@Moon lol there's no reason they'd have to be turned on at the same time. They just need to be timed separately. So long as you start it up right when it's fully charged, you can time them weeks apart and it won't matter.
@XCWarrior Maybe because you're wrong. Here's a more digestible breakdown from Nintendo Today:
"Nintendo announced its quarterly earnings report today, where the company revealed that business is good, to put it bluntly: they raked in $1.5 billion in revenue and made $569 million in profit on that."
On top of Nintendo Life's line: "to break it down, Nintendo now thinks it'll make a profit of about $790 million, instead of roughly $350 million [for FY17]."
Yes, Pokemon carried them. The conclusion, regardless of if one franchise saved them, is that they're not doing poorly for the fiscal year. Revenue is naturally down because the Wii U has been killed; it'll shoot back up with the Switch, if pre-order numbers are any indication. The fact that revenue is at a low, yet they can more than quadruple their profits from a year ago is absurdly impressive.
Also, that's not what that means. You're going to definitively say it reached "saturation point" because YOU haven't seen people talk about pre-ordering it lately? That's as anecdotal as it gets. Just for fun, I looked at how many times the Switch has been mentioned on Twitter at work (I work in analytics and have social tools for this). With my half-assed Switch query, I see roughly 2.2 million mentions. The daily average over the last week is still almost 16,000. Now, these aren't necessarily ALL pre-ordering talk, but I did include "Switch" and every variation of ordering/pre-ordering in there, and news of them upping production is being shared a ton right now. Needless to say, it's still one of the more talked about things you'll find on Twitter. Outside of Trump-related things, of course.
This was one of my first thoughts when they showed their support for eSports in the trailer. It seems like the easiest competitive game to bring over to the NS right now, and on top of Smash and Splatoon, gives them a pretty good core of games for an NS eSports event.
@HappyMaskedGuy It's a 3-minute video... It's probably short notice because it's not much of an unveiling. It will, however, probably give us a date for the full unveiling.
The timing of his comments could be tied to the BGAE2 pictures Michel Ancel posted. Maybe the NX exclusivity rumors are true, and Ubisoft wants to make sure it sells.
@LegendOfPokemon There were like two new ports and a ton of exclusive content. You don't have to buy the ports. Regardless of whether the exclusive stuff excites you, it doesn't change the fact that most of what they showed were not ports.
Loved it. Yoshi, all of the RPGs, and the Zelda amiibo. Can't wait to get the OoT Link amiibo! Also, Mario Sports Superstars looks legitimately fantastic and well done. Also pleasantly surprised with how Mario Party Star Rush looks to date.
@Yorumi No, I'm not rewriting history. In fact, you thinking that they were hopping on the Wii bandwagon is the epitome of rewriting history. People were fed up with motion controls by then (hence Sony and Microsoft's lack of support). Yeah, Nintendo talked about the fact that third party developers were developing games for the Wii U launch. There's a MASSIVE difference between developing games and developing GOOD games. The Wii U got support at launch in that sense, but it was crap. Developers complained that their games didn't sell well on the Wii U but the major sticking point among media and Nintendo fans was that they weren't even trying to provide good ports and gave the Wii U lazy ones. The ONLY Wii U multiplat that's considered the superior version is Rayman Legends, and that managed to get on the Wii U first, meaning it was actually developed with the gamepad in mind.
And third parties complained about developing around the gamepad (which is Nintendo's fault) because a lot of people don't have pro controllers.
@zool I can agree with that, but in two or three years. The only way I'd approve a Smash 4 NX launch would be if they DID have plans to make a new one.
@Project_Dolphin Yes, software sells hardware. Software that they own do not. Remasters (unless they're full on remakes like FFVII) do not sell consoles. Remasters are also more expensive than $20 unless they are digital only. You underestimate the cost of producing physical copies. And people remember Nintendo's older games more fondly than Sony's. The reason Sony has the upper hand in producing remasters is because they have a significantly larger install base, nothing more. Nintendo has the software advantage by far.
