Is there truth behind the rumour's mask?

It's the day before a 3DS-themed Nintendo Direct, so that means it's time for more rumours of a 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. This has been speculated upon since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D graced the handheld, with Nintendo even hinting way back in summer 2011 that fan demand could make it a reality.

In truth, we've had rumours about this before most Nintendo Direct broadcasts, though it's become less likely with each passing month; Nintendo's already working on a new Zelda title for the 3DS — of course it is — so would it want a Majora's Mask remake to come too close to the shiny new adventure? It's doubtful, but fan demand and the nagging suspicion that the beloved N64 title will get the re-make treatment never goes away.

A new rumour with a hint of credibility is here — though a spoonful of salt is recommended, as always — courtesy of retailer Xtralife posting a product page for Majora's Mask 3D, with an apparent release date of 8th November. In the screenshot (below) it's nestling next to the Smash Bros. 3DS game that doesn't even have a name yet, however, and our own searches of the site have revealed no such listing, so we're unable to recreate the screen from below; that's why we recommend keeping that salt handy.

Keen rumour fans at Zelda Informer are also stating that the product page was apparently created a good time ago but set to be private from public view, with today's appearance potentially being a mistake before a reveal in the upcoming Nintendo Direct broadcast. Or a cheeky scamp at the retailer is raising our hopes, falsely, we just don't know.

This may be nonsense, but perhaps not; the concept of this remake coming to 3DS to fill a potential schedule gap isn't exactly outrageous. It's fun to dream, and we'll know very soon whether this is yet another cruel, unfulfilled Majora's Mask promise, or an early hint ahead of a big announcement. Be sure to join us for Nintendo Direct to find out either way.
