@DylanMcGrann Because video games are a horrible medium to use to attempt to immerse yourself in a culture. It's the equivalent of teaching or trying to supplement teachings of Japanese by watching anime. The way Japanese culture is portrayed in media such as TV or games is usually exaggerated or innacurate.
Thank you for this article. Even translations have to be subject to some bias as many things in Japanese simply do not translate into English well at all. Read any straight and dry translation from Japanese to English and it sounds like complete and utter garbage. Even writings like Shakespeare were edited by Shakespeare himself to be made appealing to more audiences.
While many people may be okay with things that are considered culturally innapropriate Nintendo isn't aiming for them. Both sides are extremely niche parts of the bigger audience that Nintendo is targeting, they sadly yet have to just pick a side that is less likely to nip them in the rear for their decision which is usually localizing content.
And please,let's not insist people who do not understand Japanese culture enough to the point of being able to comfortably play straight translations of games idiots or morons. Most people are obviously not very familiar with cultures outside their own and while I feel that's it's important to learn about other cultures video games are a horrible medium for that.
It still freaking baffles me the decisions they decided to go with the smaller N3DS. The utterly stupid name,refusing to make the console more accessable then not bothering to promote the thing (come on,they literally could have made a killing on faceplates),etc.
It's like Nintendo is once again refusing to acknowledge their demographic outside of Japan which I hope is fixed when NX comes out.
I question this as well. If this were something that could be used with playcoins I understand, but almost $1.99 (USD?) per play? What if you get multiples? Are certain badges rarer than others? This sounds like a horrible money sink, even worse than charging $2USD for themes that should honestly be free (Especially when you consider how pathetic the theme selection is in the US).
@tudsworth "I, also, acknowledge that I'm in the minority here, and I'm perfectly okay with that; the world doesn't revolve around my standards, and I don't expect it to."
Naw, I feel the same way. As much as I like the Yokai Watch anime seeing them do things like remove japanese text instead of translating it and referring to a curry bun as a whoopie pie kind of irks me.
@Olmectron I feel the same way about the Japanese games I follow. While English websites aren't dumping anything and everything about the game that isn't major clickbait title worthy the fandom on the other hand will be doing things like pointing out "X and Y dies!!!" "Secret character is my favorite character!!!!" "SPOILERS BUT [revealing entire story of the game for a meme]".
@amiiboacid Yeah...meanwhile we don't get preorders bonuses on anything (and if we do, they're retailer specific, mainly Gamestop who has a history of screwing over customers i.e. Jibanyan Pin debacle), we get memey translations, we get garbage "events" or events that are only available at Nintendo's single Store all the way in New York, and let's not forget random crap like making Fatal Frame download only meanwhile Devil's Third, a game that is getting 3's in reviews, is getting a physical version.
Let's not even talk about the amiibo situation, where it took them 8 months to finally stabilize stock of new amiibos and 5 months to confirm that rare ones were not being retired and yet common ones such as Smash Kirby, Yoshi, DK and others are now starting to become rare in the US...
I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Pokemon is no longer the big thing with kids and older fans have obviously noticed the main games (among other things) have been stagnating.
@AlliMeadow Was that a recent update? I thought Yokai Watch already outsold Pokemon in Japan, although maybe that was in the case of spin offs?
Err waiting for an article update guys! There seems to be some going back and forth as to what the actual new Club Nintendo's name is vs. what seems to be a new cloud based service.
My sides are in orbit, thanks Nintendo and everyone reporting this.
Like some people here, I wasn't really sure what they would do for mobile and I'd be really horrified if they went the SEGA route and simply slammed Mario into an endless runner. I'll reserve full judgement until March 2016; this could be big in Japan with the emphasis on "shy people sharing things with each other" but in the West...
Wow, I thought being Zelda & multiplayer Japan would be all over it, but I guess even they feel like this was a game "literally nobody asked for". I can't really see this game doing any better in the West. Even when there were enough people to play during the demo event it was hard to communicate with other people as to what to do and I'd see even online play getting boring after a while.
With all the 3DS games and the new system I bought I would certainly be interested in what they're replacing Club Nintendo with and how they'll reward old users who have still been supporting their games.
@Vandy
"But let's just keep shoe-horning those online features into everything because apparently no one has real-life friends anymore."
