Re: Bandai Namco Localising Two Sword Art Online Games For Switch

FlimFlam

I don’t like this anime, but I want to make an LP of this series for the novelty of making a web series about a video game about an anime about a video game. Alternatively, I might play the game while watching the anime and listening to an audio version of the light novel to maximize my hate output.

In all seriousness, I've heard good things about the games, so I’ll keep an eye on them.

Re: Ubisoft Has Halted Development Of Steep On Nintendo Switch

FlimFlam

@GrailUK "We're thrilled to announced that, just like with Steep, we are stopping production on Switch entirely! We believe that this offers our fans the greatest number of options. We would like to invite fans to keep playing anywhere, anytime inside the living room. This was all made possible because of our excellent relationship with Nintendo, one that rivals the previously unprecedented relationship they have with EA."

Re: Zelda-Inspired Action Adventure Sikanda Is Making Its Way To The Switch

FlimFlam

@Stefan-DG Hey! It’s great to have you in the site. I have a couple questions for you:

1. Besides Zelda, what other series have you all used for inspiration for this game?
2. What aspects of this game are you going to focus on the most (combat, puzzles, music, story, etc.)?
3. What’s your favorite Zelda game?

Good luck with your game and Square Enix Collective bid!

Re: Octopath Traveler Ships One Million Copies Worldwide In Just Three Weeks

FlimFlam

@Agramonte I’m just curious, why do you say Capcom hasn’t been trying with the Switch? Recently, they have brought or will bring Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, the Mega Man collections, Okami HD, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and they’ll release Mega Man 11 as a day-and-date multiplat in October. It’s not amazing, but it’s much better than some other publishers have done on Switch. Again, I don’t want to argue with you, I’m just curious.

Re: Nintendo Under Fire For Not Improving Supply Lines And Sourcing Minerals From Conflict Zones

FlimFlam

@Elvie Don’t worry, you definitely did not seem indifferent to others. The tough thing about this is that just by living we contribute to the problem. Just buying a T-shirt supports a complicated supply chain that includes poorly paid workers in sweatshops and environmentally-unfriendly practices. I can see from your profile that we are fellow Americans. Unfortunately for us, conservation and human rights abuses abroad don’t seem to get much attention nowadays from our government. So, in addition to donating and petitioning the government, I would recommend helping candidates who align with your values win office. You can do that through donating to or volunteering for their campaigns.

Also, can you give me the links you found about how this issue affects the Bonobo? I would really like to learn more.

Re: Nintendo Under Fire For Not Improving Supply Lines And Sourcing Minerals From Conflict Zones

FlimFlam

@Elvie I agree that we should talk about it, but just for Nintendo feels like too small a scale. Nintendo is certainly in the wrong and needs to change their actions, but other companies need to do so as well. This is an issue that affects many products, and the video game industry is only a small part of that. In my opinion, we should pressure our governments to place stricter regulations on this. That’s the only way to stop companies from taking unethical routes with their products.

Good job to Microsoft and Apple for doing well btw.

EDIT: To clarify what I mean, I think we should put pressure on Nintendo to act more ethically, but we should also do the same for every company that chooses to ignore these problems.

Re: Nintendo Has Sold 19.67 Million Switch Consoles To Date

FlimFlam

These are pretty good numbers. I know that Year-on-Year the hardware sales are down slightly for the quarter, but couldn't that be in large part due to April 2017 having a launch hype sales rush? In any case, software sales are extremely impressive, and that will hopefully persuade 3rd parties to invest more heavily in Switch development.

Re: Review: WarioWare Gold (3DS)

FlimFlam

@jn2002dk The fun in WarioWare comes from the variety and speed at which you go through the microgames. The individual microgames themselves are not all that fun or challenging. The enjoyment comes from having to playing microgames in rapid succession. You have to first identify what the objective of the game is, then complete the game, and then prepare for the next game all within about 5 seconds or less. It's just hectic, crazy fun.

EDIT: The microgames also often use features on the consoles in unusual and creative ways, creating some unique experiences. Gamer from Game and Wario on Wii U, for example, had you play microgames on the Gamepad while simultaneously checking the screen to make sure you weren't caught staying awake. Smooth Moves on the Wii had you use the Wii Remote in a variety of positions.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Version 1.2.0 Adds The Much-Wanted Mission Retry Feature And More

FlimFlam

@Mutsukki Thank you so much for this. I was really confused as to why it would only be added to Swing mode. I thought that it would surely be added to other modes as well, but, based on some of the weird decisions Camelot has made with this game, I had some doubts. Now that I know that having a 6 game set is an option for Free mode and not just Swing mode, this update feels much better.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Version 1.2.0 Adds The Much-Wanted Mission Retry Feature And More

FlimFlam

If you can set a normal match to 6 games for one set (and, if it’s added to Swing mode, it should be added to the rest of the modes... hopefully) you could just play multiple matches to simulate more sets. That would be a way to add customization to how you want to play although changing the number of sets really should just be in the game naturally.

