Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

Mr_Wolf12000

@Shoofighter I agree about the DLC, but that would be something a company should be screaming with a price hike of this magnitude.

One thing I am thinking; and is something that should have explicitly been communicated if true; is that Nintendo counts on families in particular, but a lot of users taking advantage of the game sharing. That would be certainly more justifiable. Hell, I would be promoting it as "Buy MKW and you can play with up to 3 friends around the world on a single cart! You and your family can play local coop from one cart for one great price!". Even then its only good for online and doesnt mean you have 3 full single player experiences but still, something.

when you leave that to consumer inference, which I have yet to see, it seems like the message is "80 bucks deal with it" instead of "We have increased prices, but we feel like the value of sharing your games for this price justifies our policy" and I feel like I am being very forgiving here.

In Canada the base system is 630 dollars. Thats higher than I was willing to pay for day one.

The game prices on the other hand mean MKW will be 100 dollars here and thats fing ridiculous.

Also, the battery life doesnt look particularly good; So now I am thinking I will wait for a revision with an improved battery like I did with S1

These issues in particular have taken my excitement from "Take my money day 1!" on 4/1 to "meh, I will wait I guess" on 4/2

Re: Star Fox-Inspired Space Shooter 'FUR Squadron' Is Getting A Switch 2 Sequel This Year

@ChromaticDracula Im with you, had no idea about this, just bought it. Going to have to check out that Rogue Flight too...

Gaming is a bit of a double edged sword in this regard. On one hand, it is easier than ever for a studio of any size to get their game out on any platform.

On the other, it is seemingly impossible to keep up with everything that comes out, let alone play it all.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

Mr_Wolf12000

I think it comes down to what does the word mean to you? at this point a 25 year old who grew up with the Wii isn't wrong if he thinks THAT is retro. Does it refer to a specific period of gaming? A style of game or aesthetic? X amount of years backwards in your life?

Thanks to the co-opting of the term through pop culture and marketing for the last decade plus that term has always had some connotation of 80s and 90s look, feel and aesthetic; and that seems to be what is generally considered retro among the gamers I associate with (Aged late 20s to mid 50s). I am 42 and while I dont really use the term myself, when I hear it I think of NES-N64. My brain doesn't compute Ps2 and beyond "retro" but 2000 was almost 25 years ago [JFC].

Time is a crazy thing. And how we process it changes as we age. NES to SNES felt like an eternity when I was a kid. My XSX feels new still but Series X and Ps5 are in their fourth year already. Switch is 25 percent through its 8th(!!!!!) year. Xbox One/Ps4 are over a decade old and Xbox 360 is 20 next year; So the term is going to be in perpetual flux. I think you'll see a gaggle of new minds looking back on the retro brilliance of Bioshock and Gears of War in the next few years. If you're in your early 20s now, 2007 was an eternity ago.

Re: Taito Milestones 3 Coming Winter 2024, First Batch Of Games Revealed

Mr_Wolf12000

@BHPM i had not considered that; hopefully its not spite, those are excellent games and why would any company see the price paid online for 30 year old carts and not want some of that cheese.

But then again The Disney Afternoon Collection is STILL not on the Switch, so Im not holding my breath regardless of the reason, but it sure would be nice

In the meantime we have alternate means to play such things

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Famicom, The NES' Japanese Sibling, Is 40 Years Old

Mr_Wolf12000

First time I saw an NES in person was at my Uncle's apartment. it was 1986 and had maybe about 5 minutes to play. By summer 87 I had a good friend from school with a Dad who loved Nintendo (and we had a pretty sweet video store nearby to rent from) and I was often invited to play with them. It was in his basement I fell in love with my beloved Mega Man and have vivid memories of Contra, Castlevania, Karnov, Mario 2, Tiger Heli, Karate Kid, Predator and so much more.

My family got ours summer of 89 and it was Mega Man 2 that turned me from a kid who loved Nintendo to a lifelong gamer.

Everyone's first system is special; whether it was Atari 2600 or PS5. Im grateful the NES was mine. Just beyond the primordial Atari and past the 83 crash; an exciting new spectrum in the cultural zeitgeist. Made me really appreciate the advances of the 90s to the comparative insanity of modern games.

Im still on a neverending path as a gamer, and I couldnt be more thankful for the Famicom's existence as the foundation for great memories with the NES as a kid and a lifelong love of video games.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

Mr_Wolf12000

I am pretty stoked for Fist of the North Star Fitness Boxing.

And since the options for voting are kind of specific, it was alright, any news on MP4 would have been nice and I dont expect new Mario/DK but that would be pretty sweet if something came like Mario 64 on the Odyssey engine, let alone SMO2. A quality DKC game would please me greatly but I would think we would have at least heard some rumors preceding such games.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game?

Mr_Wolf12000

I would guess that Turtles in Time and Shredder's Revenge and the OG NES will be 1, 2 and 3. Regardless I am quite intrigued to see what the NL Community thinks.

The GCN TMNT games were a lot of fun to play 4 player couch co-op; it will be interesting to see where they shake out

Re: Talking Point: How Were You Introduced To Metroid?

Mr_Wolf12000

I definitely remember the Metroid NES commercial making an impression on my 80s cartoon addled 6 and 7 year old brain... and then Mother Brain from Captain N gave me some more familiarity but I dont think I would have played it til 1990 on a couple of rentals. I remember enjoying it but not having as much fun as other titles. I didnt come to appreciate this one fully til I was an adult.

Super Metroid though; I fell in love with that game. It got to the point id rent it once a month to beat the damn thing. An all time favorite to be sure.
