Re: Iwata: 3DS Games May Cost as Much as Wii Titles

Cipher

Can't say for other publishers, but here in the UK, Nintendo's DS titles are usually £30 or £35 whilst their Wii titles are often £35, £40 or £45. I would be happy to pay £35 for a 3DS game, and I think £40 would be an acceptable price tag for some, but any higher is too high.

Edit: Oh, and then there's the VAT hike from 4 January from 17.5% up to 20%, that'll up prices by a couple of pounds.

Re: DSiWare Will Not Be Transferable Unless Nintendo Makes Changes

Cipher

The way he says "until we do this, you can't do that", to me, sounds like they ARE going to do "this" - or, at least, they're planning it.

It doesn't affect me as I'll be keeping my DSi after I get my 3DS but I know there's an awful lot of people out there who'll trade one in for the other. For those people, this solution does need to come sooner rather than later and ideally a system-to-system transfer option should be in place ready for the 3DS's launch later in the year.

Re: Dennis Hopper Passes Away

Cipher

@Mik - You might have made the forum topic about his passing, but let's face it, this is world news, so has been mentioned on essentially every news channel the world over.

R.I.P. Dennis Hopper. I did kind of enjoy the SMB movie... dunno why, but I did. But other than that, he was a great actor and will be sorely missed.

Re: La Mulana Developers Discuss Religious and Rating Issues

Cipher

I'm against any form of game censoring, as I think it really limits a developer's imagination when shown in a game's censored form, but if censoring it secures a worldwide release, then so be it. It's a hefty price to pay, but if it has to be paid to ensure we get the game... it's a "lesser of two evils" sort of thing, I guess.

Re: Nintendo DS Now Best-Selling Handheld

Cipher

Does DS deserve the accolade as much as the Game Boy did, though? As much as I absolutely adore the DS, the sheer number of casual DS owners who still call themselves "gamers" dirties the water for me a bit here.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Gets Bundled

Cipher

Surely this'll be for the new Wii package (at least, new in North America) rather than for the old one? Continuing to produce the old package, even with Super Mario Galaxy 2 thrown in, is a silly idea.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Lands with Bonus DVD

Cipher

@RadioShadow - In the US, the game costs $50 (£32). Here in the UK, it costs £35. If we got the game three months after the States did, I could understand someone importing, but when we get it two-and-a-half weeks after the States, and we get an extra DVD to boot, I can't possibly understand your reasoning behind importing.

Re: Review: Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube)

Cipher

I absolutely adore this game - yes, SM64 and Galaxy are better, and I would have to agree with a 9, purely because of the blue coins - but for some reason it just clicks with me. One of my favourite games.

Re: Happy "Nintendo Life" Anniversary!

Cipher

Has it only been a year?! Good lord, it seems a lot longer than that...

In a good way, of course! Love the site, it really has become one of the biggest Nintendo sites there is - one of the world's leading ones, no doubt.

Re: Nintendo's 3DS Announcement Wasn't Supposed to Happen Like That

Cipher

If this is true, I can't say I'm surprised. That said, I still think this has worked very well in Nintendo's favour. It's created a great amount of hype and it'll keep people talking until the revelation at E3. It's unfortunate for those who wanted to get an XL or have recently bought a DS or DSi, but hey, nobody's forcing you to buy the 3DS as soon as it comes out.

Re: DS Successor To Offer 3D Gaming

Cipher

"April fools."

Yeah, of course. Considering it's March 23 and this is an official PDF from the official Nintendo website in Japan where people don't do April Fools' Day.

Re: Review: Super Mario 64 DS (DS)

Cipher

Ouch. 7/10? Nuh-uh. I'd probably give this an 8.5 or a 9.0. The touch-screen controls aren't great, given, but they're good, and the D-Pad works brilliantly.

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - February 2010

Cipher

I'm sorta glad things are slowing down - even though there are a hell of a lot of SNES and N64 games I wish Nintendo would hurry up and put on the service, I've got a lot of games to finish myself, and I'm also getting the time now to buy games from the service that I never owned before.

Re: Live Text: European Gamers Summit 2010

Cipher

Also important to note - the OFLC has rated both Art Style titles. Art Style: light trax seems to retain its North American name whilst Art Style: Rotozoa looks to have had a name change to Art Style: Penta Tentacles in PAL regions.

Re: Live Text: European Gamers Summit 2010

Cipher

@LEGEND MARIOID - Mmm, just run a check on their website - they have it listed as a separate title to Span Smasher so I think they've probably got that wrong. Both the NOA and NOE conferences confirmed it was still a Wii title. Still, that could always change, I guess.

Re: Live Text: European Gamers Summit 2010

Cipher

@killer6370: Or, maybe becayse rather than releasing Mario, S&P and Metroid in late May, early June and late June, they want to stack them into June, May and July/August respectively? Three great games in three or four months is far better than three great games in five weeks.

Re: Live Text: European Gamers Summit 2010

Cipher

I'm not surprised it was fairly short - everyone already knows what NOA had on offer yesterday so all NOE had left to do was announce some European dates. Still glad we have a solid date for SMG2.

Re: New Trademark for Eternal Darkness

Cipher

Is this a new trademark or a renewal of the old one? Luigi's Mansion was a new trademark rather than a renewal, if I recall correctly, so... who knows. Hopefully these are new titles because Wii needs a "second generation", I think.