@Yorumi LOL there was no support. Developers were pissed that the console was packed in with the gamepad and no traditional controller, and they were pissed that it was barely stronger than the 360 and PS3 and significantly weaker than the PS4 and X1, which by the console's launch, they already had dev kits for. It got less than stellar ports of already released multiplat games at launch, with the only third party exclusives of significance, at least at the time, being Ninja Gaiden 3 and ZombiU.
And you're remembering the Wii's life cycle entirely wrong. The Wii's sales died down significantly in the last few years. It peaked REALLY early and had a massive lead on its competitors by then, but the PS3 and 360 all but caught up by the end of the generation because people stopped buying Wiis. It's why they pretty much completely stopped supporting it after the Wii U was released, whereas the PS3 and 360 are still receiving good support.
You're also flat out wrong about third party games on Nintendo consoles. Third party games don't sell AS WELL as Nintendo's first party games, but they aren't avoided. I think you're forgetting that games like Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Monster Hunter, and Yo-Kai Watch are third party games, with the latter two being among the best sellers in all of Japan, let alone on just Nintendo consoles. I'm sorry, but you're remember the last generation and the Wii U's launch COMPLETELY wrong. You're not even close to being on the money.
@zool I agree, but Smash and Mario Maker are different stories. Those are competitive/online games with huge communities. Mario Maker will continue to be played without a sequel and the NX install base will probably be much higher. Smash, on the other hand, isn't guaranteed a fifth release, at least from Sakurai, and you know fans would crucify Nintendo without a Smash game on one of their home consoles.
@Yorumi You don't know this at all. Most signs indicate that they will at least start off with strong support. There have been leaks that insist it's much easier to design games for the NX and that developers are happy with the specs, plus some major developers have already been vocal about potentially bringing games to the NX (Dragon Quest, EA, a few indie devs). You think Nintendo puts Cloud into Smash if they weren't promised an NX port of FFVII Remake? Keep in mind, that game isn't a PS4 exclusive. It's merely released for the PS4 first.
@retro_player_22 a) They would lose so much money if they sold all of those REMASTERS (not HD ports) for $20 physical copies, and b) why do you want so many remasters? That's not what sells consoles. That's a niche market for people like you and I, and as a collector, I already own most of those games and their consoles.
@Lizuka People didn't buy a Wii U because they couldn't play many games on it. Sure, it has great first party games, but those were so few and far between. With third party support, on top of these first party games, it's MUCH more likely to sell.
Zelda, Smash Bros., and Mario Maker should be guarantees. Zelda for obvious reasons (no one will buy the Wii U one after NX's launch), Mario Maker because you can't exactly make a sequel to that game and you want that community to continue, and Smash Bros. because we're not guaranteed a fifth game from Sakurai. Splatoon? Honestly, just make a sequel with two-player online and a better single player campaign.
A mobile version of a console Mario Kart, sure. A mobile-exclusive Mario Kart? Hell no; they would be alienating their real "core audience" (they are absolutely not on mobile — that's their target audience, not core) that stood by them through thick and thin.
@manu0 That's an incredibly flawed way of grading. We're taught that certain marks are good and certain ones are bad. I understand grading a big IP relative to other games in its franchise, but we've been taught at an early age that a 90-100% is exceptional, an 80-89% is good, a 70-79% is average, and so on. The scores are independent of each other, but the grading system is the same. Therefore, a 90% should be seen as better than an 80% at all times. If Yoshi's Woolly World is a great game but is being held back because it didn't match up to the exceptionalism of Yoshi's Island, that shouldn't affect its final score. It's a double standard; just like we shouldn't compare scores, they should also be graded independent of each other. The more well-known ones are unfortunately not.
They ain't wrong. With that said, there are so many good Wii U games that it I have absolutely no regrets with it. I probably own double the amount of games for Wii U than I would for PS4 and Xbox One combined. Next year's Xbox One lineup, on the other hand... Sony's another story altogether. The PS4 is unbelievably underwhelming right now. My roommate will only get it when Persona 5 comes out and he's always been a big fan of Sony-exclusive RPGs, but he doesn't even have anything he wants before or after. I'll play Shenmue 3 on it, of course, but that's about it.
