Re: Hardware Review: GB Operator Lets You Switch Between Game Boy And PC With Ease

NotSoCryptic

@foodmetaphors It's been pretty good so far. Allowing me to play my Castlevania games on the go and resume them on PC. Software is still pretty beta so waiting is good. Most of my complaints though are more related to rendering than anything else. It just worries about rendering to the window with presets. So no configuration, no scan line options, very bare bones compared to emulators. However if you desire the ability to go back and forth, I can't think of a better wya of going about it. Even the Crap tastic GameBoy Player isn't exactly at the same level of accuracy and polish of this device.

NotSoCryptic

Yes. Let the Latino person who is so out of touch with his community that he uses Latinx un-ironically to address them with a spelling that 99.9% find offensive. Hey nothing stopping us from appropriating another culture's language right? America's Elite, too busy telling everyone else how to live their lives because they know better. F off John Leguizamo.

As far as his ability to make this movie work "Script Wise", leave and never come back. Seriously. You're writing credits are funnier than that craptastic show you had back in the 90's.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

NotSoCryptic

Look as long as Vanquish 2 get's picked up by Sony and funded by them. I'm ok with this. Could careless about Bayonetta. I have so many copies of that game and its sequel fall in my lap for free, its almost like they want people to play their game and continuously fail to make time for it lol.

Look if you're a fan, then you likely have a switch already. I get that it sucks that its running hardware that greatly reduces its ability to be fully realized. On the other hand, better to get the game rather than not at all. I commend Nintendo for committing the funds to it. Lots of great games have been funded in this way like Street Fighter V. Though Capcom was a bit smarter than Platinum games in negotiating a PC release at least.

Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons

NotSoCryptic

My question is will N64 Accessories work with the N64 controller for Switch?

Seems odd to have the port there for an expansion pack like say rumble in an age where having rumble pre-built into the unit seems more logical. We also have Memory cards and GB Cartridge adapters. I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Just a curious thought. Would be cool if it could choose between legacy and built in rumble. Details would be nice.

Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis 'Expansion Pack' Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October

NotSoCryptic

@BanjoPickles
My Wii and Wii U still work. I still use my Wii U today, it has become my Zelda Console. It hasn't cost me a years worth of fees to keep playing them. To be honest with you, I'd have preferred an upgrade path for those games to be brought to switch. I own them. We had one for Wii U. What happened?

If it wasn't for the fact that the Switch is portable I'd happily continue to just play them on my Wii U without a care. That isn't the case. Same with my 3DS, still in working order.

I get what you're saying, one day these devices will stop working, but I have an NES from 1986 with a copy of Zelda that still plays just fine. (literally booted it up for this response just to be sure). Repairing those devices hasn't been too terribly hard either. I just recapped an Xbox and PS1 for a friend of mine. 15 minutes worth of work. I won't get into the number of GBA's, DS's, and 3DS's have repaired over the years.

So I don't see the longevity of the hardware to be a legit reason why we shouldn't continue to care about having full ownership.

Don't get me wrong if you're going through the entire NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA, etc catelog, its a steal. Most of us are not. I have maybe 3 NES games I play. I have 25 SNES games give or take on my Wii U that I routinely come back to that I got on sale or through Nintendo's own rewards program on Wii U. I don't have any N64 games digitally. Mostly because there are better versions of the Zelda titles on 3DS and Killer Instinct has never been digital. N64 games imo aren't really all that great. Oh wait I do have a paper mario title. However I'm sure those with a desire to have a large enough collection would like something more long term than a digital service that'll go extinct one day. NIntendo could vanish tomorrow and I'd at least still have my games and hardware till they died. In which case I'd fall back on roms after that point.

Personally I wish Nintendo would provide us with options. As I said I only need a small handful of titles. I don't subscribe to Nintendo Online because I do all my online gaming on PC and PS4/5. I make it a rule to only have one of these obnoxious services.

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

NotSoCryptic

@Snatcher I imagine we have a lot in common. I don't know how my country got this bad that we have to demonize each other and let others drive us apart. Get back to what's important.... well important in a thread about a Movie about a Nintendo Game anyway lol. Hopefully this thing does not suck. I'd like it to pave the way for a good Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade film.

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

NotSoCryptic

@Snatcher I'm saying that casting stones from glass houses makes for very poor neighbors. Those who have a tendency to persecute others for their beliefs is a fascist and likely needs to be punched in the face.

