You certainly do a lot of describing of the "sim" aspects when you could just have pointed at Pikmin and said "pretty much that". It's like a boring, repetitive version of Pikmin with all the good parts removed. Combat lacks the timing needs Pikmin has, just pile 'em on. Producing more Meerkats is a slow and tedious affair and to finish a level you need a certain number and dig routes to all numbered points on the map, neither of which presents a real challenge beyond not falling asleep. Predators are random so there's no real pacing to their appearance. I've seen some serious framerate drops at times which is bad considering how barebones the graphics are. I'd expect the DS to chug with graphics like that, not the Wii. The sound is annoying, music practically absent.
I wonder if Just Sing contains all verses of the German anthem or if they've only put the third in there? The first two still exist on the books and if they didn't research it properly they might mess that up (the first two aren't sung anymore because of Nazi co-notations).
Giant Bomb's Podcast (IIRC) talked about how horrible Waluigi is. The impression I get is that he's still different from the other characters: Wario is egoistic and ugly but Waluigi is plain up insane. The name sounds slighly less awkward when you learn that it's a pun in Japan with warui meaning evil but they probably should have adjusted it for the west where the pun doesn't work (Weegee?).
Really? New controls was the reason for the Wii version? I recall reading that the PS3 version would have been too expensive to develop, guess he can't admit that in an interview?
I grew up with the C64 so the Bit Trip music sounds too damn primitive for 8 bit to me. It's all staccato blips, nothing like the twangy chords the C64 played. Compare real C64 music to the modern retro stuff. See also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf62lbxVnQY
I think it's a nice game but not 10-worthy, it's too simple and somehow tires me very quickly, making it hard to remember the necessary steps for each obstacle (e.g. I might try jumping over the purple ball after too much fatigue which just takes a few minutes of playing and can happen within one run of 1-11). My eyes lose focus when I see the game which isn't terribly pleasant either (possibly because the strong parallaxing suggests a depth that the lens cannot find, I lack stereoscopic depth perception so this might cause the same effect for me that 3D movies have on others). The best music is the menu and credits music, the ingame music doesn't even remotely stack up to that.
I've already tried to get my Glory Days fix from the iPod but the two similar games I downloaded (Bunker run and Armor Raiders) just aren't as good. A new portable version of GD would need single cart multiplayer, it's clearly a multiplayer game but since it's a niche game you won't have other people with their own copies around.
The first HAWX was great fun, let's hope this one won't get a port as bad as HAWX1 on the iPhone (it lost several key features that made the console version stand out among flight action games).
I might care if it weren't on rails. Considering how everything else gets bombarded with first person shooters why does the Wii only get crappy entries into a dead genre?
I don't care much about the characters but the combat system was good fun (the Tiger was just too damn overpowered, even removed the need for directional blocks).
Maybe a wiiware mario brothers game or metroid for the wiiware Maybe a wiiware kid icurus
I disagree. With names like that they should either make something worthy of full retail or not even bother. I don't want any tiny Metroid minigames, I want a full Metroid and a full Metroid can be sold at retail.
Try to get that G&W Gallery ASAP, it includes remade versions of most of its games that are often way more fun. E.g. Chef is kinda meh in its original form but the remake is downright awesome.
I'm still playing Alpha Bounce like crazy, for 500 points that makes it a great deal. There's some awfully overpowered stuff in there but I guess that keeps it varied to some degree.
Man, Alpha Bounce has some extremely overpowered powerups (like Q which removes like 90% of the blocks in play) and many levels have powerups in nearly every block, resulting in a massive cluster when all those powerups go off, releasing more powerups that then do even more... It's not much of a ball breaking game when everything explodes, multiplies, then explodes again...
Australian DSi Shop: "The Nintendo DSi Shop is currently undergoing maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please try again later."
There's a notice on the Wii Shop Channel that they did some maintenance at 3:00 GMT (was probably announced before then). Probably just making sure the servers will run fine and not break unexpectedly.
It's a licensed game, Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Lept Through Space) is a TV series. It's comedy and many of the important characters are the AIs of entire colonies, makes their fights even more crazy (a regular tube-shaped colony using its giant mirrors like swords against a star shaped colony with a gigantic chainsaw arm? A worm like colony suplexing another colony into the surface of a moon?).
I didn't like the G&W version much because you have to watch out primarily for the update order to know which sausage to catch first, the GBA enhanced Chef game was way more fun.
It's great value for money; you're only missing panic mode and multiplayer from the Drill Spirits cart (and the theme song and intro...well, that might make it worthwhile).
I heard that the US version of Drill Spirits dropped the Dristone mode (also explains the "DSi exclusive" claim) so this download is actually a better deal for them.
So that's it then, no Zangeki no Reginleiv for the West. You'd think Nintendo would actually try to use that Motion Plus now that they've put it out there instead of making more and more games use the Wii Remote sideways.
By the time the messages pop up all my clocks show a way later time than the timestamp on the message (several minutes difference), is there a delay between submission and appearance or is that just the current time on the server's clock?
Why didn't they add bows so you can shoot ghosts with a bow instead of a sword when you want... If you're going about ripping stuff from Wii Sports Resort you can just as well combine some of it.
No,there will not be a Wii HD. Why the hell does everybody ignore Iwata like he's some clueless nobody? Iwata is the freaking president of the company, he clearly stated that a Wii HD would not sell.
Nice week you got here Europe. Why can't NoA be just as good? sigh
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, let's trade. Look up the last few NoE weeks and weep.
Surely I can't be the only one who keeps thinking "where the hell is Castlevania Rebirth"? It's been 6 weeks now since it was released in the US. We're not talking about an obscure DSi Ware game that hasn't yet been released elsewhere.
True but how long did Gradius Rebirth take to arrive?
That doesn't sound like mine sweeper, it sounds like that world one bonus game in Yoshi's Island where you would keep flipping tiles until you quit or uncover a Kamek, in the latter case you lose all tiles you opened so it becomes a matter of how many tiles do you dare to turn. The tile flipping minigame in NSMBW seems strange because there is no need to judge when to quit and there is no way to know ahead of time which tiles form a pair either (like in the YI memory game where it shows you all tiles at the start and you get that one chance to memorize them) so it's just dumb luck with no strategy at all.
I'm not too sure why he felt the need to comment tho'
Analysts claiming that the iPad is a dangerous competitor to the DS (it doesn't look like it's meant for portable gaming but Pachter has never been stopped by facts), causing FUD among investors.
Doesn't the game have to be set up for that beforehand? Unlike the 360 the Wii does not have a game-independent DLC menu so there would be no way to download it.
Wii Play is worth getting even if you only play the Tanks game.
Fuzzy: I don't think Wii Fit's controller should be held against it because the balance board has few uses outside of Wii Fit. Wii Play is the only one whose controller you'd want to have separately from the game.

