By "In game concert" of course you mean, if you opened the game and navigated to the news section you could find a link which sends you to a webpage with a private YouTube video imbedded in it. You could watch the video as an overlay when you return to the game (or any other app for that matter) but you'd be better off watching it fullscreen and the overlay would get in the way of gameplay no matter where you leave it.
Great idea, less than optimal implementation and communication.
So basically the AI takes an input and generates the next key frame based on observing overworld gameplay from Pokemon Platinum. Though you can tell they only trained it on the first areas in the game (As evidenced by the lack of variety and the ability to make out the words "sandgem town" in the upper corner while traveling west)
Nothing too radical but not too shabby either.
Also the idea NNs are modeled after the human brain is misleading. It's like making a diorama of the JJ Thompson Atom. Technically it would be modleled after an atom, but based on an oversimplified and obsolete understanding of how the structure actually behaves
Honestly, the fact that Nintendo used to do this sort of thing at all is impressive. Asking them to redo it retroactively on entirely different hardware and firmware is entitlement at it's finest
@PokemonDMG sounds like Arbitrary code Execution (ACE) with the right program you can run literally any code you want within the game, using ACE. A month or two ago, ACE was used to add a boss fight with the running man and a BOTW-inspired cutscene into an unmodified copy of ocoraina of time.
@Corvus96 just because you think newer pokemon are worse doesn't mean everyone agrees with you... In fact according to my easier tally, half the people here ranked Kanto as dead last
Also I've seen more primary sources supporting ogbert's version of events than yours
@Gamecuber Mario kart is always the #1 seller on a system. (Helps that it was bundled with the console for years) Animal crossing's sales were boosted by the pandemic.
The real surprise is SSBU outsold BOTW.
(Pokemon consistently sells well but it's never at the very top)
@WallyWest that has nothing to do with it's design tho. (Barring your opinion that a Pokemon is inherently better based on it's source of inspiration, which could be the topic of a whole separate debate entirely) imagine if it didn't do all that and the first time we ever saw a Snorlax was in scarlet and violet...after we already knew bewear. Would it still be so iconic?
Just for fun I tallied up everyone's rankings. (Half-points for ties)
Kanto and galar are the most devicive with half the votes scattered across the top 4 and the other half in dead last. Their tallies were so similar I'm listening them together
Johto is only slightly better with a few votes in the top three but but the majority being placed around 7th
Hoenn gets a mixed reception as well but generally viewed positivly, being the only region without a single vote below 6th place
Sinnoh was consistently ranked either 1st or third (Not a single vote for second though,) with only a couple votes lower than that
Unova has 1 or 2 votes in every placement. Which is impressive in of itself.
Kalos has a lot of hard stand stans but on the other side quite a few people don't really care for it either
Alola is the dunsparse of pokedexes... Constantly ranked in the middle with one person ranking it higher.
In conclusion people really like sinnoh (and to a lesser extent Kalos) Hoenn is nice, Alola is very... Middle... And everything else you either love it or hate it.
@EarthboundBenjy unpopular opinion the majority of the Kanto dex is overated and if for some reason a Pokemon like Snorlax was quietly shelved before the release and revealed as a "new" Pokemon today it wouldn't be as loved.
I'm still slightly concerned about what they didn't show but there is a lot more to this game than I originally thought. I was on the fence but now I'm excited.
@Xiovanni to be fair, we don't know how soon you can unlock it... If I've already explored a large chunk of the map i'd appreciate the chance to go from point A to point b faster
Also legends did this well where ride pokemon was better fkr covering large distances but exploring an area was better on foot.
@ZZalapski the biggest advantage is preserving the media itself without re-releasing it and/or allowing copyright infringement.
Seribii and bulbapedia don't have comprehensive media archives in their site just reports just links to and JPGs of official media.
I actually worked in an archive for a few years and it's a full time job, ideally, your goal is to make something that could outlast the internet. And for a game company, that includes preserving internal documents and game betas they can't share with the public
Good for them, preserving videogame history is very important! Also I can think of a few indeviduals who do this sort of thing as a hobby so i'm sure there were a ton of applicants right out ofbthe gate.
@Jevarel first off niantic is a privately traded conpany, they don't need to "make the shareholders happy"
second, they if you haven't noticed, an 8% decreace staff is actually rather optemistic given the current economic trends and especially compared compared to other, more "sucessfull" tech companies.
Third Niantic has two products ready for launch and their developer platform is starting to reach maturity. This is actually a convienient time for them to undergo a restructuring and otherwise the least essential employees on those projects would have been moved elswhere anyways (most likely to lowest-priority projects)
In balance, I have to say niantic made the right call. If anything expect the teams for the cancelled projects to get moved into the teams supporting proven products like GO and Lightship.
@MysticX i mean... I don't think.niantic expects to make annother pokemon go. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't invest in new products...
Imagine if 6 years after Donkey Kong people were still rolling their eyes at everything Nintendo released. "They should just give up, they'll probably never get anywhere close to that ever again"

While I agree with most, if not all, the points made here this is the order I would have placed them in:
8 Johto
7 Unova
6 Kanto
5 Hoenn
4 Alola
🥉Kalos
🥈Galar
🥇Sinnoh 🏆
