DSi XL appeals to the older generations for the most part, whereas 3DS doesn't. So I can understand this. I actually think it makes perfect sense to sell the DSi XL and the 3DS side-by-side so people still have that choice.
A price drop for the standalone XL wouldn't go amiss, though. Even if only by $10.
@KomicZ Yeah, once you've bought and downloaded the films, they stay on your system. Even if you delete them, you can still redownload them from eShop for free, since they don't expire.
Ouch! I really enjoyed this - this and Luigi's Mansion were the two games I got with my GameCube. Really cool game and, while the controls and the camera did cause problems, I loved the game and especially the Chao Garden. I definitely agree with you about the camera and the car segments, but on the whole I really liked everything else. I'd give it a 7 personally (not that the scores are the be-all and end-all, but that's what I'd give it).
NCL's using an icon of the current 3DS to promote the event, so I can't see 'em showing off new hardware since they'd have to change the event's branding. Didn't trust 01net's report anyway, but I'm hoping this is the final nail in that very unwelcome coffin.
Super Mario Bros. 3DS would be brilliant - I'm not fussed in the slightest, though. Just so long as we get a few new 3DS games announced, I'll be happy.
@edhe I go into a shop and buy a bar of chocolate for £1.20. Whilst eating the bar of chocolate, my mum says to me "you know, if you lived in America, that'd only cost you 80p." What do I care? I got the chocolate. I'm enjoying the chocolate. Nummy nummy.
Yes, of course I would have preferred to pay 40p less, but I'm not complaining. I enjoyed the product. If every game I bought from eShop was marred with the thought of "damn, I wish this cost as little as it does in North America", I wouldn't enjoy the eShop experience, or even playing the game, as much.
Besides, it doesn't just apply to downloadable games. It applies to retail titles and hardware as well - and many other things in life besides video games. The cost of living in America is considerably lower than it is in the UK, and I don't think NOE taking £1.80 off the price of a game is going to make paying the rent or my car insurance any easier for me.
tl;dr - Yes, of course, but I'm more than happy to pay £5.40.
It doesn't affect me personally since I have a Visa debit card, but I used to rely on Wii Points cards when I first got a Wii, so I can understand people being frustrated over the lack of Nintendo eShop prepaid cards.
As far as I'm aware, Nintendo Company Ltd. has no control over North America's digital transactions - it's been said on occasion that both NOA and NOE now have dedicated eShop divisions - so I don't see that they would have control over European digital transactions. I'd put this down to NOE.
Nintendo eShop itself, I think, is great. I have no problems with it. But I do think NOE needs a swift kick in the nobblers to get the prepaid cards out, because they need to be out now.
Another mistake NOE has made and will learn from. With any luck, Wii U will use the Nintendo eShop platform and we won't have to worry about this again come next Christmas.
London Life is bound to be in all versions of the game. I expect the only difference in the North American version is that it's available from the start, whereas in the Japanese and European versions of the game you have to beat the main game before being able to access it.
There's no way LEVEL-5 would remove such a popular - and huge - feature from one of their games for one region. No way.
This is probably their annual Nintendo Conference, right? So if that's the case, we can expect some new games to be revealed for Wii, 3DS and possibly even DS. I'd question how big a presence Wii U would have, though if we saw some more tech demos and learnt a few more tech specs, I'd be good with that.
Just as long as Nintendo doesn't reveal a revamped 3DS, it's all going to be fine. crosses fingers
@BJQ1972 Doesn't say anywhere in the article that it's "plaguing" Wii owners. It just says "some" Wii owners are being affected by it, which is perfectly true.
My Wii won't read dual-layer discs despite having been repaired by Nintendo (albeit back in 2008) and the lens cleaned with the official product from Nintendo.
Need to send my Wii back for repair anyway since it's not reading any dual-layer discs at the moment.
@James As far as I was aware, Mario Party 9 and Rhythm Paradise were dated "TBA" at E3, which I assumed meant "2012 at the earliest". As for Mario & Sonic, we have dates for the Wii game (15/11 US, 18/11 EU). Similar situation for Generations, which we know is coming in November too.
@JakeTheChao It was never planned to launch this month. One of Nintendo's press sites had the game pegged down for the end of the year, but for some reason, they randomly gave it an August date. They did the same with Skyward Sword and Fortune Street, and we know that's obviously not right. Super Mario Wiki took information they knew was wrong and published it anyway, which they shouldn't have done.
If you've played any of the Virtual Console games on the 3DS, the Resort Point function is in the Virtual Console menu - it lets you create a savestate of sorts, so you can load up to that point again whenever you want.
VC Suspend's basically the same as on Wii Virtual Console games as well, it remembers your place even after you've gone back to the menu. At least, I think it does.
@Dragoon You can still use the save functions included in the Game Boy Advance games themselves. Restore Point functionality will be available for "priority" NES games eventually and VC Suspend will be available from the off.
@Hardy83 I accept, and completely agree, that Nintendo's previous experience with online stores is poor - Iwata himself has said many times that WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare were failures and disappointments and that Nintendo would be revamping their online strategy with eShop. Given that, I see no reason to doubt him, and my own experience with eShop so far has been incredibly positive - I think it's a much better store than either of Nintendo's previous stores.
