We just recently saw the release of Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth in North America and now news has just leaked out that Castlevania: Rondo of Blood has just been ESRB Rated. Honestly, it can't get much better than this for Castlevania fans, and it would seem that Hudson's release of the game can now not be too far away. While it's a bit strange to see Hudson bringing the Konami PC Engine classic to the Virtual Console themselves instead of Konami, as fans of the series, we'll take it any way we can get it.
We'll keep you informed on any new information regarding the upcoming release and we'll have a full review of the game when it's released on the Virtual Console.

Nice.
Akumajou Dracula X Chi no Rondo is hitting the States someday.
I played it on Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP, but it's nice to see that it'll hit the States.
What a great way to start 2010!
Now everyone will experience the gameplay of Maria Renard! imo, she's much stronger than Richter (who's my favorite Belmont).
Soundtrack is awesome, and cutscenes are cutting edge.
Hudson is listed as the publisher because their always listed as the publisher for Turbografx games on the ESRB even if it ends up saying otherwise when the game finally hits the shop.
Don't forget... they also rated EarthBound...
_;;Hope this gets a better fate... like I think it will... but still...
I think this has a bigger chance to appear on the VC.
Yes, it's coming!
imo, it's the best Castlevania game of all time. Though that may just be me. :3
I love the Item Crash move, and hooray for Richter's backflips!!!
Earthbound has its own issues. Rondo is just a regular import release. There's no similarity.
Yeah, I don't see this game having any problems coming over to the VC. Plus it's already been released in Japan. Just an unusually long wait for some reason. Glad to see it's finally on its way.
Any chance it'll be translated?
This will be listed on Hudson's VC website when they are ready to release it. I suggest checking http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html each month to see when its going to be released.
There's not much to translate really. The opening voice overs are in German anyway.
It's been ages since I played this (using MagicEngine ), and I can't wait to get the full experience on my TV. I'll get Rebirth this week just as a little pre-game for the main event.
I once got 100% of this game done.
The final boss encounter with Dracula I felt could've been improved by making it much harder, but otherwise, I've got no problem.
Plus, the encounters with Death are epic!!!
SPOILER I also like how Symphony of the Night, the sequel to this game, starts out where Akumajou Dracula X leaves off. SPOILER
All I'm getting at is that ESRB isn't concrete. Granted, it looks up, especially with the announcement a while back, but we still may not get this until September, y'know?
There's something that bothers me about the box art. What is that crimson thing on the side of Richter? Is it a gargoyle statue, or what?
It's still a cool box art. Konami decided to use it on the box cover of SNES Akumajou Dracula XX/Castlevania Dracula X/Vampire's Kiss as well.
Finally. I never ever played this and everyone holds it in high regard. Can't wait to try it out.
Oh can't wait! This is will be good one to play!
This'll be a day one download for me!
*Excitement *
Let's hope Bloodlines is soon to follow.
I really can't wait for Castlevania Bloodlines. I heard good things about it, and I heard it's got an excellent soundtrack.
I have yet to play either Rondo of Blood or Bloodlines. I'm totaly stoked for this! So I'm guessing it will be released on WiiWare i take it? as it's not on any of the VC consoles...unless we're talking Dracula X which apperantly wasn't up to snuff, another castlevania i havent tried. But since Rondo of blood is hitting there's no point in playing the crappier Dracula X for the SNES.
OH and can you fling your whip around like in Super Castlevania IV? If not somebody's gonna be a sad panda ;p
This has been my most wanted VC game since forever. Time to buy a few extra pairs of undies just incase I crap myself when this becomes available. Then I'll have a full blown Castlevania fit and play every game in the series in Chronological order. Yep I'm obsessed.
@Donatello - you can't swing your whip in eight directions, or fling it around. I'm sorry to say.
I don't mind that it doesn't have it here on Akumajou Dracula X.
Whoa. Instant buy. Despite the fact that weekly releases often suck, the virtual console now has enough AAA games to be considered "good". Be sure to check out Secret of Mana too.
I have Secret of Mana on the VC, and it's a good action-oriented RPG. I've still three more bosses left until I beat it.
An actually exciting VC release on the horizon? A rarity, indeed.
I got a copy sometime ago to play on the computer (it costs alot!!) but it was worth every penny, and now we can have it for 8 bucks! That's a great steal for, imo, the best games in the series, and one of the best games on the system all together.
I will buy this the day it comes out, hopefully sooner than later.
bursts through wall OH YEAH. Thankfully I don't have the PSP version yet, because then I'd have to dig my uncomfortable-to-play PSP out of my closet, then charge it every 3 hours. I am psyched.
Finally! This is excellent news! This will definitely be an instant download for me.
You won't be disappointed.
Dear lord, don't this be a case like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, where the game was ESRB-rated for like three years before it came out ...
yeah, SOTN still's better, but this is cooler (not really, inverted castle was coolest) but this is the original
It will probably come to Europe first, then America.
Once again,
YYYYYYYYYYYEEESSS!!!!
What system is this game for?
TurboGrafx-16 CD (actually PC Engine Super CD since it was never originally released outside of Japan)
Awesome! Now they can finally release this and we can move on to crave other titles...like Castlevania Bloodlines and Legacy of Darkness (I know the last one is a near impossibility, but a man can dream, damn it!)