I'm not sure if you're aware of this....but in 2015.... many, many people actually have real friends who don't live near them (sometimes in another country!!!) but would like to play video games with them! What a shocker.......I guess that's why Xbox and Playstation have mostly up to date online features in a majority of their games and Nintendo doesn't (because they seem to think everywhere is Japan or stuck in 1995)?
@TheFatLucario
How? You're still interacting with people by playing the same game together. Why should people who do not have friends that conveniently live 5 minutes away from them not get to play together in Nintendo board games compared to Xbox/Playstation and...for goodness sake, Mobile games?
Otherwise, I'd take this info with a grain of salt. Reps can be wrong and things can change before release.
@Toadsfriend As much as I and many others would not want this to be Chibi Robo's last game, many of us do not want to support a game that would tell Nintendo to stray away from the original Chibi Robo formula. I do not understand what was going on in their heads to think that people wanted a beloved franchise with pretty fun gameplay to be turned into (what seems to be, from reviews and such) a generic platformer with a suspicious amount of food advertisements in it. "You want a new Animal Crossing/Chibi Robo/etc. so we'll give you these games in a format you don't even want them to be in", what.
@Kimite
You could always rally people to try and pull an Operation Rainfall/Operation Zero for Chibi Robo.
@freaksloan Some adults have smaller hands, some don't like the blown up graphics on the XL, some don't want to carry the larger model around, some love how customizable the smaller one is. The smaller model's release has no effect on you or anyone else that prefers the XL so there is no reason for you to be childishly name calling people for wanting options that appeal to them; especially when those options should have been out 7-8 months ago.
@mariovslink62 I want to hope they learned their lesson from the XL bundle fiasco but I'm guessing not. Good thing I still have my old working charger...
Three Words: Took Long Enough! I'm really, really hoping being bundle only (at least right now) doesn't kill it's chances of selling. Although I'm guessing Nintendo is trying to play it safe and ride on the waves of a popular game to help move units. I'm kind of wondering what triggered them to finally move forward with releasing it here, but I'm definitely going to save up and get one!
"This creepy fanservice game isn't actually very good"
Something that could easily be figured out after watching 15 minutes of gameplay. The unnecessary sexualization really hampers gameplay/story/etc.; but we all know you're not allowed to say that, you filthy gaijin prudes.
At least this is the only creeptrash game we're getting for a while.
@AJTsuki
Except we know there's "Special Edition" amiibo cards in Japan (Smiling Isabelle was exclusive to some magazine I believe) + "Rare" sparkle cards so we're back at square one I guess, unless Nintendo really does ramp up production of these cards.
@Kirk I have a feeling the only thing that would be considered damaging to the company would be Pranger yelling "SCREW NINTENDO!" and burning down his office to you.
"nothing he said was said in any way that could SERIOUSLY be considered damaging to the company." Revealing that Nintendo is having trouble localizing games, compared to ATLUS and XSeed which are able to localize games for a profit is obviously a negative statement that damages Nintendo's brand. The fact that he had to make fun of people who want niche games localized and essentially have this attitude that nothing players want is going to get localized is also damaging to Nintendo's brand. For whatever reason this seems to be a personal topic for you where you feel the need to lash out at others about it (and have an air of superiority). So I'll just leave it at that and ignore you now.
Did you guys not get enough $$$$ from the last article about this? What has already been said that hasn't? He spoke out of line. He revealed things that were obviously damaging to Nintendo (I seriously do not understand how people can read things like accusations that one of Nintendo's most infamous developers has a childish vendetta against competitive play and makes balances according to personal whim as "not that bad".) as both a brand and a company.
He insulted customers and demeaned them for wanting games like Captain Rainbow localized while accidentally revealing that Nintendo is having trouble localizing their own games (which is their fault?)
He more than likely said things that broke his NDA and as a result, got fired.
Unemployment sucks, but firing someone for talking garbage about your company isn't some sort of corporate evil.
@Cdc0028
So....everyone knew that NoE had to eat the cost of localizing Xenoblade Chronicles and it's essentially going on sale at a loss already? I seriously doubt that.
The only truth Chris has revealed (assuming everything he said is true) is that the business of localizing games is a sad one at NoA. Atlus and XSEED may be small companies that have lower operating costs/employees/etc. but the fact that they are able to churn out localized games one after another without having to cut corners should be a sign to Nintendo that they need to take notes.