Can't wait to play the Wii version. I think the Wiimote is based on preference, but the game was designed around the Wii, and it's the only version that Naka personally worked on. He had nothing to do with the Wii U and 3DS ports. I'd be willing to bet the camera and controls are much better in the Wii version, as well as the game as a whole. If that's the case, then it sounds like it will be a very fun game.
@Yorumi The Wii U has more third party support than the N64 and GCN did... In fact, the Wii U has already more than double the amount of games the N64 ever put out, which is the smallest gaming library of any Nintendo/Sega (sans SMS)/Sony/Microsoft console ever. Yes, less than the Saturn and Dreamcast.
And outside of the SNES, when the original Star Fox literally went beyond the console's limit, when has a Star Fox game ever pushed a console to its limit? You could say Adventures did, as Rare was known to push consoles to their limit back then (and it had WAY better sound and graphics than Assault), but that's really it.
Your complaints about Mario Kart 8 sound like they're about Mario Kart in general; how much further can one go with a kart racer? It easily has the most content for an MK game. It has the most characters and tracks, and new gameplay features that didn't exist in previous games. It's also much better than Mario Kart Wii, which is probably the worst MK game. Let's be a real, a "real" battle mode hasn't existed since 64, and probably won't ever again.
As for the "safe" sequels? GMB really took care of that, but I'll add to that. 3D World might be safe in the sense that it catered to 2D and 3D fans, but it added multiplayer for the first time in a 3D game, as well as adding new powerups; that's not safe. SSB4 has been anything but safe (see incessant bitching from competitive fans), not to mention it also released on the 3DS to limit what the Wii U version can do (e.g. Ice Climbers), which is the opposite of safe. Star Fox is utilizing the gamepad to its fullest, which again is not even remotely safe. The new Animal Crossing is an entirely different spinoff. The new Zelda is supposedly the biggest ever (safe is Twilight Princess, which coincidentally is also the worst for me). Yoshi's Woolly World isn't trying to copy Yoshi's Island like most Yoshi games are, which is not safe. The new Kirby was again a break from the core gameplay, which is not safe. DKCTF is as tough, if not tougher than ever, which is not safe in today's market. Mario Party stuck with the bogus vehicle thing, which is not safe (and not good). Funding Bayonetta and Devil's Third were not safe bets (and it looks like only one will pay off). A new IP in Splatoon is not safe, especially an FPS of that kind. The Sega contract was not safe (and terrible). And lastly, porting Rodea to Wii U (and 3DS) might not be a safe bet since Yuji Naka didn't work on the ports. Pikmin 4 and NSMB might've been safe, but Pikmin's so unique that just having a game is all that matters.
Not all of those were successes, for sure, but it's safe to say that Nintendo has taken a LOT of risks with the Wii U. Also, your ideas for Star Fox do not even remotely appeal to me. You're failing to realize that what you want for the series is what YOU want for the series, not what's best for them. I'm glad you (nor I, as my ideas wouldn't be any better) have absolutely no say in what goes into these games. I'd rather let these brilliant developers and designers see their ideas come to fruition.
@C-Olimar I can see that with a limited edition product or something in incredibly high demand, but why with something as unknown, and that has had nothing but negative leaks for the longest time now, as Devil's Third? There's literally no benefit to it. And the review itself makes it pretty clear it's not a good game, I don't think you need to score to crack this review.
If it makes you feel better, they have put up a review roundup, and the results are godawful.
Didn't vote for him, but was never against him. He's so different from the other characters (and from many of the popular ones being voted on), that it's a great change of pace. Excited.
@ricklongo That's not necessarily true. Nintendo invested money they were sitting on into QOL. They had a ton saved up and would've probably continued to do so if not for QOL, considering how historically conservative they are. For a dedicated gaming company, their consoles and video games are first and foremost, and they've repeated this over and over again. While these resources take away from something, the development of the NX and all of its games are in no way affected by the development of QOL, unless they're somehow tied together. In this particular scenario, time and money spent here does not mean time and money not being spent elsewhere. It means time and money not being spent, period.