So let's be perfectly clear here, it doesn't matter what his views are as you have no right, nor the authority to judge him because he believes differently than you. So long as he isn't going out of his way to make your life miserable, you should mind your own damn business.

I do not agree with everything he says, but he hasn't given me any indication that I should string him up for simply expressing himself or following his heart. As a society we have no right to judge him so long as he has not violated the law.

He plays some great roles. Demonstrated great content of character, and has supported a few charities publicly. Then we have a hand full of people who wnat to conflate one action or belief to demonize the man as a monster. How does that make any sense. The answer is it doesn't. Makes those who feel the y have a right to judge such a person monsters and they should hate themselves for being such dedicated A**holes.

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

@Rika_Yoshitake I think he's great and I'm an Athiest. Respect for being based enough to live his life and live "his truth" as the nitwit Privileged First World Idiots like to say.

I'm excited to see what he comes up with. I just hope he can find a nice balance of what has come before. If you get down to it, I don't think most people could sit in a room with Mario and have a conversation with the video game version of the character without wanting to claw their ears off. So I'm sure what ever he comes up with will be fine.

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

NotSoCryptic

Willing to give Chris Pratt the benefit of the doubt. I don't see him as mario, I can't see him doing the voice, but if he says he is working hard at it. I can put 3 Decades of various Mario Actors behind me. Including the defacto mario I hear inside my head that was put there by Nintendo as far back as Mario 64. Then I'll give this actor who isn't a total tool in hollywood a chance.

The rest of them.... I got a bone to pick.

Re: This Reimagined GameCube Controller Offers Wireless Play, Pre-Orders Open Now

NotSoCryptic

@RupeeClock At that point you can just get a PS2 adapter. Button layout is pretty unique and there are a few games that put that layout on screen. So translating to a diamond from fan layout is not exactly ideal. Analog stick placement doesn't require that much mental gymnastics. Honestly for GC games I prefer the GC layout, its what the game was designed for and how it understands travel distance of thumb.

Re: The 'Thicc Boi SP' GBA Mod Offers Bluetooth Audio, Better Stamina And Wireless Charging

NotSoCryptic

@BEEFHAMMA check ebay for all of the models. The price is leveling out and up across the board. The ips and TV kit mods are breathing new life into the gba. Prior to the mods the kits, were so coming down in price. Hell even broken gba have gone for way more than 50 dollars at one point with scalped shipping prices. I fix these things for fun and resell. Which had lead to people offering me cash for mods of clean kits.

Look I get it. The 101 was the best display available. However in 2021 mods have gotten so good that you can get pixel perfect duplication and brighter displays. I have a few 101s, my personal gba I have switched the displays out. My preferred model isn't even the sp. The new modded displays are that much better. I now have a wireless charging gba with a custom shell, Bluetooth audio, and a nicely lit color accurate ips display.

Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down

NotSoCryptic

@Gwynbleidd at the moment right now people aren't downloading amr2 and didn't grab amr2 with the belief that it was an actual metroid. I think in 10 years someone will try to pass the work off as such in repro carts and other shady devices. Those people will get conned as the game is further rebranded as such.

Don't get me wrong amr2 is good and there is no better game to get conned into buying. It does set some wacky expectations. I've seen it with other repro cart knock offs that aren't part of the company profile. There was a used games store down here in Florida who was selling a Zelda remake as official and called it a rare beta cartridge. They were putting it out for 250. Even when they did sell it they'd just make another one. I was not happy about this as they almost conned someone right in front of me to buy it after some haggling, before I stepped in and got kicked out of the store. Not sad to see them go out of business.

Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down

NotSoCryptic

@Gwynbleidd In a way yes they are damaging Nintendo:

People who don't know any better end up getting these on repro cartridges or other software packages thinking this is a Metroid game. Hard to believe, but there are some pretty stupid people out there who think AM2R was an actual Nintendo game. This game in particularly appears to have a specific Aiming mechanic not feature in ANY metroid game and looks like it would ahve been a good fit for the DS series of handhelds. However if you leave this game with the expectation that all metroid games are like Prime 2D that are 2D that could set an expectation for a series that never featured those mechanics.

Basically the reputation and lore of the series becomes a representation of Nintendo's work that they have not approved of and are being forced to address.