"he shouldnt of lost a job over being honest to a consumer base that doesnt seem to understand the legistics of the company and constantly badgering them over localizing"
Of course people are constantly badgering them to localize things when they lock people out of playing games they want to play by region locking their consoles. Nobody is asking for everything under the sun to get localized and nobody (atleast here) seems to be misunderstanding the cost of localizing things. What gamers are complaining about is Nintendo being extremely stingy as to what they do finally decide to localize. From what Chris is saying Nintendo's attitude toward localizing niche titles is to do it as cheaply and quickly as possible which is just plain sad and a very good reason as to why they're losing money localizing in the first place.
What games are Nintendo even localizing in house this year that isn't Animal Crossing/Mario,etc. which was going to get localized anyways?
@Cdc0028 "Realistic" people do not insult their customer base, insult the products they represent, and they certainly do not reveal negative and damaging information about the company they work for to the public in a podcast.
@BlatantlyHeroic There's multiple things you can cite Nintendo being out of touch with but firing someone for clearly breaking their NDA, just like any other company, isn't one of them.
Since some of us are done responding to others, it should be pointed out that there is no difference between statements like "Super Smash Bros isn't a really good game" and "Super Smash Bros was made by a f*ing poser of a developer who eats trash out of a f*ing garbage can" when it comes to NDAs. Any type of negative comment towards a company and it's products, even if you claim that they are only "your opinion" is still a negative reflection on the company you are a part of. And really now he did reveal and say things that were out of line, especially about localization of games.
@Kirk
"Contracts usually say "if you do or say things that can be damaging to the company and brand"—and that has to be interpreted with some level of intelligence."
But that is exactly what saying "Super Mario 3D World wasn't a very good game" is. That's exactly what revealing things like Nintendo having random staff members do the voice acting for games is. Mocking customers and telling them that they're not buying enough games to warrant localization is exactly what "do or say things that can be damaging to the company and brand" is.
"I used to work for both Rare (when it was owned by Nintendo) and Rockstar North;"
So certainly you understand that NDAs and blabbing negatively about certain things means getting fired is a basic business standard and Nintendo nor any other business that enforces this policy isn't a corporate bad guy?
I mean really now when you reveal things such as Nintendo cutting costs on localization by having random staff do the voice acting and that Xenoblade Chronicles had to have NoE "bite the cost" of localizing it that's a horrible look into the current state of affairs for localizing games that aren't Animal Crossing/Mario/etc. Of course you'd get fired for revealing that among other things.
Wow....it's as if spouting nonsense that insults your customer base and makes the company you work for look bad may end up getting you fired... In other news, the sky is blue.
@doll "a lot of people seemed really angry. why? most of us don't work in game dev or publishing industries, and just because we want game x localized doesn't mean it's feasible or going to happen." It's understandable that not every single game can get localized but Chris' comments come off as exceedingly rude and essentially damage control the fact that Nintendo is overly conservative about what games they do and do not localize + most of the complaints about localization would be solved by not region locking their consoles.
@OlicityBlows
That's the severe problem people (especially in this comment section) are not getting. It would be one thing if like, the villain was raping and engaging in incest but in FE Fates the incest and other gross content was specifically made to pander to disgusting people who find that acceptable uncritically. The series is starting to shift in tone and appeal to gross people by adding watered down "waifu simulator" content that alienates older fans who enjoyed the series for NOT having that content (among other things) in the first place.
A game series adding trash to "appeal to a broader audience" is not something you can simply ignore, Mr. Sakurai.
If My Castle simply had some silly fun stuff nobody would care but it's the content inside the "bonus feature" that people have serious issues with and I can't believe people are getting all huffy about others having issues with implied incest and rape in a darn Nintendo game.
@Kaze_Memaryu There are no differences between a 14 year old American girl and a 14 year old Japanese girl, both are not mature enough to consent to such activities and it being legal to inappropriately touch underaged girls in Japan does not mean it's okay. In fact many people ARE trying to get the legal age limit in Japan raised especially with the uncovering of abuse underaged Idol girls are facing in the industry and pressure from outside agencies about the "legal" sale of U-N content. Art/Media/Video Games/etc. do not exist inside a vacuum. When you create a piece of art you are expressing ideals and opinions. People are naturally inclined to absorb ideas from around them whether they are negative or not. If video games can have positive impacts on people's lives they can certainly have negative ones. The disturbing trend of a-okaying things because "it's Japan" is just one of them.
