Update [Sun 21st Aug, 2022 16:55 BST]: At the closing ceremony of the 2022 Pokémon World Championships, The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara shared a brand new "competitive play" video for the upcoming Scarlet and Violet games.
This included the reveal of the new Pokémon Cyclizar. It's a Dragon/Normal-type, and comes with the move Shed Tail - where it can create a substitute then swap places with a party Pokémon in waiting.
The same trailer also showed off some new items including the Mirror Herb and Loaded Dice, as well as another new move: Tera Blast. See it all in action in the trailer above.
Nintendo of America - "Meet the Mount Pokémon, Cyclizar. A Pokémon that has lived in many Paldea region households since ancient times, it’s common to see people riding Cyclizar! Fun fact: It can sprint at over 70 mph while carrying a human!"
The Scarlet and Violet Trading Card Game series was also announced at the 2022 World Championships closing ceremony:
Original article [Fri 19th Aug, 2022 05:00 BST]: As you might have heard, the Pokémon World Championship 2022 is taking place this weekend and as part of this, there's expected to be some news about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet at the closing ceremony this Sunday.
During the opening ceremony, The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara teased some "news" for Scarlet and Violet, as well as the Trading Card Game's future. Here's exactly what he had to say (via IGN):
"We also have news for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and the future of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. but I'd like to share those updates with you during our closing ceremony, so I ask that you wait just a little bit longer."
Whether or not these two new items will be linked is unclear at this stage. It's probably best not to get too excited, either. The latest Scarlet and Violet trailer released earlier this month revealed the region of the new games and introduced the new mechanic known as the "Terestal Phenomenon".
As for the TCG, the new version of the digital game recently got a beta in select locations around the world. You can see more content related to the Pokémon World Championship 2022 in the below guides:

The evolution of the starter, please.
I’m vary happy with the information constancy. It’s just the right amount of information in the right amount of time.
I wouldn't expect massive news or anything. Probably just a small trailer that shows off held items or Legendary Abilities.
@Anti-Matter I'm hoping they do. They did something similar when Sun & Moon was still unreleased at the time.
And hopefully we can know the two legendary pokemon's type as well.
Good thing they warn us beforehand
Have to stay off new sites, Twitter etc on sunday (and probably monday) then
@NinjaNicky
Yes there is Info on this site. https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/pokemon-scarlet-and-violet-what-are-the-differences-all-version-exclusive-pokemon-and-more
I already know enough to want this game. Those live action advertisements are the only thing I am waiting for before the release.
Probably just one pokemon. The third legendary or something
@NinjaNicky
It is a good choice.
Almost sounds like they'll announce the next Violet/Scart themed TCG packs?
Hopefully the protagonist names get revealed.
I'm not expecting much for a Worlds reveal but my guess is either a singular new mon is revealed (kind of like what they did with Salandit and Sirfetch'd in SuMo and SwSh) or they go over new competitive mechanics (basically the Worlds reveal for SwSh). I'd love them to show off a big trailer with tons of new stuff (especially since this is the first Worlds in 3 years) but with Pokemon, you always have to keep realistic with these kinds of things. Bring on Sunday!
@DanijoEX Dragon/fight and Dragon/electric
Scarlet and violet will be competative format for next year... Something somehing next card rotation.
Cyclizar looks like proto model of Koraidon.
Cyclizar absolutely evolves into either Koraidon or Miraidon depending on the version and you can't change my mind. Absolutely love them though, especially this image on the website which just cracks me up:
The new items look really cool as well (Loaded Dice makes me very excited as someone who loves Breloom and Cinccino 😈). Will say one thing though: Covert Cloak makes me....concerned (Fake Out is deleted from existence).
@Friendly This aged well
@Fizza I came here to say exactly that. They are going the Sun/Moon way and giving the legendaries a shared preevolved form
Just give Eevee a new evolution for God sake, people have been requesting this for years now.
Whilst I'm looking forward to exploring the open world and I like the look of the new crystalize mechanic, but god the new pokemon designs in this new gen are awful, probably the worse gen yet for actual new Pokémon
@UltimateOtaku91 I don't agree, I think the design are pretty darn good. I will say though so far that Sword and Shield had better designs but we still need to see the whole dex
@RubyCarbuncle Won’t happen I’m pretty sure.
Wait… since when do legendry Pokémon have pre-evolutions?
