I don't know if it's how the games typically get compiled or what, but MOST of the time Sequential Read / Write is really all that matters.

However.... Some games rely HEAVILY on random read / write. Why this matters? The cheap SD Cards can easily run in the 0.3MB/s speed range for this type of loading. This is really bad.
The better ones run at 10mb/s with some insane ones running in the 25mb/s area.

This is like cheap SSD level of performance.

This is for loading large quantities of tiny files. For example Monster hunter with its huge library of items would often hitch and lag and load the graphics for armor with a delay when opening the inventory. Whereas the people who managed to get SSD hard drives working on their Wii U had no problems whatsoever.

@MoonKnight7

You answered your own question. SD looked very bad, always. They used gimmicks to make it appear acceptable.

HD looks very good. 4k looks very good.

The point being there is literally next to zero advantage.
What determines market trends is how the average consumer reacts and advertising.
The average consumer see's comparisons of HD and 4k and are like hmmmmm... looks similar? But SD to HD, WOWOWOWOW TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

I dunno, i think Splatoon 1 was good, and yes 9 good. But part of that rating i believe is due to it's originality. It's no longer original which downgrades it automatically.

Most of the changes in 2 are things that should've been in the original. This game is a solid 9, not a 9.5. based on what i've seen so far, that may change come Friday.

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

I played CoD once... that's enough for anyone.

Seriously ultra realism in graphics isn't the end-game anymore. It's nice for sure, it's a great bone to be thrown that's about it.

People are demonstrating with their wallet that they want good games.

The Wii U was an "ok" console with a terrible OS and archaic Network and Storage hardware and infrastructure.

The Switch however, has much promise. That's all that can be said at this point, no one really knows more than that.

Storage hardware is no longer an issue and graphics support is much easier to port and develop for with Nvidia behind the plastic. We'll just have to wait and see where it goes from here.
