@MrKai Because people like companies who are pro-consumer. NSO is a PR Disaster. Look at the YouTube Dislikes. Look at the videos coming out that are getting thousands of views bashing the service. Nintendo will be fine if they give all of this away for free. They just don't want to leave money on the table.
@MrKai No I'm defining critical thought as not going out of your way at every opportunity to lick a large corporation's boot. If you like NSO, fine but don't pretend like Nintendo is doing paid online for the consumers. They're doing it for their investors.
@Alantor28 I am imaginary? If all you see is people who "think like I do" maybe we're not as fake as you think. I have a Switch along with BOtW, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, MK8 Deluxe and I have Smash Ultimate pre-ordered. I am a real person and unlike you and other NintenDrones, capable of critical thought.
@Alantor28 I haven't bought it yet. Gaming is an entertainment medium. You don't need NSO to survive. If you complain about NSO but buy it anyway you're not helping, you're part of the problem. If you give companies like Nintendo financial incentives to be anti-consumer, they are going to continue to ignore consumer feedback. Money talks.
"It can be very costly to provide these features for free". Yeah, no ****. That's why we buy your games, to help pay for the online inferstructure. I pay for your consoles, pay for your games and pay for my internet. Is that not enough? Is it entitlement to want access to all of the features when I buy the game? Imagine you bought a Blu-ray movie and the deleted scenes we're hid away online and couldn't be accessed without a ransom payment. It's time we put our foot down. No other industry could get away with what the games Industry is doing. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET.
@chardir Especially considering a lot of this stuff is listed for above MSRP. I think 40% off MSRP is minimum to be considered a "good deal", at least to me.
This is dumb people who prefer physical shouldn't have to buy the game twice. If you prefer digital, good for you but people who want to not make eShop purchases and get all content in physical form shouldn't be treated as entitled.
Club Nintendo 2013 (Year Of Luigi), Here's three giant posters. My Nintendo 2018, Here's a wall paper and a 30% discount on a 20 year old game for an irrelevant console.
The game looks good but the lack of voice chat is a deal breaker. MH3U had native voice chat on the Wii U 5 years ago, there's no excuse. The $60 price doesn't help either but I know this game will be dirt cheap 2 years from now. I picked up MH3U for $10 used, I'll wait for a similar deal.
@TheMadPolarBear I agree that compromises had to be made but I don't think they were made in the right places. They shouldn't have used the original assets and textures. They should have used lower Polygon models and flatter textures but kept the resolution locked to 720p in hanheld mode. There is no point in using those assets if the resolution is to low to see the extra detail they provide.
I appreciate their effort but they need to chill with the dynamic resolution. 360p is not acceptable. Since when is a native 720p 30fps a luxury? 720p has been the bare minimum since 2007. Even the WII U ran it's games at resolutions at or above 720p and that was with 2GB of ram and a second screen sucking bandwidth.
@Kirgo Well that's the thing. Smash 4 is Worth $60. But the DLC, which is $80 and only adds 10% more characters and stages and a few useless Mii fighter outfits is not worth the asking price. I don't get the "don't like it don't buy it argument" especially since the best 2 characters (Bayonneta and Cloud) are locked behind a paywall. Not all DLC needs to be free but it needs to be priced reasonably. Splatoon 2 introducing gameplay altering multiplayer DLC would not be good for those not willing to pay. If they want to stop giving us free content I'm fine with that. If they are going to charge us for anything I want it to be Splatoon 3.
I sure hope not. Going by how bad Smash 4's post launch monetization was. That game was $40 on 3DS, $60 on WII U with each version having exclusive content, required a $20 adapter to fully enjoy the WII U version and had $80 of DLC. That's $200 for one complete game (not counting Amiibo). Splatoon 2 is already at $80 (not counting Amiibo) so I think it's unreasonable for Nintendo to ask for any more investment from us in just one game.
Who's to say the game would sell less if censorship is optional. Why not release two different versions. One rated E10+ and the other rated T/M. See which one sells better. Censorship apologist don't want to give people that choice because they would choose "wrong". If you give people the option to turn the Censorship off it defeats the purpose of the censorship. Though I will concede that while censorship is detrimental in the U.S. it's mandatory in authoritarian countries like China, Turkey, Germany and Australia. Not because consumers want them censored but because they will get banned otherwise.
@BulbasaurusRex Many pro censorship people boycott games simply because they aren't changed. How about a compromise. Games have censorship and the censorship is enabled by default... but people also have the ability to disable the censorship in the options menu. That way everyone is happy.
I really hope Nintendo has learned that there customers won't tolerate censorship. If they really want to know want their fans want they should really ask them directly. The Ideological busybodies at Kotaku and Polygon don't represent what gamers want.
@holygeez03 The Switch is more than capable enough to run breath of the wild at 1080p 30fps. It's just that it wasn't optimized for the console, it's a Wii U game first and foremost (hence the performance issues at launch). Super Mario Oddysey can easily run at 1080p 30fps on Switch but Nintendo prioritized 60fps gameplay. Fun fact Mario Oddysey does run at 1080p30 whenever you're in snapshot mode.
@riChchestM Because writing your subjective opinions as objectives facts isn't something your supposed to do when you write articles. He clearly states that the game is worth a purchase if don't you don't own it already but not for the DLC alone. "We’d give the Ultimate Edition a recommendation to those who haven’t yet tried out Shantae: Half-Genie Hero; there’s something here for everybody, and dozens of hours of content mean that you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck. However, if you’ve already put plenty of time into the original game, you may want to think twice before double dipping"
Even if FIFA 18 did only sell 0.75m copies that's still really good for such a lazy low budget port. We'll be getting FIFA 19 on Switch for sure. And hopefully this next version will have parity with the others, for EA's sake.
This reason I boycott Switch games with large install sizes is not that I am opposed to digital distribution, but that storage is disproportionately more expensive for Switch. $60 gets you either a 128GB Micro SD card or a 2TB external hard drive. It was Nintendo's choice to use cartridges for the Switch. That burden of costs should be on the manufacturer not the consumer, or the third party publisher.
720p for a Wii U remaster? No thanks. Anything below 1080p looks like a blob of pixels on my 4k 40 inch TV, even with the sharpness at 0. I'll skip this one. Hopefully with Bayonetta 3 we'll get 1080p support.
@Piersen They probly want to keep GBA games exclusive to Wii U increase the consoles popularity (similar to gameboy/gameboy color games on 3DS). The 3DS is fully capable of playing GBA games via native backwards compatibility and people who bought the 3DS before the price drop got 10 GBA games free.