@Dr_Lugae
But in Pokemon,Nintendogs,etc. you don't get pokemon/dogs/etc. spouting lines of dialogue implying incestual relationships and you don't get to walk in on your Pokemon/Nintendogs bathing.
@sWiTcHeRoO
Touching underaged girls and incest are parts of ~japanese culture~ we're just gaijins for finding it morally reprehensible apparently.
@justastone @Klimbatize
Being disgusted at incest and inappropriate touching isn't "being offended uwu!!!!" they're both serious issues in Japan and them being passed off as some sort of cutesy cuddly love is actually part of the problem.
Oh my god I did not just see someone here use the term "sjw" unironically outside of tumblr on here to bash people with opinions they don't agree with.
"it's hard to disagree with Sakurai-san"
No it isn't. I don't care that there's a bonus My Castle feature what I care about is that WITHIN the My Castle feature there are instances of implied incest/inappropriate touching/etc. and that developers seriously had the gall to add content that appeals to people who WOULD be interested in those kinds of relationships. When parts of the game are being specifically made to appeal to disgusting people and insinuate disgusting ideals (curing Sol's "lesbian problem" is one of them) that's not just something you pass off as "lol well just don't play it" especially to people who do face that type of awful discrimination in real life.
Japan may be okay with touching underaged anime girls but that trash doesn't fly in the West for a good reason and I have zero problem with them censoring it out when it comes Westwards.
Not releasing the smaller Nintendo 3DS in North America and continuing to region lock a PORTABLE console seems to imply otherwise. When I look at the JPNeShop and see pages upon pages of cool 3DS themes/exclusive downloads/etc. while America gets nothing outside of general trash you have to seriously wonder the other, real reasons as to why they don't localize.
I understand you can't localize every single game but come on man, there are many games out there that do not have huge amounts of voice acting or Animal Crossing/JRPG amounts of text that you haven't explained why they can't be localized. And since 3DSes are region locked you can't act all huffy when people complain that they can't play what they want since you set this up in the first place. There are ways to subsidize the cost of localization which Pranger conveniently doesn't mention (No seriously, you do not need voice acting for everything).
And really now, is there any proof that region locking reduced piracy to the point where it's cost effective to continue doing?
Agreed,many WiiU owners have been burned this entire generation and people getting fed up with Nintendo burning them is apparently some horrible thing. We're essentially getting one...maybe two new WiiU games a month in the Fall and Holiday season with long waits padded out with budget stuff like Skylanders and Just Dance? How can people not understand that there is a serious problem in the video game line-up here? Someone needs to wake up and smell the rotting roses, even stockholders understood that Nintendo's E3 showing was utter crap.
Cultural differences or not, someone should apologize, because what they showed at E3 was unacceptable and unlike their die-hard fanboys many people are not going to simply sit there and take it. E3 is not simply another nintendo direct and it's about time they realized that.
@JaxonH If Nintendo isn't intentionally holding back stock and they're not just incompetent then what are they doing? Ever since it became apparent that certain amiibo might be "discontinued" (some only two weeks after being released) Nintendo made wishy washy statements regarding restocks and frequently dodged the issue. With conflicting reports coming in left and right in addition to the port strikes being a nice scapegoat for like....5 days; It has only been within recent months that they made direct statements and apologized for the issues.
Even then, they don't know when the stock issues are going to be resolved and have essentially handed the issue with retailers who have to try and solve it themselves. The lack of communication, backpeddling and this being on going for 6-7 months shows that they really, really aren't being too optimistic about fixing it. And why would they? Even with the low stock and disgruntlement of the internet they sell out like hotcakes. Even if scalpers are taking advantage of their fanbase they still rake in the money at the end of the day, so it honestly wouldn't be too far fetched to believe Nintendo would engage in restricting stock for hype...again.
"I don't think buying for others affect supply because if it wasn't you buying it and then transferring it to your friends it would just be somebody else buying it who didn't have them."
I'm not sure if you're implying some sort of "scalpers buy amiibo then they go poof into thin air via magic" here because the obvious problem is that the "somebody else buying it" in your situation are scalpers who are driving the already low supply of amiibo even lower by reselling them for x4+ the retail price which many people do not want to pay.