Seriously, this game is crap.
Re: Interviews: Mateusz Makowiec & Piotr Łatocha - Heavy Fire: Special Operations
Too bad he didn't answer the "why a rail shooter" question because that's what I'm wondering too: Why are people making rail shooters all the time?

They could have replaced this week's entire PAL releases with X-Scape and I would have been happy.

Re: Red Steel 2 Met Ubi's Sales Expectations
They've learned some good lessons with RS2 and I think they may be able to apply them to make an even better game within a year.
Re: Review: Fire Panic (DSiWare)
The only DSiWare titles i'm interested in are The Mr.Game & Watch titles along with the new Shante coming out.
Alpha Bounce, DoDoGo, AiRace, Army Defender, Suujin Taisen, Reflect Missile, Dark Void Zero, Pop Island, ...
Re: Experience Cowboy Antics on WiiWare
The original game had "will run on hand-cranked PCs" in its feature list. I still have it somewhere, maybe I should try finishing it.

Meh, if you want an interactive story-type thing get the Phoenix Wright games, those do a much better job of making you care about what's going on.

You'd think the first G&W titles they'd go for would be stuff like Donkey Kong that uses two screens like the DS...

Re: Review: Dracula: Undead Awakening (WiiWare)

Dracula is a pretty direct Crimsonland clone judging from the manual.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd January 2010 (Europe)

Because every flea market on the continent has dozens of Axelay carts for cheap.