@RareFan Since Sun & Moon.
@RareFan sun and moon with cosmog which evolved into the games main legendaries and type null which evolves into sylvally.
Also in sword and shield kubfu evolved into urshifu
He’s so cute <3 so will he evolve into the legendary?
Edit: guess I need to read
Its like Pokemon meet Transformers!! Wonder how many will have vehicle looks
Damn. It should have been a steel type so that it won’t die of lead poisoning when I give it a paint job.
@Fizza you were spot on
@Friendly As were you!
I don't know what the hell has been going on with my powers of prediction lately but everything I say seems to come to fruition. Do you think I could add that to my resume?
That’s a digimon. And I love it.
@Fizza I think so. Just add on top of your resume ‘I know you WILL hire me and here’s why…’ and you’ll be fine from now on when searching for a job.
I have difficulty understanding Pokemon games. This is because when I borrowed Pokemon Sword, in battles..I would choose random moves, sometimes I would battle while looking at TV while watching a movie...without knowing what I was doing in the game.. ...and yet.....there was never the slightest chance of me losing a battle. It doesn't make any sense to me....i don´t know where the fun is in these Pokemon franchise games.
I don't know where intelligence is needed to play Pokemon against the game's artificial intelligence.
I swear I want to like a game from the pokemon franchise, but if a game doesn't require the least amount of intelligence from me to play, it will be a waste of time for me. Because if so, I'd rather play Slay the Spire!
SNK vs Capcom: 300 different cards to collect.
Magic the Gathering: 7135 different cards to collect.
Shadowverse: 647 different cards to collect.
As for SNK vs CAPCOM Card Battle, Magic the Gathering, Shadowverse, you need to use a LOT of brain to collect all the cards, because you can LOSE often even improve as a player. In Pokemon you always win even with your eyes closed.
Insert CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES joke here
@Rykdrew yep the in story battles are all kids stuff. It’s competitive play and the “towers” after end game that give any challenge. That’s where I stop lol.
I've heard a bunch of people say that they don't like Terastalizing. After seeing the trailer, I think the competitive community at least will come to like it. It really opens up a lot of possibilities for competitive play, and I think the teams we see at events in Gen IX will be more diverse than what we saw for Gen VIII.
@OFFICIALMichi so..I need to play 20-30 hours of boring easy-like-a-baby game to finally have fun playing this "tower"?
Does this tower have a lot of replay value? I do not intend to renew NSO to play online. I prefer to play games online on Steam.
Uh...what's with all the motorcycle pokemon? It's really cheesy IMO...
Those crystal Pokemon look so ridiculous I can't believe it, I felt so embarrassed looking at Tyrannitar with that big goofy balloon on his head. They couldn't just not add a dumb mechanic for once? Like swapping types once per battle, okay, that's kinda what mega evolutions were but whatever, but I have to actually look at everything turn into Elton John/Lady Gaga the whole time? And do I have to ride those goofy ass motorcycle dragons the whole game too? Why can't I just ride my Pokemon? I genuinely hate to sound this critical but I'm really upset they couldn't just make this an open world Pokemon without the goofy BS, it totally killed my hype.
@Wordbonder @SpaceBoyScreams Yeah, I wasn't too keen on the first two motorbike-style Pkm but now, every other one seems to have a Motorbike Mode.
I'm not a fan either.
@RubyCarbuncle Which Type?
Dragon or Bug for me.
The starter form of the cover legendaries maybe? But I'm still failing to have any form of hype for this. Also just bring back the megavolutions that was the best along with the regional variations.
Pokemon 5D's coming to a store near you!!! 😎
@IceClimbers CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!🤪
Dragon / normal? Isn't that just dragon?
@Rykdrew - Come back after you’ve handled Cynthia in BDSP or taken on the hardest battles in Legends Arceus’s main campaign. Or just don’t play Pokémon at all if it’s not your thing. Steam has plenty to keep you challenged.
@Cyclist Dragon for me.
@Wordbonder I remember Final Fantasy XIII had an ice woman (Shiva) who transformed into a motorbike 😅
@xjulianvel Thanks for the answer. You gave me a good tip. I won't spend hours in boredom just for playing one challenging battle or two. I don't have this level of patience or masochism. I will continue to play Shadowverse (switch), magic the gathering (epic), griftlands (steam) and other games instead. Thank you!
