Re: New Switch Models To Reportedly Benefit From Sharp's Energy Efficient IGZO Displays

@johnvboy it's not about the "power" race, exactly. it's about the race between relevance and irrelevance. if nintendo can put out an appealing, somewhat more powerful "switch pro" or "switch 2", that is backwards compatible and is playing more contemporary games, then i think more gamers will start looking at the switch as more than just a secondary console, but a more appealing, more relevant console, period.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of DOOM, DOOM II And DOOM 3

@Heavyarms55 i get that, but at the same time it does provide the kind of technical analysis that, let's admit, most game reviewers are no longer capable of—and perhaps shouldn't be focusing on in any case, unless the issues are glaring. but for tech nerds like myself, i love DF, and it's rare that what they say one way or another actually impacts my purchasing decisions. but i do like being an educated consumer.

Re: Pokémon Sword & Shield Are Being Developed With A Focus On Switch's Handheld Mode

let's go's lack of pro controller support really pissed me off—especially as that came out the same time my left joy-con started to drift. so not only was i obliged to use a controller that is objectively too small for my hands, but i was dealing with the prospect of laying out a substantial amount of money to potentially replace the joycon (air-spraying did reduce the problem, but didn't eliminate it).

i really hope this isn't the developer's way of saying that they're just going to continue to ignore nintendo's best controller. honestly it may put me off the title. the switch is a hybrid console for a reason. it's a shame that one of their best franchises deliberately kneecaps themselves.

Re: Video: Zelda And Mario Labo VR Support Points To A Switch Pro Console Idea

@Ludovsky nintendo isn't copying playstation and xbox's playbook here—they're going to iterate on the switch like a mobile phone...where yeah new iterations are rather constant. fortunately they have dynamic scaling resolution built into their whole hardware/software approach. the switch was a success because they didn't copy anyone—this is their opportunity to show everyone how old fashioned and slow microsoft and sony are.

Re: Senran Kagura Producer Leaves Marvelous After Frustrations Over Sexual Content Restrictions

@nessisonett moral puritanism, while long associated with right wing religious and social movements, has now become secularized and is just as often associated with left wing social justice thinking... which, in my opinion, is fine. media and storytelling in general is most resonant and relevant when it is at least reflective and respectful of the complex identities of their consumer base. that said, let capitalism be the deciding influence here. if people want something to exist, they should demand it and buy it, or ignore it if it doesn’t suit them.

Re: Talking Point: There's Room For A Switch 'Family' If Nintendo Nails The Messaging

MARATXXX

i'm not sure a lot of the people commenting here realize this, but nintendo is in a special position here—with a more powerful switch, capable of playing more contemporary titles, they could effectively turn the conversation away from the ps5 or xbox two. the lack of mobile hardware from the competition has dramatically killed the energy around the playstation and xbox in the last year. the fact that everyone else is turning to streaming on mobile platforms suggests that they realize this is the only way to compete with nintendo—and the cheapest way to do it without inventing their own mobile hardware.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Releasing Two New Versions Of Switch This Year

MARATXXX

for the doubters: this rumor has been reported by major news publications in japan and america. it’s very likely they wouldn’t run a rumor unless it was true. secondly, a pro version is inevitable, and i think devs are already anticipating it. when you look at how poor games like daemon x machina play on the current model, or the sub-hd graphics of yoshi’s crafted world, it’s obvious that devs have their sights not on improving graphics for the current model, but opening up the resolution once there’s more horsepower. crafted world in particular seems odiously under-optimized. similarly, i don’t think doom eternal would be coming to the system unless there was a guaranteed way to play it at higher quality.

Re: Feature: Our 15 Most Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games of 2019

MARATXXX

considering the lack of firm dates, 2019 could very well be the year everyone feared 2018 would be--the year with nothing. metroid and pokemon releases, the centrepoint releases, are totally pie in the sky speculation with regard to release dates. the only high profile game that i feel will come out (due to the quality of the videos shared with the public) is daemon x machina--a game that looks incredible and will be an instant buy from me if it's reviewed well.

that kill la kill game also looks super cool and i hope it comes to switch with an english localization if possible.
