Re: A Link Between Worlds Early Japanese Sales Surpass Ocarina of Time 3D

@ultimate321 i don't know how how many times i've said it, but ALBW is broken. i liked the game at first, then i realized how broken it was. Spirit tracks is FAR superior. sure, its a LOT shorter, heck, the dungeons are some of the easiest in the franchise, but the game sticks with you. the characters are actually memorable and 3-dimensional, the story is more than just "save the princess," it doesn't rely on a fan favorite zelda game as a crutch.

i'd call ALBW anything but a "perfect" sequel. it has SEVERAL problems, many of which are game breaking. the renting system is broken because the game is so easy, the dungeons are far too simple, and the item upgrades are mostly pointless.

Re: Nintendo Open To Applying Zelda: Link Between Worlds Approach To Other Franchises

@LDXD
here, i'll break it down:

  • the renting system; everything was FAR FAR FAR too cheap. as soon as i was given the option to rent an item, i was able to rent every single item right off the bat. and when i was given the option to buy things, i was able to do that, right after Ravio told me i could.
  • why is it so easy to farm rupees? enemies rain thousands of rupees when you kill them. there are ways to make TONS of money in minigames. dungeons have them everywhere. if you had trouble finding money in this game, you're playing the game wrong. Nintendo made extra sure that the players could find thousands of rupees in one hour (i collected over 4000 in one hour, for instance).
  • so those last two bullets, they are next to eachother so that i can emphasize that its too easy to get money, and because the items are so easy to rent (and buy), its pretty much pointless having them up for sale since they're so easy to buy (with all this $$).
  • the game is also FAR FAR FAR too easy! seriously, i never came close to dying in this game because its so easy. and because its so easy, it pretty much makes the entire renting mechanic pointless. i say this because since there was no risk in dying, there was no risk in losing my rented items. since there is no risk in losing items, you really have no reason to buy items other than the upgrades (speaking of upgrades...)
  • the upgrades are LAME. the only thing they do is make the weapon stronger, and since the enemies go down so easily, that's a useless upgrade. there's nothing in the game that requires you to use a specific upgraded item, which would have made a great incentive to upgrade. overall, minus the bow and ice rod upgrades, everything is pretty dull since the upgrades only make a weapon stronger. there is no incentive to upgrade weapons.
  • there is no reason to hunt the MaiMai things. there are hidden horrible, and as previously mentioned, there is no reason to upgrade anyway.
  • the dungeons are the worst part about this game, sadly. they are too easy and too short. that might not sound too bad on paper, but its as if they put no thought into the dungeons. even though you have access to every item almost at the very beginning of the game, each dungeon only focusses on only one or two items. think about that for a minute. they had the potential to make some of the best and most complex puzzles in a zelda game, but because they limited themselves to one or two items, they fell below par. FAR below par.

this is most of the reasons the game is bad. its late at the time of writing this, and this is all without notes, so i am leaving things out. ultimately, the game is broken.

tl;dr despite having access to every item in the game at the very beginning of the game, nintendo never thought about how that could impact the game. it's too easy to buy every item in the game very early because the items are incredibly cheap and its ridiculously easy to find rupees. there's no reason to buy items because the upgrades suck and because the game is too easy. the dungeons are some of the worst in a zelda game because no thought for puzzles was put into mind when creating them.

people complain about games like this being "NES hard." they really aren't that hard if you have a decent amount of patience and reasonable intelligence. in reality, this game, Ghosts n' Goblins, and Battle Kid are not nearly as hard as the internet has portrayed them to be.
blue blue.

"its crazy @theonehacker spoke my thoughts before I even had the chance to write them straight down to the examples I used."

if i may, going off of the LotR example, i'd like to say that i felt totally un-immersed in both of The Hobbit movies. compared to the original LotR trilogy (keep in mind the original trilogy and Hobbit trilogy are being directed by the same guy, Peter Jackson), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the recent The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug movies felt totally plastic and fake because of the amount of CGI effects. The Hobbit movies used a lot of CGI effects, and nothing felt real at all, shattering the immersion. The amount of practical effects in the original trilogy was astounding and made everything feel so alive and real, i could feel myself walking in Middle-Earth. in the Hobbit movies, almost everything has been remade with computers, and nothing feels real at all, everything is just plastic.

i do not understand how realistic graphics can defeat the purpose of fantasy. for me, the more realistic a fantasy game looks, the more immersed in it i become. take for example, while watching The Lord of the Rings, because the movie was shot in live action, and because they used real sets and filmed in real places in New Zealand, i was incredibly immersed, because i could imagine myself there. I felt more immersed in Twilight Princess than in Wind Waker because, although i like Wind Waker's minimalist art style, i felt more immersed in Twilight Princess because the graphic style was Realistic, even if some of the textures were't perfect. I could see myself in the world of TP because it looked real enough for me to see myself in. Wind Waker is a cartoon, and i cannot see myself in a cartoon.
tl:dr version - realistic graphics help one become immersed in a game, which is the point of having an over world to explore (like Zelda does).

personally, i've watched this trailer, and a bit of Dynasty Warriors gameplay, and...i am probably not going to pick this up. it looks boring. why is everyone so excited for this? its just hacking away at a bunch of mindless AI, where's the challenge?

@JestermanX
False. i had never played this game until last year. as a matter of fact, it is among the first few zelda games i played (the very first is spirit tracks). but i can honestly say, this game is among my favorite games of all time, and i have no nostalgia to even have with this game. it's good simply because its a good game, no amount of nostalgia changes that.

and if we're talking about Nostalgia being the only reason a game is good, then it'd be smarter to bring up OoT.

Re: Former Naughty Dog And THQ Head Jason Rubin Says Nintendo Is "Irrelevant" In The Hardware Arena

he has a point. no one ever buys nintendo consoles to play those crappy third party games! they buy nintendo consoles to play nintendo games! i'd be just as happy playing nintendo games on PS4 or X1, but as it is now, the only way to play nintendo games is on nintendo consoles, which is bogus for me, because i have to shell out extra $$ for their console. its better for my wallet if they just went third party. there is no reason to buy a nintendo home console for anything other than a nintendo game. any other game is usually a gigantic crap stain on the system.

(with the exception of the original star-wars games and the wiiU lego city game) YES YES YES YES YES YES i stopped buying lego games a while ago, but i still have lego star-wars. nowadays, lego games are just made with no heart.

aside, i loved the LOTR movies, hated the lego game. this time, i hated the Hobbit movie, and i'm scared for the hobbit game. (shudders)
