So basically Sony's response says, "Even if you have a PS4, your complaints about Switch aren't voices of the 'PlayStation Community' and the PlayStation community has no problems playing together. If you don't have a PS4 then get one so you can play with your PS4 friends because they can't play with you on switch, they are a part of the PlayStation Community."
Open world, but multi dimensional. Like a time travel story. Something to bridge the gap between BOTW and everything that came before. A story that makes Hyrule whole once again. An opportunity to make like travel into OOT, and WW and TP and somehow bend the story and change the future.
@DragonEleven if they made it a little smaller and Incorporated the joycons into the device they could drop all the batteries and wireless radios that make that work. They could also drop the TV dock for that model. They could advertise it as a kid model.
@StuTwo I imagine they will take the DS approach.. A 2DS that is kid friendly, that is your single smaller model with no detachable joy cons. They will also go with the XL model approach with the same concept. Also I see them releasing a Switch TV model that doesn't have a screen at all eventually.
@DragonEleven 3DS launched at the same price as the Switch! The portable was actually not recommended for children under 7. Later they dropped the price, and eventually came out with the less expensive 2DS model for kids. So I expect Nintendo will take that approach in a few years when they can bring the cost of hardware down, and bring a new Pro or XL version out to keep a higher end model on the market like they did with the DS lines.
Nintendo has always had issues with first party development for 2 systems. This always meant one console or portable had games getting to market sooner. This caused a serious lack of first party titles for Wii U. By the time Zelda came out it also came out on the switch. In that time they released multiple Zelda titles in the 3DS, as well as many other First party titles. Point is now they don't have to split up internal development so they have more resources to dedicate to a single console and pump out more first party titles.
Nintendo just shouldn't be afraid to still make traditional portable style games for switch. I'd still play a Link to the past style title while waiting for the next main Zelda title, that was kind of the point with 3DS for me, playing games while waiting for the next main entry.
I hope they don't shoot for a 3DS successor, but keep the hybrid style and iterate. Make this the definitive Nintendo console, and start making souped up versions in a couple years that have a 1080P screen and play portable games at TV graphics levels, and create 720P versions that have more efficient chips and a battery that goes for days, and then when Switch 2 comes out, it is backwards compatible, and the old switch forward compatible much like traditional tablets... Eventually sporting chips that rival Xbox One and PS4.
By then they still won't be competing with PRO or X graphics. The GameCube was the last system Nintendo tried to compete in a power level, and they have since dropped the now you're playing with power mantra. Plus you have to consider that the Wii U failed, so Nintendo is leveraging this hybrid console to get back into the console side with the ultimate realization that they are actually competing with Apple, Samsung and Amazon more than Microsoft or Sony. It doesn't make sense to launch another portable when they have a tablet.
I was hoping BOTW would let you travel to the past, or that this would have a dark world, or some twist to it like that. That's one of the things since link to the past that I always loved. Ocarina had time travel, link to the past had the sacred realm, wind waker had Hyrule under the sea, and skyward sword....well it tried. Anyway, while I loved BOTW, and it's a huge awesome world, I didn't miss the structure of the past games as much as the feeling that there is more to it than what you see. I don't mean this critically, I think it was a fine game. I just like that kind of game or element. One of the reasons I loved Chrono trigger. And who wouldn't love to see Hyrule in its prime, or is ancient past... Maybe if they do a majora style game with this engine they could pull a creative twist.
32GB is storage not System Memory. I doubt system memory is 32GB. I would guess it's really between 4 and 8 GB....I mean PS4 AND Xbox One have 8GB. That being said, Wii U had 2GB, and these Switch games that come on cartridges might not need to store so much in memory and might read off the card for a lot of data. Faster than Blu ray discs I would imagine.
If Ninty is smart, they will be prepping the big guns and have games ready for launch. Massive 3rd party support = x86 architecture. And whatever Ninty's Gimmick feature is, don't let it get in the way of third party support. Big Guns means Mario Kart 9 at launch, maybe a legit Pokemon console title, Metroid Prime 4 at launch. Mario Galaxy 3 at launch. Also Show titles coming in the year that shows people won't have to wait like they did wit the Wii U.
Also, Get your act together and just put all your virtual console games out there. ..I mean what is the hold up?
In a time when Nintendo is struggling I don't understand this move at all. I got a DSi after I got a DS and was a bit disappointed. I never really saw the advantage. I'm not going to buy a new 3DS for a confusing experience again. Also, it isn't 3DSi, it's just a "new" 3DS? This is just weird. Are they coming out with a New Wii U tomorrow that I can play Zelda Wii U on? Totally weird moves here Ninty.
