@johnvboy it's not about the "power" race, exactly. it's about the race between relevance and irrelevance. if nintendo can put out an appealing, somewhat more powerful "switch pro" or "switch 2", that is backwards compatible and is playing more contemporary games, then i think more gamers will start looking at the switch as more than just a secondary console, but a more appealing, more relevant console, period.
@Matthew010 nintendo should be aggressive with the switch pro. a powerful switch pro released before xbox two and ps5 could encourage buyers to see how much more theyre getting if they go with switch instead... make the non-hybrid competition look out of date by comparison.
@Heavyarms55 i get that, but at the same time it does provide the kind of technical analysis that, let's admit, most game reviewers are no longer capable of—and perhaps shouldn't be focusing on in any case, unless the issues are glaring. but for tech nerds like myself, i love DF, and it's rare that what they say one way or another actually impacts my purchasing decisions. but i do like being an educated consumer.
@Heavyarms55 DF have replaced the role that the scored review once fulfilled for many people—a so-called objective, by the book technical analysis of a game's performative strengths and weaknesses.
the lack of docking with the switch lite heavily suggests that the switch pro's design will have a similarly unique form factor and won't just slide into the pre-existing switch dock. i'm guessing it will just be a full-on generational replacement.
@YANDMAN @kdawg2k ...and how, exactly, can we trust they’ve fixed the problems without playing it for ourselves? the demo was so cringe-inducingly bad that they need to put out a new demo so we can see whether or not the ‘gamefeel’ has actually been changed.
i thought the film succeeded in spite of itself—the pokemon and the worldbuilding were great for the most part, but the narrative was sloppy and the characters moronic even by hollywood standards.
let's go's lack of pro controller support really pissed me off—especially as that came out the same time my left joy-con started to drift. so not only was i obliged to use a controller that is objectively too small for my hands, but i was dealing with the prospect of laying out a substantial amount of money to potentially replace the joycon (air-spraying did reduce the problem, but didn't eliminate it).
i really hope this isn't the developer's way of saying that they're just going to continue to ignore nintendo's best controller. honestly it may put me off the title. the switch is a hybrid console for a reason. it's a shame that one of their best franchises deliberately kneecaps themselves.
@Devlind dark souls was delayed due to online functionality optimization, when combined with the unique nature of playing the game on the switch (being able to pause the game by going to the home menu, for instance, isn't available on any other platform). besides online optimization, though, everything else about the single player experience was fine.
@Ludovsky nintendo isn't copying playstation and xbox's playbook here—they're going to iterate on the switch like a mobile phone...where yeah new iterations are rather constant. fortunately they have dynamic scaling resolution built into their whole hardware/software approach. the switch was a success because they didn't copy anyone—this is their opportunity to show everyone how old fashioned and slow microsoft and sony are.
@Dang69 if you possess the capacity to think critically, assume the majority of other readers do as well. don't get needlessly aggrieved on behalf of imaginary idiots.
i hate to say this, but while i am very excited by the possibility of this game on switch, i am equally interested in reading reviews before buying. what we've seen of the game looks rather compromised.
it's always disappointing to see how vicious commenters are. such bloodlust. it was a non-violent offense. given his compulsivity, it sounds like the guy may be mentally ill. in which case, yeah, prison is not the right penalty for him. he just needs therapy.
@IceEarthGuard nintendo has probably already sent out devkits of the improved hardware, considering that they're potentially releasing one this summer.
i wonder if devs simply aren't trying to hit the recommended specs for the switch because they're already eyeballing the improved specs of the next model?
... these figures pretty capably demonstrate why it’s the perfect time for nintendo to release a family of switch hardware. they have the opportunity to completely change the landscape of videogaming right now, while the iron is hot.
