Re: Obituary: Satoru Iwata

LordessMeep

Still feels like a punch to the gut. 55 is way too young. R.I.P.
Thank you, Iwata-san. You've played a large role in sustaining my interest in Nintendo. Nintendo Directs will never be the same.

Re: Parent Trap: Helping Newcomers Start Playing Pokémon, Zelda and Metroid

LordessMeep

I played my first Pokemon game EVER (Fire Red) only last year. Since then, I've been caught up in White 2 and, more recently, X. Zelda, personally, is one that can be introduced to new comers at any point, considering how each iteration is more or less a standalone story, as @bizcuthammer said. My first was OoT and it still remains a favorite of mine.

Phoenix Wright, on the other hand, NEEDS to be played from the beginning to fully appreciate the story being told. This especially holds since each case within the same game refers to past cases/events/people and everything is pretty much intertwined. It's a shame though since some newcomers could be discouraged from diving in - I was too! But then I played the first case and ended up being hooked.

I've never played Metroid properly either so I'll probably take up @RupeeClock's advice sometime.

Re: Don't Expect To See A Mainline Pokémon Game On Wii U Or Your Smartphone

LordessMeep

Given that Pokemon has, almost always, been a vehicle for the Nintendo handheld systems, a mainline Pokemon game on another platform was a pretty far-fetched idea. I also agree with Masuda's points on keeping Pokemon off the Wii U. Akin to Animal Crossing, I feel the franchise just plays better when on the go. The portability definitely adds to the Pokemon experience since you can access the game at any time.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS

LordessMeep

I still don't get the 2DS's appeal, not when it lacks the clamshell design. I do understand the issues with the hinges and everything, but I keep thinking about the lack of screen protection and how large and unwieldy it looks. The mono sound is another thing that puts me off, given how good the sound quality on the 3DS is. I certainly won't pick it up but I guess some parents on a tighter budget would.

I personally love the 3D effect on all the games but I don't usually play with it on since I don't want to drain the battery. It does look absolutely fantastic with a lot of games and I hope Nintendo doesn't phase 3D visuals out with their next handheld.

Re: Wii U And 3DS Developers Share Their Thoughts On Region Locking

LordessMeep

@Sinister - I'll give you Brazil, but India does not have lower prices as compared to other regions. Hell, India isn't even an OPTION when selecting a country within a region. Games don't come around here and importing costs are through the roof. Now, with the Indian rupee being weaker than the US Dollar, the prices have increased even further, the rarer games going for upto $80-100 in equivalent INR.

I don't even blame Nintendo for doing this...there is not much of a fanbase for Nintendo in India and they definitely won't be able to survive only as a gaming company, unlike Sony/MS who have other ventures within the country.

Sorry, for jumping at you like that, it's a very huge issue for me.

On topic, region-locking is a pain, though.

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

LordessMeep

Personally, $10.00 puts a significant dent in my budget but, given the chance, I'd definitely put my money towards this game (and I probably will, once I get a Wii U). Can't blame Nintendo for getting that money though! ;D

That said, visually, Earthbound has aged so beautifully! I can't believe this is a game from nineteen years ago!

Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

LordessMeep

Aside from the huge problem of Nintendo lacking an account system, I do feel that prices for digital retail titles are high - especially since they don't really have any manufacturing costs that are in physical copies. Sadly, despite the obvious drawbacks of digital, I'll probably continue buying retail titles from the eShop simply because downloading a game is cheaper than importing a physical copy.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Footage Revealed, Mega Man Introduced as a New Challenger

LordessMeep

Aside from the obvious Smash hype, this video just makes me think that a Wii U Animal Crossing would be amazing.

Good thing they're releasing Smash Bros in 2014... I get some time to save up for the game. I'm still in the process of scraping together enough cash for Pokemon X, LttP2, Ace Attorney 5 and Bravely Default... and that's not even counting the money I need to import a Wii U. D:

That said, I look forward to the full roster. Hopefully Fire Emblem characters make an apperance!

Re: In Q1 2013 More Money Was Spent On iOS Games Than On 3DS And Vita Software Combined

LordessMeep

Personally, the handheld market will always have its audience for there will always be people looking for an on-the-go console experience. I have no problems with developers migrating to iOS in order to pursue another source of income. I honestly can't imagine the big name developers throwing away the income from $40-60 titles in favour of producing shallow $1 titles exclusively. If they're in it for providing the players with a memorable gaming experience, they certainly won't do so.

Re: Miiverse to Arrive on 3DS "Within This Year"

LordessMeep

I honestly can't wait for the Miiverse just so we can post comments on the game communities and maybe get an Earthbound VC-esque response (I'd really like Majora's Mask for the 3DS, actually) from Nintendo. Same thing with Japanese titles that don't make it to the west. I can certainly see myself using it quite a bit.

Re: Nintendo Of America Rep Insists That Lost Digital Content "Not Covered For Replacement"

LordessMeep

@haniwa - Ah, thanks for that. The $20 eShop cash was a nice gesture on their part. Even though there is no Nintendo support here, the good thing is that people don't know what a 3DS is here, so pick pocketing is out of the question. It also helps that I am super paranoid when carrying my 3DS around the city, so I tend to hold on to my bag like a lifeline of sorts.

