Re: Zavvi's 20th Anniversary Pokémon Pokébox Is Now Available For Preorder

GauBan

Not one to put down on a subscription but willing to pay for a one off. At £30 even if it's tat I'll just do an un-boxing video and web post it gives me something to post. At least this is dedicated to one franchise other than LootCrate and other which can be a massive mis-mash of tat they had lying around.

Also I'm a sucker for anything Pokemon and Nintendo related.

Re: Brand New Pokémon To Be Revealed By Japanese Magazine CoroCoro

GauBan

This would seem to be the first Gen 7 Pokemon. As I doubt it would be patched into the 6th Gen (Not that they shouldn't be able to). But as we've already seen with the data mining of Pokemon like Hoopa they've been on cart since launch.

Also it's looks like it has a starter feel to it. a Fire Rabbit maybe?

Either way I would like to see Pokemon Z before Gen 7 as I feel it will close off this generation with the logical conclusion.

Re: 3DS System Update 10.5.0-30 is Now Available

GauBan

@Cooroxd yes you are correct of that Nintendo will try to stop people using firmwares that are exploited by a forced update. Same for Sony and Microsoft.

But why didn't they do it with 10.4? Or could that 10.4 was a forced update but then changed to be optional once the issues with SD card started to appear. Then they brought out 10.5 and returned to the forced update..

Re: 3DS System Update 10.5.0-30 is Now Available

GauBan

@Cooroxd Having a little look the listed changed for 10.50 (From a "devolpment" point of view) also included a change to RomFS:/dummt.txt
and change of digital certificates from "VeriSign" to "CyberTrust"

10.4 on the other hand did remove the Memchunkhax2 exploit

Re: 3DS System Update 10.5.0-30 is Now Available

GauBan

This firmware update that was released today is to resolve the possible SD card corruption issue..

They've made it a forced update to ensure that people don't spend to long on 10.4 and run the risk of corruption.

Re: Yes, You Can Scan The Shovel Knight amiibo While It's Still In Its Box

GauBan

@StarDust4Ever Checked mine today.
1) Yep my US ones don't have paperwork inside them. Gold & Silver Marios. All my UK and my Japanese Family Robot ones all have paperwork inside.

2) My Shovel Knight does scan in box with everything (New 3DS, Wii U, 3DS NFC adapter & phone I use for n2).

3) However I have tested my opened box Pikachu which I removed the foil from. That doesn't read with my New 3DS if it's in box with the paperwork in the way. But it does read with everything else.

Re: Yes, You Can Scan The Shovel Knight amiibo While It's Still In Its Box

GauBan

Yeah I noticed when my Shovel Knight turned up. He is also lacking the paper work that a Nintendo Amiibo comes with. Not that it bothers me as all my Amiibo are still in box.

I have have an extra Pikachu which I opened to test the foil removing method but it still did too much damage to the box for my liking.

One thing that I need to test is does the shovel Knight Amiibo work in the box on a New 3DS. I've found that the New 3DS has a weak NFC reader and couldn't make it's way through the Amiibo box and manual. The Wii U and 3DS NFC Reader unit has no problems.

Re: Review: Yo-Kai Watch (3DS)

GauBan

Yokai Watch is an enjoyable fun game with loads of style. Yes there is a load of things which got fix with the second game(s) that people might prefer which is one resons why some throught it was strange that Nintendo released the first game rather than jumping to the second as they could have editied the story to remove all reference to the first adventure, which is pretty much the odd bit of recap.

However the fact the game is comming out in US and EU is great. With luck this will do well enought that we'll see the second one at the end of next year.

However this again is one of those games with a very Japanese game and from reviews (like this one) doesn't seem to really shine with that many reviewers in the west. The same problem as Chibi-Robo and Little Battlers eXperience.

Re: Weirdness: Bowser Bummed by Skylanders amiibo Tie-in

GauBan

Last night I offered them $1 then £1 for the fault item. They accepted my offer and then negated selling it to a staff member instead. I'm in the mindset that I need to complain to their head office over such disgusting treatment of a customer ;p

Re: This Is The Last Real Console Cycle, Proclaims Industry Analyst Michael Pachter

GauBan

@OneBagTravel Close it's spelt ANALlyst. LOL.

Anyway joke fisihed. Being an analyst is a strange job, becasuse your trying to predict the future of something while infact if you are trusted your opions can shape the future. Because companies listen to these people and therefor work towards the future they predicted in cover the expected public needs.

Will he prediciton come try? maybe but that will only be if gamers using dedicated hardware declines or if PC gaming becomes more easy for everyone to enter (Lots of people keep clear as they don't want to mess about with installing cards etc), Where you don't need to worry about the box you have as it is guarenteed to run the game you put into/download onto it.

Like a console does.

Maybe it will be like the 80's again where companies make versions of the same box.