24 Jigglypuffs per Target (assuming, I know many got wayyyy less than that) looks good on paper....until you realize 20 out of the 24 were sold minutes after the store opens. And that's being gracious and assuming a large amount weren't picked up by scalpers who were sitting at the store 2 hours in advance. When you take into account how many people actually shop at these retailers 24 with NO chance of restock is nothing. I don't understand the fear of overstocking certain characters when I frequently go into stores and see nothing but Mario and Peach sitting there for days at a time or literal holes in the shelves.
@JaxonH The issue with Day One DLC is asking the consumer to pay $60 upfront for the game then (Let's use Splatoon as an example) asking them to pay additional money for content that is not worth over half (or in the case of people who have to pay scalpers/import amiibo/etc. the cost of the game itself and more than likely more) of the cost of the game for content that could easily be considered part of the initial price. Really now, are the amiibo side missions and the costumes they unlock really worth an additional $35 to unlock, or could they easily be considered side content in the game itself instead of locking them behind an expensive toy purchase?
"Scalpers are irrelevant. They have no part in the equation whatsoever. Whether there's scalpers taking advantage or not it will have negligible effect on available stock."
Are you sure people buying up multiple preorders or having their friends buy multiples of the "rare" amiibo that are already low in stock doesn't effect available stock?? The point is that none of these "rare" amiibo should be this rare in the first place, especially not at initial launch. You can continuously cite that millions of amiibo are being shipped worldwide and yet out of those millions of amiibo places like best buy are only getting 5-10 Little Macs? Only 24 Jigglypuffs at Target (If you're lucky)? And then not restocking them after they sell out? Heavens forbid we put preorders into that equation. Consumers don't care if they're shipping out millions, it is not enough and with Nintendo flopping about for 6-7 months about the issue consumers are going to rightfully be upset and not want to continue supporting amiibo, especially when the competition is more available and (arguably) a better choice right now.
Sure, amiibo aren't "needed" for any of the games they're implemented in so far but there's something very wrong with hiding $35 worth of content behind a toy that is exceedingly hard to get in the first place. Outside of being cool figurines they're also on-disk dlc activators. And really now, collectables should not be this hard to obtain while they are still being produced. Having systems crash and getting your preorder canceled isn't "fun" or "making you work"; it's a silly inconvenience that should have been resolved already.
@3dsgeek333 I'll truly never understand why Nintendo (Or maybe it's specifically NOA) seems to be so keen on giving America+Canada the short end of the stick when we literally give them (in some cases) the biggest profit out of all the other regions. I wasn't really holding my breath that Nintendo would competently restock Marth in the first place and I'm guessing the future waves in America will still have silly stock issues. Whenever I go to the amiibo section in stores I ALWAYS see either huge holes in the shelf space or extremely common amiibo taking up multiple shelf spaces. And in all honesty, shelf space shouldn't be an issue in the first place in a world where online shopping exists. Getting close to six months worth of stock issues is really, really pathetic.
@Kimite Same here. I know they'll (hopefully) announce it at E3, but I'm impatiently waiting for them to confirm Bravely Second is getting localized AND give us a known release date. I'm still miffed that SquareEnix is deicing to play it safe and not localize anything outside of their core IPs.
@MitchVogel Alot of people were actually saying the same thing before launch; serious concerns about them being fancy physical versions of on disc DLC/day one DLC was the primary criticism against them (which turned out to be true, made even worse by the fact many of them aren't even available for purchase unlike their competitors). They're essentially really nice looking official figurines at a pretty cheap price. Although I don't believe that excuses Nintendo making silly decisions like only sending a handful of certain amiibo to stores and not restocking more.
@day Universal issues with pre-orders not being fulfilled, common amiibo differing depending on where one lives and Nintendo giving really awful and in many cases vague PR responses as to whether or not certain amiibo are being restocked are all pointing to stock issues or purposely understocking certain amiibo to make it seem like they're "rare". Absolutely no one should be having to jump through this many hoops for these mass produced toys.
@Kami2Kami And yet we suffer the worst of the stock issues while NOA twiddles their thumbs and Japan gets reprints of many "rare" amiibo shipped out already. Our complaints are valid until Nintendo actually stops giving us the short end of the stick and restocks the darn things already.
@DarthNocturnal I refuse to believe they're actually doing this to measure server stress. How many people are they seriously expecting to play this game at the same time? Can't possibly be more than Mario Kart 8/SSB4.
