If anyone likes this as a decoration you can get a knock off piranha plant on Aliexpress for a tenner with free delivery, and you get the enjoyment of building it. It doesn't function as a webcam but I'd argue the actual one can hardly be considered one too at that res.
I would like to give Nintendo, Sony and Sega my money for their old games but barring some collections, mini consoles and online services (to which I already subscribe) they make it almost impossible.
Buying actual retro games is a minefield with inflated prices, dodgy fakes doing the rounds along with cartridges and discs wearing out. And the devs/publishers don't see any of that money anyway.
The virtual console was a great way to legally purchase old games, and what did Nintendo do... shutter the service and close the store. And even then you were locked to not only that system, but that specific device, as in you couldn't purchase another Wii and just log in and access your legally purchased games like you would an app on iOS or Android.
There is a huge market for retro games but I have little sympathy for Nintendo etc. when they don't make it easy for consumers to access their stuff.
I just had a Google on this, they've said they will continue to support a game you've purchased on Stadia even if the publisher pulls it later, but it doesn't say what you can do if Google shutters the service in 2 years if not enough people buy it... But I think we all know.
I don't even like buying digital with Nintendo really as they have such a poor history, tying purchases to a particular machine and having so many hoops to jump through to get access to what I own is infuriating. I buy a new phone I just download my apps, same with PS4, Xbox etc.
@nintendolie Microsoft kinda tried this with the Xbox One before launch, not streaming but basically saying you were only renting the game, even if you had the box on a shelf at home.
You do not own the games you buy. You license them.
Discs are only used to install and then license games and do not imply ownership.
Your Xbox One must connect to the internet every 24 hours to keep playing games.
When playing on another Xbox One with your account, this is reduced to one hour.
@BulbasaurusRex nothing to stop them opening a new site, but as with sites like The Pirate Bay once the court has ruled Nintendo probably won't need to go to the court each time to take them down, they simply contact the big ISPs directly and get them added to the block list.
Not perfect but would likely stop a lot of "regular" people accessing this information and tools.
Those who really want the information, cracking tools and ROMs will find a way, but if you can reduce it significantly that can only be a good thing for the developers.
Brawl Brothers is awful, it ticks most of the boxes of what should be in a 90s scrolling beat'em up but feels just that, like a cobbled together Frankenstein's monster of a game. And the music sucks.
@sixrings I guess the annoyance is that these digital releases are the same as on PS4 and Xbox but cost more, if they were on a physical cartridge or had system specific enhancements then Capcom could justify the difference. As it is it just looks like a mean spirited cash grab.
But then people need to vote with their wallets, not buy them and then it's up to Capcom.
These have been on offer a number of times since launch so they obviously aren't getting the sales figures they expected otherwise they wouldn't be discounting them regularly.
@sixrings I guess because Nintendo have remade Link's Awakening from scratch whereas with the Resi games it appears they've simply remapped the buttons and released them as digital downloads.
I know there is more involved in porting obviously but that's not how it's perceived. If they had done anything unique for Switch then we'd understand the price increase.
Not for everyone but a great game in my opinion, I enjoyed the original release as it was but I waited for the reviews as obvious this could never live up to the hype.
I spent a lot of time on Reddit before release and people were filling in the blanks and making out this would be the last game they would ever need as it would offer everything... fools. And why preorder if buying digital? It's not like they are going to run out...
The fact reviewers were only given limited play time in controlled environments so close to launch or IGN had Sean playing and demoing screamed to me that this wasn't anywhere near finished.
I bought it cheap a few months later, certainly got my money's worth and I'd love to see it on Switch as a great game to dip in and out of.
@Mr_Persona all consoles change through the lifecycle of the machine due to cost savings, production improvements and even due to regulation changes.
I read an article about how different models of the SNES yellow differently over time due to the amount of boron or some other chemical in the plastic which was later banned.
Definitely not worth upgrading to this revision if you already have a Switch, unless you have more money than sense, but for anyone buying a new one or a replacement I think we'd all take extra battery life for free.
@Crono1973 yeah because for me the portability aspect would outweigh a drop in resolution and lower quality textures. I travel quite a bit for work so the Switch is perfect for me. I'll never see the end of the Witcher if I'm tied to a TV.
It's not a case of not being able to afford more TVs, we just don't want them all over the house.
I can see we aren't getting anywhere here though as you don't seem to be able to understand that people might have different needs to your own.
