Re: Pokémon GO Adds Galar Pokémon In New Sword And Shield Event

Drumpler

I’m going to wait this one out until Niantic brings back the extended PokéStop distance and incense effectiveness. COVID isn’t over and those changes helped reduce its spread as well as being beneficial to disabled people. These Legendaries will come back so I am not in a hurry. I might do them with free remote raid passes but I am not spending money.

Re: Review: 3Souls (Wii U eShop)

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've seen you be dismissive of several games solely on the words of a reviewer. While I am glad you played and enjoyed it, too many people use reviews in place of critical thinking skills.

Re: Review: 3Souls (Wii U eShop)

Drumpler

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Do you people ever think for yourselves or do you just go by what reviewers say? I played it and I like it. Granted, I got it for free, but it seems to be an enjoyable game.

I am not saying everyone must like everything, but too many people here use reviews in place of having to think about or try new things.

Re: Video: These Five Mario Games Were Never Really Mario Games

Drumpler

I liked every game on that list. Including Mario Teaches Typing.

I was absolutely addicted to Tetris Attack and Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite platformers of all time.

Mario Teaches Typing is kind of low hanging fruit. Yes, it isn't one of the best Mario games but serves its purpose. It makes typing into a less boring task and is really meant to occupy children. I think there should be different criteria for an educational kids game.

I do agree the music and sound effects are atrocious if you use PC speakers, but they are beautiful if you had a suitable Sound Blaster.

I do think Interplay should have opted for silence without a sound card, though.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Wants To Bring Back Passwords For Dragon Quest XI

Drumpler

I played the original Dragon Quest (when it was called Dragon Warrior) as part of the Nintendo Power promotion and remember the days when passwords were in many games. I do not want this when a game is perfectly capable of saving my progress.

One could argue that you could use the system to skip ahead, but then why are you playing video games in the first place?

Re: Teddy Together Promises Kid-Friendly Confidence Building On 3DS

Drumpler

@Barbiegurl777 Mention to them that the 2DS is really cheap. In the US it is now $80. You're probably looking to spend $100 or less to import. That is the price of a Wii U and 3DS game together. You waited so long; don't give up hope.

Also, don't be deterred. Despite what their site says, Namco Bandai still makes console and handheld games. Heck, even Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS was made by them. You still have a chance!

Re: Teddy Together Promises Kid-Friendly Confidence Building On 3DS

Drumpler

@Barbiegurl777 Well, I definitely hope North America gets it for your sake. And if not, you can get a European 2DS or 3DS if you want to import it. Something tells me that won't deter you.

It seems the reception is better than I thought. I'm glad there are people who realize not every game is made for them.

Re: Reaction: Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins Had Humour, Weirdness, Teases and Lots of Potential

Drumpler

@smashbrolink I don't know. I kind of just like to think they are different universes that have no interaction or continuity between one another. It breaks immersion for me when I think of Mario co-existing with Link. The physics, world, everything in Mario is entirely different in the world of Zelda. So different that it would be like trying to fit Mickey Mouse into the Game of Thrones. I can only see it working like it does in Smash where the toys exist in a separate world from the actual Nintendo properties.

Re: Reaction: Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins Had Humour, Weirdness, Teases and Lots of Potential

Drumpler

@Geonicus I really don't want a Nintendo Animated Universe. I'd be okay with universes, though, if it makes sense. I can see Samus in the Star Fox universe, but not in the Zelda or Mario universes (not counting small cameos in games). I feel like forcing characters into an incompatible franchise will kill the mood.

As for Smash, since canonically the characters in the game are toy versions of the originals then maybe they can retain memories of their doubles in the other universes (like toy Buzz Lightyear thought he was the real Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story or how Lego Batman thinks he is the real Batman in the Lego Movie) yet remain distinct characters. That would allow for a crossover without hurting the integrity of other franchises.

We can agree that there should be more Nintendo anime. I'd like Nintendo to revive the Kid Icarus anime from the shorts they provided and to continue Star Fox Zero. They should also bring back Mario and Zelda cartoons and add Fire Emblem, Splatoon, and a Smash anime. And while I am dreaming, maybe Captain N? They invented the character in Nintendo Power and didn't do much with him beyond a cartoon. I'd understand if most people don't agree with this last point.

Re: Epic Dumpster Bear is the Real Name of an Upcoming Wii U eShop Game

Drumpler

@MarioPhD I think the only person being sanctimonious here is you because you believe that you can bully people into not creating games because they don't meet your personal criteria of an "acceptable game". Your little "game" where you point out examples from the App Store is an example of your childish behavior.

And I am glad you choose not to respond to me because I hate bullies. Saying a few nice things here and there doesn't make you not a bully. In fact, sociopaths often do the same thing.

You wanted to puff up your ego and show the world how much more you know of development. Look in the mirror.

Re: Star Fox Zero's Credits Feature A Touching Tribute To A "Fallen Wingman"

Drumpler

@abbyhitter Indeed you do. And we have every right to judge you and call you insensitive when you do.

It isn't your right to tell people what is an appropriate way to mourn. I miss Iwata myself and his death makes me sad because of how he died, how young he died, and how his death impacted Nintendo. I'd also feel sad if Miyamoto died because his life has influenced me in a dramatic fashion. I am who I am because of him.

You seem like you just simply like being a contrarian and edgy because you love the controversy. I don't really understand how hard it is to keep such insensitive comments to yourself. You don't have any special insight into people's psyche and thus it isn't your right to call them out so that you can win rhetorical points.

