@Kyloctopus
So far, I've only seen videos that show you can do pointless things (which can't hold anyone's attention for too long) and nothing else. I have yet to see anything worth doing in the game, just a bunch of gags nintendo thought would be funny. The thing is though, you're paying full price for those gags, and they're going to lose charm very quickly.

I remember the original cartoon for the Hobbit in 1977. It was such a great one, and I remember being really excited for the new Peter Jackson take on the book. After seeing both movies, I'm not excited for the next one.

Re: Monster Hunter Team Discusses Continuing Evolution and Growth of the Franchise

@ted-k Capturing is my preferred method of hunting for several reasons, among those being that it's quicker, safer, and you get more rewards. When a trap doesn't work when I placed it down and a monster flees the area, it makes me upset. If you can't pick up traps after using them, you should at least be able to destroy traps or place multiple traps down. What's the reasoning behind only being allowed to place down one trap anyways?

@ollietaro
"That's not a game glitch."
Did I ever say that? You can't control the enemy AI, nor where the enemy AI goes either, and that's okay. HOWEVER, if my chances of winning a mission are completely out of my control when I set a trap down, that isn't okay.

"It just adds the extra challenge of making sure to trap the monster before it leaves. And if it does, you can still try to dung bomb it back into the area."
BS. Challenge of placing a trap then having a monster completely ignore it? Challenge of hoping the monster leaves into the right area when you dung-bomb it? Dung bombs are not a viable solution. Also, if it really is a challenge, you should be able to lay more than one down. as it is now, placing a trap is incredibly tedious because the enemy AI is poop.
@ted-k
"definitely intentional and part of the challenge of the game. "
I pointed out why capturing doesn't work as a challenge in this post, as well as others. Read it again if you want.

"When the monster starts limping you have to wait for it to go to another area, then go to that area and place your trap and lure the monster to the trap by standing with the trap between you and the monster."
You see, That's exactly what I do. I don't place the trap in the same area where he starts limping because it takes too long to set a trap, and he usually walks right by it. So I place the trap in the next area, and I stand behind it, luring the monster to this spot. this only works most if the time, however. I've placed a trap in an area that he moved to, and he completely ignored me and went along to another area. other times, It does come to me, but the hatbox for traps is very specific, and if he is pixels away from the center, it won't work. I've had occasions where he walked oh so very close to the center but didn't, then limped away to the next area.

"Forget about the dung bomb method. I don't think it's an effective solution."
It isn't but it's the only option remaining when a monster leaves.

@Iggly like I said, I use dung bombs, and I always have 10 in my pouch. I'm in High Rank and I'm not an idiot either (they're pretty much required if you want to go anywhere in High Rank without being assaulted by Jho). Like I said before though, I've had it happen where I wasted all 10 on one Rathian and she didn't even go to the right area in time for me to cap her. Dung Bombs aren't %100 full-proof.

Re: Monster Hunter Team Discusses Continuing Evolution and Growth of the Franchise

HappyHappyist

@PrincessEevee9 it doesn't matter how many traps i bring (i always have 2 and combines for more) because the traps don't go away for i think 5-10 minutes. That's time wasted, and depending on how much time is remaining, it may or may not ruin the mission for you if it's a capture quest.
@Funny_Moblin i've considered that, and I've decided that explanation does not work.
exhibit A: The pitfall mask allows you to signal the shakalaka to place a pitfall trap. however, if you signal it again, you can take the trap up and reuse it later. If strategy were in mind, you probably wouldn't be able to take the trap up just like the regular ones.

exhibit B: If strategy is the idea, then using dung bombs is the most logical thing to do if you need to get a monster to a certain area, right? That idea goes so far. I placed a trap for my Rathian, then she leaves the area. So I then try to hit her with bombs to make her leave to the right area. I throw every single bomb at her (all 10), and not a single one made her go to the right area. If the monster leaves the area and you don't have enough time to wait for the trap to disappear before time clears, you're screwed.

exhibit C: If you have an extra trap, you should be able to lay it down, but you can't if another is already on the field. You aren't allowed to have 2 traps out at once, which REALLY blows. If a monster leaves the area, I should NOT be condemned to failure because I can only place one at a time and time is almost run out. What's the point of carrying multiple traps if you can't have more than one out?