The Witcher is a great game regardless, playing at a lower resolution doesn't change the story.
@Crono1973 I really don't understand where you are coming from, not everyone has the money to buy multiple consoles or a gaming PC. If you've sunk 300 quid on a Switch and games that be you done for some considerable time.
And the Pro Controller is great in my opinion and the battery last forever. There does appear to be issues with the joy cons, thankfully I've not had trouble with mine but would be good if the UK had the same warranty repair as the US. Am sure this will follow in time.
Personally my Xbox One S is packed away in the loft and my PS4 Pro hasn't been touched for months. Due to the form factor and having kids who take over the TV I play more games on Switch than anything else. I'd never have sunk hundreds of hours into Zelda if it wasn't for the mobile option, I don't mind a downgrade in graphics for the convenience.
DRM login requirement, odd frame rate, poor resolution scaling and audio. Just because there haven't been many Nintendo versions of Doom doesn't excuse lazy porting like this.
I don't play online and the NES games don't interest me, but I can't take the risk of losing my Zelda saves so I have to pay for the online service.
NES games are a curiosity for most people at best, I grew up with one and it was great but very few of the games standup nowadays barring stellar titles like Mario 3. But even then it looks poor on the NES, the SNES all-stars version is more colourful and would be a much better offering.
I'd be intrigued to know what the playtime stats are like, I'd guess pretty low.
@MaseSco licensing is one of the biggest issues with re-releases whether it be characters, music or whatever, you can't really put it aside. Maybe the license holder just wanted too much money to make it viable.
@Heavyarms55 have you actually used VR? While I agree having a heavy screen strapped to your face and wires dangling off back to a console isn't ideal I still found PSVR to be an amazing experience. To me VR has to be wireless for it to fulfil its potential and it can be with a Switch or a decent spec phone.
VR is incredibly immersive to me, we're still really early in the development of VR as a technology, controllers are being refined and better games are created which aren't tech demos. I never bought into 3DTV but I definitely see a future for VR in gaming.
Games being more accessible to a wider audience can only be a good thing, like funky mode in Tropical Freeze.
Some of my favourite moments come from games like Journey and Fire Watch, neither can be considered difficult and you don't need to do much to progress but it was about the experience that made them memorable for me.
@BulbasaurusRex have you played Journey, Abzu, Inside or even Firewatch? If you have and don't feel like you've had a worthwhile experience with any of them I honestly feel really sorry for you.
I'd take any of the above over 40+ hours of an Assassin's Creed collect-a-thon. I can't even remember which AC is which at this point they're all so bland.
@darthstuey back then just having a TV show about something you loved was a massive thing for many folks I believe. Seeing people playing on a NeoGeo was amazing, something I'd only read about in Mean Machines and could never hope to afford.
So glad I own a Wii U, one of those odd consoles that will be remembered far better thsn the sales figures reflect, kinda like the Dreamcast.
Super Mario 3D World alone it a worthwhile purchase, hope it gets a Switch port so more people can enjoy it. Personally a much better game than Mario Odyssey.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Piranha Plant Camera - Shocking Image Quality, But Its Cuteness Will Snare You
This looks brilliant, but 640x480 in 2025 is insulting.
How anyone can give this a 7, especially considering the price is having a laugh.

Re: Reminder: Zelda Switch Lite 'Hyrule Edition' Pre-Orders Are Now Live, Will You Be Getting It?
I won't be getting one, if it had an OLED screen I'd consider it but not with LCD.
Nintendo just trying to squeeze every bit of coin they can before their next hardware release.
Re: The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom amiibo Is Now Available, Did You Get It?
@SwitchForce I see your point and agree re. NFC scan but it's pretty much impossible to find any Zelda amiibo out in the wild. It's scalpers or scans.
I'd happily purchase all those I don't have but Nintendo seem to refuse to create enough to satisfy demand.
Re: Ubisoft CEO Apologises For Internal Comments After Weak Software Sales
@Bunz I thought the same. There seems to be an inability these days to take it on the chin and just say sorry for what you did.

Re: NES Games On Switch Playable For Up To Seven Days Without Internet Connection
@Azathoth but essentially you do have to check in each month on Xbox as how are you going to access the next set of games without going online?
Re: NES Games On Switch Playable For Up To Seven Days Without Internet Connection
@Galenmereth the NES games do have online play actually.
