The price increase was not justified or needed. They are trying to attract shareholders. This has nothing to do with inflation.
@pepsilover2008 It's the same principle. "If you don't like it, stick to the previous one." Both decisions were made for monetary benefit as well. You can argue over the finer details all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that there is validity to the comparison.
@Bondi_Surfer ???? If you're really as old as you say, you'd know that there were controllers that were practically TV remotes back during the Atari days. Clickable sticks have been the standard since the mid-90's.
@Yosti Is there a reason why including achievements and enjoying something are mutually exclusive? You can have both. Nobody is forcing you to do those achievements, and including them is good for the people that want them.
Achievements can also be a major social aspect, yet Nintendo bafflingly won't include them with the system despite their major push towards a more online-interactive environment in its marketing. It's a fumble all around, another to the massive list for the Switch 2.
@johnvboy Because Nintendo already makes billions off of NSO, a feature that costs them nothing but server maintenance while they rake in billions from it. It is greed, plain and simple. Software shouldn't be $80, it's a freaking joke.
@Xenoblade-Fan Thinking there might be some sort of justification is at best naive, and at worst willful ignorance.
-Charging a simple tutorial separately from the already-expensive system is something that not even Playstation is scummy enough to do (yet). -NSO is their main source of income, not the MSRP. It costs literally nothing for them to charge people online access for literally no reason. They make millions if not billions from this alone, as it's steady income that doesn't involve game development costs. The sole reason for increasing the MSRP is to make it even easier for them to please shareholders. It is not due to inflation or increased development costs. -$80 Switch remasters is insulting for games that are several years old at this point. BotW and TotK don't even come with anything new, they just run better, which frankly is something that the devs could easily flip a switch and achieve the same result to achieve better performance. Instead, they sell that flipped switch separately, for $80. You know there's something off when those remasters cost more than Donkey Kong. -Nintendo is the richest company in Japan, and they didn't get that way by being generous with the MSRP. Games aren't worth $80, and they know that, but they'll charge you anyway because of the shortsighted "optimism" of Nintendo fans, AKA wishful thinking.
You are being scammed, plain and simple. They are nickle and diming you in whatever way they can, and there is no limit as long as you people are willing to pay the price of Nintendo games. Each game could cost hundreds of dollars each and you'd still buy it. The problem isn't inflation, it's the people who refuse to take a stand and say enough is enough.
Not wishlisting a single thing until they decide to lower the absurd MSRP. Games are not worth $80. Nintendo didn't become the richest company in Japan because they were struggling to make money, so don't listen to anyone that tells you otherwise. They're sad individuals.
If Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can make money at $50 with visuals and scale as amazing as those (it's even up for pre-order for $45!), then so can Nintendo. Nintendo fans need to stop deluding themselves.
@Darkthany Nintendo doesn't do sales, and no, we're not being crybabies. Nintendo is being greedy and we are rightfully calling them out. Don't be a shill please.
There is no reason for it not to. Astro's Playroom was free, so this should be, too. A tutorial for a system being sold separately is inexcusably greedy.
Don't listen to him, he is obviously bought and paid for by Nintendo. It is propaganda. Let them know that we are TIRED of being screwed over by game companies. #DROPTHEPRICE
@KidSparta And companies have already offset that difference with MTX, mobile, and paid online. This argument has been disproven countless times. You just want an excuse to not think about how badly you're being screwed over. Again, there's a reason why this industry is the most profitable in the entertainment industry, and it's because you got gaslit into believing this lie.
@contractcooker That's not inflation dude. That's corporate greed. There's a reason why the games industry is the most profitable entertainment industry, and it's because they sucker in people like you.
LMAO So let me get this straight, they're overcharging for their games AND they're making bundles FOMO? They're competing with Actiblizz for worst company now. This is outright diabolical, how can anyone want to support this?
They created the problem in order to offer a solution. This shouldn't have cost a thing to begin with. If PS5 can offer it for free, then so can Nintendo. This is BS.
Not spending 80 bucks on a Mario game, sorry Nintendo. Will be skipping the Switch 2 until they offer more reasonable prices.
Slash the console price by $100 and games by $10+, or no deal. The fact that the thing can't even run Elden Ring at 30 fps while asking for that much is outrageous.
Nintendo seems to be making it clear that anti-consumerism is the main selling point of the Switch 2.
-Gamecube exclusive to Switch 2
-Switch 1 upgrades aren't free
-Astro's Playroom equivalent is sold separately
-Region locking returns for no feasible reason
-The only console incentive that they're showing is voice chat, which has been a staple of console gaming since the early 2000s
-Previous SD cards aren't compatible with Switch 2, comes only with 256 gigs of storage
What an embarrassing outing. I hope this thing underperforms.
@Dee123 Bruh, that's not it at all. The game was announced as a Switch 1 game back in 2017 and was always planned to be a Switch 1 game. If it were that unimportant to Nintendo, they would have just scrapped the game when the original Bamco version got canceled in 2019 instead of passing it on to Retro.
I don't know why people still insist it's Switch 2 footage when Nintendo was very clear about there being NO Switch 2 games or news in this Direct. The clarification was even in their tweet and the video thumbnail. It's also an insult to Retro Studios to think that it's impossible for a Switch 1 game to look this good, a team that is known to be the best in the business when it comes to pushing Nintendo hardware to the limit while also maintaining very good performance.
