@holygeez03 It depends, if Pokémon drops next year I can definitely see a pure handheld-only Switch entering the market as soon as next year. Mostly because, Pokémon will sell systems but it can only help to have a cheaper SKU, and one that children can play with without completely busting it at that.
@StuTwo Pokémon is definitely a big factor, but it can only be unleashed on the world if a cheaper, more physically durable SKU drops with it. (Remember what the 2DS did to boost 3DS and Pokémon X/Y, and what Pokémon X/Y did to boost 3DS by itself)
The true power of the Switch and Pokémon shall be unleashed on the world when a $200 portable-only, kids-oriented Switch SKU blesses the world.
And if it also gets that Netflix and YouTube and Crunchyroll before that... Yeah, I'm pretty confident in the Switch's potential. Maybe not Wii-levels of confident but at least 3DS-levels of confident.
Pretty sure the devs decide whether or not to discount their games on Switch. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs were like "Meh, it's not worth it" before this update since you litterally had no way to find out if the game was on sale.
That section helps for exposure, but devs probably weren't warned much more than we were that this was coming, hence the lack of content.
@MsgBoardGamer Yeah, but if you're looking at FIFA and NBA 2K... We only got half a FIFA and an extremely broken version of NBA. So I really really want to see how Bethesda does on the platform.
@MsgBoardGamer I don't know man, we've never had portable Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein 2. That's why the Switch is in a weird spot. Nintendo will sell Switches to the Nintendo fanbase, Bethesda might just sell them for more hardcore players who just don't have much time to play at home anymore.
In a way, Switch also factors in the part where the gaming audience is becoming older. I started gaming back in the DS and Wii days and I had a lot of time back then to go through Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Now I'm a student, a TO and a traveller, so for someone like me the Switch with its handheld & tabletop capabilities is a blessing.
@maruse I think if you're good with the Joy-Con for the 3D games + Motion Controls in Splatoon and only want a D-pad for retro games, definitely go for either the Pokken Pro Pad if you're wired and want that full retro experience out of 2D platformers or 8BitDo's Pro series if you're wireless and also want a 3rd controller for your kids.
PS: I do not recommend letting your kids play with the Switch in portable BTW, that's why I hope they do a Switch Mini when Pokémon drops or else the Switches are gonna drop like crazy.
No seriously, it's a problem on a game by game basis. I'm fine with Zelda being a constant 30fps (For the most part) but playing Sonic in 30fps just feels... Off.
I mean, Sonic 1 ran at 60fps (Except in Europe, good thing I first experienced that one on an emulator)
I think the main problems with this is that they only cater to a very select group of consumers.
Most of these games have never been released in the West, so there's no nostalgia involved
The average, uninformed consumer will merely see in those arcade re-releases a way to make you pay again for Super Mario Bros./Punch Out, even though the NES & Arcade versions are vastly different from one another
The price of 8 € takes it out of the impulse buy category
And most of us can already run all of those through MAME on a PC, Wii, Raspberry Pi or even the SNES Classic.
So yeah it only caters to a specific subset of gamers, Nintendo erudites who want to know more and either don't want to go into sketchy legal territories or just want to play those on Switch for the portability and dual-Joy-Con aspect the console offers.
Which is probably like .01 % of the Switch userbase.
@Fuz Good question, I was scrolling the SM64Online files though and I'm not sure exactly where the models would be located. But Nintendo probably owns the N64 "file format" or code anyways, or something like that. Not sure how law works for that, since it's kinda related to legal problems regarding emulators.
On a side note, I really enjoyed the one on Wii that used the Balance Board too so hopefully they'd have options for both non-motion and motion control outlining the Joy-Con's superior performance compared to Wiimotes.
@jimi Depends on your point of view, at least you'd have access to the whole VC Library for $5 a month. Compared to having to buy all 30 games of the NES Classic lineup for $5 a piece.
I mean in the end every single ROM is on every single emulation website for free and runnable off a potato so it's just a matter of options. (Star Fox 2 will join that bunch a week before the SNES Mini is officially released, you can bet on it)
@BanjoPickles @iammikegaines Wait for Nintendo to rerelease all of those game and make you buy them individually again. I want a Netflix-like Virtual Console.
Also, that doesn't fix much because most of the guys who buy those mini systems do it for the box, not the contents (Besides Star Fox 2 obviously)
Personally, I couldn't preorder the SNES Mini, but not because things went wrong. I'm in Europe (Where things went pretty well and we have numbers) and I'm just moving to another country next month.
However, I will say that, while we do get in France at launch double the SNES Mini units compared to what we had in the whole of 2016 for the NES Mini, it is unbearable that we only get 1,500 units of Metroid: Samus Returns' Limited Run. FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY.
However from what I read about what happened in the US (And the fact you're not even getting that special edition Metroid)... I sympathize with you, faithful US Nintendo fans.
Well, there is IMO a better option on the market regarding everything D-pad-related on the Nintendo Switch.
It's actually the Pokken Controller. Sure it's not wireless like the 8bitdo but the 8bitdo is very finnicky when it comes to picking up the Switch. I'll take the convenience of a cable over the clunkiness of that Bluetooth connection any day.
The HORI Pad looks like a good multiplayer controller though. And a solid Switch PCB for use with arcade sticks.
I will say, Monster Hunter World not being on the Switch makes some kind of sense from a technical standpoint, although you do lose that big local coop part in the process of moving it to home consoles.
However, still to this day, I can't wrap my head over why both the Megaman Legacy Collection 2 and the Disney Afternoon collection are not coming to any Nintendo System, especially since Legacy Collection 1 sold twice as much on 3DS than on any other system.
I've got bad news for you Nyko: It seems like the Switch Voice Chat App doesn't work in Landscape mode, only portrait. Making the accessory absolutely useless...
I just tested with the limited version we have right now.

@AlexSora89 Fun fact, the Wii launched with Twilight Princess.
And Twilight Princess was a GameCube game.

@slaine If you want a Kodi app, you could ask the Kodi team. It'd still have to pass certification, but at least they'd know you want one.

@thesilverbrick TBH Hori is the only 3rd party controller maker I'm trusting right now. Them and Brooks.
Re: Review: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)
Xenoverse is not a Fighting game, it is a button masher.
But if you like DBZ, it's good fun.
Still waiting for FighterZ though. The real fighting game.

Re: Super Mario Kart on SNES Gets MSU1 Digital Audio Enhancement
I mean, don't most of these songs have a Mario Kart 8 version already? (Including some awesome fan remixes from Panman14 and JoshhMarshh)
That would probably better fit a cohesive theme. I'd probably do it myself though if I could.
@Omedru, do you have a way to do these yourself since you mentioned it with Secret of Mana?
Re: Review: Fatal Fury Special (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