@blacKnight - Hmm... never thought of it like that. But, personally, I feel that the upsides outweigh the downsides in this case, so Nintendo really should get with the times.

Re: Nintendo Of America Rep Insists That Lost Digital Content "Not Covered For Replacement"

LordessMeep

It breaks my heart to hear this, especially since I am an international customer and downloads are the only way I can get some games (outside of importing them for exorbitant prices, of course). I have over $150 worth of content on my 3DS and I'd hate for it to break/get lost. What is even more disappointing is that the solution has already been in place for a significant amount of time and that Nintendo is getting to it painfully slowly. We need NNIDs for the 3DS already.

@haniwa - Your story sounds encouraging. Mind if I ask how you approached them? I'm from Asia myself (India, they have zero Nintendo support here) and have an NA unit with an CN account too, which is why I ask.

Re: Talking Point: Fire Emblem: Awakening - The Big Casual Mode Debate

LordessMeep

@gsnap - THIS. My first playthrough was Normal/Classic and I abused the hell out of the support system. On my second playthrough of Hard/Classic (attempting to do it w/o grinding), I tried to not use the supports as much so that every character could get an even growth and the first party won't soak up most of the experience. Unfortunately, Chapter-5 had me stuck with units dying within the first few turns so I had to rely on supports. D: It's an extremely fun game but, like you said, the challenge peters out towards the end, especially if one grinds a lot.

My first time playing a FE game and I am really thankful for the Casual mode, though I've never played it. A more accessible game means more players means more FE, and that doesn't feel like a bad thing.

Re: First Impressions: Animal Crossing: New Leaf

LordessMeep

@Five-seveN, @GamerZack7, @MagicEmperor - Crashing your conversation because I love that episode. Patrick's "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" makes me laugh harder though.

OT - I am so hyped about this game. The wait is killing me. D:

Re: New Mode And Items Confirmed For Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

LordessMeep

Hmm... will pick it up somewhere down the line. Have to restrict myself to AC:NL, Pokemon X/Y and LttP 3DS this year. TAT

@Tech101 - Actually, in Japan, people game on their commute a lot. This was the reason why NSMB2 stages were so short, so that they could be completed quickly. I play on my commute myself, so playing in short bursts is better for platformers and it makes the game more portable. Shorter levels mean shorter times to finish them unlike an enormous level that'd take you a longer time. And if you have to pause in an awkward place to get off at your stop, tough.

In any case, the classic mode should appease you.

Re: Pikmin 3 Arrives in North America on 4th August

LordessMeep

I was ready to throw things after the Direct yesterday, especially with the vague answer of it arriving 'in just a little time'... but then the LttP reveal amongst others placated me. A solid release date for this game has me happy again.

Re: Iwata Reveals More Details On New Super Luigi U

LordessMeep

The 'New Super Luigi (not bros) U' title is a nice touch. I was expecting a reskin with this DLC but different control style sounds good. 100 second limit seems pretty challenging, especially with the way Luigi controls. The only limiter would be the pricing.. under $15 maybe?

Re: New Legend Of Zelda Title Confirmed For Nintendo 3DS, Due Late 2013

LordessMeep

Not the Zelda I was hoping for. T^T I do wish they bring either MM3DS or a brand new console style 3D Zelda game. Not hating on this game, but I am a fan of the open-world Zeldas.
Actually, I really liked the 3D effect in the trailer when Link bounces from one dungeon floor to the other. Drawing!Link brings a new dynamic to the board and I fail to understand how that is a bad thing. Certainly not a day one buy since I'll have to wait a few months for the physical copy to arrive over here. :/

tl:dr - I am hyped.

Re: Nintendo To Deliver New Homes To Animal Crossing: New Leaf Via SpotPass

LordessMeep

Well, considering Street Pass is hard to come by here, I'll atleast have something in my Happy Homes Showcase! Seriously, though, any AC:NL news has me impatient. I want to play it already! D:

@Prof_Elvin_Gadd - I think physical should be more suitable for you.. unless you have enough cash to double dip for the digital version. Really, changing catridges is a small inconvenience, though.

Re: Developers: No Nostalgia Allowed in Creating Core of Dark Moon

LordessMeep

It was a pretty good approach to the game actually. We ended up with something that can hold its own within the Mario-verse. I hope that we can see more Mario from Next-Level Games, they did a stellar job with LM:DM. I'd like to see their take on a handheld 3D Mario game, similar Galaxy/Sunshine (not SM3DL-esque, though. Loved it, but it wasn't a true console Mario game).

Re: Iwata Asks Delves Into Animal Crossing: New Leaf

LordessMeep

B-but I would've have liked panning for gold.. D:

Nevertheless, its the download route for me, though the price tag did little to influence that decision. That said, AC:NL is a game you would want have on your system all the time. I really can't wait for June.

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

LordessMeep

@Windy - I don't have a Wii U right now either, but it's more about me lacking the cash and a trustworthy place to import the console from. I see several games I'd like to play, but I'd rather wait around for the first party heavy hitters to arrive.
Can't wait for DQX either, but I'll probably break down and buy a console once a 3D Mario or Zelda is released, which ever comes first.
