Re: Nintendo Download: 5th February 2010 (Europe)

Cipher

Europe also gets a game only available in Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Luxembourg:

"New English Training: Learn with Tempo - Starter Edition"
Genre: English course
Publisher: Nintendo
Price: 800 Nintendo DSi Points

Plenty of fun exercises help you pick up enough English to communicate in everyday situations. Speak out loud and master the basics in this edition for beginners!

Sounds like a cut-down version of the English Training game released a few years ago to me.

Re: Japan to Get Wii Budget Range

Cipher

Mmm. Will be checking the ratings of recently-discontinued games on The Nintendo Channel later on.

Also, those box arts are... awful. Really, really awful.

Re: British R4 Card Importer Shipping Off To Prison

Cipher

@MarcusA - re your comment on Spain, it is the only country that has ruled as such. Every other country in the world that has been forced to make a ruling on R4 has ruled it illegal. Therefore your argument is flawed and invalid. Just because Spain deems it legal, other countries will not follow suit. Re your comment on Nintendo using the Homebrew Channel, this is why we constantly have analysts, developers and even people inside Nintendo telling us that what Nintendo Australia (not Nintendo as a whole) is doing is wrong and that this is one of many reasons that Nintendo is failing in Oceania.

Also, why is it just Nintendo that are apparently being "illegal" because of the fact that they say you can't develop for them legally without an SDK? The same applies to PlayStation, Xbox 360 and their downloadable services. The same applied to Dreamcast and every SEGA system before it. If you accuse Nintendo of being illegal in what they do, you accuse Microsoft, Sony and SEGA of the same, among others.

Re: Reggie: No New Console Successor Anytime Soon

Cipher

I didn't expect a successor until 2014 or 2015 anyway, but still, it's a shame that Wii can't do HD even with any sort of system update. The hardware just isn't powerful enough, not even for 720p. I have never been big on graphics - one of the least important aspects for me - but with HD becoming standard I don't want Nintendo to start lagging behind.

Re: Nintendo No Longer Publishing Metroid Prime Trilogy in US

Cipher

I think this might be the case here in the UK too. I just checked GAME and they're out of stock - and, unlike with other games that are out of stock, there's no option to be informed when they get more stock in. Which I assume means they won't get more stock in.

Buying my copy. NOW.

Re: Sega to Abandon Mature Wii Audience?

Cipher

I love SEGA for the fact that they still recognise the mature audience for Wii. I think the only company who can assure people that Wii has a mature audience, though, is Nintendo. Disaster: Day of Crisis was absolutely a step in the right direction, but they need to advertise the hell out of it, and do the same when (and they should) release it in the States. Hell, even the black Wii has helped - a few of my friends have picked it up now and have asked me for details about such titles as MadWorld and The House of the Dead. But all these games simply need much more exposure than they're getting.

Re: Club Nintendo Australia Left Behind

Cipher

Nintendo of Australia is poorly-run and has made some very shambolic decisions in the past. Control of the Nintendo subsidiary for Australasia needs to be taken over either by Nintendo of Europe (to keep it a PAL region) or Nintendo Company Ltd. (for convenience, since Japan is closeby).

Re: Review: Planet 51 (Wii)

Cipher

I thought, if this is a movie tie-in and it's from SEGA, there's no point me giving it any coverage on my own site. I'm now rather glad I made that decision. Still, you're right, kids who like the film will probably like this too, so SEGA will still make money out of it.

Re: Nintendo Cutting Back On Wii Production?

Cipher

The first thing that comes to mind for me is "what goes up, must come down." Wii has been more successful than most other home consoles, if not all of them, and sooner or later the console itself will run aground. The games on it certainly won't, but eventually there will be so many Wii consoles out there that they just won't sell any more. If Wii HD does happen - which I personally doubt somewhat - I certainly won't be buying one, because I don't NEED my games in HD. It would be lovely if they were, but that's not on my list of requirements for a games console.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Gets Perfect Score in Famitsu

Cipher

I think what some people need to remember is that this isn't one person saying "this deserves a 40." This is four people who, though might discuss the game itself, don't discuss the scores they're going to give it. It's feasible for all four people to say "this deserves 10 out of 10" because, frankly, it does. I'm actually surprised more games don't get 40s, though I'm sure there are some Craig Revel Horwood wannabes working for Famitsu who tend to be a bit harsher than others.

And I'm sorry, but there's no way in hell NSMB Wii is a 7/10.

Re: Pixmania: Wiimote Tech Is "Endangered"

Cipher

Natal is flawed. I know the Wii Remote is in some cases too, but if you're gonna use your body to do stuff like play football or table tennis or whatever, you might as well actually DO it rather than simulate it.

Re: New Zelda Wii Trailer Rumored For October

Cipher

THIS IS NOT FAIR

I'm on holiday for two weeks until October 1 and I'm not gonna be back to put this on my website!

Unless it's not on October 1, but it was October 2 last year, so I expect it will be.

Re: Mario, Luigi and Bowser Hit Europe in October

Cipher

I wasn't keen on Partners in Time - I had a lot of difficulty with the controls for four characters. If you leave it and pick it up again, it's almost impossible to get back into. I never played Superstar Saga, reckon I have to, but still very much looking forward to Bowser's Inside Story.

Re: Nintendo Rep: Bye VC, Hello WiiWare

Cipher

I don't think this is too much of a problem. There are plenty of other titles on Wii and WiiWare, and there is already a massive catalogue on the Virtual Console - if I want a new game, I can go on the VC and pick one out to play. And, this might shock you, but I'm not the only person who can do that.

Assuming this is an actual response from Nintendo, that is.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Only Multiplayer At Home

Cipher

I might get battered for this, but I expected this, and I'm glad of it. Just because something's multiplayer doesn't mean it should have online multiplayer as part of the package: this is the sort of game where I'd much rather have my friends over to play it than have to play with them online.

So, yeah, whereas I don't think much to Miyamoto's reasoning, I definitely think he's made the right decision.
