@sleepinglion Thank you for being the one to point it out. My exact thoughts on the subject are quite similar, though you can put them into words far more eloquently than I could (and also a whole lot nicer).
Wow. I picked up untold last time it was on sale, just beat it literally half an hour ago, and actually thought to myself "I wonder if they are working on a new Etrian game." This must be a sign.
Darn. I know I was pessimistic about this for a while, but I was sincerely hoping that I would be pleasantly surprised. Well at least now I have the bittersweet satisfaction of being able to say "called it."
@FallenAfh I never said that putting the game on IOS services was a bad business move. In terms of profit, yes they probably will get more money for it. That isn't the problem. The problem is that IOS devices are 100% touch screen based. There is a reason why simple games such as Angry Birds get so popular on the app stores: minimal input. Touch screens that require finger presses (As opposed to a stylus) will always be slightly imprecise and clunky, due to the size of a human finger. To that end, controlling an entire full fledged action RPG with just your fingers is a terrible control scheme. A game like this is FAR more suited to a console WITH ACTUAL BUTTONS. That's what I mean when I say that Square Enix does not care about the consumer anymore. They are solely looking for a profit. Before you leap to conclusions assume I'm even more of an idiot than you already have, I will repeat, from a business perspective, that makes sense. But the people who actually care about the series, and actually have a love for video games, will actually want to play a game such as this on a device with buttons. If Squeenix cared at all about the people who have made them who they are, they would put this on other consoles.
Hm... Looks pretty decent. The gameplay looks similar to the original, but now with more than one attack, which is always a plus. As long as you can't just wreck everything in sight with the new moves, all should be well there. The music, while not quite as catchy as the original or seiken densetsu 3, definitely feels like it belongs in a Mana game. Definitely looking forward to that!
One fatal flaw... CURSE YOU IOS! This game looks like it would be absolutely PERFECT for the 3DS or even the PS Vita! But no. Square Enix refuses to put actual games on dedicated gaming platforms anymore. I'm beginning to worry that they don't care about the consumer at all anymore.
This trailer looks better than the last few, but I am decidedly not sold on that art style. Looks like the helicopter transformation will be based on the gyroscope, which is always a bit weird, but it could definitely work. Also, is it just me, or is this slower paced than the original? Everything seems a lot more... floaty. Also, I noticed that you can't instantly aim an egg up in this version. In the original, if you just held up on the d-pad, THEN went into a firing stance, it would instantly be pointing up, which allowed for faster aiming. I think this one will have good level design, and even maybe good additions to the series, but the general flow of the gameplay just looks like it's been butchered.
I know its more of a "bullet hell" than a SHMUP, but I can't help but mention the fact that the touhou series is more well known than water and more profitable than oil in Japan at the moment, despite there being only a few dozen "official" games.
It's probably not helping the current difficulties that are limiting development of SHMUP's at the moment as a huge population of japanese gamers are getting their top down shooter fix in the form of bullet hells, either from touhou itself or fan games made in similar style.
I don't see why certain people think that the 3DS version is holding the series back. The only limitation that the 3DS is currently posing is that there won't be a huge number of new fighters. The only downgrade that is being made overall is that the graphics will be somewhat worse and the controls will probably suffer a little bit. Its not like their completely altering game mechanics to make the game fit on the 3DS; they're just not adding as many characters as possible. I honestly think that a few less characters are a worthy sacrifice to be able to play Smash on the go. Besides, fewer characters means that the characters who are their get polished a lot more. Technically, brawl had roughly 39 different characters (counting zelda and sheik as two, samus and ZS Samus as two, pokemon trainer as three) and some of the new characters were unbalanced as all heck. Having fewer new characters to balance and make fair is a whole lot easier when there are less of them.
Also I don't have a wii u so the 3DS version is the only one I can play. There are actually people in that situation.
it will cost less than $10! FALSE sales tax (which for some stupid reason is applied on eshop money rather than real money; the stupidest system ever as eshop credit is "rarer" than normal money) ramps it up to almost $11.
Am I the only one who despised the original game? I felt like I was never progressing at all. The character never improved over time (except for shop items which were just extensions, nothing new in any way), so it got stale and boring by about level 3. Also, each level was practically a waste if you didn't get all 100 medals, and the lack of any sort of health restore item in game made each level brutal to complete.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this, but I just really hate this game.
@belmont they sell them for three reasons, actually. First of all, they have contracts with video game publishers to sell products created by the companies. Secondly, they sell them for convenience. Video game retailers (despite common belief) are not heartless monsters. Where else are you going to buy a purchase code for minecraft? The common consumer will automatically think of a game store, such as gamestop or GAME. Third, most people don't just come in, buy a prepaid card and walk out. Most of the time, a person will purchase something alongside the card. This is what actually earns them revenue. Anything that brings a customer into the store at all is considered good business. to prove this last point, ever notice how the prepaid cards are never at the front of the store? They put them near the cash register or at the back, so you either have to look for them amongst other products or make eye contact with a cashier, who will usually attempt to push another sale on you. So technically, retailers do generally earn a profit on prepaid cards, but not directly because of them. Its all business, convenience, and bringing in customers.
@belmont Prepaid cards don't work that way. Game retailers can only make profit on physical copies of games (and used consoles, and accessories, and this that and the other thing but you get my point regarding the games themselves). When you buy a prepaid card, 100% of the profit goes to the company that produced said prepaid card. For example, buying a nintendo eshop card will give the retailer a profit of absolutely nothing, and all profits go directly to nintendo.
I'm amazed no one has said this yet. THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU 2. If they literally walk onto a stage and say "it exists; here's a trailer; here's a potential release quarter. The end." I would be more than satisfied.