On a side note, "the fairly popular perception that it's [nintendo] out of touch is rather unfair"
If taking months to finally assure customers that certain "rare" amiibo are going to be restocked, releasing a portable console in every other market except the one where it sold the best and still locking downloads to hardware instead of accounts isn't out of touch what the heck is?
@Spectra_Twilight
If people simply "didn't buy" an Xbox One it would still have silly DRM and "always online" features.
Maybe if companies were actually developing content for after the game's release/etc. instead of ripping out things from a completed game to sell later or literally on the first day of release on top of the retail price paid for the game then yeah, sure, the hate would be unwarranted.
On the topic of Fire Emblem "If". I do not play Fire Emblem games and since this is currently confirmed for only Japan right now and we're only getting fed information via sketchy translations (I am aware of the interview but multiple people have posted links from other news websites with conflicting information) I wouldn't really get blue in the face about it. However, I would be concerned about Nintendo getting cuddly with anti-consumer/money grubbing tactics in their games. Pokemon being used as their guinea pig to dip their feet in "Free To Start" garbage is making me wish they simply made a really good trozei/rumble sequel instead...
Come on...no bravely default rep guys? Especially with how perfect any of the 4 heroes movesets could be with asterisks involved and getting that kickass music revo did for the game.
@Bushido_Fai Mind pointing out where I can buy a standard NA region New 3DS and get physical club nintendo rewards that aren't crap here? We have every right to "complain" when NoA is frequently giving us the shaft.
Anyways, I can get most of the physical releases for cheaper but I might pick up Woah Dave! and Siesta Fiesta for my 3DS at that price if my SD card has enough space. This sale is only "okay" in my opinion as I'm not too keen on digital only games.
Sigh, not this againnnnn. Video games do not exist in a vacuum outside of reality. People are incredibly receptive to ideas especially if it's in a form that can be easily "digested". "It's not real,it's just art" is not an excuse, art/media is not just a form of expression, it's also a form of communication and it can negatively impact how people think and feel about things. Just look at #gamergate and how much doxing,harassment and other bs happened over people having differing opinions on VIDEO GAMES, for christ's sake.
@Quorthon Agreed, I don't think this game "shouldn't exist" and I feel that's a bit excessive; but this almost-hysterical "SJWs gonna take muh tiddies away/I'm not okay with male objectification but I'm okay with it happening to girls" attitude is really dismissive. It just drives legitimate conversations about the lack of diversity in video game characters into the trash.

Was that a recent update? I thought Yokai Watch already outsold Pokemon in Japan, although maybe that was in the case of spin offs?
Re: Nintendo's New Membership Service Is Called "Nintendo Account"
Err waiting for an article update guys! There seems to be some going back and forth as to what the actual new Club Nintendo's name is vs. what seems to be a new cloud based service.
Re: Miitomo, Nintendo's First Smartphone Game, Is Delayed Until March 2016
My sides are in orbit, thanks Nintendo and everyone reporting this.
Like some people here, I wasn't really sure what they would do for mobile and I'd be really horrified if they went the SEGA route and simply slammed Mario into an endless runner. I'll reserve full judgement until March 2016; this could be big in Japan with the emphasis on "shy people sharing things with each other" but in the West...
Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Launches at Number One in Japan, But With Sales a Long Way Behind Predecessors
Re: Talking Point: Five Potential Reveals Coming From Nintendo's Financial Briefing
With all the 3DS games and the new system I bought I would certainly be interested in what they're replacing Club Nintendo with and how they'll reward old users who have still been supporting their games.
Re: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Won't Have Online Play
@Vandy
@TheFatLucario
Re: Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash Fails to Clean Up in Japanese Charts
@Toadsfriend
As much as I and many others would not want this to be Chibi Robo's last game, many of us do not want to support a game that would tell Nintendo to stray away from the original Chibi Robo formula.
@Kimite
You could always rally people to try and pull an Operation Rainfall/Operation Zero for Chibi Robo.
Re: The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS Model is Coming to North America
@freaksloan
Some adults have smaller hands, some don't like the blown up graphics on the XL, some don't want to carry the larger model around, some love how customizable the smaller one is. The smaller model's release has no effect on you or anyone else that prefers the XL so there is no reason for you to be childishly name calling people for wanting options that appeal to them; especially when those options should have been out 7-8 months ago.