Re: Man Goes On Quest To Buy Every Single amiibo In Australia In 24 Hours

GauBan

I've not had any problem getting all the Amiibos in the UK. I've also got the Gold and Silver Marios from the US for retail price (plus shipping). But I've always pre-ordered or used online so there have been no problems. But I also keep an eye on local retailers and yes trying to get all the Amiibos that way is never gonna work as stores don't want to give enough shelf space to Amiibos.

My only "issue" is waiting for Japanese exporters to put up pre-orders for the Family Robot Amiibo. Yes I'm getting the R.O.B. version but also Want the Family Robot version as 1) It will mean a true complete set 2) I own a Famicom Robot rather than a R.O.B.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

@FireFrog4 LOL, A true Nintendo Fan would know that none of those things were pirate devices, bar possibly the FlashBoy+ which is widely accepted by the VB community and where you need to go to get one. Even Daz here owns one and was using it at the gaming night the other month to run Hyper Fighting.

As for pirated games I don't own any. But I do have a large collection of games and consoles from different regions, another thing which can be seen as illegal.

Yes I am a Nintendo fan and this is why I own the items I have.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

@FireFrog4 No not the Wii U as you play the game on the media the data was originally provided on. PS4 and Xbox One is another matter. But this all depends on how a judge reads wording of the law.

As for my ownership of an Amiiqo.I am very happy to have access to my Amiibos without opening the boxes and can take all of them anywhere. I'll have it in my collection along with my homebrewed Wii, Wii U, Universal Adapters for SNES and N64, multiple Action Replays, Game Genies,Freeloaders, region free loader disks and FlashBoy+.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

@FireFrog4 different colour shoes are not a necessity but things like that is being sold as DLC on games and people are paying for it. People may want to use that feature, article of clothing and not wanting to pay the $14 or higher if scalpers are involved. It just seems clear to me that it wouldn't be hard for Nintendo to offer a Amiibo costume pack for games that use them. But then also if they had a cheaper option for getting the Amiibo NFC data, Amiibo cards at $2.00 each or even a $10.00 for a series then people would get them. From a legal point the Amiiqo is only "guilty" of releasing the first edition of Amiiqo with 10 characters installed. To make and sell these is not illegal as long as they don't have copyright material on them. ie buy it blank and then put your own Amiibos on it, Where you get them from is up to you.

@thatguyEZ Problem is that a lot of people look at something which can be used for "illegal" activates and say "That's illegal, burn it with fire." But these people would have to destroy their phones/computers if they transferred music from a CD to it as that is now technically illegal in the UK. In some areas of law around the world it would be illegal to download a show on the iPlayer to play offline on your mobile device using the same software as you've copied the it from it's original distributed source.

Besides I really don't think Nintendo have too much to worry about. Most people have Amiibos just for the collection and are not really bothered about using them in game. Also the Amiiqo is not being advertised on TV, the main press and even here a dedicated Nintendo site has only had a couple of articles. They are going to sell a reasonably small number of units compared to Amiibos in general. Lets be honest people who use Amiiqo without owning any Amiibos to use the digital content would try to get access to the content however they could.

The real issue will be when people get 1000 NFC tags for $20 and start making 3D printed copies and selling them off on eBay. Do we need to destroy all 3D printers, NFC devices & eBay for the same reason why people are criticising Amiiqo? Oh wait https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/06/fake_amiibo_figures_spotted_in_the_wild

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

@Token_Girl The version 2 of Amiiqo (Same device but newer firmware out of the box) doesn't come with any Amiibo figure data stored on it.

@FireFrog4 While not mandatory the only ways to have a second Yoshi in Woolly World to help is either a) have someone else play with you b) pay for a woolly Yoshi Amiibo. And the only way to get the extra gear/maps in Splatoon, buy the Amiibos.

Now if Nintnedo offered these bits maybe as DLC for 99p instead of figure price then I'm sure some people would be happy.

For me I now have an Amiiqo and am happy to use it. But I have only got the Amiibo figures Super Smsah, Super Mario, Yoshi's Woolly World and Splatoon as I own all these but don't want to take them out of the boxes. Also The Amiiqo is a lot smaller than a large collection of Amiibos and there for easier to carry around. Because I want to use Amiibos on the go on either my UK New 3DS or my Japanese 3DS LL with the NFC reader unit.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

I've seen people here and in other press saying that this will lead to pirated Amiibos being sold, by which I mean fake figures. Not really the Amiiqo is $60 - $80 which is far more than the cost of an NFC tag which could be written to handle Amiibo data.

Amiiqo is a solution to a problem that Nintendo were not willing/wanting to deal with.
1) Amiibos have a limit of one piece of data per figure.
2) There is no way to back up the figure data if you want to write data from another game
3) Not been my experience due to early pre-orders but people complain about stock shortages. Remember Nintendo didn't restock the Squid Amiibo in the UK after the truck load for Game got stolen
4) They didn't really secure the Amiibo technology, which is why many people including Amiiqo have been able to rip data from the tags.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

GauBan

I ordered an Amiiqo at the weekend from the only UK listed supplier who has a secure website. All the others either didn't use SSL or had faulty certificates.