@nessisonett moral puritanism, while long associated with right wing religious and social movements, has now become secularized and is just as often associated with left wing social justice thinking... which, in my opinion, is fine. media and storytelling in general is most resonant and relevant when it is at least reflective and respectful of the complex identities of their consumer base. that said, let capitalism be the deciding influence here. if people want something to exist, they should demand it and buy it, or ignore it if it doesn’t suit them.
i'm not sure a lot of the people commenting here realize this, but nintendo is in a special position here—with a more powerful switch, capable of playing more contemporary titles, they could effectively turn the conversation away from the ps5 or xbox two. the lack of mobile hardware from the competition has dramatically killed the energy around the playstation and xbox in the last year. the fact that everyone else is turning to streaming on mobile platforms suggests that they realize this is the only way to compete with nintendo—and the cheapest way to do it without inventing their own mobile hardware.
@LloydWhiteV it’s now been vetted by credible sources at the manufacturing level. wall street journal doesn’t publish unsourced rumors. it’s the truth.
@NintendoFan4Lyf from my point of view, it seems like youve replaced one habit with three. personally am happy with my laptop and switch-and plan to upgrade the switch long before the laptop.
@dazzleshell i imagine a full blooded switch 2 will arrive after ps5 and xbox two. the first switch succeeded by making a calculated counterprogramming move. they’ll need to do the same thing again.
@NintendoFan4Lyf lol you upgraded to ps4 pro and xbox one x and are willing to buy a switch pro but somehow a performance spec pc is too expensive? for the sum total of all three you could have a pretty nice gaming desktop.
for the doubters: this rumor has been reported by major news publications in japan and america. it’s very likely they wouldn’t run a rumor unless it was true. secondly, a pro version is inevitable, and i think devs are already anticipating it. when you look at how poor games like daemon x machina play on the current model, or the sub-hd graphics of yoshi’s crafted world, it’s obvious that devs have their sights not on improving graphics for the current model, but opening up the resolution once there’s more horsepower. crafted world in particular seems odiously under-optimized. similarly, i don’t think doom eternal would be coming to the system unless there was a guaranteed way to play it at higher quality.
@ottospooky publicly traded companies rely upon analysis and prediction to adjust share prices. it’s notable how specific the numbers are. theyre not just saying “it will make a bazillion dollars”.
@rushiosan not exactly accurate considering its the same aesthetic as hyper light drifter, which was in development at the same time as no man’s sky—and its really just a color scheme, not a similarity in design at all.
i will never be suckered into buying these--i think it encourages only the worst tendencies in game development and consumerism. what a waste of resources and energy.
@DavidMac I'm guessing its a passively controllable camera—you can use your stick to move it, but if not it drifts to different positions depending on where you are.
i hope the next pokemon is a breath of the wild esque overhaul. not necessarily aping that games style, but rather its guts to do something really showstopping and visionary, not just the same old game with shiny new graphics.
@Welshland Dark Souls runs fine on the Switch. it more or less look identical to the original PC version, albeit with performance improvements and bug fixes. anyone aware of the history of the game should be pleased as punch with how well it performs on switch.
there was a lot of low resolution footage mixed with higher quality footage. i wonder what this one will look like? hopefully it's worth playing on the switch and not merely a ported curiosity. i will wait for reviews and get it if it's good.
@retro_player_22 this kind of thing i s exactly why sakurai hates making these games. let him do what he thinks is interesting for himself. this is why the game is so high quality. if he added everything that everyone demanded the vision of the game would be diluted.
@Samwise7 read between the lines... all dlc decided in advance= sakurai is so tired of working on these games he wasn’t interested in protracting the post-release schedule into some nebulous everlasting thing. to him the dlc were planned in advance less to satisfyy fans who will always have fresh demands, and more as a marketing tactic.
considering the lack of firm dates, 2019 could very well be the year everyone feared 2018 would be--the year with nothing. metroid and pokemon releases, the centrepoint releases, are totally pie in the sky speculation with regard to release dates. the only high profile game that i feel will come out (due to the quality of the videos shared with the public) is daemon x machina--a game that looks incredible and will be an instant buy from me if it's reviewed well.
that kill la kill game also looks super cool and i hope it comes to switch with an english localization if possible.
@OorWullie this is nothing like gone home. there's quite a bit more interactivity and exploration in this game. you're doing yourself a disservice by ignoring it, at least for these reasons.
