Re: Australian Board Rates Ubisoft's First Ever Virtual Console Titles

Omega

Maybe I'm wrong. But as far as I know, none of the early Prince of Persia games for the SNES, MD or PC-Engine was neither produced nor distributed by Ubi-Soft. And I can hardly imagine that the Gamecube or GBA versions make it to the Wii's Virtual Console. This will probably be 3DS-only, if anything at all.

This also applies to Rayman. I doubt that we ever see a Gameboy Color game on the Wii. Unless Nintendo has an unexpected surprise up its sleeve for us Wii users.

Re: Review: Xmas Puzzle (WiiWare)

EnjoyUp did a good job with Chronos Twins DX. And now they're annoying us with boring and ordinary puzzle games. Too bad. - Hopefully, Soccer Up is more interesting.

Re: Review: Pinocchio's Puzzle (WiiWare)

Omega

When I saw the picture of Pinocchio, the old Disney Jump & Run games like "Castle of Illusion" on the MD or "Magical Quest" on the SNES came to mind. (Don't ask me why.) Unfortunately this one is actually just another puzzle-thing of some sort.

Re: Rumour: Strider Bound for Wii Virtual Console

Omega

The good news for me is not that Strider is going to have a western release. It is rather the fact that the Virtual Console is not totally abandoned yet and we can hope for some more titles.(I want Monster World 4.)

Re: Super Street Fighter II with Online Coming Westward Too

Omega

I'm not interested in Street Fighter that much. But the fact that the Virtual Console is obviously still alive is a good sign. And I recently asked Nintendo (via E-Mail) about the future of the Wii's Virtual console and they answered, inter alia, "Certainly it will please you, that for the future a variety of other Virtual Console games are planned."

Re: Review: Gnomz (WiiWare)

Omega

No, this game is nothing for me. It's the kind of game that I wouldn't want, even if they tried to give it to me for free.

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd November 2011 (North America)

Omega

I don't think they stop the Virtual Console completely. At some point they stop or lower retail releases because producing retail games is expensive and they want to focus on the WiiU. But producing VC games is not really expensive (because they already exist) and they can use the same games for Wii and WiiU. I'm confident that Nintendo will continue to release Wii VC games sooner or later.

Oh, come on. Almost all N64 games have sound effects, 3D models, animations, textures, fonts.

Voice acting isn't necessary and you don't need high-resolution textures in a game that is otherwise minimalistic. This does not increase the fun factor of the game at all.

And let's face it: Why can't they make genious games like Banjo Kazooie for WiiWare? Is it really because they "only" have 40MB of memory. Or is it the price limit of 1500 points?

Re: Machinarium Finally, Officially Cancelled

Omega

I agree with TrueWiiMaster. The problem is not the 40MB size limit but the inabilty of today's programmers to write small, efficient programs. A skill that has been subsequently been lost. For example: On the Nintendo 64 Super Mario 64 uses 8MB of memory, Banjo Kazooie uses 16MB of memory and even Zelda Ocarina of Time only uses 32MB of memory. But a simple game for WiiWare like Toki Tori uses around 35MB of memory. Now, isn't that strange?

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd November 2011 (Europe)

Omega

@James: Thanks for the recommendation. I agree that the VC version has been around longer and is more established. I bought 0 points via credit card and maybe download it this evening. But maybe I'll wait for a review first.

Re: Japanese Virtual Console List: November 2011

Omega

The lucky Japanese. But I'm confident things will get better elsewhere soon. I mean, Nintendo have been holding back the new titles for almost five months. Then we can probably soon look forward to an extraordinary outpouring of new titles.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th October 2011 (North America)

Omega

Though I have nothing of it, it would interest me too if the "new american version" of Ark of Sinners is much better than the european release. It just looks too good to ignore. A few more paragraphs in the review, referring to the U.S. version, would be highly appreciated.

Re: Feature: Fun and Frights on Nintendo - Part 1

Omega

For me, the origin of spooky games is Ghosts'n Goblins. The Commodore 64 version (which I played until the tape broke) has that fantastic music from Mark Cooksey which no other version has. It has that nightmarish sound that makes the song creepy and rocking at the same time. And the graphic was fantastic for 1986 while the game was (and is) a blast to play.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th October 2011 (Europe)

Omega

I'm interested in the Kyotokei demo. I want to see if it's as brutally hard as Ikaruga. - And nice that we get a WiiWare game that has been america-exclusive so far. Maybe we get a few more soon. - And I'm still hoping for Monster World IV for the VC. Wasn't that already confirmed several months ago?

Re: Review: Fish Tank (WiiWare)

Omega

Another game in the vein of Tetris, Columns, Klax, Dr. Mario, Puyo Pop & Co.

I see it like this: Only difference to aforementioned games is they used fish (how original!) instead of gems, blocks or pills and the fish swim from left to right instead falling from above. And they used the WiiRemote to control things.

Is this really worth to interrupt your afternoon nap? Not for me.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th October 2011 (Europe)

Omega

I'll download the FAST demo even though I'm pretty sure I don't want the game. Just for demo-completeness. Perhaps I will eventually get a standing ovation for downloading all of them. - Otherwise, nothing for me.

Re: Interviews: QubicGames - Gnomz (WiiWare)

Omega

I don't doubt that the game is maybe worth the money. But a statement like "...what would the gamers do with the 200 left?" to justify the price is just ridiculous. A serious company cannot make such mistakes imho.

I don't know how you analyzed the market but I've talked to other WiiWare gamers too and most of them told there's a difference between 800 and 1000 points. Actually: 200 points.

Re: Interviews: QubicGames - Gnomz (WiiWare)

Omega

Some guy wrote:

...people buy 2000 or 3000 Nintendo Points cards and even if we released Gnomz for 600 or 800, what would the gamers do with the 200 left?

Pfffft... That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard. Come on Michał: When there are 200 left and next time you have 300 left there are already 500 and you can, for example, buy Flowerworks (in Europe) which also has gnomes and is furthermore pretty good.

Re: Review: Wario World (GameCube)

Omega

This is a very good game. It has good graphics, good controls, fluid gameplay, many collectibles, high replay value, GBA connection and the humor of the protagonist and many more. It was one of the best GC games when I bought it eight years ago and still is one of the best.

Re: Review: Horizon Riders (WiiWare)

Omega

I like Space Harrier and Sin & Punishment. And I like how Horizon Riders looks. But unfortunately I don't own a Balance Board. And I don't buy one just for this single game.

Re: Nintendo UK Launches New WiiWare Portal

Omega

It's almost the same as the Nintendo Channel, that's superflous.

Nintendo of Europe should give us some good games from USA that aren't released in Europe instead. For example MDK2.

Or they should offer us a way to play games from other regions on PAL consoles. Maybe the NTSC-Channel. I would even pay 500 points for it.
