Re: Soapbox: Video Game Injuries Are No Laughing Matter

MarcusIsCool

Good article. And that’s why I limit myself to 1-2 hours everyday in terms of gaming. No need to push it and I can game more in the long run. I’m almost 40 years old, and it seems I have no gaming related injuries.

But this reminds me of when I used to play street basketball in the 90s. So many slaps on the wrists, people trying to steal or block the basketball, stuff like that, I still have a right thumb injury that doesn’t really bother me....however if I clutch my hand, it will make a clicking sound. It’s the same with every hobby if you do it long enough....prepare to feel some side effects.

....I’m not gonna read what the New York Times said about video games....I will say however it depends upon how they projected video game playing. As some have mentioned....binge watching Netflix or Cable TV is a good thing, and playing an hour or two video games (which has good effects by some studies) is bad??

I guess I just listed a double standard right there.

But it just sounds like a case of the NYT taking itself too seriously.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Focus On Younger Players Is A Positive, Not A Negative

@Piyo 100 percent agreement. I got a gameboy in 1990 and played Tetris and Super Mario Land. There’s a lot that changed for example new games and stuff....but the concept is still very much the same. Hell the gameboy line was only retired in 2004 approximately.

Also I’m not too keen on these new games that offer poor gameplay. Give me anything Nintendo with good gameplay and I would appreciate it any day of the week.

@yayakon85 it’s complicated. I would say work activities depend where you are in life. Take for example playing the piano, which I took lessons in from 5-10 years old. Certainly I had certain “songs” I would play over and over again. Practice is the best medicine or something to that effect. Practice makes you better. Right?? So for starters you can play a song over and over and gain confidence. Then it’s about branching out. ( in my view at least).

Oh and @ChainChompBraden

I hope you have no hard feelings, it was just part of the conversation. Certainly I envy you, but that’s just because I want to be better in everything in life. Improve my skills etc. I apologize if anything said hurt you in the comments section. Good luck on your project. 🙂

@Silly_G I certainly understand the OCD in all of this. I’m pretty sure I’ve had some. I know how to program in C++ so I got this “crazy” idea once of making a full fledged fighting game on my own.

The prototype is there. But what I did not realize is that it takes way more than “programming skills” to have it succeed. I worked on it for almost
4 years then promptly burned out.

Point being is life is relatively short. I would think it’s much better to be well rounded in life. But to each his own. If that makes him happy that makes him happy and I suppose he has good skills in MM.

I’m in my very late 30s now and I think life is very complicated, and as I’ve said if we become as well rounded as we can be, we’d be much happier. 🙂