The fact that EA can use the word "Fifa" and "innovative" in the same sentence without separating them with the words "is absolutely not" shows that they still haven't realized that they're beating a dead horse that could easily be brought back to life with simple DLC.
Alternative ending to that sentence: shows that they still have absolutely no idea what they are doing in any way, shape, or form.
I wish they would give us the official release date of June 20th. Unfortunately, strict policies prevent them from telling us that the release date is June 20th.
Actually, this looks like it has potential. there are a few minor changes I would like to see, but overall, this game could be quite a solid platformer.
@highwinter
Alright, I have legitimately stopped caring about this issue. I never said that it was MORALLY right. However, as a business, Nintendo has made the right decision, as Japanese standards are so much different than ours.
You have the right to your opinion, all I did was remove the 'lulz', as you put it — TBD
And thus, people have inevitably began to whine and complain about something that has to do with cultural differences. Remove the feature, its homophobia, patch and make the feature official, and its major problems for ninty Japan. No right option here people. Nintendo did what they had to do to keep themselves from getting torn apart in the homeland. It really is that simple.
Okay yeah, I know I was kinda out of line with my comments before but I'm starting to agree with theblackdragon.
This is not the place to debate stuff. Its a glitch. It may or may not be "fixed" whatever your definition of "fixed" may be. Everyone has their own opinions, mine and several others happen to be religious. Let's be honest: no one cares.
I refuse to believe this until it is 100% official. I've been disappointed by squeenix far to many times recently to believe that they could actually do something that won't **** off their fanbase, so I'm not getting my hopes up again.
Can't really say I'm surprised. Squeenix's recent performance has been atrocious. Not localizing their good games and supporting nothing but the iphone (which has almost no market for a game that costs more than $10)... Also, I'm still incredibly bitter about the whole "twewy solo remix" ordeal. I hold one heckuva grudge, and squeenix has done little to nothing to redeem themselves recently. Tomb Raider 2013 is pretty good, but that's also a seperate branch, so I don't consider it a part of the "main" square enix.
@AbeVigoda wait, what? I never said it was "meaningless," just that it's inaccurate. That's why I never even bothered paying attention to the 3DS sales as of late. The fact is, the most important times to analyze a console's amount "units shifted" (for lack of a better term) are in it's first week to see how successful it was initially, and after the console dies off, aka, the final number of consoles sold. I'm not even that much of a ninty fanboy anymore, (meaning I'm not biased) and I know that the vita has a ****load of potential. But let me guess, the only way I would NOT be considered a "fanboy" from your point of view would be if I said something along the lines of the following: ahem OH YEAH, THE VITA IS DOING AWESOME! @bankai "but it's absurd to think SE is not trying to make high quality, marketable games for a mass audience." Let me introduce you to a little game called "Final Fantasy: All The Bravest." I don't really classify that game as "high quality"
Square enix has literally no right to complain about taking a heavy loss. They have been releasing nothing but **** for months, and teasing fans the entire time. New twewy game? NOPE. remake for the ios. Week long teaser site, too. Bravely default localization? NOPE. Greedy, terrible final fantasy ios game. They can't complain about poor sales on consoles, because they haven't released anything DECENT on consoles for a long time.
Square enix is getting progressively more dead to me. They used to care about making fantastic games and pleasing their fans. Now all they care about is the ios.
Honestly, I am ecstatic that Pokemon is finally making the jump to 3D. We haven't had a true 3D game since xd: gale of darkness/ It's great to see that the main series is going in that direction. It's also about time Ninty released a main series pokemon game for the 3DS. So psyched for this!
Everyone keeps saying that there will be a RS remake, but I doubt thats going to happen. The reason gamefreak even remade GS was because it would have been impossible to complete the national pokedex if someone only had a dsi (which was incapable of migrating pokemon from RSE and fire red/leaf green). The release of HGSS made it possible to catch all 493 pokemon at the time, and since pokemon can be transferred from the gen 4 games into the gen 5 games, RS does not NEED to be remade. Contrary to popular belief, game freak did not remake GS to appease the fans; that was just a side effect.
tl;dr: there is no "reason" for game freak to remake RS, and there won't be until the DS games become obsolete. In other words, there will never be a RS remake on the 3DS
Dear gamefreak, Please prove me horribly wrong. I want a RS remake so bad...
Honestly, this game seems to be a poor man's version of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, a retail DS that has done all of the things this game does better. Sorry for the terrible grammar in that last sentence, but you know what I mean.
Anyways, great review. Was interested in this, but I had a bad hunch about it that was just confirmed.
My main problem with ditching rpg elements for this new game was that fighting enemies suddenly felt useless. Less than useless, actually. Without experience points, there is nothing to be gained from the battles at all, other than losing your precious, LIMITED stickers and guaranteed losing of health (unlike the M&L series where all attacks can be avoided somehow). Losing the rpg element of experience points while keeping the rpg element of separate battle screens feels like a poor design choice. I cannot tell you how relieved I am when I hit a goomba with my hammer and see it die immediately and not have to go into an official battle sequence. While I can understand the ideas behind it and I can respect the innovation of the game, I have to say it just doesn't work well at all. In truth, playing sticker star just made me REALLY want to break out my old N64 and play the original paper mario again.

Re: Review: Pokémon Black and White 2 (DS)
Lets be honest. Even if this game got a 1, most people would still buy it.
Re: Feature: Diamonds in the Rough - Dementium: The Ward
I've played the sequel a few times. Great game, I must say. So creepy it goes full circle and is almost comical.

@ undead_terror
That is far to expensive. They should pay you to download the game in order to punish EnjoyUp games.