In any case, this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully they’ll address the other issues people have with the game. I still find it strange that Camelot perfected the mechanics of a tennis game but could not find the time to make a proper court select screen.

Re: Capcom’s Latest Financial Report Reveals Record-Breaking First Quarter

FlimFlam

“The report also briefly touched on the future - with an aim to spread diverse digital content while making reference to the Japanese release of the Nintendo Switch title, Resident Evil 7: biohazard Cloud Version.”

That’s kind of vague... was it a positive or negative reference to RE7?

Anyways, good for Capcom. I hope they continue to support the Switch as excellently as they have in the past few months.

Re: Wall Street Analyst Warns Of Slowing Nintendo Switch Sales

FlimFlam

To those saying that Smash doesn’t sell consoles because it didn’t “save” the N64, the GCN, and the Wii U, I want to point out that 3D Mario games were also on those consoles. So, going by your logic, Super Mario Odyssey did not sell Switches.

Also, having a lot of Wii U ports is really good for Switch sales. It would be a different story if the Wii U had sold better, but, since it did not, these are basically new and very good games to most people.

Re: Review: Guts and Glory (Switch eShop)

FlimFlam

@Cobalt The word play is called a spoonerism. You switch the beginning sound of two words to create two different words with an entirely different meaning. If it's not done on accident, it's usually done for comedic effect. The example Wikipedia gives is "The Lord is a loving shepherd" vs. "The Lord is a shoving leopard."

And, yes, the spoonerism in the subtitle is quite inappropriate.

Re: Dragon Ball FighterZ Will Have 1v1 And 2v2 Game Modes On Switch, Open Beta Test Coming Too

FlimFlam

Great news although hopefully those extra modes will be released on other consoles too. I remember back in January people online were using the lack of Switch releases of this game and MHW as proof that the Switch was struggling. Now that DBFZ is getting a Switch release, I expect this to occur:

Leading up to launch, we will be inundated with comparisons between the Switch and XBONE X versions (because that's fair). There will be two different groups in the comment sections: one that says they can't see any difference and one that complains about resolution. When the weekly sales charts come out, the Switch version will place in the 5-10 range on most of them. Initial sales will be lower than they were on PS4 and XBONE. This will lead to more discussion, with one group saying that 3rd parties "just don't sell" on Nintendo platforms with another arguing that it would of course do worse as it came out later than the other versions and wondering how well it would do if it was a simultaneous release. A few months later, Bandai Namco will say that the game sold sold well without releasing sales numbers, leading to an argument on what exactly that means. Some will claim that Bandai is lying, while others will believe the company. Eventually, a 3rd group will arise that will assert that Nintendo doesn't really care about how well 3rd party games do and is perfectly content with being a secondary console. Then, Bandai Namco will release another game on Switch, and the cycle will repeat.

tl;dr Comment sections are a little predictable

Re: Octopath Traveler Smashes Its Way To Number One In Japan By A Huge Margin

FlimFlam

Thank you for the Japanese charts! Anyways, great numbers for Octopath. It did not do quite as well BD in its opening week, but it did slightly outsell End Layer. Captain Toad outperformed its Wii U release, which is particularly impressive since it was released on Wii U in November, a much more important sales month. Overall, a great week for Switch.

Re: Switch Game Sales Make Up Five Percent Of Ubisoft’s Total Earnings In Record First-Quarter

FlimFlam

@KIRO Just to add to your point, it's not just a userbase thing. Ubisoft has a much bigger catalogue of older games on the other platforms. They still get revenue from games they released in 2013-2016 that for the most part aren't on Switch. That's a sizable list of games from which to receive steady sales. Granted, they don't receive as much revenue from those games as they did upon release, but those games could still make up a decent chunk of their income.

So, considering that the Switch's catalogue of Ubisoft games is much smaller and that the Switch currently has the lowest install base of the 3 major consoles, accounting for 5% of Ubisoft's revenue isn't bad.

Re: Switch Game Sales Make Up Five Percent Of Ubisoft’s Total Earnings In Record First-Quarter

FlimFlam

@OorWullie Don't forget the fact that Stick of Truth was also included with FBW on other platforms whereas it looks like Switch owners may have to buy them separately. Not to mention the fact that FBW was already cheaper on other platforms by the time it came to Switch, meaning you could get two games on PS4/XBONE for cheaper than you could for one game on Switch. Honestly, considering the fact that Ubisoft hasn't really put any of their major franchises on Switch yet, the Switch accounting for 5% of their revenue is pretty impressive.
