Re: Controversial "Adults Only" Murder Simulator Hatred Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

Individual

@nessisonett respectfully, most of what you just said/have said is absolutely bonkers. Firstly, this is not at all tied to Nazism, as there is no mention of the main character killing others because of their race, ethnicity, religion, etc.. Secondly, the notion that these developers are especially disrespectful because they are Polish and should not have made this is in and of itself disrespectful being as you are holding other people to a different standard than others. I do understand your sensibilities to violence upon hearing those stories, though I am Polish too. My point for mentioning that is that different persons are comfortable with seeing/creating different kinds of content, even when they share a generally common background, which means that you should not push what you find acceptable upon others and criticize them for not adhering to that. Thirdly, the “power fantasy” argument is very alike to the “video games cause violence argument.” Just because you control a character does not mean that you identify with them or are going to replicate what they do. Additionally, if you find this game fun or cathartic, that is not wrong either, as videos games, like any other art medium, partially exist to explore themes or release emotions like aggression, and that is far from a bad or reprehensible thing. Fourthly, as far as I know, this game doesn’t glorify violence. It doesn’t actively look down upon it, sure, but it isn’t saying that killing is fun in its story. Fifthly, more control does not need to be put on developers/creators simply because others may want to enforce their viewpoints of what is acceptable. People should be allowed to make what they want and not be told what they can/cannot do or be given a rating that essentially kills their chances of selling their product — I think the AO rating is unnecessary, on a side note.

Uhhhhhhh...The Town of Light — the one starring the sixteen-year-old mental asylum patient? I'm allured by its supposed coverage of mature themes (mental illness, , etc.), but am off-put by its relatively dated visuals. Would like to know if it's bad or not.

Minus one paragraph (the one preceding the conclusion), you barely touch upon why you despise this game’s scenario aside from “Because I disagree with it.” You’re repetitive, critical wording on how this game is bad since it exists is as redundant as this game you despise. Instead of trying to pin yourself as a hero for incessantly attacking something some people may like, learn how to write a review where you shove less of your personal bias in it and more of your opinion on what the game is rather than what you wish it wasn’t. Also, to specify, I am not personally attacked and saying this as I was shattered by a critical review of something (something I don’t have any interest in). I am saying this as a fellow writer who is awe-struck by the lack of fairness and depth put into this review.

Re: Capcom Considers Dragon's Dogma "To Be An Important Franchise"

If they do a new one, I hope it’s more Dark Arisen and less Dragon’s Dogma. Meaning, the game’s combat/pawn mechanics are much, much better complemented by the former’s linear yet somewhat expansive environments than they are the latter’s boring open-world. Plus, the level-design of Dark Arisen is just stronger/more enjoyable.

@Nerdfather1 It has nothing to do with begging for the same modes for every game, and everything to do with justifiable disappointment being had over not getting the same experience as other versions when what is missing does not have to be platform specific (IE stuff like touch controls). It is a sentiment that stretches to other games including Guts and Glory and its missing level editor as well as Turok 2’s missing multiplayer (of which the supposedly poor quality is no excuse for its absence thus making an inferior version on Switch). It is a relatively wide problem that is a very solid gripe to have with a title imo.

Japan and NA both look good in their own right, but I think NA eases out as victor as while it may not better resemble the actual style of the game, it gets across the fact that there’s gonna be rumbling in high school in a superior fashion. Plus, the style of the cover is good as well.

@aaronsullivan

Contrary to your belief, I am indeed aware of the business side of things and have been paying attention. THQ shut down, Visceral shutdown, and Epic (almost shut down). With the exception of THQ, Visceral (like many companies under Activision, EA, and Konami) shutdown because it wasn’t taking the direction of what they’re almighty publisher wanted, and Epic almost shut down due to their stocks being bought out by nearly 49 percent by Tencent Holdings. Shutdowns do happen, but they don’t occur because companies didn’t put microtransactions, season passes, various editions, loot boxes, and dlc which cuts content into/with their game. Nintendo made lots of money with BOTW which had only a season pass. Persona 5 sold well and is seen as one of the best games of the year, same with Nier. To say games need those things to make money when they sold greatly makes you question who really isn’t aware of the business side of games and who needs a better understanding.

@aaronsullivan

I’m going to be doing this response by addressing everything I feel needs addressing beginning with your first comment and ending with your second comment.

“It's better to be informed about the plans for DLC ahead of time.”

I agree, DLC plans should be given so as to better inform us as to what to expect in the future for a game. However, many games don’t do this and either sell a season pass for DLC we don’t know about (I’m not against season passes unless they’re overly expensive) or announce said DLC near a game’s launch, giving the likely appearance that although this may have been worked on separately from the main game, it should have been in the base game as it was still released near the game’s launch, should have been worked on afterwards, or not announced on a date close to the game’s release. Releasing DLC to extend a game’s lifespan is good, but cases like these are just scenarios of greed and consumers having content cut and forced to pay more than $60 if they want the full game.

“As an example, let's be generous and say 50% of players complete the game in 25 hours and the other 50% only played for 10 hours and moved on. They all paid $60 at launch.”

I understand your point of how many people demand all this content and don’t even bother to play it, but the companies are still making money whether they finish the game or not.

“Who should care if it was being built from the first week of development? Who should care if it's already ‘on disk’.”

We should as it’s content which should have been in the game, especially if it was being made in that period of time with that method of cutting.

“It's just there to help make the game a worthwhile investment in the first place.”

Yeah, at the expense of our funds which just lost $60.

“Nothing was "cut", it was the plan. How is it "cut" if it was in the plan?”

If the plan was to cut it, then content is still getting cut even if it’s planned.

“...why is it wrong to evaluate how much money something is costing and distribute how its sold to customers to keep it from losing money?”

Well, that’s just smart. There’s nothing wrong with evaluating how much something cost to make and aptly pricing it.

“Would you rather they just release it and go bankrupt?”

These companies aren’t even close to becoming bankrupt thanks to all the features they include in their games to get every last cent out of us.

“Trying to retroactively pin some sort of "cut" based on how you feel.”

Saying “I feel” is merely other wording for in my opinion. However, if you want proof of content being cut, look at the latest Assasin’s Creed Origins ad. It blatantly told us a mission was being locked unless we preordered the game. Now look at Valentia which had a season pass more than the full price of the game on the same day of its launch with subsequent missions and maps which should have been in the game. Now look at Warriors which has DLC releasing a month after its launch that’s already priced and annoucning what’s in it. Once again, informing us on DLC isn’t bad, but when you do it the same day of a game’s release, it is.

Re: There'll be a Free Fire Emblem Warriors Japanese Voice Pack to Download

@aaronsullivan I just feel that it’s wrong to do. DLC should be worked on after a game’s development, not during. Also, releasing it a week or so afterwards (or on launch day like they did with Valentia) is cutting content. What they’re doing now may be releasing a month afterwards, but it’s already planned out and priced, giving off a very high possibility that content has been cut. The game looks great, but I’m staying the heck away from the disgusting DLC.

@maceng

While that is all too true, I still think that those who aren't fanboys would prefer a full game to be released instead of an unfinished one.

Re: Review: NBA 2K18 (Switch)

@HeroponRiki 2K made this game, not EA.

As for my own thoughts, the game should be judged on its release, not three weeks afterward where you allow the developers to take their merry old time to fix a game which was already broken at launch. I hate scores, especially in this case considering how the game has (had) a lot of bugs and is terrible with the microtransactions (admittedly in my opinion) and still gets an 8/10, though it is based on the reviewer's opinion, so I can't criticize too harshly there. Still, a bit surprising and too 'nice' in my opinion once again.