While more in the know fans like people you'd find here know better and know what to expect, it can be problematic. Especially if someone starts farming out these images as another project that is official. "New 2D Metroid game in the works", throws video together on youtube, creates a new title image. Next thing you know it Nintendo is being bombarded by people thinking there was a new Metroid game leaked to the public. That too can be a drain on resources.

Let these guys did some interesting work and I wouldn't call them criminals. But they are kind of stupid for releasing a new game design with some excellent talent into some very well conceived fights as a product they themselves couldn't market. It's a missed opportunity for them to release their own game and franchise. Not that there is a shortage of Metroidvania titles out there these days, but there is a shortage of games that capture the feel and lore of Metroid. As much as I enjoy games like Axiom Verge, Iconoclasts, and many others, I would very much like to see something closer to what actual metroid offers without having to wait 6 to 10 years between metroid releases.

Re: Blizzard Outlines Plans To Rename Popular Overwatch Character

I pointless and useless gesture. This name no longer belongs to this person, it belongs to the character. No one is going to remember that McCree is named after a developer who's behavior was guilty until proven innocent and resolved outside of the public eye. Most OW gamers will likely have no idea and have had no idea that McCree was ever named after anyone at blizzard.

Re: Switch Console Sales Hit 89 Million, Has Now Outsold PS3 And Xbox 360

NotSoCryptic

@westman98
You won't find that data online. You can take this for what its worth, but we can just file that information under me knowing more than most people given the side of the developer line I sit on. It's not a reliable source. Honestly if you knew how often these leaks get bad data even when they are legit, you'd probably would stop listening to them.

I also wouldn't put a hamper on year one sales so quickly. Ya we've seen some fast take off tapper off, but the PlayStation brand really hasn't had that issue if they have 10 month supply problem and are showing record sales. Pretty safe to say they are on a damn good trajectory right now. They have the IP to help sustain that demand into 2022. So much so that it has scared them into releasing their PS5 games with downgraded versions for PS4. Saying the PS5 won't be a success is like assuming the Wii U was going to be one based purely on the Wii. I've never been wrong about calling a console generations outcome in over 30 years. I think I got this licked. Didn't take a genius to know the switch would take off the way it would. I was one of the few at my studio who said we would end up porting our incredibly taxing game to it before we launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC, then was laughed at over it. Only to be proven right 6 months later and releasing the game on the Switch 6 months later than the other consoles. As I stated above, take that for what its worth. this is the internet after all. I could be a 10 year old drinking Yoohoo getting my kicks off of talking to kids on a comment section.

Over all we need to keep an eye on the Steamdeck, it's even a bit cloudy for me to see what's going to happen with it. Valves history is about as shaky as googles in supporting its extra tech endeavors. Though we did get Half Life Alyx and in a way Steam Link lives on in android devices, and their controller oddly still gets support from them. In this case a lot of thought has gone into the Steamdeck. It'll be the second SoC device to use RNDA2 (first being the Series X and some of it exists in the PS5). This is a big deal. You won't see this in any other device offering higher performance numbers. The pay off will certainly be there. Valve is taking the gloves off. I think between the PS5 and this Device we'll see the entire market re-evaluate the Switch's dominance, with new hardware and consumers willingness to give their money to others looking to expand that market. Not every Switch owner is a devout Nintendo fan anymore every PlayStation or Xbox owner is of their platforms. They'll go where the games are, and give their money to who ever will give them the best experience, what that means will very on the subject that is paying for it.

"We already know from leaked queue numbers that Valve plans to ship <150,000 SteamDecks from its December launch until Q3 2022. A Switch competitor this is not."

The leak is incorrect. You can file that as an insider source for that one.

"To be clear, this is in reference to the UK, not to all of Europe. The Switch is the best-selling platform in Europe in 2021 thus far."

Thank you for the correction. However this could be the indication of a trend. Especially with how well the PS5 is doing and only manufacturing being their biggest issue. Currently holding steady as the fastest unit-selling system in US history. They'll catch up to the switch.

Re: Switch Console Sales Hit 89 Million, Has Now Outsold PS3 And Xbox 360

NotSoCryptic

@johnvboy I'm not really addressing the Successor here. The implication is that the Steamdeck will be the catalyst that hastens the release of a "Switch 2".