Re: Review: Puzzle Monkeys (Wii U eShop)

Drumpler

@SKTTR Speaking as an indie dev myself, often these games use generic graphics because they can't afford to have custom assets made. So they either go to the App Store or make them themselves. I'd rather have a decent game. I do think graphics have their place, but I look at indie games a lot differently than AAA and make certain allowances.

Re: Epic Dumpster Bear is the Real Name of an Upcoming Wii U eShop Game

Drumpler

@MarioPhD Well, I'm certainly glad you don't write the rules.

I have the game and it is very fun (a Mario-style Platformer with tight physics and excellent gameplay).

I do agree that not a lot of indie games are polished, but I care more about experiences. My experience tells me it is worth the $10 purchase and I hope to see more from the developer, even if their next game is filled with Unity assets. I'm not so uptight that I'll tell someone to quit making games just because they don't have the millions lying around to make it as polished as AAA. I view and play indie games with a different mindset and I am glad they exist because they engage with ideas that AAA are afraid to touch. There are a lot of bad games, but the good ones make up for it. You are really going to miss out on some incredible experiences if you expect absolute polish in every detail of every game.

Also, no one is forcing you to buy the game. Everyone I've seen on Miiverse who has played the game has praised it. If it doesn't fit your idea of a "real game" then just ignore it and play something that fits your standards. Indie devs are here to stay and the last thing they need to see is narrow minded opinions shooting them down because they can't be as polished as AAA. Game development is a lot of work, even for so-called "shovelware", and I believe many indie game developers have earned their keep, even if their games might lack a little polish. Why discourage them and make it so they want to quit development? Comments like this seem designed to do just that.

Re: Review: PEG SOLITAIRE (Wii U eShop)

Drumpler

@SKTTR How many games do you think should go into such a compilation and what is the most you'd pay? I'm not RCMADIAX but I've considered dumping a bunch of my smaller arcade games on a compilation (actually) called Alkterios Arcade and could learn from that.

Re: Review: PEG SOLITAIRE (Wii U eShop)

Drumpler

@zool I am a Wii U developer and while I have no issues with these types of games I have found that some do after releasing two small games on the console. I think they should exist, but maybe are best served in compilation packs or as actual free to play console games. I want to make these games available primarily on mobile first and then make definitive versions for console. I'd be curious to hear people's thoughts on this. I am also planning on releasing one bigger game a year alongside packs of these arcade games.

(Note: I am not associated with RCMADIAX although I follow his work and learn a lot from it.)

Re: Shadow Puppeteer Publisher Suggests Installing Directly to Wii U Memory, Imminent Patch Planned for External Drive Issue

Drumpler

@Humphries90 Actually, as a Wii U developer myself, I can tell you that we do not encounter hard drive issues often until the reviews release. Plus, it is harder for smaller devs to literally test every configuration. If Nintendo would allow developers to force an install to the system memory to be safe then it wouldn't bother me. I really think this is more a Nintendo issue than a developer issue because I've never been able to fix the issue where my games might run differently on some external drives than they do on system memory.

Re: Shadow Puppeteer Publisher Suggests Installing Directly to Wii U Memory, Imminent Patch Planned for External Drive Issue

Drumpler

@liveswired As far as I know, this is a Nintendo issue and developers can't test every possible configuration or setup. A lot of indie Wii U games won't load correctly on some external drives and many developers don't know this until the reviews bring them up. It has something to do with the drives not loading all of the game's code correctly or delivering content at a slow speed.

I have told people to install my games on their system memory until I can find a fix. I still haven't found one and I think it is a fault of the Wii U itself (at least the system software).

Re: Shadow Puppeteer Publisher Suggests Installing Directly to Wii U Memory, Imminent Patch Planned for External Drive Issue

Drumpler

@Arthurial I'm also a Wii U developer and had my game dinged by Destructoid because it didn't load all content on an external drive (albeit, the reviewer's drive was unsupported). It was like he was playing another game!

I wish the Wii U would allow us to force an install (at least temporarily) to the Wii U system memory.

Smaller developers are unable to test every possible configuration, so your best bet is to use Nintendo's external drive recommendations or (most recommended) use the Wii U system memory.

I'm still beyond frustrated with Nintendo over this.

Re: Shadow Puppeteer Publisher Suggests Installing Directly to Wii U Memory, Imminent Patch Planned for External Drive Issue

Drumpler

Hold Your Fire (my Wii U game) was dinged tremendously by Destructoid because the game didn't load all the content from the reviewer's external drive (mind you, he wasn't using a drive with a separate power supply so that might also be the reason).

It is a lot harder to support external drives than people think because we need to be familiar with every type of setup there is (virtually impossible). I wish I could force an install on the Wii U system memory but that is currently impossible.

I'm still looking for a fix for this issue and have promised free content to make up for it but currently have not solved it. I'll just say that it is public knowledge that many Wii U games can run weird on external drives, so when doubt use system memory or use a supported drive recommended on Nintendo's website.

Re: Bigley's Revenge Has Been Removed From the eShop

Drumpler

@Dankykong Honestly, I think the real "idiots" are people who buy games that they don't/won't like. Some devs know they'll do it and release it anyway.

I'm not saying Bigley's Revenge shouldn't exist and I don't dislike the concept. But if people hate it, why do they buy it? "For the lulz?"