I also think, believe it or not, Nintendo's release strategy is much better now that we only get one game (or two) a week - we've had a number of fantastic titles so far and I'm building up quite an impressive watch list for games to buy when I'm done with the ones I've got.
Call me a fool but I see great potential in eShop, I think Nintendo's doing things right so far, and I have complete faith in them.
@James it's on eShop in the UK if you check the list of new software. It's got a game page and is dated for next week.
Oh, yeah, the 3DS Virtual Console is dead, everyone should sell their 3DS systems and quit while they're ahead. For crying out loud, some people's lack of faith and the speed with which they can lambast Nintendo is completely shameful.
Capcom's first mistake was to let the fans have a say in this for two reasons. First, I don't think they anticipated the sheer level of interest that the project would bring to the Devroom and it became impossible for the game to go ahead.
Second, I'm willing to bet that a considerable number of games - including major titles - are pitched and never see the light of day, which is what happened with MML3. Capcom making the fans aware of this project made them think that MML3 would definitely happen, that the prototype version would definitely be released. Capcom themselves stated several times that this project had not been greenlit, giving anyone who wasn't happy with that fact the opportunity to take a step back.
Capcom shouldn't have given the fans free roam over this project and I'm now a tad concerned for the company, mainly because of the frankly unprecedented backlash they've received over on the Devroom. I'm not really sure what to think, but I half expect it all to blow over in a few days' time - at least, I hope it does.
I remember someone from the staff saying quite a while back that Move and Kinect were focused on due to them being new technology - the PS3 and X360 had been out for quite some time by then so there was a considerable library of games for them both. Expansions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 3, maybe?
Makes sense, I think - too many high-profile titles launching for Nintendo systems so soon before Christmas. Launching this in the early part of next year ensures 2012 will start off well, alongside the likes of Luigi's Mansion 2 and (I'm assuming) Paper Mario and Animal Crossing.
@sgotsch Given that the Smash Bros. games probably won't land until either 2013 or 2014, I doubt a Kid Icarus delay would have a noticeable impact on those titles.
@daze0f_theweak Yes, because this is the only Final Fantasy game that's ever going to be released for the 3DS and we're never, ever going to get a proper RPG from the series on a Nintendo console ever again.
All this is is Square Enix trying something new with Final Fantasy, and I personally think it's a good thing they're trying it out on the 3DS. It sounds intriguing and it could be good, but even if it isn't we know there will be more Final Fantasy games to come for the system.
Well, this isn't surprising, since it was shown off at E3 2010 as a demo for the 3D Classics range. As much as I do enjoy the fact that Nintendo's pushing lesser-known titles for the range, I would still like to see some of their bigger franchises make an appearance. Either of the two Super Mario World titles would do me just fine.
I can see this sort of thing not being a problem with certain games, but with a game like Mercenaries, where there are unlockables, there should really be the option to wipe the data. At the same time, if I were to buy a preowned game, I would certainly expect data to already be on it, so... I don't know.
What, these guys expected that in a turnaround time of six days, Nintendo of America would go from not releasing the games to deciding to release them? That's not possible, that's just stupid.
I'm sure NOA is, at the very least, considering their options now. These games would sell much better to a Wii U audience, given the sheer stack of core titles we know are coming to the system.

I still think it'll launch under Nintendo in North America, but I don't think it'll launch until next year at this point. There's absolutely no way Nintendo of America could decide against releasing it when they know full well how much people want it.
Japan got the Nintendo 3DS a month before the rest of the world so they've had to wait a month longer for eShop - I expect that's got something to do with the number of games they're getting.
To be honest, I much prefer the rate we're getting games at than the rate they're getting games at. As Yasume said, I've got Ocarina, Link's Awakening DX and Donkey Kong, which are keeping me going nicely. The Japanese eShop might have three or four other games that I want, but I certainly don't want them yet. If Nintendo gives me time with the titles I've downloaded, then I'm happy - as long as they don't throw too many in my face too quikckly like they did with Wii VC and WiiWare.
This is a free download from the Wii Shop Channel, Wii only, and will be available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Greece, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Australia and New Zealand, according to Nintendo UK.
@Gavin_Rozee Safe to assume this is the final list - Airport Mania was released last Thursday. I think NOE may still be having some problems with their website, since it's listed as Friday 24th, which of course wouldn't be the case anyway.
I really enjoyed playing this game when I was younger - it was one of the first games I got with my N64. Still haven't made my mind up about the DS version, though.

Can't wait to try out FAST... though since my Wii's just gone in for repair I guess I'll have to.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th October 2011 (Europe)
Well, that's just weird. Surely there must be some DSiWare games in the backlog? There are tons in North America that we don't have yet.
No matter. Metroid II at some point this month would be nice, then I'll forget this thing ever happened.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th October 2011 (North America)
@Raptor78 2pm in the UK, not long left now.
We're getting Golf on 3DS VC, the NOE site updated with that, but as for the rest of the services - who knows.