@mariovslink62
I want to hope they learned their lesson from the XL bundle fiasco but I'm guessing not. Good thing I still have my old working charger...
Re: The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS Model is Coming to North America
Three Words: Took Long Enough!
I'm really, really hoping being bundle only (at least right now) doesn't kill it's chances of selling. Although I'm guessing Nintendo is trying to play it safe and ride on the waves of a popular game to help move units.
I'm kind of wondering what triggered them to finally move forward with releasing it here, but I'm definitely going to save up and get one!
Re: Mega Yarn Yoshi amiibo Stampedes onto Shelves this November

Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)
"This creepy fanservice game isn't actually very good"
Something that could easily be figured out after watching 15 minutes of gameplay. The unnecessary sexualization really hampers gameplay/story/etc.; but we all know you're not allowed to say that, you filthy gaijin prudes.
At least this is the only creeptrash game we're getting for a while.
@Moon
Do inflatable anime waifus count?
Re: The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With the 'amiiqo' Device
@AJTsuki
Except we know there's "Special Edition" amiibo cards in Japan (Smiling Isabelle was exclusive to some magazine I believe) + "Rare" sparkle cards so we're back at square one I guess, unless Nintendo really does ramp up production of these cards.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Dismissal of Chris Pranger Highlights Issues With Company Culture
@Kirk
I have a feeling the only thing that would be considered damaging to the company would be Pranger yelling "SCREW NINTENDO!" and burning down his office to you.
"nothing he said was said in any way that could SERIOUSLY be considered damaging to the company."
Revealing that Nintendo is having trouble localizing games, compared to ATLUS and XSeed which are able to localize games for a profit is obviously a negative statement that damages Nintendo's brand.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Dismissal of Chris Pranger Highlights Issues With Company Culture
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
@Cdc0028
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
@Cdc0028
"Realistic" people do not insult their customer base, insult the products they represent, and they certainly do not reveal negative and damaging information about the company they work for to the public in a podcast.
@BlatantlyHeroic
There's multiple things you can cite Nintendo being out of touch with but firing someone for clearly breaking their NDA, just like any other company, isn't one of them.
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
@Kirk
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired
Wow....it's as if spouting nonsense that insults your customer base and makes the company you work for look bad may end up getting you fired...
In other news, the sky is blue.
@doll
"a lot of people seemed really angry. why? most of us don't work in game dev or publishing industries, and just because we want game x localized doesn't mean it's feasible or going to happen."
It's understandable that not every single game can get localized but Chris' comments come off as exceedingly rude and essentially damage control the fact that Nintendo is overly conservative about what games they do and do not localize + most of the complaints about localization would be solved by not region locking their consoles.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
@OlicityBlows
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
@Kaze_Memaryu
There are no differences between a 14 year old American girl and a 14 year old Japanese girl, both are not mature enough to consent to such activities and it being legal to inappropriately touch underaged girls in Japan does not mean it's okay.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
@Dr_Lugae
But in Pokemon,Nintendogs,etc. you don't get pokemon/dogs/etc. spouting lines of dialogue implying incestual relationships and you don't get to walk in on your Pokemon/Nintendogs bathing.
@sWiTcHeRoO
Touching underaged girls and incest are parts of ~japanese culture~ we're just gaijins for finding it morally reprehensible apparently.
@justastone @Klimbatize
Being disgusted at incest and inappropriate touching isn't "being offended uwu!!!!" they're both serious issues in Japan and them being passed off as some sort of cutesy cuddly love is actually part of the problem.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games
Re: Chris Pranger From Nintendo Treehouse Discusses Harsh Realities Of Localisation
"“Why do you guys hate money?” We don’t."
Re: Satoru Iwata Didn't Apologise For Nintendo's E3 Digital Event, Says Reggie Fils-Aime
@Monkeh
Someone needs to wake up and smell the rotting roses, even stockholders understood that Nintendo's E3 showing was utter crap.
http://mynintendonews.com/2015/06/18/nintendos-stock-dropped-fairly-significantly-after-e3-2015-digital-event/
Cultural differences or not, someone should apologize, because what they showed at E3 was unacceptable and unlike their die-hard fanboys many people are not going to simply sit there and take it. E3 is not simply another nintendo direct and it's about time they realized that.
Re: Poll: We Need to Talk About amiibo - Where Do You Stand?
@JaxonH
If Nintendo isn't intentionally holding back stock and they're not just incompetent then what are they doing?