The reason I asked about Pokemon is because there was a shred of hope that someone would come along and answer me: "This was just an impression, the game will demand a little more from you, give the game a chance".. .but you confirmed to me that the game is 99% impossible to lose a battle, to 1% possible to lose a battle. I don't have fun this way. I'm not being ironic, thanks again.
Put it back, we don’t want these motorcycle monstrosities! 😭😭
@IceClimbers Biker Mice from Mars: The Card Game.
I wish Charizard can transform into flying vehicle like Bahamut FF XIII. 😁
@Wordbonder
Pokemon in Gestatl Mode (Final Fantasy XIII), ahoy !
@SpaceboyScreams i feel like getting upset pokemon is goofy is like getting mad that a clown has its face painted
Having lizards with large neck pouches is actually not all that uncommon:
Looks like that's the source of inspiration for the two legendaries and Cyclizar.
@Fizza It won't evolve into the legendaries but rather is the current form of them (the others being ancient and future versions). It all lines up with leaks but I won't get into that.
Well at...at least it's new. That's something.
Wort wort wort
@Rykdrew the game is for children, main campaign is easily accesible for kids to enjoy, adults have to pretty much just roll with it until the post game. Pokemon was never challenging, the only people that say so are the ones who grew up with the first gen and imagine a level of challenge that just isn’t there. It was challenging because they were kids when they played it. Honestly if it hasn’t clicked for you it wont at this point as each game gets easier. I would recommend a spin-off game like pokemon legends or pokken tournament
I hope that is a non functioning wheel under its chin. Cause if it works. Well then I don’t know. I just want to know how and what happens if it gets a flat tire 😅
@somebread there's a certain level of goofy they've stayed pretty close to for 25 years, a fun goofy that doesn't yank you out of the illusion that even just for a moment you're playing around in the Pokemon universe, but I think gaudy crystal balloons sprouting from heads signifying a type change is even goofier than Pokemon becoming 50 feet tall which was already a step too far IMO. I don't want to fantasize I'm transported to a world where that kind of batty cr** can happen, it's not relevant to the charm that made people love the series in the first place, it's jumping the shark because they're out of ideas, or at least that's how it comes across to me.
The official statement mentions the term "Mount Pokemon." I really wish other Pokemon other than the cover legendaries could count as Mount Pokemon, and be used as transport. I really want to ride on my own Pokemon finally!!

???? Eh? What??
I cannot believe the level of naivety, lack of wit and general -veity in some of these comments - especially the above guy who clearly doesn't understand the premise of what he's saying.
How on *Earth (ahem, Paldea) would you be able or allowed to ''ride any Pokémon you want'' if you're just starting off on your journey come on why can't people actually pause to think about what they're saying on here??
The map is Open-access (access all areas), a true Open-World just like Breath of the Wild. They've given you the Box Legendaries as all-purpose-vehicles what looks to be near or even at the starting Town to be able to access this.
If you just had to go off on foot or a standard bike to say, access your Gogoat or Stantler for your dream ride you basically would have to wait all that time until you actually encountered and caught those Pokemon to 'fast travel' and traverse awkward terrain like long grass maybe. That would maybe be over an hour into a playthrough of needing to boringly bike it only!
So, the Box Leggies are just like Breath of the Wild's Runes and Links' default (and busted) ability to scale walls at the price of stamina which you could work around with easy to access foodstuffs anyway.
Yes, eventually We hope you can ride a Gogoat but they didn't want these titles to simply feel like the older games all over again.
That would defeat the whole point of an 'Open World' anyway. There's a difference to 'Sandbox arena' and full 'Open World'. Breath is a true Open World and something like say, Halo Infinite is a Sandbox. Legends Arceus is multiple sandbox areas but not a true Open World.
This is Legends Arceus but only 10x better in terms of seamless World exploration and fun access to areas.
As for the new gimmick; Megas were simply not ''changing types'' lol, what are you on about?
''big Goofy balloon on Tyranitar's head'' ~ You're obviously a newcomer to the Series. That is an amazing reference to the ''Ghost sprites'' used in the *Original Red and Blue games!
These type-changing abilities have never been used in Pokémon - what did you want, something ridiculously OP and obnoxious like Dynamaxing again (aka - 'lets make an already easy series or game 100x easier for you with crazy movesets and stats?!')
So, your comment and opinions like these hating on the Rideable Legendaries hold no water. Just a couple of bad, misplaced eggs.
