Yesterday's Pokémon Presents brought us a ton of new info on generation 9, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. After some silence from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company on the upcoming open-world RPGs, we got a full 10 minutes of news, visuals, and info, and there are a lot of new features coming.
Of course, Scarlet & Violet weren't the only games that got some time in the limelight, but it's what we're probably most happy with. Because the rest of the presentation followed a pretty standard formula. Some of us loved what we saw, particularly from generation 9, but it also has some of us asking — have Pokémon Presents become a bit too predictable?

That's what the lovely video team has sat down to discuss. Alex, Zion, and Felix have gathered to pick apart the presentation, debate the pros and cons, and tell us what they like. Tera types, visuals, new Pokémon, and bikes are just some of the topics, but it's not just Scarlet & Violet that's under scrutiny.
So, check out what our trio of Trainers thought of the whole presentation and discuss whether Pokémon should change how it shares information about its major games, in the video below.
What did you think of the Pokémon Presents? Let us know in the comments both here and on YouTube!

Yeah... there are kinda predictable to be fair...
Question : What did you think of the Pokémon Presents?
Me : It was okay. I thought it will have Proto and Neo form from the rumour I heard.
Pokemon as a whole is predictable ... yet we all buy it and it tops the charts every time.
Pokemon is just a drug that we don't need yet we must have it!
Btw did anyone saw if there is a Pokemon cemetery area in the new region?
Predictable? Sure I guess, but the presents do exactly what they're intended to do and give out information for upcoming games, what more can you ask for?
I mean yes it was completely leaked, but who cares? It's Pokémon which is so addictive that I'm always hyped for a new Gen.
aren't they kinda supposed to be a bit predictable?
I'd prefer it if they dropped a little trailer each week, or just included it in standard Nintendo Directs.
I don't need to be held hostage while they tell me about their dull mobile games.
I'll give them credit: was not expecting them to give Worlds (and by extension the VGC circuit) a spotlight during it. I thought that was a wonderful gesture towards the competitive sector and, as a competitive Pokemon enthusiast myself, I appreciated it a lot.
That being said though....I made my personal predictions of 'Unite, Cafe Remix, Masters and SV' and I was bang on with each and every one of them. I'd like it if they would occasionally throw long-time fans a bone and show off a new entry in a beloved spin-off series like they did with Rescue Team DX and New Pokemon Snap back in January 2020 and June 2021 respectively, but it feels like it becomes less and less likely by the day. I guess it's just a mobile world and we're all just living in it.
No idea why people expect Pokémon trying to reinvent the wheel. Not to mention trying to be different for the sake of being different isn’t exactly a positive boon either if the end result is worse then the “predictable”, but try and true style
I prefer the Pokemon approach before Presents (Pokemon Direct excluding mobile stuff and Pokemon games having presence in general Directs) though they did spend too much time on Sword/Shield in the September 2019 Direct.
Predictable isn't an issue and can be a good thing like how you know every general Direct before the end of 2023 will have MK8 Deluxe. The problem with Pokemon Presents is that stuff like esports and mobile games really slows down the pacing to dull levels.

that is all i have to say
I honestly just watch the Presents for news on the new big titles. Spin-offs are pretty much dead in this community, so that's all of note really. The mobile games don't really interest me or seem fun, so eh.
@Greatluigi,
I predicted your response.
I just wish they wouldn't start with all those mobile games. I got so tired by those such that I was half asleep when they finally showed Gen 9
For someone who regularly follows pokemon news it was nothing but reminders and Scarlet Violet news.
Very light on announcements but did what it was supposed to
Also salt about the mount silver cinematic
Pokémon has had like a million spin offs. It's ok that the main games aren't totally different each gen. Unite, snap, mystery dungeon, pokken, quest, cafe, arceus are all extremely different versions of Pokémon on switch.
Let me feel like 3rd grade me with blue version again and I'm good.
The only main predictable stuff is main games, and 10 or 15 minutes wasted on mobile games, cause who really cares more about mewtwo is back to cook in a Cafe
I love Pokemon Presents! I enjoy seeing all the updates on Pokemon games grouped into one Direct! I would even enjoy short segments featuring merchandise
I don't think many predicted the announcement of a new gen when they announced scarlet and violet.
In showcases like this one though I don't think anyone was expecting surprises.
Is the franchise Becoming Too Predictable?*
I don't see why "predictable" is necessarily a bad thing. Unpredictability can be just as bad. Just look at all of those fans of the first two Paper Mario games bummed out that Nintendo and Intelligent Systems decided to get experimental with the combat system and the writing after the second game.
Pokémon Presents never had big surprises, if I'm being honest. They're in no way up to the same standards that Nintendo Directs and even "Mr. Sakurai Presents" are in terms of building up hype.
@Narrator1
Or recently with the spin-off Musou/Warriors games in terms of story when drawn towards their respective main series counterparts.

Yes. A lot of this could've just been tweets. Ya don't need to do a massive presentation if you've not got much to show that people give a toss about!
I liked the S/V trailer well enough but I wish there was one more surprise besides the usual updates for all the live service games. Perhaps news about Pokémon Sleep or Detective Pikachu (which are probably dead at this point)
Pokemon Presents has a lot of the corporate vibes that some of the older Directs used to have. I get that they don't have a laundry list of high quality spin-offs and need to talk about all their mobile nonsense somewhere, but I definitely appreciate Nintendo leaving that kind of thing out of their presentations.
Is it the presentation, or is it the software?
I mean, it’s a Pokémon presentation, not expecting much else.
I can't believe the Pokemon Presents talked about upcoming Pokemon games. UGH. So predictable.
@johnvboy ...should I be worried?
(I’m not being sarcastic btw)
If they were unpredictable people would complain. Pokemon videos are supposed to be about what they showed. Stop trying to be so negative.
Really I kind of wish they'd just put out individual trailers or release the videos upfront without livestreaming them so you can skip stuff. I get the logic of doing it the way they do but at the end of the day I just don't care and am never going to care about stuff like Go and Unite.
We say this, but I don’t think anyone predicted that an open-world Gen 9 would be announced in the February Presents.
@gregmce ikr.😂
@Greatluigi,
Everything will turn out fine.
@johnvboy annnd now I’m scared.
@Greatluigi,
Now you have got me worried.
Yes, but only because Pokemon has been the same game since the gameboy. Even this "New open world" will probably just boil down to being exactly a Pokemon game. I used to love the series and have a lot of nostalgia for it through to the GBA, but I have lost a tonne of interest, though Arceus helped bring it back.
Not necessarily more predictable, just much more streamlined... I just wish there were more presentations like the Sword and Shield Direct, where the developers themselves speak about the project.
You know, 'directly'.