My reason is so that I can use the Amiibo characters I've brought without taking them out of the box.
The way I see it is if you already own the Amiibo but don't want to open up the box or worry about carrying around a massive amount of figures. If Nintendo brought out Amiibo cards for all current and future Amiibos I wouldn't brought Amiiqo. But there is no sign of them and I want to use the Ammiibos I've already brought.

Re: The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With the 'amiiqo' Device

GauBan

What did Nintendo think would happen?

They struggle to keep stock all the time. Then there is the "adult children" like myself who collect without the desire to open/trash the packaging of our Amiibo collection. I'vebeen saying since launch that I would pay, a reduced price, for cards of all the Amiibos which I own so I can keep them in their boxes.

Amiibo cards also make more sense for people who want to use Amiibos on the go. A stack of cards is easier to carry than a load of figures which can get damaged.

As for this? If no Amiibo cards for existing figures appear I might get this just I can use the Amiibo characters I already own.

Re: Video: Say Hello To The SNES Game Which Ships Inside A Game Boy Cartridge

GauBan

@AG_Awesome Space Invaders arcade mode has multi player butat that point it's running the SNES ROM. Street Fighter 2 and Killer Instinct have muultiplayer when played on an SGB.

The region lock on Space Invaders must be using the region lock used later in the SNES life. I did some tests with my UK version. The region warning comes up if I use my PAL SGB on my Super Famicom Jr. Usin a Universal Adaptor. Also if I just my SGB2 on the Super Famicom Jr. and if I use my SGB2 on my PAL SNES using the Universal Adaptor

Re: Video: Say Hello To The SNES Game Which Ships Inside A Game Boy Cartridge

GauBan

@Gridatttack but the Game Boy Player is a GBA so it treats Game Boy games as a GBC/GBA does. This means you don't get all the extra Super Game Boy features like the extra colours, boaders, better sound etc.

This is one reason why Hyperkin updated the Retron 5 to treat Game Boy games as if it was being run on a Super Game Boy instead of GBA.

Re: Video: Say Hello To The SNES Game Which Ships Inside A Game Boy Cartridge

GauBan

@JDavis I don't remember UK getting a SNES version of Space Invaders. I think they just releaed the GameBoy version. I do seem to remember the GB version did have multiplayer on Super Game Boy. Might have to throw it into one of my SGBs tonight to check. Because multiplayer was on some GBA enhanced games like Street Fighter II.

But then again you could always play multiplayer on the SNES nromal games if you have a Super Game Boy 2 with it's link lead port.

Side note I prefer the Japanese box art as it's the same on the Virtual Boy game.

Re: Video: We Get To Grips With F-Zero Inspired New Nintendo 3DS Racer Lifespeed

GauBan

@Chaoz @6ch6ris6 Even though eveywhere says it's only for New 3DS I thingk the devs mightbe bringing bring it out on original 3DS.

I played it at the Gaming Night and was chatting to the person showing it off, who was the wife of the developer, and I surgested using the New 3DS C-stick as a way to give some extra control to the weapons which are indepentent to the craft control. She said that one of the reasons for not is becuase most people don't have the C-Stick,or Circle ProPad.

This would surgest it being on original 3DS aswell. Again not confirmed but it would surgest.

But that aside it was fun to play and easy to control and feels more like corridor sections of StarFox as you have control over elovation aswell as side-to-side but within a narrow space.

Re: Anniversary: The Virtual Boy Is 20 Years Old Today

GauBan

I still play my Virtual Boy.

It's a very underrated console because people don't realise that they have to adjust the view to fit them, this stops headaches. Like the DreamCast it still has a devoted community and people who still develop for it.

Re: Matters Of Import: Take A Guided Tour Of Super Potato, The Ultimate Retro Gaming Paradise

GauBan

I go to Super Potato whenever I'm in Japan and as I tend to base myself in Tokyo it means I hit Akihabara most. But I've also been to Osaka multiple times.

While Super Potato is brilliant it does suffer from it's own success. Due to being world know among retro gamers the prices have been increasing year on year even items which are common and they have in large amounts. It just seems that just because foreign people are shopping.

TBH my preferred shopping in Japan has shifted to a number of less known stores in Tokyo and Osaka. In these stores I've managed to get some great deals like the AsciiWare GameCube keyboard boxed and complete for £10. I also got hold of the Japanese only F-Zero Climax for GBA for around the same price. Famicom GB Micro for a very good price, a complete Famicom Robot with complete Robot Blocks and Robot Gyro sets. Oh and copies of Virtual Bowling, SD Gundam and Virtual Labs for Virtual Boy also in as new condition.