@ricklongo Why do people keep thinking making this or that will take away resources from this or that? Like when people thought Triforce Heroes would take away from the development of Zelda U. It's even more true in the QOL scenario, but there are entirely different teams working on the games you want and QOL, and in this scenario, entirely different departments. The NX is being worked on exactly the same with or without QOL.
@HollywoodHogan Iwata was terminally ill and even the finished product wouldn't have saved him at that point when medical science couldn't even do it. If anyone truly believes there is a connection, they are honestly very ****ing stupid. This isn't a cure to illness. It tracks your quality of living (hence the name) and tells you how well/poorly your habits are (sleeping, exercise, eating, etc. I imagine). It would be up to the person to change that anyway, not the machine. This wouldn't have predicted Iwata's cancer.
@jakysnakydx Half of their portfolio consists of Castlevania games, only one of which was good, while the rest of their portfolio actually sucks. These guys are one of the last "big name" studios you want working on the Metroid franchise.
Bravo, Nintendo. I wouldn't trust these guys to even come near the Metroid franchise. Only the first Lords of Shadow was good, the other two were awful. I can guarantee you Federation Force, from a beloved and proven developer like Next Level Games, would be infinitely better than a "true" Metroid game with Samus that's developed by these guys. No doubt in my mind, whatsoever. Anyone saying otherwise is truly blinded with hate at Federation Force because it's not what they want it to be, who develops the game makes all the difference in the world and those two studios are on the opposite ends of the spectrum.
As long as I get my Wii version, I'm happy. I'm excited for this. Just picked NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS as well, so I'll be playing some Naka games throughout the wait anyway.
@FragRed Agreed. Unless they prove they can bring back franchises like Shining (in NA), Panzer Dragoon, NiGHTS, and revitalize Sonic, they shouldn't even consider entering the hardware market again.

Re: The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS Model is Coming to North America
WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA still getting an XL. They're just better
Re: Review: Devil's Third (Wii U)
@C-Olimar I can see that with a limited edition product or something in incredibly high demand, but why with something as unknown, and that has had nothing but negative leaks for the longest time now, as Devil's Third? There's literally no benefit to it. And the review itself makes it pretty clear it's not a good game, I don't think you need to score to crack this review.
If it makes you feel better, they have put up a review roundup, and the results are godawful.
Re: Review: Devil's Third (Wii U)
@C-Olimar Um, those people had even less of an idea whether it was good or not when they pre-ordered it...
Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.
Didn't vote for him, but was never against him. He's so different from the other characters (and from many of the popular ones being voted on), that it's a great change of pace. Excited.
Re: Analysts Suggest That Nintendo's Quality Of Life Initiative Has Been "Put On The Back Burner"
Re: Analysts Suggest That Nintendo's Quality Of Life Initiative Has Been "Put On The Back Burner"
Re: Analysts Suggest That Nintendo's Quality Of Life Initiative Has Been "Put On The Back Burner"
Re: Exclusive: MercurySteam Has Been Working On A Metroid Prototype For Wii U And 3DS
@jakysnakydx Half of their portfolio consists of Castlevania games, only one of which was good, while the rest of their portfolio actually sucks. These guys are one of the last "big name" studios you want working on the Metroid franchise.
Re: Exclusive: MercurySteam Has Been Working On A Metroid Prototype For Wii U And 3DS
Re: NIS America Confirms Rodea the Sky Soldier Delay
As long as I get my Wii version, I'm happy. I'm excited for this. Just picked NiGHTS and Christmas NiGHTS as well, so I'll be playing some Naka games throughout the wait anyway.
Re: Sega Sorry That It "Betrayed" Fans, Hopes To Win You Back With A New Game Announcement This September
@FragRed Agreed. Unless they prove they can bring back franchises like Shining (in NA), Panzer Dragoon, NiGHTS, and revitalize Sonic, they shouldn't even consider entering the hardware market again.
