@Samalik most gaming is casual though, especially with Nintendo. nobody has said that people don't want physical anymore, but people are buying more digital now. It's just the way it is, physical sales are getting lower and lower each year and will soon most likely will be gone forever. Nothing last forever and physical sales will die off In a few years. It hink switch 2 may be Nintendo's last truly physical generation console. I think the switch 3 or whatever it will be will have a digital only sku

@karatekid1612 that's cool, in a few years, that choice will be largely gone. Probably by the next generation, so maybe in 10 years it will be all digital with a few places like limited run producing physical games. People are voting with their wallets, and with digital sales eclipsing physical, Nintendo are just following the pattern of the majority of people's buying habits. It's been going this way since the Xbox 360 days. It's just now becoming a reality

@Anti-Matter In the video game market, digital sales significantly outpace physical sales. A recent report from BBC indicated that in 2022, 89.5% of UK game sales were digital downloads, with only 10.5% being physical copies. This trend is a global phenomenon, with digital sales accounting for a majority of the gaming market revenue.

@YagaMaki well I think a 256gb express sd card is £49.99. I think Nintendo games will be well optimised for the system and smaller size. Dunno about the rest, I won't be buying any cross platform games for the switch 2. Plus it has alot of internal memory from the get go. Also define expensive. One mans expensive is another mans cheap

@karatekid1612 literally couldn't care about physical anymore. They take up unnecessary room on the shelf and digital is a much more streamlined experience. Cant see the outrage myself, it's a minority of collectors who just have to have stuff on physical cartridge for the sake of it

@StewdaMegaManNerd as far as battery life goes, it would be interesting to know how long people actually play for in handheld. I've probably done 3 hrs on my switch OLED in one session and that was on my couch. If I want to play Zelda for 6 hours it will be on the TV. I tend to like playing retro or indie games in handheld and AAA games on the TV. Having said that my 20 hour play through of Luigi's mansion was done all in handheld mode but over a period weeks on small sessions, not because of the battery life but just the way I would play a level and then put it down for a day or two before playing again

Re: Nightdive Studios' CEO Says That Game-Key Cards On Switch 2 Is "Disheartening"

DonkeyKongBigBoy

@StewdaMegaManNerd I get that. But whether it's via the internet or not, it's still not only preserving and in many cases enhancing those old games, it also doing it for other publishers aswell, like Sega with the Genesis on expansion pack, and Capcom with Megaman etc. I'm not sure what other way there would be of 'preserving' these older titles. They just aren't going to put out Mario bros, ice climber etc as physical titles. It has to be online. And I don't think Nintendo are ever going to cut off Nintendo switch online now. It could happen, but it's highly doubtful

@Medic_alert I don't agree because I'd wager 70% of those games would never be played if they weren't on NSO. And even if they are worth playing. It's a small minority that cares about physical games these days. You'd think it was more because that minority has a loud voice. Bit the stats says physical gaming is dying and people like to download them more than going to the store to buy them regardless of the price. I think Nintendo is definitely preserving games better than most