Not sure which response I made this in, but the price of those kickstarter projects is quite prohibitive by comparison to the Steamdeck and neither has a tailored OS for their hardware. This is very important to the success and capability of the machine. Speaking as someone who has fulled with such machines. Not to mention the time and quality put in by first part. Which Valve can very much be considered at this point. They have experience with making consoles and console hardware. So while I have no doubt that a 1000 dollar piece of portable hardware will be a nice component to have on my shelf, I'm still hesitant to the build quality of the product. Products that are very much Windows 10 dependent. I'm very familiar with both of those projects and spent a lot of time considering "do I really want to spend this kind of money on a portable PC to play my older PC games".

Another possibility to consider is that these kickstarter projects result in the Steamdeck program being expanded to 3rd parties. You could be seeing second generations of those products after the Kickstarter rewards are distributed that are designed to take better advantage of the latest version of Steam OS. Either way the Steamdeck wins. I don't see these as detractors, but unknowning allies that will likely want to capitalize on this new market of dockable portables. I'm going with the Steamdeck simply because I feel the hardware itself will be more matured and better oriented and cheaper.

Also incase you're splitting hairs here, yes I'm aware they are Indigogo campaigns, I use kickstarter as a catch all. They still require some kind of crowd funding in order to be successful. I believe the ONE XPLAYER initially had a Kickstarter. You also linked the same video twice, but don't worry I know which hardware you're referring too.

Overall I'm not impressed with the quality of the products and don't have much faith in the engineering teams behind them. A lot of the PC community for all the power these machines have, come with a lot of concerns. 1000+ for a piece of hardware that will get lost in a drawer because no one support the hardware beyond initial release. My Steamlinks and other steam devices still get updates. The Steam controller as much as I hated it, still had some degree of build quality to it. It felt near first party unlike a lot of these crowd funded projects like The All Controller which neglected to send me my dongle and respond to my requests for the remainder of order. So basically a controller that can't work as advertised and has basically been relegated to a controller for my phone.... no idea where it is now.

Re: Switch Console Sales Hit 89 Million, Has Now Outsold PS3 And Xbox 360

NotSoCryptic

@johnvboy based on the pre-orders numbers and how fast it sold out, if have to disagree with you on it being niche. These PC gamers have an entire library spanning decades and a huge back log thanks to steam sales. Its true that the lower performance exists, but if I can continue playing my pc save of the Witcher 3 on a plane with better quality than the switch can muster, among countless other games, its going to open some doors to leave my switch behind. It costs just 50 dollars more. A point you make by addressing the higher end 1000 dollar luxury hardware. None of which is designed around steam os. That 2 decade old collection includes titles like FF1-15, a couple of tales games, legend of heroes series including trails in the sky which is not on switch. That isn't even getting into less legal avenues for playing Nintendo games on steamdeck. There is already a strong switch emulator. No need for a crappy library of handpicked curiated games when you can have anything.

Additionally many pc gamers do own a switch. It is part of their huge audience. I think for the exclusives sure, but seeing the steamdeck might cause them to reconsider using a switch in favor of a better version of doom eternal on the go.

I think you're not giving the steamdeck enough credit. This isn't some random kickstarter project. It's a contender in the game spaces real attempt at actually releasing hardware. We know ms will never release another portable. Sony has turned a blind eye even if they have what it takes to build a portable ps4 at this point. They just don't have the focus or need to. Especially with the way the ps5 is crushing switch in a few regions. I believe in Europe it sold more than the switch and Xbox combined last month. This usually indicates a willingness to move past 5 year old hardware. Steamdeck certainly is that. Steamdeck isn't just a PC, its a PC meant to behave like a switch.

Re: Switch OLED Upgrades Reportedly Cost Nintendo "Around $10 More Per Unit"

NotSoCryptic

@WhiteUmbrella hardly optimistic. They haven't done anything in the last 4 years that they haven't done under the prior 2 Nintendo presidents. They leave the price high when the market is cornered and drop the price when there is a slump. They phase out old hardware and let the new hardware assume its price point. They did it under the portable market for 3 decades. The wii barely saw price drops during its life. Game prices being fixed at full price for 3 to 4 years till they became greatest hits or what ever they call them under Nintendo has been the practice for as long as Nintendo has been around.

