Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

Mathias_Wolfbrok

Well, the problem right now is not that the Virtual Console branding is not going to be a thing.

The problem is that the Online Service "Alternative" only has NES and is presented as "it will only ever have NES games". No SNES, GB, GBC, N64, GC, GBA or DS games whatsoever. It makes the future of retro gaming on Switch very uncertain right now.

It gets even weirder when you consider that they did get GameCube games running off of a Tegra, but keep that discovery only for the (inexistent) Chinese market... On the NVidia Shield.

Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@Geeks4Life Screw digital at one point! I like my cartridges!

But that's not even the point. Not everybody can spend 500 € PER YEAR in games just to get a 5 € discount! Plus the fact that all year 1 purchases are also heavily devalued, and that the program launched 1 year after the Switch, making all March 2017 games (So Zelda) unredeemable due to the unreasonably short expiry date.

This program is just lying somewhere between unreasonable and pure disrespectful. It's just about as usable as Brawl's netcode. Which also means it's probably also costing money to them to even maintain this service. They should have used that money in developing stuff that are actually usable, like solidifying the eShop, investing into cloud saves servers or even allowing us to turn our Switch Home Screen green!

Re: Hardware Review: The Analogue Super Nt Is The Ultimate Way To Play SNES Games In 2018

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@mordecai It depends. In Europe you can get away with getting an OG SNES at a used games store for 50 €. I know in the US retro gaming is infinitely more expensive than in, say, Japan or Europe for that matter.

And yeah, OSSC is nice on paper because it supports any console (At least ones with RGB support) I want to invest but I have a hard time finding one and I'm not 100% sure it does SCART

Re: Hardware Review: The Analogue Super Nt Is The Ultimate Way To Play SNES Games In 2018

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@GravyThief Yeah, "best" is always subjective.

But I do personally think it's probably the best way to play the games, but not necessarily to experience them. Plus a EU retro-gamer will tell you that despite NTSC hardware being superior, the PAL experience (AKA Slowed-down Sonic for instance) will always be what they've known and therefore there's a sentimental attachment to those versions.

Re: Switch's Second Year Will Be "Crucial" Says Nintendo President

Mathias_Wolfbrok

Get production going even faster, release the Switch in a dockless SKU, make Pokémon on Switch good, done. 40 million sales in 1 year. (In 2019 because I'm 99.9% sure Pokémon is a 2019 game and the Dockless SKU will come in 2019 as well when people will be fed up with buying Switches at 300 € with a dock every single time)

And maybe, just maybe that will motivate Netflix and Google and Blizzard and stuff to put their software on the machine...

Re: ARMS Keeps On Swinging Thanks To A Group Of Dedicated Fans

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@nab1 I mean, the problem is less so the true gimmicky stages like Ribbon Ring, Cinema Deux or [NAME REDACTED] and more so the fact that they appear in Ranked (Thank God they at least removed Snake Park) Gimmicky stages can be a lot of fun in a casual environment.

Hence why the community (Or at least the occidental community, that is not influenced by Nintendo) narrows the stage list to somewhere between 5 and 7 stages, just like in Smash Bros.

Re: ARMS Keeps On Swinging Thanks To A Group Of Dedicated Fans

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@NinjaAceTrainer Well if you're thinking that, you're being misguided.

The lifeblood of the game is its deep and intricate gameplay, its various modes and its very un-Nintendo-like online structure (Lobbies? Ranked Battles? Spectator Mode?)

More seriously, it's all mindgames and mixups and getting to read and outplay your opponent, learning how to punish accordingly, how to use the stage to your advantage... It is as deep a game as you want it to be, just like Smash Bros. or Tekken.

Re: Super Mario Maker Updates Are Now Live

Mathias_Wolfbrok

@thesilverbrick TBH if it weren't for the patch, I'm pretty sure that this game would litterally be dead now, because all of the levels posted were passing through Miiverse. Which means without the patch there would have been no levels no more, just like in Mario VS Donkey Kong Tipping Stars or Pushmo for instance
