It's almost as if this has all just been made up.

Tempted by Xenoblade 2, but must face the facts I still need to finish XC1 and XCX, even if I loved them!

Tempted despite knowing I probably don't have the time to play this. The TurboGFX port was great (but very hard) and I enjoyed forcing my way through it with restore points. I think the infinite ships option here sounds a more fun way to experience it. And it has the second game...

@RupeeClock I picked up KAMIKO for that price last year and it's a great fun little game. Recommended.

Nice, but a bit pricey. A second hand Wii with a component cable will suffice for most purposes (excluding the Gameboy Player and Phantasy Star Online).

@BionicDodo That's a great list of games, many of which I enjoyed back in the day. Must rescue my A420 from my parents loft. I gather the Raspberry Pi can run RiscOS natively and some developers have kindly released ROMs so that these old games can be played with their blessing. Will have to look into that!

@Bunkerneath Wow - another person raised on Acorn Archimedes games! It did get occasional conversions of popular 16 bit games back in the day. I loved "Gods". Must admit I never got to try Speedball 2.

I wish they would start allowing access to games from more recent systems - even it these started as limited time "events" in amongst these NES games.

I ordered the international edition when the priced dropped a little. More games on this edition does not compensate for that look however.

To me the weekly Nintendo download list is the most important regular feature on the site - ever since I first started reading it in the VC reviews days. Obviously with the volume of releases at this point it represents a lot of work for the site, but I would hate to see it get less priority than other articles.

I feel a bit underwhelmed so far by this online service. I was necessary to get the family subscription for my child to play Splatoon 2. The NES games are not really much of a draw and I have only briefly dabbled with them.
It is a cheap service, but that is reflected in the current meagre offering. I hope it develops in a more interesting direction!

I've plumped for Bulb Boy and Inside on the current discounts. Worth mentioning that the (currently discounted?) Cave Story+ has a delightful (but not scary) seasonal Halloween theme right now! And co-op on Switch. Defintely worth the upgrade from the free PC version whilst on discount.

@SBandy I think I commented more about RDR2 to highlight there is something big happening elsewhere in gaming at the moment - it provides some context for the Nintendo downloads this week.

And I understand your argument.
I like the Switch and recognise its limitations, but that doesn't mean I don't on occasion wish some of the bigger, shinier, epic releases available elsewhere would make it across.
Am I salty? Nope. I would have invested in other formats long ago if I was bothered. And I'm too busy with too many other responsibilities as a grown up to need to!

Lots of games. However I can't play Red Dead Redemption on Switch...

In all seriousness the Switch for me does not have the convenience of form factor that the DS series offered. My days of frequent gaming on the go are long gone, but I doubt I would be carrying my Switch with me daily in any case - it's just too bulky once its in the protective case.
I dare say a hardware revision down the line may address this, similar to the jump from DS "Phat" to DS Lite...

Good discounts on Isaac and Ikaruga (which I already have). Why am I tempted by the CaveStory+ sale when I can play the original version for free?

I really enjoyed what I played of XCX. I still need to finish it - more a comment on my own limited time and attention span... I think it deserves a remake.

@Damo I'm playing the Dracula X Chronicles version of SOTN right now too. I bought a Vita just so I could finally play it. I didn't know there were different localisations. And now after reading this I will have to carry the pain of knowing I'm playing the "inferior" version! :-0

I recently bought a 2nd hand Vita essentially to play Symphony of the Night which is an unlock in Dracula X Chronicles. Must play it more!

The most fun I had was as a phantom on the one run where I got through the whole level and the boss was defeated... very much not based on my efforts!

I have always been interested to try this so the network test was a good opportunity. I think it has probably saved me from getting a game I won't make much headway in.

I played Chapter 1 for free from the Android Play store. Enjoyable enough voice and visuals, but it did feel like the game was almost playing itself...

I wanted to pre-order the Neo Geo Mini this week but was horrified by the price hike in the UK, so I haven't. And now I feel sad. First World Problem, obviously.

I'm not a fighting game player really but SC2 was a great experience on Gamecube. I'd be interested...

Trying out Street Fighter 30th Anniversary in the current sale. It's not really my style of gaming, but the nostalgia factor alongside a package full of arcade perfect titles has tempted me. I got halfway through Limbo on Android, I think the touch controls contributed somewhat to the difficulty spike I experienced.

@Shiryu Those drop offs do look useful in the Spectrum version! Similar to what I recall of the sequel.

I vaguely recall playing Target: Renegade on a friend's Zx Spectrum alongside Double Dragon in the late 80's. I loved the immediacy of those early beat 'em ups. In the arcades I loved dropping coins into Golden Axe and the TMNT games.

Is this the first game of the scrolling beat 'em up genre? Would be great if there could be some history briefly explaining that in the intro to the review if it really is.