I'm guessing you're mistaking retailer generosity and Nintendo having competition for generosity. However their m.o. has never been one to drop the price of something as soon as they start making a profit on it. They've always been a greedy company. From the moment they were sued for squeezing out competition in the 80s by pulling support for any company that started carrying sega to the swapping of hardware in at the old price point starting with the gbc to the Nintendo switch. This isn't a new strategy, they know that selling at 350 will not hold. Mostly due to a change in the availability of certain games due to limited hardware and other external factors. Nintendo will start to loose ground as sony and ms start having games that can't be downgraded easily enough to guarantee a profit and ms bought out their biggest supporter of the system. PCs are already seeing pre-built portable units in the switches for factor. While they are a good 600 dollars more, 3 iterations will quickly put an end to that. Who wants to play overwatch on switch at barely 30fps in lower quality when they can play on pc the same way at a guaranteed 60 in portable mode. Its already happening.

Point being Nintendo doesn't exist in a bubble, eventually their strategy has a breaking point that allows for shifting of gears. One of those strategies has always been to pivot hardware changes on the same price point to trick the consumer into an artificial price drop. They just call this thing the oled model for crying out loud, they have no intent of keeping the lid system around, this product is meant to replace it.

Re: Switch OLED Upgrades Reportedly Cost Nintendo "Around $10 More Per Unit"

NotSoCryptic

@sixrings
$228.60 US.

Only reason it costs 350 for the OLED, is because Nintendo wants to clear out the old unit and replace it with the new one next year. Don't expect the LCD switch to stick around. That way when they drop the price to 300 for the OLED people will think Nintendo is finally dropping the price on the switch etc. Welcome to the psychological warfare that is marketing.

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?

NotSoCryptic

I feel like this is just a precursor model. Like they planned to do this even if there was a pro. The Switch itself is flawed and needed a revision, it needed a base model refresh. I will not be surprised if by this time next year there will no longer be a Switch SKU and just the OLED SKU remained. We might see a revision of the Switch Mini as well. Just to bring all three units in line with the OLED standard. The OLED unit will slip to 300. So we'll see revision 1 heavily discounted as they try to clear out inventory and they'll lock the oled model at 300.

Switch Pro will come a little after that point with either a 350 or 400 dollar price point. I say 350 because I have expect the oled model to drop in price by then as well.

Re: Overwatch 2 Is Still Coming To Switch, But Blizzard Will Have To Make "Some Compromises"

NotSoCryptic

@WallyWest It's 2021, the switch has been around for 4 years now. The PS4 has been around for nearly 6 years. There are tablets and phones that cost less than 500 dollars that can run PS4 games. Many of them able to run circles around the Switch in Frame Rate and Resolution. I think we're well past the point of this being a valid argument. These devices are not selling at a loss either. Only option left for Nintendo is to release a new system and stop selling its customers dated hardware at a premium. When a 125 dollar tablet runs Bloodstained better than the Switch, its time to give it up and try again. They've had a lot of success with the switch and a hardware upgrade would bring a new audience just as quickly. Overwatch 2 would be a good center piece. The excuse that this is a handled just doesn't fly anymore. Switch was woefully under powered at launch, nvidia was already working on SoC with tegra tech already that surpassed the tegra 2. Many would have gleefully purchased a switch at 400 dollars if it meant getting closer to PS4 spec at launch. We've paid for it dearly over the years. These games are of lower quality and often times you're expected to pay the same price or more. Good example of this is Doom Eternal, selling at 60 dollars. The game is janky on switch and doesn't look as good, but my PS5 just got a free upgrade for that same 60 dollar PS4 copy I purchased, both run and look better, and now I have ray tracing and other updates to the game to embrace. So not only did hte PS4 give me better value, it gained value with time. That's not a good look for Switch.

I think the switch has a couple of years left for unique titles made by Nintendo, but third parties should start and will start looking to pull out. That isn't including the ones that never signed up in the first place.

Portability can only offset the cost in a justifiable way for so long before you find yourself playing GBC versions of PS2 games.

Re: Random: Brie Larson Says She's More Than Happy To Be In An Animal Crossing Movie

NotSoCryptic

Ummm OK. Nevermind that an animal crossing movie would be dumb move on any studios part. Especially if live action. I feel like Nintendo fans have better sense than to want her associated with their favorite past time and Nintendo isn't interested in the brand of attention she'd bring to their products. Time she moved on from her wish list and consider how she keeps shooting her reputation and career in the foot. That isn't even getting into her abilities as an actress.