It is about bloody time. I've been wanting to play this for a long time. It better live up to the hype that people on this site have given it. If it is better than Super Castlevania IV then it must be truly amazing.
I'd whip that.
which is to say 'i would buy it and then play it', but i wanted to say something more suggestive, because that is more enjoyable to say
After this is released, that leaves EB, Chrono Trigger, Star Fox, KSS, Yoshi's Island, and Mario Party as the most oft requested games for the VC (excluding Rare titles and GoldenEye).
As much as I love Super Castlevania IV I'm pretty sure Rondo blows it away. For one thing the music is CD quality orchestrated bliss. I don't think any 2-D non Castletroid even compares.
The ESRB sucks! They tease you with titles like Earthbound. That one's been rated for quite some time now and a VC release is nowhere in sight. Not that I give a crap about Earthbound, but other people need to be happy too.
Glad to see it rated. I figured it was gonna be rated soon enough.
Awesome, I just finished Aria of Sorrow so another Castlevania game is just what I need.
Well, I'm not FINISHED Aria of Sorrow, but I beat the final boss. Now I'm playin' through as Julius.
@Pixel - The game itself is already translated on the domestic release of Dracula X Chronicles for PSP, so the work has already been done to the ROM.
All we need now is Castlevania Bloodlines (Genesis) and we're set.
I wouldn't be surprise if this would be our 350th game in case we don't get an first-party title instead.
:: drools ::
@49: U mean 350th release. Unless Nintendo is taking games from us. ha. O, by the way, if we continue with one release it won't be until March for 350.
So if this came out and MegaMan 10 is expected for March then it will be a pretty sweet month. Plus, I'm waiting for God Of War III and FFXIII which is also expected in March.
The parallax scrolling is dazzling, without spoiling anything.
what is "imo"
I can already play Rondo on the PSP. Now Castlevania Bloodlines however is another story...
@734 - imo stands for: in my opinion.
finally thank you
I need some Wii points really fast.
Oh please please please
I will be picking up some Points this weekend so the Wii will be prepared on any given Monday for this Castlevania awesomeness.
Is it still worth picking up a psp for the remake, assuming one buys this?
this game is awesome. it's like rebirth with even more of a retro feel, if that makes sense.
We all shouldn't be too surprised this is coming to Western territories. I mean if they're going to give us DoReMi Fantasy, a game that isn't nearly as infamous, they're going to give us Rondo. I'm more surprised it's taking as long as it is but at least we know for sure now.
I also heard the VC version had superb emulation, especially compared to the somewhat shoddy port on the PSP Dracula X Chronicles. Definately going to pick this up as soon as it hits the shop. But yeah, not counting the N64 games and the inferior SNES Dracula X, Bloodlines is the only game I need to complete my Castlevania collection.
I'll be waiting.
I like to see this and SOTN as a singular duology of anime Castlevanias, and forget about the anime assimilation the series has gone through.
This is great news. It's a really good game and one I haven't completed. The music is quite good though it's not a true orchestrated score, it's lowish quality synth work but still better than a lot of the other games. The only real downfall to the music is the level completion music is done with the TG16 audio chip so it sounds a bit out of place. The intro level alone is really cool in this game and some of the large enemy sprites are quite amazing.
Lovely game that looks alot like Syphony of the Night. Along with the just mentioned and Castlevania IV, this is one of the best Catlevania's ever made. Love the little secrets and multiple route through the game: they all add depth and replay value, as does the choice of two characters. This is easily the most polished and best PC Engine title (TurboGrafx), and the system has an abundance of GRADE-A titles!
YES!!!!!!! =D
@bendover83: Sorry about that mistake, I fixed it already.
Hooray for the fact that Richter looks like Ryu from Street Fighter!!
What is the difference between snes dracula x and the T16 rondo of blood ???????????
@734 - I looked up that, though they may practically share the same name, they are completely different games. But the plotline is still the same, as far as I looked up.
I haven't played the SNES Castlevania: Dracula X/Vampire's Kiss game, but I believe it's not as bad as it's often made out to be.
I have the PSP version already, but it's great to see that all the American non-PSP owners finally have the chance to play the best old-school Castlevania of all time. (IMO)
Now with any luck Bloodlines will quickly follow suit!
|sf>I have the PSP version and I've started it (although it's a tough game, so I'm only around the first boss). However, I'll consider double-dipping on this one after I buy some of the other VC titles that are in my backlog. When I used to be on the TGX mailing list years ago, this version was given very high praise. I was also impressed by what I played on the PSP as well, because the beginning felt very unique.
In either case, I'm glad to see the ESRB rating, but there's also the possibility it might be saved for Halloween week. I hope we don't see a bunch of people complaining every single time a Monday update happens without Rondo.
Don't get too excited folks, I just read on Gamefaqs that a recent gonintendo article said that the game will not be in English but Japanese. At least I still got the PSP version.
I don't mind what language it's in. In fact, sometimes I play Akumajou Dracula X with the Japanese language on in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.
Right now this is the game I want more then any other on the VC. I have wanted to play this game for years and it looks like I might finally get the chance.
im getting this pronto! This series is the funniest, non of that hard 3-d stuff
