Re: Review: Mega Man 4 (Virtual Console / NES)

I agree with Corbie, this is the best Mega Man on the service at this point, and second best in the series.

Although personally I'd say 6 narrowly beats this for supremecy, and 5 is not far back in third.

Really that's one of the main things I like about the guy. His art has a definite, edgy Tim Burton vibe. It's like when he releases a game, you'll know it's from him.

Or if you see a game hyped for a while here but never released, you'll know it's from him.

Re: Mega Man 4

But even without this personal attachment I'd fail to see how anybody would regard this as the weakest in the classic series.

Yep, 4,5,& 6 actually deviated from the norm, and well.

Sure 1 & 2 had robot screens and the robot weapons, aside from those two things the games were fairly standard run and gunners. 3 added the great slide, but didn't go far beyond it. Then the later NES games were released the level designs become more involved and more enjoyable. Gravity Man's stage is sublime, Blizzard Man's submarine was great, as was traversing the oil and water in Centaur Man's stage.

And hey the lack of dud stages was great no lame Crash Man stage, Wily Stages that didn't suck, twas great :3

I feel a 7/10 with a strong warning that you need to be a strategy or RPG buff first to really get something out of this would be more appropriate.

But that's a terrible way to review something. By trying to please everyone, no one will be pleased. By that logic nothing should get above 7 as no genre is fully embraced by all.

Edit: I'd prefer reviewers to rate games based on how good they are, rather than by how many demographics that they appeal to. Also a 7 has some unjust ramifications, it'd turn off some strategy fans as they'd see it as short of greatness, as well as turning off people on the fence as the score is nothing special. With the current score there are still people who have said they won't buy it since the genre doesn't appeal to them, I like to think that most people would be at that level of common sense, instead of below.

meh rpgs are not my thing but this game looks interesting. i might download it.btw 10/10????!!!!! should be 9/10 imo

imo complaining about the score of a game you've not played is something silly people do.

I consider this to be the worst mario platformer made, everything feels too much like work and the mario magic is few and far between

There's a sentiment I can agree with, halfway through the game the fun ends, and the chores begin.

This article is really ...ew

I don't see how people take so long to use the washroom, 3 minutes is more than enough time. Not much gaming can be done in that time.

Re: Review: Super Mario 64 DS (DS)

For someone who doesn't mind the controls, the DS version is completely better. Better graphics, more content, multiplayer, etc.

Not really. Sure the controls are managable, but the original controls leagues better, you can boldly go out and do all sorts of risky maneuvers, that just often aren't worth trying with the DS as it's much more awkward to perform precisely.

The graphics mean little, and the added content is nice, but it's saturation. The extra content isn't up to the standards of the regular content, it's kind of nice that it's there, but it's nothing major as it's a bit of a step down from the core game anyways.

Been waiting a while to pick this one up from Gamestop used. Soon as it goes under $30 im in.
It's that expensive?!

Why not just go with the VC version? The controls are perfect, so it's a better experience anyways.

Re: Review: Super Mario 64 DS (DS)

A seven looks harsh to me. Aside from the controls it's a phenomenal game. I'd find 8 or 9 reasonable (I'd probably go 8 m'self, since this is an ambitous remake rather than a completely original game), since the controls are the only real issue, and they're not that bad.

Re: Developer Allegedly Has DS2 Kit

I'm suprised at these scrap the dual screen comments, some games made fantastic use of both screens (like TWEWY), while most others were used more simply to provide great practicality (like pretty much every RPG).

Re: Sonic Playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2?

At first I was like eww, but now that I've thought about it, it could be quite good.

It could have the fun of SA1&2 (they weren't polished at all though)

and the polsih of SMG (which wasn't much fun, it just had some excellent presentation).

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - February 2010

@Donatello
I'd agree with MM3 being overrated, as far as the NES games go I'd only place it above 1 and 2.
It definitely did have the weakest set of robot masters though, once Snake Man is defeated the stage select is only orange and blue.

I find 2 incredibly overrated, it was pretty standard all around, it had a few excellent themes, but it also had that terrible boss that was only prone to crash bombs, and the Wily stages were dull as a whole.

4,5 and 6 were generally much better than the first three, by straying from the mostly standard gameplay they flourished. There were awesome levels like Gravity Man's, Star Man's, Blizzard Man's and such.
Everything being more vibrant was nice too