I feel like Nintendo does not want to take my money. They didn't announce Wii games coming to eShop, and specifically Metroid Prime trilogy would be a lovely way to say they wanted my money....just saying. I mean some gamecube games too maybe...come-on Ninty, get that eShop and Virtual Console overflowing!
Amiibo Themsong by Me (Mii): It rolls downstairs in one or in pairs, and fun for a toss or throw, It's great for a game, and fun for a play, it ah-mii-bo; amiibo, amiibo, its small it's light it's plastic, amiibo, amiibo, its better than good it's fantastic.
Nintendo's next console will be a Tablet with traditional controls built in.
They will replace both the Wii U and 3DS in one swoop.
The tablet will come with a Chromecast-like adapter for the TV, and the "gamepad" will now be the console streaming to the TV.
Then Nintendo can compete on 3 fronts simultaneously: Tablet, Portable and Console.
Nintendo will not have to divide up their software divisions to create software for 2 machines anymore which will help their cycle times as well as give them more time to be creative with new IP.
I will sadly pass on it now. As soon as this was announced I worried it was a shameless spin off. Now its confirmed. Not my style of game, but would have played if official canon.
Sounds familiar sadly. "We believe that the Kinect is an integral part of the Xbox One."
Although, I like the gamepad, and the tech behind it is extraordinary, I feel like so many games have trouble making use of the gamepad and TV at the same time. It is great for singular experiences that focus on one or the other, and in the case of Pikmin, it's touch controls are unique. I think Zelda will use it for item selection and maybe even to keep the screen HUDless which would be great. Hmm...
It's time to release more VC titles for the Wii U, and re-introduce N64 games, and maybe even start puttin in Gamecube and Wii titles...I also think porting DS and 3DS titles has some merit considering the Wii U has a dual screen function.
Haters be hatin', This game looks amazing, and BTW, I don't care about delays, they always make Zelda good.
Honestly, the game looks good and the play is fun, I can't believe anyone wouldn't like to play this, Windwaker or Skyward Sword over this look...This looks like an even more stylized engine.
Nintendo is learning that Twilight Princess' more realistic engine didn't = more sales....Got to have an open mind. Nintendo is learning from these indies that this is indeed the time to stylize and not shoot for realism.
Honestly, in highly competitive matches online, good luck trying to always pull off this hopping maneuver, it works, but it does take skill not to screw up.
I think that Nintendo should play up how cool some of the multi-tasking features are on the Wii U. I didn't know until I got one that I could suspend my game, and browse the web on my Gamepad, then I could choose to share or not share the web in 1080P on my TV, or close the curtain and browse local....or browse for something to show people, and then play a video and then open the curtains...that is too cool....then go back to my game instantly.
I thought the Xbox One only had features like this. I can access my downloads, Miiverse, Friends lists etc without leaving my game.
@unrandomsam Even though Metroid doesn't feel like a Metroid game, it doesn't change the fact that they are really fun games, and exploring the ruins for stories of the ancient civilizations is fun too. Not traditional for Metroid, but an FPS that rivals most other FPS games in gameplay, form and storytelling. I can't remember the last time I played an FPS that encouraged me to explore vs just cattle driven from point a to b.
Going from Power On, to the gamepad lighting right up with a menu, to a very short wait to the game launching is excellent. This brings us back to a time with the Nintendo's of old, where you just pressed power and there was no load time.....almost.
@sleepinglion Yes, that is how it is advertised to work....that way if you are starting up from a controller for instance, you are not left hanging waiting for input on the gamepad.
So at E3 Nintendo says Zelda Wii U coming this fall....Hyrule Warriors coming this Summer....Metroid Trilogy HD coming this fall, Metroid for set for 1st quarter 2015, Yoshi Yarn coming this summer, Zelda OOT:MM HD set in December. Right?
Story-wise, I am hoping this is the game that ties OOT with WW, showing the story of how Hyrule became flooded under a great ocean.....Would love to play a game about that.....starts of in an OOT universe, expands to large open worlds around the world we know....tells a story of great wars and evil, and a sacrifice of the kingdom under a great ocean as well as transforming the Zora race into a flying race to ensure no one would wander into the old kingdom....
Honestly, the Wii U Gamepad is cool and all, but why shoehorn it into every game-type? It's nice to have different gameplay options for different types of games.

@dMo They can't allow Gamecube games because the disc drive can't accept the little discs. The Wii had a special slot drive designed to accept both.

@TheWPCTraveler Disagree, I've been playing Xbox 360 games on my Xbone aND they work great. Mass Effect actually sees some performance improvements.