Re: Poll: We Need to Talk About amiibo - Where Do You Stand?
@JaxonH
The issue with Day One DLC is asking the consumer to pay $60 upfront for the game then (Let's use Splatoon as an example) asking them to pay additional money for content that is not worth over half (or in the case of people who have to pay scalpers/import amiibo/etc. the cost of the game itself and more than likely more) of the cost of the game for content that could easily be considered part of the initial price.
Re: Poll: We Need to Talk About amiibo - Where Do You Stand?
Sure, amiibo aren't "needed" for any of the games they're implemented in so far but there's something very wrong with hiding $35 worth of content behind a toy that is exceedingly hard to get in the first place. Outside of being cool figurines they're also on-disk dlc activators.
And really now, collectables should not be this hard to obtain while they are still being produced. Having systems crash and getting your preorder canceled isn't "fun" or "making you work"; it's a silly inconvenience that should have been resolved already.
Re: Don't Hold Your Breath On Those Marth amiibo Restocks
@3dsgeek333
I'll truly never understand why Nintendo (Or maybe it's specifically NOA) seems to be so keen on giving America+Canada the short end of the stick when we literally give them (in some cases) the biggest profit out of all the other regions.
Re: Konami And Square Enix Post Positive Financials, Despite A Lack Of Major Console Releases
@Kimite
Same here. I know they'll (hopefully) announce it at E3, but I'm impatiently waiting for them to confirm Bravely Second is getting localized AND give us a known release date. I'm still miffed that SquareEnix is deicing to play it safe and not localize anything outside of their core IPs.
Re: Nintendo Has Shipped 10.5 Million amiibo Worldwide
@MitchVogel
Alot of people were actually saying the same thing before launch; serious concerns about them being fancy physical versions of on disc DLC/day one DLC was the primary criticism against them (which turned out to be true, made even worse by the fact many of them aren't even available for purchase unlike their competitors). They're essentially really nice looking official figurines at a pretty cheap price. Although I don't believe that excuses Nintendo making silly decisions like only sending a handful of certain amiibo to stores and not restocking more.
@day
Universal issues with pre-orders not being fulfilled, common amiibo differing depending on where one lives and Nintendo giving really awful and in many cases vague PR responses as to whether or not certain amiibo are being restocked are all pointing to stock issues or purposely understocking certain amiibo to make it seem like they're "rare". Absolutely no one should be having to jump through this many hoops for these mass produced toys.
@Kami2Kami
And yet we suffer the worst of the stock issues while NOA twiddles their thumbs and Japan gets reprints of many "rare" amiibo shipped out already. Our complaints are valid until Nintendo actually stops giving us the short end of the stick and restocks the darn things already.
Re: Reaction: The Splatoon Global Testfire Demo Is a Clever Nintendo Direct Highlight
@DarthNocturnal
I refuse to believe they're actually doing this to measure server stress. How many people are they seriously expecting to play this game at the same time? Can't possibly be more than Mario Kart 8/SSB4.
On a side note,
"the fairly popular perception that it's [nintendo] out of touch is rather unfair"
If taking months to finally assure customers that certain "rare" amiibo are going to be restocked, releasing a portable console in every other market except the one where it sold the best and still locking downloads to hardware instead of accounts isn't out of touch what the heck is?
Re: Fire Emblem's Two Versions Will Offer Very Different Challenges
@Spectra_Twilight

Re: Nintendo's Super Spring Sale Shines Light on Some Top Wii U and 3DS eShop Deals
@Bushido_Fai
Mind pointing out where I can buy a standard NA region New 3DS and get physical club nintendo rewards that aren't crap here? We have every right to "complain" when NoA is frequently giving us the shaft.
Anyways, I can get most of the physical releases for cheaper but I might pick up Woah Dave! and Siesta Fiesta for my 3DS at that price if my SD card has enough space. This sale is only "okay" in my opinion as I'm not too keen on digital only games.
Re: Swedish Newspaper Questions The European Release Of Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson
@Quorthon
Agreed, I don't think this game "shouldn't exist" and I feel that's a bit excessive; but this almost-hysterical "SJWs gonna take muh tiddies away/I'm not okay with male objectification but I'm okay with it happening to girls" attitude is really dismissive. It just drives legitimate conversations about the lack of diversity in video game characters into the trash.