Re: Monster Hunter Team Discusses Continuing Evolution and Growth of the Franchise

MH3U has lots of problems, and I'd like to see them addressed. The first one I can think of is the way traps work. Once you set one down, you're committed to it, which really sucks because if the monster leaves the area, too bad because you can't take the trap back up and place it somewhere else (this is a major problem because it has failed me many quests for failing to capture). It shouldn't be that hard to fix.

@JaxonH
What did we learn about Smash? several things! Sakurai is posting daily game pictures on miiverse, giving dedicated Nintendo Directs and several roster updates. What did we get for X? a trailer. What did we get from Bayo2? a trailer. What did we get from Yarn Yoshi? nothing since announcement. SMT x FE? nothing since announcement.

@siavm
just my unpopular opinion. I have no expectations for Nintendo to woo me this E3 because they haven't done that in a long time, so I'm not one of those awful, "They better do a good job at E3 or I'll sell my WiiU" people, because I love my WiiU, I've stuck with it since launch and games have come. Lately though, they've been focussing mostly on Smash, which is bugging me personally because It makes me think that's their last big gun. If they'd just show more games for everyone, that'd be great. Bayo 2 and X look nice, but we're not seeing that, we're only getting Smash.

Re: Nintendo Lifts The Lid On Its Plans For E3 2014

HappyHappyist

Is it wrong that I don't care for Smash? I've played Brawl at a friend's house, and Nintendo has a bunch of other smash games on older systems. If I want to play smash, I'll buy it on my gamecube or wii. That said, they're focusing a LOT on smash, and I'm starting to worry that's all they will have to show. I want more games, maybe some new IPs (knowing nintendo, that's not happening), not another smash game.

I refuse to take my money to Gamestop anymore, and money's tight for someone who just moved out of the Parents' house (ahem). Unfortunately that means i shouldn't be getting this game to begin with, but anyone who drives and is getting this game anyway should take this deal. free gas is better than a useless trinket (cough)@Bolt_Strike (cough).

@3dcaleb
like i said before, if you're a newb (like i was for MH3U), then it may be difficult to pick up because the game has a slow start. you start the game with gathering missions, which aren't fun. trust me though, they're necessary, because you need to know the mechanics of the game, and this is the best way to teach you before fighting monsters. when you actually do start fighting monsters though, you start really small.

so again, the beginning is really slow, but give the game time.
soon, you'll be fighting larger than life monsters, and you might even be scared of some of them! you'll learn to think like a hunter and always be prepared. you'll learn the behavior of monsters and apply them in battle! and if hunting monsters isn't enough for you, you can fight in an arena with special supplies/materials (which also nets you special rewards)! before you can do any of that though, you'll just need to stick it through the beginning to wait until the truly amazing stuff happens. this game will steal your life if you're willing to give it the time.

@3dcaleb
i was in the exact same boat as you before i bought MH3U. honestly, if you aren't familiar with MH and how the game plays, (like i was), then you won't like the demo. i didn't. then i bought the game after watching some reviews and gameplay/beginner videos. and honestly, i can not stop playing MH3U. ever since i bought it, i come home from school, do my homework, and spend the rest of the day fighting monsters. this has been going on for MONTHS. and i'm not even tired of it yet!
at the very least, buy the game used, that way you have a warranty. if you don't like it, return it. but honestly, the game starts kinda slow for new players. you're new to the series, so you need to be slowly dropped into the experience, and the game does a good job of that. just play through the beginning, look up anything you need to know online (with a game like this, there's no shame, don't worry ), and you should be fine. if you need help, play online with experts (voice chat makes things easy to communicate)!

Re: Cave Story is Finally Coming to the 3DS eShop in Europe and Australia

@3dcaleb me personally, i prefer the 16-bit style graphics over the [imo] ugly models in the retail version. The download version is quite gorgeous, and I think worth the price of admission alone.
The additional content is a great bonus, but i honestly didn't touch it that much, just me though. Like GeminiSaint said ^^^above me there, they're incredibly difficult. if you like bonus content in games, you might have spend lots of time though, but i'm not one for things like "challenge mode" or "boss gauntlet." if you are, you'll have a ball.

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

HappyHappyist

a shame people can't marry who they want to marry, in real life and in the game. if you're heterosexual, don't play gay in the game and you should be fine. i don't care what you are, but if someone else's sexual preference gets in they way of your enjoyment of a game, sorry, but i do not like you. let me play the game i want to, i'll let you play the game the way you want to. simple as that. it only becomes a problem when you people try shoving your beliefs onto eachother.
